I should've read the reviews previously that warned about Midas overcharging and claiming that work needs to be done (when it doesn't). We took our daughter's car in because a warning light had temporarily come on the dashboard. Midas called us and told us what they thought that problem was, (a sensor that wasn't a big deal), but then proceeded to tell us that we needed new shocks, brakes, the calipers were seized, etc. They quoted us $2800(!!), which was far more than the worth of the car. The car had been driving well, so we thought all of this was very odd. We paid the diagnostic fee and nothing else and took the car. We then took it to a garage where we knew they guys and could be sure of their honesty. They gave it thorough inspection and clarified that the shocks were fine, no calipers were seized, but it was due for new back breaks soon. They quoted us $480. The only reason we hadn't taken it there in the first place is b/c they were booked up for a few days and Midas said they could do it immediately. Moral of story--stick with the mechanics you know and don't trust Midas. read more

Went in for an inspection sticker. Was told my two tires were too worn which had caused my vehicle to fail with a Red R. I was only given two options, pay 600$ for new tires to pass inspection OR tow my car. I made sure to keep one of the tires that "failed". I brought that same tire to a different shop without telling them anything and was told the tire was worn but not to the point of failing and without a doubt it would have passed. They refused to allow me to take my car unless it was towed out (I lived an hour away). Never going back. Felt like a huge scam. Wasn't even given a second opinion on the tires unless I towed it out to another shop. read more

I recently visited the establishment for a routine oil change and was informed that, for my safety, it was advisable to leave the vehicle in their care as it allegedly required over $2,000.00 worth of IMMEDIATE repairs. Although I may not possess extensive knowledge of automotive mechanics, my intuition suggested that something was amiss. I declined their recommendation from the outset, and they offered me alternative transportation arrangements, including an Uber, a rental car, or a ride, in an effort to persuade me to leave my vehicle in their care. I have since sought the opinions of two mechanics, and they have confirmed that there is, in fact, normal wear but nothing wrong that needs this kind of IMMEDIATE, EXPENSIVE attention! read more

The customer service is nice, but that's probably how they get you. This place is SCUMMY with their billing/practices. A couple months ago we got our breaks done. Somehow ran us 1800$ for new pads and rotors, a caliper and a line "replacement", all the costs mostly going towards labor, yet they only had the car for a little over 2 hours. And now we're here needing to get the breaks done AGAIN. Needless to say we won't be back, don't trust this place! read more

I was in a bind and it was like 15 min before closing an I had an emergency issue. My tire was going flat and I was flying out to vegas in the morning @6:15 am I had already reserved parking in Rhode Island for ten days. I called several places with no luck I was actually right in n front of this Midas station on state rd in Dartmouth so I pulled in and the guy say I really was closing up but let's see if we can locate the leak. Fast forward almost an hour later James was putting the finishing touches on my very problematic leaking valve stem! He changed it out by disabling the faulty valve stem, we actually needed to get rid of the valve sensor because you do not have a compatible solution. After overcoming the valve stem issue, the tire was not sealing properly against my room, apparently there was several years worth of tire change adhesive, preventing the tire from sealing properly. James then spent another half hour cleaning up the rim on both sides and the tire scuffed up so that it would seat properly. What a nightmare for this guy, but he hung in there and didn't let me down. He knew what kind of an emergency situation I was in and he just kept at it until he was satisfied that when I came back from my trip, the tire wouldn't be flat again, I really really want to thank this gentleman James Spotts for assisting me with this issue and going above and beyond what anyone would consider reasonable. I brought my 2020 Tacoma for a oil change and tire rotation the same thing I done last year the only place I have gone to do a oil change and tire rotation. I always check my truck as a cdl driver and noticed three days later a center cap on my front tire is gone and I go check and notice another one loose they nerver put the metal clips back on so they wouldn't come flying off . They did replace them but what I didn't like a manager told me they looked back on video and they never touched the caps . I kept my cool because they did replaced them but to be lied to because yes they did touch them because I guess I been lucky for 2 years with truck that only had about 7,000 miles when I bought it that the caps never flew off . I will never go back they didn't care how they put my shit back together and to have a stupid comment to let me know just get the caps but watched the video and saw nothing that he never took the caps off was a LIE . Warning!! Warning!! Tried to rip me off! Plus they don't know how to do a proper oil change! Told me my ball joints were "smoked"! I just had an alignment done and they checked them before the service. I brought it back to that service center and they rechecked them, showed me, and verified they didn't need replacement at this time. I could list all the steps they didn't do but that would make this a lot longer. I hate to think all the unknowing customers they rip off. They need training badly. Be careful if you go there! Brought my van in here for an electrical issue as well as another problem. Was quotes to fix the main issue as well as battery. Didn't like their price, so decided to take it elsewhere (after paying a fair diagnosis fee). Other place found out it was actually the alternator that was the issue and fixed that PLUS the main issue for less than Midas. Had I only had the battery replaced, I would have been back in a few months time needing a new battery and would have needed to replace the alternator anyway. I feel like they don't have their customers best interests in mind. Needless to say the other shop has won my business for a long time. read more

I'm from California and have had a bit of trouble getting used to the New England um..."gruffness" for lack of a better word. This place MADE MY DAY and restored my faith in the Northeast. I walked in here to get my inspection sticker and was greeted by some of the nicest people I have met in this area to date. Seriously. What kind of bizarro car repair shop is this where you're not trying to sell me everything under the sun and I'm in and out in 15 minutes? I've found my go to auto repair shop. It took less than a half hour and I could tell I'd trust these people with just about anything. Seriously, by the end of it I was showing them pictures of my kid and they were giving me tips on fun things to do locally. Sure, it was just an inspection sticker. But, it's not like they were schmoozing me to make a ton of money, they were just nice folks who wanted to make sure I was happy. read more

