I brought my Tesla 3 in as my tire had a slow leak. They put it up on the lift with care and determine that a screw had punctured my tire. They patched it up, rotated my tires, and handed me back my car, gratis. That's right no charge. These guys made my day and I will absolutely be back for all my tire needs in the future. read more

So admittedly they were able to diagnose the problem I was having with my vehicle that another repair shop missed. So I thought I could trust them. I went to this location because I was having a problem with shaking in my vehicle at highway speeds. I had a 8am appointment. This is my only vehicle and I am the only one who drives in my household so I knew I was in for a wait and was perfectly fine with that. They did seem kind of annoyed that I could not just drop my vehicle off but some of us don't have that luxury. Well at 9:30am is when they first were able to take a look at my vehicle. By 10am they had diagnosed the issue and told my my front control arm needs to be replaced. I asked how much and was quoted about $1600 before taxes. They also recommended that I get my rear wheel bearings and hubs replaced. They quoted me 1400 before taxes for that job. The manager could see the color drain from my face and said yea parts are expensive now. Well I didn't know what to do as I need this vehicle to take care of my elderly family members. Well just conveniently they have financing I could apply for and "everyone gets approved." I asked what's more important because honestly I couldn't really afford one let alone both repairs. By 10am as I had no choice I applied and was approved for the control arm repair and said I have 90 days to pay before I am charged interest. I had no choice as I needed to get this car repaired. They needed to wait for parts to be delivered and that it could be a while so take a walk and I'll tell you when it's done. Well at 12pm the work was done and I signed everything and left I was stressed but at least I thought I had repairs done. I started to shop around for the wheel bearings and hubs replaced just cause $1400 seems high. Well every other repair place in the area is quoting me $800-$900. In talking with them I told them how much I was charged for the repair of the control arm and everyone told me I was overcharged for labor. I had no idea because I was not given an invoice til after I paid and didn't think twice to look. The breakdown of the invoice for the control arm was $370 per control arm and then almost $900 for labor. Every seasoned tech I spoke to told me that a control arm should take no more then an hour. I attempted to talk to the store manager of Midas as maybe it was a simple mistake and he refused to speak to me over the phone and I had to come in person to speak to them. And that we would talk about appropriate compensation. Side note the hours say they are open til 6pm that is a lie I was there at 5pm and everyone had gone. So the next day I went in the morning and spoke to the manager. Thank you for staying with me for this story so far but I am almost done. After talking to the manager he informed me that according to a local Subaru dealership the control arm would take about 6hrs and that my guy has over 20 years experience and had the tools and knowledge he was able to get the job done in 2. So the pricing they use to charge for labor is they use the same labor hours that a dealership would charge if the work was done under warranty. Because hey Subaru is fronting the bill so let's get some extra hours from them. My car is not under warranty so while I understand that Midas needs to make money to and yes 20 years experience does mean you know a few shortcuts along the way. Don't charge me for 6 hours of work when you only worked on my car for a total of 2.5 hours. And that from diagnosis time and waiting for parts to be delivered and work done. I know I am screwed because I did ok the charge and I didn't do my due diligence and ask for a breakdown before I did on the charge. This will be an expensive mistake for me but I want to make sure everyone is aware check the labor because they over inflate the labor hours and they try and hide it behind experience and how they have a "warranty." If I went to any repair shop they are all going to use the same parts and offer the same warranty. They do seem nice and friendly but that only goes so far. So if you got this far make sure you get a breakdown of fees before you pay and ask why it should take them a lot longer then it did when doing repairs. read more

Midas in Harriman, NY - Pulled in with a broken fan belt and tensioner. Pulled out with $1,800 bill and the belt they installed had to be replaced because it was inferior quality. They charged more hours on the bill than were hours in the day between dropping it off and picking it up. Buyer beware. read more

I was forced to visit the Midas workshop at 140 route 17M Harriman NY10926 due to my 2004 Nissan Titan truck presented a problem during my vacations. When I arrived, I explained to them what the other mechanics had informed me about the Catalytic Converter but they after checked my truck they said that it was definitely the gas pump. They took advantage of me because I was desperate with my family in the Walmart parking lot and after having spent the night there. So they charged me $ 876.87 for just changing a gas pump that does not go over $ 150 and they said it would solve the problem. The problem was not resolved because during the return to my house we had to make many stops since the truck had no strength to move forward so we finally got home at midnight at 20 MPH. read more

I had called about a break light that I had gotten a ticket for and immediately the man in the phone was "joking" saying everyone had told me about it and I chose not to listen so I got a ticket. I ignored it and took my car there anyways even though I've had issues in the past with them not fully fixing my car. When I get there I get a comment about "wow you're driving your dads car and got a ticket on it" to which I replied "it's mine I pay for it but it's in his name" and the manager responds "literally or figuratively" which I thought was rude. Then when he tells me my total he jokes saying "get ready I don't know if your card can handle this" then telling me my cards declining as I'm paying. asked me if I was in school and I answered yes and I work two jobs to which he responded "like everyone else in America" very uncalled for since he asked the question in the first place. overall experience was horrible I already didnt want to go there because of my issues with them before and that just made it ten times worse. definitely didn't make me feel comfortable being a 19 year old girl there without a man. the manager seemed very sexist read more

Out of the 4 times I've gone to them for oil changes I've only actually gotten it done once. The other 3 times they have a million excuses as to why they can't do it that day and to come back later in the week. The one time I actually had gotten the oil change done they kept trying to tell me about 10 things were wrong with my car and I needed to get over a grand worth of repairs from them. Less than a week later I went to my regular mechanic and he said that nothing was wrong with my car. Never going back again. Don't recommend anyone actually going there. read more

