I am a total cupcake icing crazy person, and I absolutely LOVED Midnite's creation! I would put it in my list of top American buttercream icings I have had in my long life (50+ years). I prefer the tiny sugar crunch crystals in American buttercream to the too bland and oily Italian buttercream, and Midnite's is perfect-- not too too sweet, just perfectly sweet. I usually go for just the classic vanilla icing on a vanilla cake (no added toppings or flavors). That's how I can tell the quality of the icing and cake. Have ordered from them twice before and always received amazing service. This time I placed an order online, assuming it might not work out on short notice because it was a large order. Sure enough got the phone call within a few min stating they couldn't do it. That wasn't the problem; whoever was calling was rude and talked down to me, as if she was offended by my placing the order. Five stars....and I'm not that nice usually, especially when it comes to dessert. Most cupcake shops have over-priced, over-hyped cupcakes that leave me thinking I would have been better off buying a dozen at the grocery store for the same price as one at the schmancy boutique. My dear friend and I were walking around Federal Hill last night, engaging in the bar-hopping antics that occur in the area. We walked by this place and looked at each other and thought "oh no it's 10PM...there's no way a cupcake place is open at this hour." Much to our surprise, it was. We decided to pick up a cupcake and devour it at the counter. We saw the black velvet cupcake and had to have one. Sure, it's a red velvet with black food coloring, but it was really fun looking....and it didn't dye our tongues black. The icing wasn't super sweet, but a soft cream cheese. The cake was light and not stale (considering the hour that we arrived, this was a big deal.) Crunchy sides do not belong on a cupcake. These babies were moist. I stumbled upon Midnite by accident when I was showing a couple of friends around Fed Hill and decided we wanted to get coffee and a bite of something sweet. The person behind the counter (not sure if she was the owner or employee) was very friendly, helpful, and patient in explaining all the different flavors and their specials. I decided on the black velvet and loved every single bite. The cake is very soft and moist. The top of the cupcake, or muffin top, was crispy. Sandra and the MCC family are absolutely amazing! As mentioned in my previous review we used them for our wedding and we couldnt be more pleased! We were told they arrived early to deliver the goodies and everything was perfectly in tact. Our guest said that after they sampled the first of the deliciousness that is Midnite Confection they went back for a second, and some a third. My wife and I are lucky we were able to get some cupcakes ourselves because out of approx. 120 + the top tier, we were left with less than a dozen but it was all worth it. We enjoy spreading the love of Midnite Confection's Cupcakery and kudos to the blessed hands of the bakers back there whipping up the goodness. I thought I was kinda over the whole cupcake thing, but who am I kidding? I had to stop in for a treat and it was Friday so why not? I ordered 4 cupcakes: a dark chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, a milk chocolate with chocolate chip studded cream cheese filling and topped with chocolate frosting, a citrus cupcake with lime flavored frosting and a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I savored/devoured the carrot cake while at the shop. The cake was moist, dense (but more cake texture than fruit cake texture) and filled with carrot and pineapple. The cream cheese frosting was soft and perfectly sweet - not too sugary! I think the owner thought I was a little nuts over this cupcake...glad there wasn't a recording or others in the shop at the time. The other cupcakes were enjoyed with the hubby later on and they were good. Let's just say the carrot cake made me a fan! read more

The caking was so deliciously moist and flavorful, retaining a full chocolatey flavor with a hint of coffee or some other undertones, much unlike other batters where the chocolate dries out with the breading. My husband and I hired Midnight Cupcakes to do our cutting cake and cupcakes for our August 2018 wedding at the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House in Baltimore, MD. We absolutely loved the cupcakes and cutting cake! We chose the salted caramel, vanilla, black velvet and birthday cake flavors for our cupcakes and had a salted caramel cutting cake. All of the items were SOOOOOO tasty and looked amazing displayed at the venue on the cupcake tier and cake table. We couldn't have been happier! Sandra was very easy to communicate with via email and our tasting in the store was lovely and very helpful in determining our flavor choices. Delivery of the cupcakes to the venue was smooth and we were able to drop the tier back to the store a few days after the wedding. Midnite is my go-to cupcake place in the city! Every cupcake I've had has been amazing and I love how cute the shop is. In my opinion, customer service can make a break an experience and my willingness to come back and visit your shop again. When I ordered two dozen cupcakes for a birthday party and went to pick them up I was surprised to find out that my order had been lost and they were not ready. Before I had time to panic the manager came out to speak with me. They let me pick a mixture of cupcakes and only charged me a fraction of what my total should have been. Located in Federal Hill, Baltimore on Charles street. Charles Street is a filled with great restaurants so its super convenient to just walk on over to Midnite Confection's Cupcakery for dessert after dinner. It is black-owned (I think) which makes me want to support them even more. Their baked goods are delicious! I have only been once so far but I look forward to going back many more times. This is the level of service that Midnite Confection's Cupcakes provides to their customers. Sometime in November, I called them to order surprise cupcakes for my best friend who was getting engaged. I was told over the phone by an employee at Midnite that they did not deliver personally but could get it delivered through GrubHub. I ordered a set of half of dozen flavors that I was told could be decorated with beautiful engagement toppers, lettering, and opted to write "Congrats R&J". I placed my order on the phone with them and then also placed it through Grub Hub as I was told to. This is the product that my friend received on the day of her engagement, which is nothing that I was promised or even advertised on their website. These are not engagement toppers or printed lettering, rather it seems like it was poorly written with store-bought icing. I reached out to Aaron, the manger at MCC. At first he responded promptly and provided his apologies, saying he wasn't working that day so it was not him that had personally made or even seen them and promised me a refund. I did NOT hear from him a single time since. I reached out to him multiple times for the next 4 weeks and finally he responded to an email, continually stating that he would refund me, asking for my number. I still continued to never hear from him, even when I called the store. When he finally calls me back today, I verbalize how I feel that I have been provided terrible service, he angrily tells me that "I don't know him and that he provides great customer service, look at my reviews." And also states that he "doesn't even have to provide me the refund and that it was through GrubHub that I had placed my order." But who made those cupcakes though? Let's be real here. I will never be coming back to this place as their cupcakes are unprofessional, just like their manager. read more

