I first stopped in to get my truck smogged and they were able to get that done in a timely manner. That is why I gave 1 star. When they finished my smog i told the service manager I had an issue with my brake system, which he confirmed it was the hydro booster. I normally take my vehicles to a very honest and reputable mechanic in Santee. I thought i would save myself some time by having midas preform the repair since i live in PB. He wrote up a quote and said it would be a two hour job. I left a $100 deposit for him to order the part and i could pick up the vehicle early in the day. I understand things go wrong from time to time. I dropped my truck off at 8:30 in the morning and figured i should get it around noon. So 3 oclock rolled around and i had to call them to see what was going on. "They gave us a defective part", the man on the phone said. I asked if it would be done by six and he assured me it would be. So at 5:30 i rode my bike down to check on the progress. The young mechanic was scrambling to finish the truck. Once they finished the installation and went to start the truck the battery was dead and the truck wouldn't start. At this point the manager said he would give me a free battery. That was cool, who is going to argue with that. After taking care of my bill ($500+) I proceeded to drive home. I got in my truck and noticed they had broke my gear indicator (orange bar indicating gear position). Then once i got home and parked i realized my brake switch was stuck on. So long story short i took it in for one problem and left with two. They offered to fix both items the next day but i was hesitant to take my truck back. I was driving through Vista yesterday afternoon when my linkage broke to use 4 wheel drive. I see this Midas shop and drove in. They were very friendly and took my truck in right away. they discovered that a small part broke. They fixed it and waive any payment. I've never used them before but plan on in the future. Midas Muffler, 1150 S Santa Fe, Vista CA versus American Auto Clinic, Escondido: Dishonest, disenchanted, degraded! Today 7 2 2018, I took in my car to Midas after running over a berm and had thought, done some damage which created a noise/vibration. 2 road tests and searching on underside of car. One tech. could find no damage. Second Tech. found a nick on the shock. (Overheard the conversation) Chris (customer service) Because of the damage I had caused from the berm. Cost will be @ 517.00 for rear struts and shocks but said, "Best to do front and back @ 848.00 or the car will be off kilter". Don't you love it??? Honesty, NOT! American Auto Clinic Escondido: Owner Matt is the most honest business owner I have ever encountered. His prices cannot be beat and his expertise is beyond reproach. His shop of mechanics will not stop until they find the problem. For 5 years, they maintained my 18 year old, Rav 4. Always fair and excellent work. Example: Repair for Air Conditioning 600.00 when I had been quoted 1200.00/1800.00 elsewhere After getting the written estimate at Midas, Vista, I took my car to Matt. Within 1/2 hour, they found it after 2 road tests and some serious hunting. Voila, a bolt which had been knocked loose on the shock while jumping the berm. So Awesome! I have been to Midas a few times for minor car issues... oil changes, air conditioning etc. I've always been satisfied and didn't think it could get any better. Until recently, I was experiencing some serious drive train issues, and came in kinda frantic. It literally felt like my car was going to fall apart, and turns out... it was about to. George and Frank were so helpful, professional, and understanding. Being new to North County, I was hesitant to try a new mechanic, but after this last experience... I have been to this shop 3-4 times and they have done a great job each time. I went there today for squeaky brakes and they fixed the problem right away. I can't recommend this shop enough! Paul and Chris were both very nice and helpful with figuring out how to fix my A/C system. They even reserved a rental car from Hertz for me to use overnight while they worked on my car, and they used some parts I already had purchased in the past to help lower my costs. I've now driven nearly a thousand miles or more in the car, and the A/C is still working perfectly! I would definitely go back if my car needed other maintenance, thanks to their great customer service and excellent work. read more

I had low miles on my 2005 van but the rear brakes were in really bad shape. I thought I could take on the job myself as I did with the front brake pads. I took the rear wheels off under the supervion of my neighbor who is an automotive expert and he recommended I take it to our local Midas which is down the hill and around the corner. In a very professional manner, Paul, pointed out the reality of the situation. It was clearly beyond my scope and ability to repair. He gave me tiers of choices but to do it right I needed some support financially and that is where Midas was able to offer six months' financing same as cash. I thought the expense was reasonable considering all that went into properly installing brakes and rotors. Paul made the repair process convenient. The van was kept securely overnight in the Midas garage and they were able to complete work by the middle of the afternoon after assessing first thing in the morning. The communication was excellent and Paul was always accessible. The peace of mind I have now is priceless because I do a fair amout of people transport and trailer towing. I have a deferred maintenance items to address and I'll be taking the rig to Midas without hesitation. read more