I've used Midas for two of my recent big repairs and I have been very pleased with the service and the quality of the work done by the gentlemen that work at Midas. I've had my 2011 Subaru Impreza for about 5 years, first time I was denied an oil change because "my car only takes synthetic." I then drove half a mile down the road and asked the 3 other oil change places and they said it is personal preference. It sounds like they were just trying to upsell. My car was coming close for Inspection, decided to visit Midas of Harriman. They tried telling me my calipers had been malfunctioning in which was causing my rotors "greater" wear than normal use and will fail inspection if I don't do their recommended service. (New Rotors, repair caliper and up sale me on tires). Told them no, fail me, I'll go to my car dealer. Fast forward, I visited my dealer and passed with no issues. Caliper is working just fine. Rotors do have normal wear but didn't have to be replaced at this time. All in all, my car had no issues. Midas clearly tried to take advantage but glad I decided on a 2nd but more over, respectable opinion. Sadly, Midas lost my trust as a whole and will never visit another one. I'm not from the area, my dog was having surgery and my brake line went on my 1998 silverado. I know something about my truck so I knew where the leak was coming from, it was not in the brake or caliper. Simple brake line needed to be replaced on the right front brake. Phil confirmed the $24 price for the line. I noticed there was no labor rate displayed so when Phil quoted me $340 for the brake line I knew, for the 2 hrs he said it would be take, $340 was high. I asked what the labor rate was and he told me $137, which is robbery. I was in a bind, I needed to pick my dog up by 5 and I didn't know where else to go. Job is complete and a $340 bill is now $535!!!!!!!!!!!!! (To be fair, $535 includes tow, $340 does not) LET'S BE CLEAR, FOR A $24 BRAKE LINE. I asked what happened to the $340 and Phil, the THIEF/MANAGER, said that the caliber was giving them a problem and they almost had to replace it. I'm only writing this review now because I had to take care of my animal and CALM DOWN after being robbed. He looked me in the eye and tried to make it seem like he was doing me a favor. Women beware! I came to Midas after I had a blowout on my front passenger tire. I knew the issue was because I needed an alignment. I had a spare tire on already that I repeatedly asked to have back because my car didn't have a donut. they did the alignment and they replaced three tires. I ended up spending over 800 dollars which I was fine with as long as the car was safe. When the repair was done I asked if my tire was in the car which they replied 'yea we put it in the trunk' I went outside and looked and my tire was not in the trunk. When I went back inside the man said 'oh the tire truck already came and we must have got rid of it but we'll give you two free oil changes' I was fine with that. After two months my car started making a weird noise and I made an appointment and brought it back. After they looked it over they said the real mechanic wasn't there that day and they couldn't diagnose it. Anyway I ended up bringing it to another mechanic who I told nothing to just that my car was making a funny noise. This mechanic told me that my alignment was completely off and my brakes were completely warped. I spent another 1000 on another alignment and new brakes. Normally I wouldn't complain but I felt completely taken advantage of especially when they lied and told me they put the tire in the trunk which they did not. I felt like they knew I didn't know much about cars and completely took advantage of the situation. **** NEVER EVER, EVER BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE! ***** Worst experience ever! Brought in my car for an inspection. I asked they also replace the burnt out bulb in my third break light. They said they'd need two hours. After four hours I called & asked if I could pick up. I had an important event that evening. They advised it was nearly done, come down in a another half hour. When I arrive a half hour later, three dopes are all staring at my car. I ask what the issue is, they say they are having a little trouble "getting to" the break light behind the back seat. Another hour passes, I ask several times how much longer, I really need to go, I have somewhere to be. "Soon" was the answer each time. Eventually, some young, jerk "mechanic" comes out front. He is clearly making fun of me, telling the front desk person "he's really got to go, how much longer before he can leave, he has to wash his socks tonight". At this point I demand the car. They bring it around, tell me it's not only fixed, it's also passed inspection. I pay promptly & get into my car. Holy sh*t!!!! A shipping box that was in my back seat full of packing peanuts was THROWN onto the front passenger side. Packing peanuts EVERYWHERE! If you've ever used them, you know those things have serious static cling. They were sticking to literally everything, including my hair & the steering wheel after a few minutes. I then notice one of the head rests from the backseat has been thrown on the floor in the back. Wow! The following day after cleaning up packing peanuts for 20 mins, I attempt to put the headrest back in place. It WILL NOT fit! What the? Two days later I open my trunk to put my groceries in, there are PARTS OF MY CAR in the TRUNK!!!!!!!!!!!! I get home ask my fiancée to please stand behind the car and tell me if the rear brake actually lights up when I step on the break. Can you guess the answer here? Of course you can! It totally didn't work. I called the corporate office & tell them about the nightmare experience. What do they do? They have the owner of this dump call me. He was nice enough, but refused to believe that the parts of my car that magically appeared in my trunk were caused by his employees. He offered me to bring the car in again at no charge to replace the bulb again (no thanks). He also mailed me a coupon for a free oil change. Ohhhh, that should make things all better!! Never did he offer a refund & he never owned up to the disaster they caused. I took my car to Freeman's Auto (a respectable & reputable auto repair shop) down the road. They replaced the light in mere minutes. Of course I had to pay a second time. To this day, I still have an absent headrest in my back seat. Sorry passengers. NEVER ever go to this Midas.
