They barely made eye contact with me and brushed me off. I was very kind and friendly when I entered and they were very curt and rude. They also attempted to over charge me. So I'm from California, and I was in town for a cultural convention. Someone made a dress for me last minute in Cali and they didn't do the best job but I dealt since they took me last minute and didn't charge that much. Upon arriving in Atlanta my plan was to find someone to modify my dress. I googled/helped and they were like the only ones who would do same day alterations. My issues : 1. They're over priced. I'm FROM LOS ANGELES. The land of overpriced things. I go to the garment district frequently and I've had different tailors/seamstresses make and modify things for me and they're way over priced. They tried to justify the price by saying that it's because she has to undo stitching or whatever but nah, people charge less in La and y'all are some corner store in ATL. Girl stop. They're apprentice Or niece who speaks better English claims that people from La come and say that they're cheaper... I'm like WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO? I get the most expensive of material and dresses modified and I've NEVER had anyone charge such a nonsensical amount. I'm also a wise shopper and I don't fall prey to the excessively expensive stores/business in La so idk. But she was lying through her teeth with that one. I had no choice though, so I just had to deal. 2. This may be a cultural disconnect issue but I felt like they were rude. When they were fitting me etc she poked my boobs with a pin and when I said "ouch" she didn't apologize. When I walked in and cheerfully said "I've returned" they were straight faced and didn't even smile. When she did the second alteration, and I said I wanted to try it on again, she just held it out like "Here" with a vibe that implied that my desire to see what MY dress that I paid 60 dollars for was unreasonable. My pros 1. They did the best they could with a dress that wasn't made with the most detail. 2. I got it the SAME day. 3. Even though they're rude, and grabbed and moved me like I wasn't a human being, they will respond to your request when you say "Can this go in" they'll look and pin it and say , "Okay? Better?" & ULTIMATELY THATS WHAT MATTERS, I'M NOT NECESSARILY TRYING TO BE YOIR BEST FRIEND, BUT IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU HAD SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AND DIDN'T POKE MY BOOB WITH A NEEDLE AND NOT APOLOGIZE * eye rolling emoji* I'm Nigerian and I understand people from different cultures having different ways of etiquette so I didn't take it to heart but it still had me feeling eh. Angry. Hurt. Ruined Garment. I needed a jacket shortened and a patch pocket moved in a windowpane patterned sport coat. The change was significant enough to match the pattern and my markings (with my own chalk and pins) were very clear. Intensely rude, the older lady wouldn't let me talk, physically removed my hands from what I was trying to explain, and seemed put out by the fact that I had pinned and marked the garment myself. In discussions with an older gentleman there, they both seemed to clearly understand what I wanted done. Upon retrieval of the jacket all work was fine except for the disastrous pockets. I pointed this out and she became extremely agitated as though she remembered what we talked about but messed it up. She kept saying "No, no, no, perfect, perfect, perfect!" as she bagged up the jacket and shoved it at me, looking away. I know what happened- somebody measured from the top instead of the bottom and made the wrong cuts. I don't know what pro would tolerate continuing with such an error. No call, no discussion of alternatives, nothing. But there was nothing but angry defensiveness on her part, no indication of wanting to make it right and a general gaslighting tone of my being the problem. I wish I could understand her, I might have made some headway. In the meantime, I feel lied to, ripped off and bullied- and left with a ruined new sport coat thrown at me like a bleeding loved one worked over by thugs. I can't believe this... read more

