My most recent trip was probably the most special. I rushed over here after getting home from work, hoping to beat their 6:00 closing time. Upon pulling into the driveway, I see an old woman drive past me slowly, and I knew right away it was Lily. I almost couldn't believe that I missed them, but she rolled down her window and asked if I need to go to the alterations and what pieces I needed done. I told her quickly what I needed and she parked, got out, and told me to go into the shop. If that isn't the most endearing/caring thing a business owner could do, I don't know what is! I did not like how she repair my jeans so I requested her to take off the patch and I will pay her for her work even though I do not like it. I was holding the money in my hand. I was helping her take off the patch when she grabbed the jeans. I asked for my jeans back, she got physical with me. I called the police!! Poor customer service. I've only had one dress altered here but it was quite the experience. When I dropped it off, the lady who runs the joint informed me I looked like a balloon. I didn't come to get it taken in. Not cool. When I returned for pickup, I was wearing a long, blue necklace with shiny plastic beads and she asked if I was a millionaire and if they were real emeralds. So there's that. She didn't alter my dress in the way I expected (she just tacked down the bust rather than pulling up at the shoulders), but it did the trick and was a mere $15. And she did it in less than two days. I brought a quick turnaround job to Bangkok recently. I had already pinned off the alteration, so I didn't need to try it on there, but they did have a dressing room. They looked swamped when I got there and they confirmed that they were. But they took in my ill-fitting project and delivered it as promised. The alteration on my dress was very well done and the price was reasonable. I expected an additional "oh my god, I'm in such a hurry and I need this dress tomorrow!" charge but there wasn't. Awesome. Ive been here on 4 occasions. I had a rip in my Sean Johns repaired. Two 150.00 jeans hemmed and an XL Burton Ronin ski jacket(which I got at 60% off in S Lake Tahoe) taken in and the sleeves shortened. This place did excellent work on everything. They are a little pricey and sort of unorganized, but The personal attention was on point. More important my Jeans were the perfect length w the original stitching intact. My Sean Johns shorts were ripped in the rear pocket and you cannot tell they were repaired. My Jacket was taken in and the sleeves shortened very nicely. I highly recommend. read more

Preface: I've gone to her for 3 years. No more... Today sent me over the edge. I get 2 new suits every year altered. Usually ends up being around $250. Walked in today, she asked me to call a complete stranger to tell them their order was ready. I declined. She insisted, about 5 times. Ok. Her card machine wasn't working. Had to go to the parking lot atm, of course was out of order. She said she'd wait for me to go drive, in rush hour on Ponce, to find a bank or atm. Ok. Gave her the money and took my suits. Noticed my name brand hangers weren't with them so I went back in. She tried to give me "nice" wooden hangers. No thank you, I need mine. She went back and came out with 1 of my hangers and another "nice" wooden one. Sorry try again. She said "no more, no more". So I politely said thank you, and I will never come back. She's tolerable but just barely. Today was a very bad experience. read more

This place is a hole in the wall, has limited hours, a makeshift dressing room, and only takes cash...but they do a good job for a reasonable price! They stayed open late for me (until 6:00) when I called and said I was on my way. It's a husband-wife team and though I have not met the husband, I get the impression he does the more serious tailoring while the wife does more minor alterations. I had a bubble skirt on a bridesmaid's dress hemmed there, which is a relatively complicated alteration, and I was very satisfied with the work. They charged me about $10 more than the other girls who had their dresses altered in the 'burbs paid, but that seems about right to me. Another customer who was in the store while I was trying on my dress told me they do a great job reattaching the original hem on jeans. I'll definitely give that a try. read more

If I could give 0 starts I would never leave reviews but had to. Worst service ever. Had a simple rip on a pant seam crotch. She charged me 18 dollars. I said seems high but needed it and waited. She refused to let me see the pants until I had paid. Come to find The seam was crooked. Terrible job on very expensive ones. If you stand by your work why wouldn't you let a customer see it first. I normally use Midtown Alterations on Charles Allen. A few years ago I had them take in a cocktail dress after I had lost a lot of weight on the personal strife diet aka divorce. Now that I'm back to my normal size, I needed to have this dress let out for an occasion. Unfortunately, the tailor at MA did not leave much fabric and when I asked them to let it out (begged actually) they told me it was impossible. It occurred to me to seek a 2nd opinion, so I drove down Ponce to Bangkok Tailor and she didn't even flinch. Fast forward to picking up the dress today and it's perfect! The dress was ready in 5 days, the owner asked me to try it on to be sure it fit, and told me I looked like a movie star - compliments will get you everywhere :-) If I had one complaint it would be the cash only policy, but that's minor. This will be my new tailor of choice, and I'd like to share the lesson I've learned: always say "no cutting" in case you need to let something out at a later date... read more

