I walked in last week, right after my the side view mirror of my car was hit, and they assessed the damage even though they were going to close in 15 mins. The gentleman at the front desk Robert, was very accommodating and upfront, and helped me to feel like my car would be in good hands. I returned the following Saturday to have the mirror installed, and my car inspected. Although everything was not in order, I received a phone call from a gentleman Jack, who was upfront about the issues of the car, and also very accommodating and friendly. Very friendly and professional. My exhaust pipe was making a horrible sound. I thought I was going to have replace my entire muffler but I ended up paying a lot less for a quicker repair which held up very well for a very long time! It made me feel like I wasn't taken advantage of because I know nothing about cars. I would highly recommend them and I would go back for any of my vehicle repairs. They wouldn't rip anyone off. Midas at maspeth was referred to me by a friend who is actually a mechanic for a well known dealer. But at the time he was away and couldn't get to my car on time. I went to Midas and all the staff was friendly and they helped me with my oil change and brakes. I was even able to take a look under my car where I was shown exactly what needed to be done and how they were doing to fix my car. I recommend stopping in or even making an appointment online. Two of my kids worked at a camp in upstate NY and their car's alternator died and was repaired at a shop nearby. The car got them to Manhattan and stopped, meaning they could not begin the 10 hour drive back to Ohio. Don at this Maspeth Midas was AMAZING! He arranged for a tow truck AND for the shop in New Paltz to pay for the towing, assessed the car and took care of the fortunately fairly minor repair without charging us, and stayed in touch during the afternoon with not only the two kids but me, the worried mom! Got a flat tire yesterday. Brought it over to Midas, the man who discussed the service with me at front desk was courteous and professional. I agreed to purchase a new tire for $150+, however when he went and looked at my flat tire he discovered a nail in it and said he could patch the flat tire and I could get some more use out of it. Only had to pay $35 for the repair of my existing tire. This demonstrated to me that they offer fair and honest service at this shop. I will definitely come back for future service. read more

Beware of this Midas for inspections. You go there for an inspection and "supposedly you need something done in order to pass" even though my vehicle is kept in excellent condition. While I was there another customer comes in to get his vehicle and gets hit with a whopping bill that he never expected and never would have approved of. Definitely out to make money off of people dishonestly. Don't believe the hype...Gimmicks all around...will never go there again. Many other shops in the area...drive passed this one. read more

I had my car inspected at a gas station, and while I passed the guy said I needed front brakes. I had my suspicions about this as my brakes had not been squealing or giving me any hint they needed replaced. I went to this Midas today and they took a look and told me that I definitely didn't need new brakes, front or rear. They could have lied to me and agreed I needed a brake job and made some money, but instead they were honest. They didn't even charge me for taking a look, and the manager, Jack, was very nice and made sure I had his card and info on the services they offer. I'l come back here because they were honest. read more

Went there for state inspection. They told me that my car needs front break pads. I was surprised because day before I went to my dealer for oil change and state inspection, which they could not do because of their broken machine and they did mention that my car needed break pads after courtesy meticulous inspection. Dealer's multipoint inspection sheet indicated that my break pads are less than half way through. I guess it is dealer's word against Midas's word. But I'm sure dealer would not pass on this job if my car needed pads and release me in unsafe vehicle. Not wanting to pay for failed state inspection, I went with replacement. Midas charged me $99.99 for Centric ceramic front pads only! + $106 for labor. I think I got the DEAL OF a LIFETIME here as such break pads cost no more than $30 all over the internet. I still could have done good mileage on these break pads. Rip off and scam. Will not go there again! read more