Holy shnikes. I knew the lady that ran this shop was a B, but thought it would improve - she wont change. You are treated like a piece of filthy trashy not worthy of her time and will walk out feeling like you were mentally abused by a bully. She literally throws your clothes at you - 'Here. You are lucky its done today (one week)'. You are privileged to use her shops services. I cant go back - Only El Gants from now on even if they are a few dollars more. DO NOT GO HERE. The lady at the front desk lit rally tug-a-war with my dress when I said I wasn't going to get service there anymore. The owner is reasonable but she is never there. I paid a deposit just for the woman pinning me for alteration to makeup an inflated price. They are rude and aggressive and unprofessional. They also over charge. This is my first alterations place- and really the only alterations I've ever paid to have done on clothes before. Wooo for moms! I initially selected it because of its reviews on Yelp, and I have to say they are about standard. Some background. It's a tiny little shop on Charles Allen, right off of Ponce. Also next to a shoe repair shop- I've heard great things. The staff is mostly Korean, and don't speak that much English, but are efficient and friendly for the most part. I've been here twice. The first to take in a pair of pants (she took them in as much as they would go, but in the end, they were just too big for me. white girl problems), hem another pair (they look great now), repair a rip in my favorite jeans and repair a rip in a nice shirt. I let them start with that. Everything was done, satisfactorily for $45. Recently I was speaking with a friend who said that she doesn't get alterations on pants done anymore, because even with a deal from her mom's friend- a seamstress- one pair of pants was around $30 to get altered. Judging from my experience that seems like a shitty rip-off, much less a deal between friends. The second time I went was the true test. I brought in some bras to be altered. Intimacy in Buckhead refused to take in the elastic for me because they "only alter their own bras". Meaning, "we refuse to fix your shitty Victoria's Secret bras." Whatever. The main lady- you'll know her, she's the one who usually greets and takes the orders- looked over it with me and explained to me how she could fix them. Her English isn't great but it works fine for the job. I came back today to pick them up and was a little freaked out when they couldn't find them. Another employee literally looked everywhere and couldn't find it, they couldn't even find the ticket, until the head lady came over and pulled it out from a shelf like she knew it had been there the whole time. She knows her shit. And she also wears a blue tooth which makes her seem really professional and intimidating. (Combine the language barrier with the blue tooth and you have a recipe for awkward. Laugh nervously and she might crack a smile.) They did a great job on the bras- nice and tight. Pro tip: the band should be tight because the elastic will eventually stretch out again. Totally fixable, so don't go out and buy new bras! After today I'm a happy customer. I trust them now so I will definitely be going back there from now own. read more

I have been here twice. The first time I was getting a patch on a pair of jeans. When I returned to pick up my Jeans they were unable to locate them, and I offered to come back later and pick them up. When I returned, the work they did was ok, but they seemed pretty disorganized. The 2nd Time I visited the store, I had a moth hole in a sport coat that I was interested in getting repaired. When I asked about getting a repair, I was verbally chastised, and made to feel as if I should feel bad for allowing a moth to damage my coat. In the end the store clerk and I had a bit of language barrier and I took my coat elsewhere to be repaired. I will not be back. read more

I had a really good experience here. Took a dress here 6 days before a big event, and they didn't blink about the quick turnaround. Did great work taking in the waist on a complex garment, reasonable prices, and they steamed the garment before I picked it up. Some of the staff are no-nonsense, but I experienced no rudeness. When I picked up my dress, the staff even commented on how lovely the dress was. I will return here with my alterations in future. They require payment up front, rather than when you pick up, but I have no problem with this. read more

IT'S A WONDER THAT THEY ARE STILL IN BUSINESS! I gave this place two sets of matching suit buttons to replace on two suit jackets. On one of the suits they replaced the buttons with the ones I gave them -- on the other jacket, they replaced only one of the buttons leaving them mismatched. Moreover, they still have the matching button that I gave them! Unfortunately, they do not speak English, so it's impossible to communicate with them. A staff member at the most amazing dry cleaner ever, Sig Samuels, recommended Midtown Alterations to me, when the zipper in my fabulous and timeless leather jacket broke. I immediately knew that Midtown Alterations had to be a reputable establishment, since such a trusted source referred me there. The woman at Midtown Alterations had to completely replace the zipper in my jacket and did an excellent job, restoring this classic piece to like-new condition. The price was reasonable, too--around $35, if I remember correctly--which is typical even in the boondock town where I am from. Today, I had my second experience with Midtown Alterations. The armhole in my spectacular vintage, sleeveless shift dress had torn and needed to be sewn back up. The same woman stitched the tear with matching-color thread, providing high-quality and quick service another time. (On both occasions, the work was finished within the same week.) Unfortunately, the rip was so bad, a close-up look reveals a few gaps in the stitches, but I am happy with the results. Plus, when I came to pick up the dress, the woman noticed that the hemming had come undone at the bottom of the dress, and rapidly resewed it at no extra charge. My only complaint is that the staff members, of Asian heritage, don't speak very good English, so it's extremely difficult to communicate with them. They always understand what I need but can't answer my follow-up questions or effectively go into much detail about solutions to my clothing pieces' problems. But, so far, Midtown Alterations has provided friendly and satisfactory service. read more

The customer service here is the worst I have ever received in any establishment. No phone etiquette, not even a hello when you walk in the door. When I called to check on my items I was hung up on and when I called back I was placed on hold for 20minutes, until I walked through the door of their business to inquire in person. The attitude and dirty looks I received as soon as I walked through the door were horrible. Thankfully they found my items, but they will NEVER receive my business again. read more