I went to Midas 276 state road, 02747 before COVID, Midas printed out a $1032 bill on my subaru, I'm umassd student and I knew nothing about the car, I paid everything they asked. Later due to the quarantine, I barely drive my car through the year, even the mileage on the odometer now only has less than 1000 diff. However recently I found my car started having battery issue often, called AAA came to help me jumpstart the car, I asked some questions about my car and showed him the MIDAS invoice for the last year maintenance, he told me MIDAS definitely overcharged me, especially for the battery they claim 'replaced' and charged me for $140, it is actually refurbish battery with a wrong size for my car. Also, there are some other car issues like the front light etc, pretty sad cuz I trusted MIDAS, $1000 is big deal to a college student, and the thing is I paid what they asked for but I feel like getting totally deceived because things I went for service, they happened again in less than 1000 miles, including all those strange charges such as 'shop fee', $1000 is never easy for a student, especially during the COVID..I still have the invoice, and my car odometer is only on 1000 miles over the mileage when I went to Midas for service last time. I went in to get a repair on my daughter's car. The exhaust had a slight problem where a clamp had rotted and broken. This held the exhaust pipe to the resonator. The rest of the exhaust system was fine and looked brand new. They wanted to replace the mid-section of pipe from the resonator to the catalytic convertor. For $500.00!!! It only needed a weld and new spring clamp. I was able to get it done at Muffler & Brake on Church St. in New Bedford for $150.00. I had never gone to Midas for work before and thought I would give them a chance. I will NEVER set foot in there again. They clearly wanted to soak me. I have replaced entire exhaust systems for around $300.00 on several cars. There was no need for this. I would highly recommend this service center be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. read more

This is the second time we've tried using this Midas for an oil change and the second time that after waiting an hour they've said they couldn't service our vehicle. The only thing different with our vehicle is that it has a special part to make oil changes EASIER. We explained how to use it when we dropped it off. Now we have to wait to go to our dealership because the people here couldn't figure out how to twist a knob. An absolute waste of time. read more

I would never recommend anyone to go here. I dropped my car off on over a week ago to just get new breaks, rotors and an inspection sticker. They called me that same day to explain I also needed rear tires to pass inspection. Quoted me a price. And I then didn't hear from them for days. I finally called and asked what was going on with my car and they assured me it would be done that day, but I had an event to attend so I was unable to get it. They said my car was completely done, driving fine, and passed inspection. Come Monday, I get a call saying my car will not turn on at all. 5 days later I finally call and express my frustration. Today my car was ready to be picked up and they attempted to charge me $250 more than my original quote. They then told me basically "whoops, that extra $250 was for someone else's car." Is that a joke? I then get in my car to find a razor blade on my dash and .5 gallons left in my tank. I don't even make it to the gas station before my entire speedometer, gauge panel FLOPS OFF and onto my steering wheel. I turn around immediately and they rushed outside to the PARKING LOT to then popped it back on for me and dispose of the razor blade. To let me drive off like that is completely unsafe, unprofessional and for lack of better word, just crazy. To forget to fix something, that they really should have never had to touch in the first place is absolutely unreal. A simple break job and inspection sticker should NOT have turned into this nightmare. I would never return to this establishment and highly encourage everyone else to stay far far away. read more

They will have always explained exactly what they were going to do and their prices have always been fair. They have never tried to get anything extra out of us and they have told us at times that we didn't need something done when we brought the car over. Scheduled an oil change, tire rotation & inspection sticker online. Never got an email confirmation of the appointment, I had to call to see what was going on. The guy on the phone said he would squeeze me in the time slot I had already requested online. Obviously, their online appointment system doesn't work. I got there & the guy behind the counter was pretty rude, looked at me as if I was a dummy for not knowing I needed my registration. I went out to my car to try to find it & could only find my expired registration which has all the same info, he refused it & acted even more rude so I left & took my business elsewhere (did not have an issue with the expired registration either!). I used to go here for all my oil changes but will never step foot in the door again. I took my vehicle to Midas on State Rd in Dartmouth when it overheated. I've been going there for probably about 8 years for different stuff. They quoted me $630 to do the repair work. I checked with another local shop that has a great reputation and they quoted me $458 for the same exact job. I called Midas back, gave them the opportunity to meet the pricing and when they couldn't, told them the truck was moving because I could save almost $200 elsewhere. The technician I spoke with there was very rude and immediately told me they weren't releasing my vehicle unless I paid a $45 diagnostic fee. In all the years I've been going there I don't believe they have ever assessed me this fee. They didn't even make me aware that they would charge the fee until after the diagnostic had already been completed. For sure I will never go back to that shop, there are only about 100 other options in Town:) read more

Let's face it no one wants to have to go to a muffler place. However after our experience with Donna (the owner) we don't mind going to this Midas in North Dartmouth. We have a van that accommodates a wheelchair which requires a skilled mechanic to install a muffler. We were visiting area from Virginia when our muffler gave out and started to drag the street. We feel blessed that we found Donna at Midas as she made a bad experience pleasant. We were greeted in a friendly manner and after a few minutes of inspection the mechanic was able to tell us what was needed for our repairs. While we waited for the predicted 2 1/2 hours Donna engaged us and made time fly by. The van ran so quiet after the job was completed we didn't realize that the van was already running when we sat in the seats. All in all if you need quality work with a friendly environment we recommend Midas in North Dartmouth and ask for Donna! read more