Outstanding!! I needed some extensive alterations to a suit I bought on ebay. I wnt over to Bangkok and met the two owners, a totally lovely elderly Thai couple that made me feel welcome and at home. The man is the actual Tailor and he is a craftsman with a wit! He exclaimed "Oh your butt is too small!" I totally cracked up laughing, he is a gem. The lady gave me the deal on pay in advance in cash; $30 for a lot of work, what a great deal on truely grat work. The suit fits perfectly and for such a low price. Being a man this type joking is great, I am sure the gentleman would joke this way with a lady so go with confidence that you will be treated like a valued customer. I got to this place after a friend of mine recommended it. I was in need of getting two pants fix (the problem of being a short lady), so I decided to give this place a try. I can say I had a good experience from start to finish. the place is conveniently located over Ponce Avenue and has plenty of parking. The lady in the store was really nice and accommodating and once I showed her that I had already marked how much to hem from my pants, I was good to go. Picked it up the following week and they both looked great and have fit perfectly, The main downside of this place is there hours (who leaves at work before 4 pm?) and the fact that they only accept cash. There's one thing this place is far superior than any other alterations place I have been to: they always get the length perfect. I've tried many places that are either consistent or attempt to make my pants so long, they're dragging on my heels. Yes, they charge $15 for a basic hem. They also stand behind their work. If the hem comes undone later, for whatever reason, bring it back to be fixed. I've also recently had them take in some work pants that were at least two sizes too big. Only $15 to take in the waist and butt, and extra $5 if the upper thigh needs to be taken in too. read more

I walked in here at 3:45 pm on a Friday with an obnoxious request - fixing a zipper/ hem so I could wear the dress that night. After I had already botched it and almost destroyed the whole damn dress. (#vanity) As others have noted, it is a hole in the wall with weird smells and bizarre costume jewelry for sale, but they get the job done and it is inexpensive. She knocked it out in 45 minutes, strictly instructing me to return by 4:30 pm so she could leave. My horrifying initial repair attempt was masterfully masked and replaced with sturdy zipper that lay perfectly flat. I don't know that I'd take a wedding dress here, but just about anything else is fair game. Cash only. read more

Terrible. I came here based on reviews. Maybe they do a good job on other simple shirts but they failed to do so this time. I took in 3 dress shirts for alterations (to get the sides/back fitted). The sewing was rather cheap and uneven, leaving small bumps of loose fabric all over the seams. When I complained about the quality of work, the elderly woman behind the counter lifted up her shirt to show me a long surgery scar across her chest and started screaming "nobody is perfect I do best I can." I then spoke to her husband, who informed me the "tailoring" services I paid for was for basic "shit quality" tier and if I wanted them to do a better job on the stitching and fix the fabric it would be another $30. Overall awful experience. I came here because of the proximity to my home and the reviews but will not be visiting again, partly because of the quality and partly because of the ridiculous response/reaction when I wasn't satisfied with their work. read more

A couple of weeks before my wedding I received my reception dress and realized it was going to be too big for the big day. Over to Bangkok Tailors I went. My altered dress was ready within a week and it fit perfectly, along with a pair of trousers I'd needed taken in. I am dying laughing over the negative comments because, yes, Lily is fabulous. Think of her as the Thai Blanche Devereaux of Ponce De Leon proper. She will be absolutely honest with you about what fits you well and what doesn't, and you'll look all the more gorgeous for her advice. Remember her shop is cash only. I dont think they are cheap, they are quite expensive than few other reputed ones. Cant rely on them, they asked me to come after few weeks to fix my pants in the price she quoted (ya to come again with the hope if after few weeks they will do it in the reasonable price), cause THEY HAD ENOUGH WORK FOR FEW WEEKS. means if i want to get it done early i have to pay more or find someone else. I drove miles cause i read few positive reviews. Make sure you call them before you go, your idea will change may be that time only. I wont go there again. If you are willing to pay good price....go there...but guess what, i would rather go to some better place than small place like this. Waste of my time and energy. read more