I believe there are cultural and language differences which cause some of the problems others have described. I have been satisfied with hemming pants and shortening tops. However, I always write out my instructions very clearly and pin them to the garment when I hand it in. I also don't expect small talk. I wish some of their younger, better-English-relatives would help them update their service. read more

I've had very mixed results using Midtown Alterations. They're not the cheapest by any means, but usually do excellent work. They do insist you pay for any alterations in cash in FULL up front when the garment is left with them prior to any work being done. This can be off putting to some, I never had an issue with it as I always felt they did quality work. However they could stand to improve their customer relations & attitude when dealing with prospective clients. I've used them consistently for over 20 years but won't be going back again. They made me feel like my business was unnecessary & I was bothering them by bringing my garment to them to alter. That's not how I feel you should run your business or make customers feel when they enter your store & are willing to pay whatever it is you choose to charge them for the work they're asking to be done. Sad to say I'm looking elsewhere now to have my alterations done. read more

At the last minute I needed a dress altered and didn't have time to run to my normal alterations place. I'm always nervous to take clothes to a new tailor, but decided to give this place a shot. After a quick fitting, the woman said I could pick it up on Monday (this was a Wednesday morning). I told her I really need it for a Friday night event, if there's any way she could have it done by then. Thankfully she quickly agreed. I picked it up Friday an hour before the promised time and it was perfect! I would definitely use this place again, at least for all my simple alterations. Price was $20 for the straps to be taken in on both sides. Cons: They do not speak very good English and it's hard to communicate, but they are very friendly and do their best to meet your needs. read more

Poor customer service during multiple visits. Most recently went to have some curtains hemmed. They offered a price I didn't agree with so I calmly stated I would prefer to try somewhere else. They were extremely rude in response, muttering about the price I suggested and tossing my curtains back across the counter toward me. As I was leaving they even called me back to angrily retrieve the one safety pin they had placed in my curtain. This was the final straw of many bad experiences here. I will not return. read more

At first I only took certain items there because it is a hair more expensive and a little further away from my house. But, I've gotten over myself and started using them for all of my alterations. I decided to try Midtown Alterations when I bought a bridesmaids dress that was too long. I figured I had nothing to lose if it didn't turn out perfectly, since I'll only wear it once. I wish I could write a rave review and say that I fell in love with the place, but that's not what happened. Don't get me wrong - the work was good. It's exactly the right length and the stitches are very fine. But there are three grease stains on my dress that weren't there when I dropped it off. I guess this isn't surprising, since I saw an employee eating at the sewing machine each of the three times I was there. Also, my dress is wrinkled. I'm a little annoyed that they couldn't even bother to steam it after I paid $35 for a simple hem. So all in all my experience wasn't bad, but I won't be taking any more clothes to them. read more

When I tried to negotiate a better price they gawked and tried to charge me a sitting fee. Go down the street to Bangkok tailors. I'm an advocate for polite service and always return the favor. When I picked them up, they clearly needed to have been tapered. I've had two very negative customer service experiences here in a row and will not be bringing my alterations to Midtown Alterations ever again. The first: I called 15 minutes before the store was closing to inquire about their hours. The woman on the phone spoke extremely poor English and was very rude. It was very difficult to understand her and she seemed to be shouting at me. She told me that if I did not arrive in 15 minutes, they could not help me. I took over $100 worth of alterations elsewhere. The second: I used my lunch break to drive all the way across town to Midtown Alterations to have a formal dress altered. I did not have the precise bra that I intended to wear with the garment with me... Rather than being proactive, understanding, or helpful, the woman told me that they could not possibly help me unless I had the exact bra I intended to wear with the dress, even though I could clearly show here where the changes needed to be made. I did not have time to go home to get the bra and return again during my lunch break. I was very put off by her tone and rudeness. As a consequence, I don't have time to get the dress altered before a formal event. The quality of their work (from a past experience) is high, but their customer service is seriously lacking. I went in to get a pair of my favorite jeans fixed. A button had popped off and silver dollar size hole had formed at the crotch. The lady I talked to spoke a sparse amount of broken English and took about ten minutes to understand that all I wanted was the button replaced and moved to the right and the crotch holed repaired. It took them a full week to do what appeared to be a 20 minutes job. Looks like they just slapped on an iron on patch with a few zig zag stitches. They didn't even trim the flaps off the patch and didn't bother moving the button over like they said the would. I won't be going back. read more