First off, I hate the set up of this place. It's bare with nothing but a shelf with one cupcake on each shelf-an odd sort of display. Kinda tacky. HOWEVER, I don't rate a place based on the ugly decor...so let's get down to the cupcakes! I had a very odd first time experience eating this cupcake. Let me explain...I had the black velvet. My first bite was awful and tart-the frosting was WAY too cheesy. With my second bite I started appreciating the perfect texture of both the cake and frosting and the way the flavors melded together. By my third bite, I was in heaven and the flavors were a perfect balance of sweet and creamy. The cupcake itself was pretty good - moist cake with a dollop of (?) cookie dough inside, with a vanilla bean flecked buttercream - tasty but not anything special. The inside of the shop could use some work: it felt very empty and lacking in personality. And the cupcakes were displayed in a tall glass display case - which I, personally, found very weird and off-putting (think, the kind of piece your great aunt would use to show off her Hummel collection). There is a small area where you can sit and eat your cupcake in the front of the shop but I felt kind of awkward doing so, as I was the only one there. All in all, I would probably go back if I was in the area but definitely would not go out of my way for one of their cupcakes. read more

THE BEST CUPCAKES I HAVE EVER HAD! The Full Moon is my absolute favorite! It's a bourbon Madagascar vanilla with vanilla frosting that will blow your mind. A close second is the Black Velvet, it's out of this world also! The cupcakes are always moist and full of flavor, the frosting is smooth but not waxy or oily, and the cake to frosting ratio is perfect. I really enjoy all of the flavors that I have tried, but I tend to stick with the Signature flavors, all uniquely named after solar activity and I love the "Midnight" theme of the business. It takes a few minutes to get the cupcakes boxed up, but it's totally worth the wait, and the drive to get there. I am in love with these cupcakes. They may or may not know my name, but they DO know my face. There is nothing too fancy about their cupcake design (unless by request order), and it does not need to be. These cupcakes are just so fluffy and decadent. I have not had a better cupcake (me and my twin are cupcake hunters). This summer is when I first found them and I am not ashamed to say I have filled up my frequent buyer card. I cannot stand Tiramisu cake because it's wet and has an overpowering coffee flavor. But these cupcakes are SO good. I don't know what is in it, but I'm telling you that if you see these in the shop to just give them a chance. Midnite- Midnite is like a cream cheese marble fudge brownie cupcake with icing. Playboy- A denser cupcake, carrot cake inspired. If you like carrot cake, then you will like this cupcake. Eclipse- Vanilla cupcake w/ chocolate frosting. The Madagascar vanilla flavor is just a little bit different than your regular vanilla cupcake, but it's good. Birthday Cake- I love the birthday cupcakes. I will say it is not that traditional funfetti flavor you would expect it to be. To me there I taste an almond and vanilla extract similarly found in, well, and almond cookie, or pistachio cupcakes. Full Moon- I honestly don't really remember the exact taste. It's vanilla on vanilla. pretty simple. Subliminal- A citrus cupcake with a citrus/sweet frosting. The frosting was a bit too sweet for me. The good news is you can always mix/match the frosting. I would probably just do a cream cheese frosting found on the velvet cupcakes. With cupcakes like these, I do not understand the lines outside the disappointedly miniature and unexciting cupcakes shops in DC. read more