The tailor took shortcuts on hemming the pants. More importantly, both her and her husband were rude and aggressive. They were upset with me for asking questions about the fit of a tailored shirt instead of trying to better understand how I wanted my shirts to fit. I think they said, "You ask too many questions and complain too much. You will need to pay cash now before we finish your work." If I could give -100 stars I would. I am currently pounding on my keyboard contemplating if I am going to go back up there to press charges for assault. I have never in my life experienced anything like this. I went in to get a blazer taken in (which was done correctly) and two pairs of pants hemmed. Side note, when I first took my things I only had the blazer and 1 pairs of pants. They were so nice I went back to get one more pair done. I tried on my first pair of pants and they were too long. As soon as I stated I asked for a "full break" (which she wrote down and kept pointing out) and these are too long, she immediately starts yelling at me that this is what I asked for. I asked her to stop yelling at me and to look at my pants and tell me if this is a full break and she said, "no". I then told her I have to go out of town so I really need my pants as its for a wedding and she said well you can come back when you get back from your trip. Clearly I need them for my trip. So as I am changing my clothes I hear her close and lock the door. I come out of the dressing room with my shoe box in one hand and my garment bag in the other. I put the shoe box on the counter and as I am laying the garment bag on the couch she grabs my arm tightly. I yank my arm away and says "what are you doing." When she realized that I wasn't trying to skip out on the bill she then changes her tune of "I'm trying to help you." She then says she can "try to hem them but the tailor is not here." Ma'am I am not going to let you try if this is not your area of expertise. (please note she is constantly screaming at me at the top of her lungs.) I asked her if we could split the difference only paying her 7 bucks for the pants since I have to now find someone to rush hem them and she grabs my pants out the bag and goes outside the door and screams "HELP HELP HELP, somebody "HELP me." There is a barber salon next door so a gentlemen comes over and is like what is happening. She goes on how she has to pay her bills and I am not trying to pay her. I explain to him that this has nothing to do with him and I am not going to involve him. She then continues to scream and so you know I had already placed $80 on the counter. The guy starts saying to her m'am why are you yelling and her money is on the counter so what is the problem. "I have to pay my bills and she won't pay me." He states, since I've been in here there has been money on the counter so what am I missing. I finally say I want my change and my things so I can leave because at this point this whole experience has been traumatic and I am seriously shaken up. She takes my pants to the back with her to get change and comes out and is like I want to fix them for you later. I know you get a lot of pants hemmed and we want to help you. I get my change and my things and I leave. I will be going to the better business bureau and I really am contemplating pressing charges for her assaulting me physically and verbally. If you can help it, I dare to say do not patronize this establishment. I believe in customer service and I believe that no one should be treated like this. No one. read more

I needed to go some where to fix my work pants then I googled a place to go near me! and this wonderful place came up I was confused on finding where it was and I was about to go home, but I called the owner and she told me where to go! The owner is highly disrespectful, condescending, and rude; even to former loyal customers. I've just returned from my last visit to Bangkok Tailor & Alterations and I am still quite surprised at how I was treated. I have taken my clothing to be altered here for two years now. I have always been a flexible customer and given them plenty of time to complete my alterations. This would be the last time. I brought in a pair of jeans to be hemmed and taken in an inch at the waist last Friday. We both agreed the amount would be $35. I returned on Tuesday (time chosen by them) to pick up my jeans, but when examining I noticed that the seam where they brought in the waist was not lined-up correctly and created some bunching. No big deal, I didn't need them right away. So, she told me to come back on Friday (today) and they would be ready. Upon arriving at the shop, she proceeds to rant about how she has been trying to contact me at my phone number (which was clearly written), but could not reach me. Because of their mistake is closing up the seam correctly, they want to charge me $45 because of the "extra" work due to their mistake in taking a proper measurement. She then proceeds to call me a difficult and picky customer because I don't want there to be bunching due to their shoddy alteration. HELLO, i came to a tailor so that my clothes can fit me properly! She proceeds to threaten me in keeping the jeans if i didn't pay her the new $45 amount that she revised in her head. To top it off, she starts to patronize me and "mimic" me in a high pitched voice on how picky of a customer i am. If you know me, I actually have a pretty deep and monotone voice. At this point I am fed up and just want my jeans! I ended up paying her the $45 that she stole from me. This is NOT how you run a successful business! This wasn't the first time that I've been a bit offended by her, but I always looked the other way. Understanding that there may have been cultural differences, but there is no excuse for the level of disrespect here. If you read some other reviews, you'll see that this is a common thread. I will never return to this dishonest and shady mom-and-pop tailor. Take your alterations there with caution. read more
