One of our garage doors stopped working on a Sunday morning. The chain was hanging down low and…read morewhen I went up to take a look, I could see that the sprocket had sheared right off the motor. I called a few local companies and left voicemails to hopefully get the problem fixed the following week -- Steve from Lowell Overhead Door called me back that same evening and set up an estimate for the following morning (Monday). I had received quotes from other contractors, but Steve was the only one who was willing to come out and take a look at the openers and the doors to see what else, if anything, needed to be fixed. The other contractors wouldn't come out without charging a service fee. Steve and his son, Justin, came by as promised and evaluated my garage doors. We talked through a few different opener options for replacement (which had been recommended by other contractors as well), and ultimately settled on replacing both openers and replacing the door rollers. They agreed to come back the next day to do the work, and they did so -- both Steve and Justin came back and they did a great job. They removed all the old wiring, cleaned up the garage after they were done, and even helped me program my vehicles. The total cost for the job was several hundred dollars less than what other contractors were bidding (for the exact same scope of work and exact same openers), and I felt like I was in good hands the whole time. I'd gladly trust them for any future garage door work, and have already recommended them to neighbors and friends.

I'm updating my review to five stars…read more Stephen and Justin Nelson of Lowell Overhead Door both reached out on this platform and wanted to come out right away to rectify things. They are currently troubleshooting their website to determine why they never saw our emails requesting their assistance. They made good on their promise to perform maintenance for the install mixup and addressed our concerns completely. That's the kind of customer service that drew us to hire them initially and that's the type of service that will keep us coming back and recommending them to friends and family. Thank you Stephen and Justin! Previously reviewed 3/15/2026 Rated 2 stars I hate to give bad reviews because I know how much businesses rely on reviews... it's their reputation on the line. I've given grace to this establishment however my patience has run out. A bit of background first... We knew we needed a replacement garage door because the door was rotting at the hinges. We had several companies provide estimates and ultimately decided to go with Lowell Overhead Door based on the initial meeting. Stephen Nelson of Lowell Overhead Door came out to our home in Amherst, NH and reviewed our options. He was very courteous, professional and prompt to respond during the process of purchasing the replacement door. We selected a Haas door. Stephen and Justin both came for the install of the door, rails and chain. Unfortunately most of the work was complete when we realized they were installing the wrong door. We decided to accept the door anyway and Stephen was nice to offer two maintenance visits for the mixup. We were grateful and impressed with his customer service. Once they left, that level of service disappeared. We have been trying since December to connect Lowell Overhead Door via text, email and their website because of performance issues with the door (intermittently reversing direction or not going down all the way, significant slack in the chain and the door striking the floor violently). We have received no response despite multiple attempts to make contact. With the spring coming, we want to use one of the maintenance visits we were told we would receive for their installation mixup. Again we've tried to reach out to no avail. So if you're looking for a company to install a garage door for you, you might want to skip Lowell Overhead Door if my experience represents how they treat customers after the sale and install.