I was looking for a reliable, honest and friendly place to take my car. I was always wondering if recommendations were actually needed. But now I feel 100% comfortable. Frank the manager is always so helpful and the service is always fast. I get coupons in the mail for oil changes and things like that and they are always honored. He is definitely well versed in cars and he will even recommend waiting for things if they are not needed at the time. I got a flat, and went in to get it plugged, as well as get an oil change. When I arrived at the shop, I believe it was Frank who happened to be outside. He greeted me at my car and we talked about the work I needed done. They brought my car in right away. Come to find out, I needed break work as well. Both Frank and George were very informative and professional, quick to answer my questions and even went so far as to call another Midas in a different state to double check work that had been done already. If I have not came to Midas at Vista, I probably have issues with my car and probably won't even know why it is happening. At first it seemed like they were really cool and not going to take advantage of me. But then they gradually started to take advantage of they quoted me one price 2 change the brake pads and rotors my F-450 and then they said it's 1200 if we don't need to change the bearings and 1500 something if we do end up changing the bearings. So then when I get around to seeing the bearings and they tell me that they're worn out and need changing all the sudden the price was 658 for all the bearings on top of 1500 something which originally they had said was going to be the total price with bearings. So that made it $2200+. Also, they didn't promise me they'd have it done that day, but said they should be able to. I was there watching the entire process, and they were the slowest most un-motivated workers I think I've ever seen. 2 guys were standing around talking for 2 hours while one guy worked on my truck, all of them knowing it was my work truck and if not finished that day I would not be able to work the following day. Then at 3:00 with 1 hour before closing, they completely stopped working on the truck! I know what it takes to finish the job from where they were in the process, and if I were allowed to I'd have gone into the shop and finished it myself as there was maybe 45 minutes of work to do. All it'd take was some hustle, but these boys there don't know what it's like to put in hard work and because of that, I'm losing $300 due to my inability to work the next day because my work truck with all my tools in it is inside the midas garage... read more

Took my car for a routine break job on all four wheels, then when driving downhill on the freeway next day the whole car started to shake and I thought I wouldn't be able to stop, not fun with two kids in the car!! Took it into another Midas in Mission Viejo and the said the rotors were not installed properly for turning and they had to re-turn them solving the problem but meaning I will probably need new rotors on the next brake job. Called the manager several times but he wouldn't return my call. I wouldn't advise taking your car here for a brake job or anything else based on some of the other reviews!! read more

I'll give them 3 stars because the first time I took my Honda to this location was back in April. That was a great experience; management and mechanics were friendly, the work was completed quickly but not suspiciously fast, and they were respectful and didn't push a bunch of up-selling on me. Fast forward to today, September 8, 2015 at 5:25pm, less than one hour ago. I stopped by to see if they could fit me in before their posted 6pm close time. I found the place closed up tight; bay doors down and office door locked. I stopped by Sunday September 6 (two days ago) at 2pm and found the shop in the same fashion, closed up tight. Their posted closing time for Sundays is 3pm but i figured, hey, it's the day before Labor Day, no big deal. Still, if this place has not gone out of business they're not helping their efforts to stay in business by closing early. Does anyone know if this location did in fact go out of business? read more

Called Midas this morning to see if they were busy before I arrived. I needed some brand new tires, the full shabang! got an appt time. I left my house around 7:45 (I'm not that far from this location, appt was for 8AM. I had been in there the day before checking around for quotes. Discount tire, firestone, evans, heck I was curious and even checked costco. Firestone and evans had there no name house tire which covered only 40k miles. Costco had Michelin Primacy MXV4's but they were very pricy with a full set being $496.40 but had a 60k mileage warrenty (plus points for costco, maybe next time when I need the whole shabang and have my own money and job.. Midas had buy 2 get 2 free. The tire they had for my vehicle are Uniroyal (a division of michelin) Touring Trak all season's which covers 60k miles and turned out to be $325.02 at first. Frank (the associate I encountered the day before) recognized me this morning on the phone, and suggested I get an alignment done. I said "Let me make a call" and "Let me look at the tires to make sure you are not selling me something I don't need." One phone call and 5-10 minutes later, I accepted. Due to the previous owner who had not taken care of the car properly after getting in an accident (never got it aligned after they had fixed the car.) I had tread on the outside of the tire but not on the inside which totally caused uneven wear and Those tires lasted only 20k miles which originally were suppose to last 40k (Barum Bravirus 2.) I am glad frank suggested that I get the alignment done, and when you do brand new tires, you get $30 off the alignment. That being said, we still spent under $400 for some great tires and the alignment itself, alignments usually run $90 standalone service. That being said at the end of the visit, it was $395.01 with both discounts applied. The Uniroyal Touring Trak All season tires have great cornering characteristics, provide quiet ride, and have had no issues. After 50 miles on the tires, you are suppose to go back to their shop for them to check you're wheel lug torque to make sure it's at manufacturer specs. I've put a good 30 miles on them already and they are awesome! Sometimes you have bad automotive experiences, sometimes you have great automotive experiences. I had a great experience overall. With the time frame with both the tires and alignment I waited about an hour and a half. (I think the alignment took the longest, not sure.) I arrived 5-10 minutes early, didn't screw around, weren't dishonest, and got the exact quote for the tires that I had gotten originally. Putting on the brand new uniroyal's and realizing that the car was not aligned right, and with the discounts, I will definitely return for the free rotations and the wheel lug torque specification. read more

