A technician erroneously installed springs rated for a 160-lb garage door. My door weighs 120 LB. This caused the pulleys and cables to fail and put excessive force stress on my garage door opener. I had to replace the springs, pulleys, cables, and garage door opener. When this was brought to their attention, the VP of the company refused to take responsibility for their technicians' mistake. We got LiftMaster Elite Door openers with LED lights and battery back up. Excellent, fast openers. Caleb was the installer, I believe, along with another installer. When we had a power outage that shorted out our garage door we immediately called Middlesex Door Systems because they installed the door and did a good job. I spoke with a woman who informed me that the cost to have a tech come to my house was $175 minimum just to give me an estimate! The woman I spoke with had no sense of urgency and was not helpful at all. I was very disappointed, especially since I have referred people to MDS for years. I called to get my keypad code changed, a new remote or two, and some maintenance. Was told a scheduler would call back. They did, and I was given a two hour window for the technician. The technician did not show during the specified time frame, actually arrived 1/2 hour late, with no call from the company letting me know technician was running late. By the time the technician had arrived, I had already left for my own appointments. Not sure if the technician didn't let the company know he was running late or what happened. Had 2 Chamberlain belt drive garage door openers installed by them. I called one day to get a price for installation and after shopping around 2 other places theirs was the best so I decided to go with it. I called back the next day, and was told rather rudely that they do not install any garage door openers but the ones they carry, of which there are 2 options, and which despite being a worse package of the same openers I had already (less accessories and remotes included) would be $75 more. After trying for 15 minutes to get me to pay more for the same opener, their rep finally agreed to schedule installation of the opener systems at $180 each, with a year warranty on labor. Installation went smoothly, my wife dealt with it but their installer was in and out in under 2 hours with both garage door openers and associated paraphernalia installed. Fast forward to less than 3 months later, and the belt slips off of the front pulley on one garage door rail. The belt went up on top of the pulley and got chewed up when the door tried to close, and in the process also broke the rim of the pulley so that would need to be replaced as well. The only way that belt would be physically able to slide off of the pulley is if it was not installed correctly in the first place. So I called them to have it come out and fixed, and the same rude rep I spoke to flatly refused to cover it. There's no way I can recommend a company that would not even consider honoring their labor warranty. read more

I don't know anything about this company. I've never had them to the house. However, my home has a garage with no other way to get in except through the garage door. There's a keyhole and a cable attached to the inside. The cable runs to the manual release but there's so much slack in the cable that it's clear that turning the key won't do anything to make the cable trigger the manual release. I'd like to ignore this but I didn't want to have to deal with it in case of a power failure or even worse a motor failure. Would I have to have the door dismantled to get in? Since I couldn't find any relevant reviews on Yelp, I searched on Google to find Middlesex Overhead Doors. I called and described the problem. Just told me that the way it works is that after turning the key, I was to pullout the cylinder with the cable attached and pull it myself! Duh! NO service call to "check out the problem"! "We like to be helpful." was the response of the person who answered my call and bailed me out of my predicament. Thank you! Thank you! I recently had a problem with one of my garage doors. The motor died and I could not open the door. I suppose after 25 years I cannot complain. In any case, I went to Yelp and found Middlesex Overhead Doors. There weren't a lot of reviews, but the ones there were all very good. I wanted this fixed quickly as it was an inconvenience. I spoke with Shirley in the office and she gave me a complete rundown of my options. There was no hard sell and she was very knowledgeable about the products. I was also very happy with the price. It was less than I had expected. We agreed on what I was going to get and then I asked her when could the work be done. I was certain with the snow we have been having, it would take awhile. Much to my pleasant surprise, she was able to get the work done the next day. Scott was the person who did the installation. He was right on time and even called me after he left his previous job to let me know he was on his way. He told me it would take a couple of hours (I decided to do both doors since I thought it was only a matter of time before the other motor would go) and that is what it took.
