I called last week for a 19am apt. I arrived early. Only 1 car in the 2 stalls. Jim, at the counter was rude right away because after waiting 10 minutes for him to get to me, I was getting a cup of coffee and annoyed that I had to give him info he already had. The guy he waited on first, had called 29 minutes prior and was also given a10am apt. A young lady came in and her car was driven in immediately. It took 45 minutes to even pull my truck in. From what I observed, the goal is to sell brake pads, rotors, and complete flush of brake fluid to everyone. Oh, and $59.99 fee for shop rags. The quote came back just under $1200 for brakes all around. I chose not to use their service. While writing up my estimate, Jim thanked me for coaching the young lady sitting with me. He wasn't happy with me because I was messing with his sale. I told her is she was hesitant, to get another estimate elsewhere. She could always come back. He also told me the he didn't know anything about the $50 per axle discount that is offered online. So if you don't know, he won't give it to you. To top this off, he told me my lug nuts didn't match and were a major safety hazard. I explained there was a locking lug in each wheel. He said "Oh no, there are a mixture of lugs on every tire". I gave up trying to explain. He was bent on selling me something, regardless of what he had to manufacture. I just wish I had called him on it and had him show me. I highly recommend you go elsewhere. Especially if you are female or don't have a knowledge of brakes. There has to be a reputable shop in the area. Shop around! read more

I scheduled an appointment with midas to have an inspection and alignment done along with a couple codes looked at on my '97 chevy. Went in and met with Jason, solid guy. I told him everything that I have personally done as a DIY mechanic to fix the issues and told him about what another shop was charging for the front end work. He was shocked at how outrageous the other shop was being and gave me a realistic rate that was far better than what I was charged at another shop. He definitely met my gold standards in an auto mechanic, someone who is upfront and operates in good faith, thats how a shop should be run, that's how you gain business and repeat customers by leveling with customers and working with them on what needs done and what can wait. Took my car there August 10th to get my input speed sensor fixed they suggested I replace both so I did them I pick up my car they trying tell me I need oil change and new carbon air filter and another filter if u look on my window it shows it was already serviced just trying get more money out of me. The next day my check engine light came back on said something about my clutch actuator they cleared it looked at the clutch saying it was fine. Now less then 2 months later my transmission light came on and check engine light ran a machine it said my output speed sensor something they was supposed to change I towed my car back and now they trying tell me I need new clutch after they said it was good I would never suggest anyone to go there. I felt bad recommended 2 other people and they tried to rip them off. Do not ever recommend them to no one ever again very unsatisfied. read more

Came in here because my car was making a rattling noise while it idled. They original thought it was my belt tensioner, which would've cost me over $200 to replace. Upon further review it ended up just being a loose bolt from my alternator bracket. If they didnt do a proper diagnosis I would've had to pay for something that I didnt need. Having lived in Norman for the past four years, you could say that I have made my rounds to the various car shops. Some started out OK, but always found a way to disappoint me whether it was with shady diagnoses, outrageous prices or calling for unnecessary work to be done. Midas is the first place I have been where they have taken care of me on issues big and small without cleaning out my bank account. Coming from a small town where the shop owners and mechanics knew my family and always worked out deals on my crappy cars, it has been a long haul to find someone that compares to that caliber of service. I am pleased to say that this Norman Midas comes pretty darn close. The manager always remembers me and my husband and is great at putting things in layman's terms and not using his superior knowledge against you. If he breaks it all down for you and you choose to opt out of something, he may disagree, but he has never pressured me to do or pay for anything. He genuinely cares about your car and will be honest if he thinks you should scrap it or put the time and money into it. The owner is equally impressive and obviously works at keeping his staff happy. He has even helped work on my cars and complimented my Pink Floyd CD that was playing when they turned on my car. Good taste in music is obviously a plus. The wait can take longer than some of the other places I have gone in Norman, but that was usually on a Saturday when they had a long line of oil changes. They have plenty of coffee, magazines and a TV going to keep you occupied while you wait, not to mention, comfy and clean couches and chairs to lounge in. Midas is incredibly thorough and reasonably priced for the quality of service you receive. They are the only mechanic I go to in Norman and the first one I suggest to anyone looking for a friendly, knowledgeable and honest shop! read more

Oil was changed here. Adequate job. However, after the oil change we noticed the car emblem was missing. When this was addressed, the "boss" got defensive and made it seem like we were accusing them of stealing an emblem. Better customer service. Also, inspect your car before leaving. read more

On one visit for an oil change it took more time than normal (about an hour). For my trouble Steve didn't charge me. I can't say enough good things about Midas on West Lindsey, and especially about Steve the manager. I'm a young single person with no nearby family and very little car experience as a new driver, and I absolutely have been cheated by mechanics who have taken advantage of my lack of knowledge--but not Midas. They've done right by me, every single time. Let me give you a few examples: -- The first time I visited in October, I showed up without an appointment for brake maintenance that I had already been sternly warned about at my last oil change and had been neglecting for about four extra months. Unfortunately, by ignoring it and letting the problem get worse, I had worn down all the way through the brakepads and into the rotors. While I was waiting for the repair, I texted my dad all the information I had learned about my brakes and my dad estimated the cost. My dad's estimate was within $8 of the actual price Midas gave me. That's how I knew they were honest. -- In November/December I had an intermittent problem starting my car which appeared to be electrical. Sometimes it would start if I waited an hour, and sometimes it would be fine for a week and then fail every time I tried it for a whole day. These kinds of problems are maddeningly hard to diagnose, and the car happened to start normally the first time I took it in. They made a conservative, cost-effective choice to clean up my electrical connections and flush out my fuel pumps with cleaner. The second time I took it in, it happened to not be starting, and upon a more thorough look they were able to correctly diagnose and replace my starter. Steve the manager felt bad that it took two visits to make the proper diagnosis, so he wrote me a coupon for a free oil change. -- Three days ago my accelerator and my Drive gear stopped working in north Oklahoma City. I had to make a choice between towing it to somewhere close or towing it 34 miles back home to Norman. I chose Midas in Norman (a $190 tow) and I'm so glad I did. It turned out to be the Big One: transmission failure. Yikes. My dad told me to be prepared to pay $2700-$3000 for a transmission rebuild by a specialist. I got a rental car and spent a night waiting for Midas's estimate of what it would cost in-house while they worked through a backlog of customers who got there before me (the parking lot was so full on a Monday at 8:30 am that some people were parallel parking around the building!). I went in the next day for the estimate and learned that, instead of a rebuild, they were going to use their connection to a junkyard that sells guaranteed used parts to replace the transmission. For a $1000 guaranteed used part and 8 hours of labor, my estimate was $1848. When I told my dad, he said I must have a guardian angel watching over me. I do have one! His name is Steve. read more