I worked with Midas in the past and never had a problem until now. I will say the one thing they did which was in a customer service oriented way, was when they totally mishandled the problem they paid to have it towed to my local Midas after two days of messing with it. I was recommended to this Midas from my local Midas dealer farther south when my spouse's car was idling very rough on the highway. Now to be fair it is an older vehicle and things do break down. I initially had the car towed to this Midas location on Monday afternoon, the 20th. At that time I was greeted sort of gruffly by a gentleman named George. He started to get us into the computer. It turned out, like a school bell it was George's time to leave and he wanted to go home. He could have made it less obvious but that's fine. I was then turned over to another gentleman named Frank. Frank explained to me that they were going to put the car into a computer diagnostic system. Once the readout came through, it was determined by the diagnostic tool that their was a misfire in the second cylinder of the vehicle. He suggested a full tuneup, which included plugs, wires, and coils. This would be upwards of close to 900 dollars to do. I explained that such a large cost for an older vehicle I'd like to make a few phone calls, as a family member of mine in NY is a mechanic, so I sought his advice. He explained that if what the gentleman was saying is wrong, is wrong, that they should replace the plugs and the wires first, and then the coil (or coils) as necessary if it was still running rough. It should be noted that a gentleman who I believe is their mechanic was essentially taunting me telling me we "definitely" need to replace the coils and that the wires and plugs would not solve the problem. I found him to be rude and disruptive to the sales process as he is not a service advisor. It was mutually agreed upon at that time to do the plugs and wires first as those would have to be done regardless, and then the individual to all the coils if necessary. At this time it was approximately 5pm. I saw the sign that said closing at 6, but they were taking in the flags and such and it seemed as if they were closing up shop. I was told they'd have the car done relatively early the next day (Tuesday). I was also assured this by the rude mechanic who said he'd be done by 10. At 11:30 I hadn't heard from the location so I called in and was rushed off the phone and told it wasn't done and "yea we'll call you when it was done", no update, no concern, just "we'll call you". At 1:50 I called again because my plan was to pick up my spouse at her work which was an hour from where I was, and I wanted to ensure the work was done. At that time George (still hadn't heard from Frank) said "oh yea, we're going to need to do the coil". I said okay, it'll be done in about 90 minutes to 2 hours, he said yes that should be fine. I then got a call a little over an hour later almost 3 o'clock from Frank (finally heard from him) to tell me the car was running great, all fixed come on down. We came in 15 minutes later to find a panic situation and Frank explained that they let it idle for about 10 minutes and it ran rough again. At that time he suggested it was the catalytic converter, which was another $900 dollar plus suggestion. He explained that his computer systems tells them what steps to take, and that's the next step. I resisted saying that they seemed to be guessing and not actively diagnosing, just doing things the computer tells them to do rather then being a mechanic or a "car doctor" as I would call it where they troubleshoot on their own. This seems to be either not in their wheelhouse or not allowed at this location. Frank then called down to the other location we have worked with and they suggested a slow drip fuel injection cleaning. We waited for an hour for them to do this (to be fair, this was offered at no charge) and it still had the same problems. At that time Frank offered due to my lack of faith in them to have the car towed to the store that we normally work with. They told me the next day after some diagnosing that it was completely misdiagnosed and that two of the cylinders had very little to no compression, which is what the problem was. NOT spark plugs, NOT wires, NOT coils, NOT catalytic converters, but essentially a blown engine (or compression). They explained that the tuneup should have never been done, and advised me to ask for my money to be refunded I called the next morning and spoke to George. He told me"talk to Frank he's off today call tomorrow. On Thursday I spoke to Frank. He again like a parrot told me all about how they did what the computer told them to do. It's like he memorizes this in his head. He then told me wait a day, I did, and then told me no refund and to call the better business bureau. Terrible customer service. They do not mechanic they do what the computer tells them! Beware read more
