This is a third generation farm - their grandparents immigrated from Japan in the early 1900s. It's almost 300 acres and they've got apples, pears, peaches, cherries, berries, and probably more. The farmstand is open July through November. They've got a pick your own/U-pick options. They specialize in growing over 150 different varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and stone fruit. Their website is pretty up-to-date on which fruit are available at any given time. I really enjoyed stopping into the marketplace for a wide selection of pre-picked fruits, some of which had samples available. They were priced by weight and I was very pleased with the cost in the end ($12 for so many apples!).

I also walked through the orchard and loved that they labeled all the rows of trees so you can see all the many varieties. While I'm disappointed that the apple tasting still costs as much as last year, the experience is otherwise great and I'll be back.

Haha. cherrie and berrie picking and eating are one of summers delights! Montavons Berries is further up north in the Fruit Loop, #19, and in the same area as Grateful Vineyards and Mt. View Orchards. Plan a stop at all three and it's a worthy destination. Pick fruit at Montavons and Mt. view Orchards then have a pizza and hard cider, beer or wine on a picnic table at Grateful Vineyards. Mt. hood stands proud as the backdrop at all three places. The first crop to arrive are the cherries and they have several varieties. Bing are the most common and I love them so I always buy several pounds. Have to also get the golden and sweet Ranier cherries, too. And if they have the Sandra Rose, you must try! They have a darker glossier skin, red black in color, and are the sweetest of them all! As the season continues they have several types of blueberries and Willamette raspberries. Both delicious and easy to pick. The fields are layed out on flat land with plenty of space between rows. It is very sunny so wear a sun hat or cap and definitely put on that sunscreen. you will thank me. This is one of the smaller family run farms which is always my preference. Everyone is so nice and helpful. As soon as June comes around, I visit their website daily to see when the first of the cherries are ready to pick! And I pick and eat my fill! Til next year...

I know there are a ton of great farms and orchards in Oregon, so I started my explorations here. I'd read that they have a mean marionberry shake. When I got there, I saw that, for a dollar more, they also had huckleberry. I'm not sure if I've ever tried huckleberry, so I wasn't sure if I would even like it as much as marionberry, which is my favorite. So I picked marionberry, and it was bomb. Although it was on the expensive side for $8.99, it was pretty good. I also purchased a marionberry peach turnover for $5, and thought that was just okay. I loved their selection of high end jams and syrups. They have so many artisan products that would make great mother's day gifts. The girl who helped me was really friendly and made my milkshake right away. She gave me a free map of the Fruit Loop, which is Oregon's chain of fruit orchards with gift shops. Can't wait to explore more of those.

You're really paying for the Fruit Loop experience, I guess. - Purchase required to go outside and even see the goats and the yard. The rest of the farm is entirely inaccessible. Seems like a money grab. The ugly: - Just about everything in the store was wildly overpriced. $10 Mason jars that you can buy for $2 at a thrift store (and they probably did). $18 for a bag of scone mix. $25 for a small candle. It's great if you have cash to burn and want to take the kids for an atmospheric fall trip, I guess. I found it kind of ridiculous.

Blackberries, peaches, blueberries, apples, corn, various greens, melons, green beans, strawberries to name a few. Plus all your produce staples like onions, potatoes, various salad greens, broccoli, spinach, shallots, lemons, limes, green onions, sweet peppers, hot peppers and more. Many of their their products are jarred for sale. They have several types of jams from local farms. Get the red-sour cherry and the marionberry! Oh, and the fig jam, so good with prosciutto on pizza or a crostini. They have lots of Dickey's pickled veggies, too: beans, garlic, asparagus, carrots, giardena. And so many salsas with various fruit. Don't forget to pick up a jar of local. honey - they have all sizes and the prices can't be beat. Very nice selection of local wines, too! Some of their other customers told me to buy a frozen fruit pie, raving about how they taste homemade. I was tempted, but I wasn't heading straight home so I'll make a special trip for that when I'm entertaining or invited to dinner. They were out of fresh eggs, but I'm glad to know they carry them for when my egg dealer is out. Yes, that's what I call her! LOL. Once you start cooking with fresh eggs, there is no going back.
