Misleading quote and poor communication I called Mavis Discount Tire to get a quote for a full set of tires and a wheel alignment. The representative I spoke to gave me a specific price over the phone and even took my phone number to "lock in" the quote. When I arrived at the shop, I was told that no one by that name worked there. The staff searched my number in their system and couldn't find anything. I showed them the phone number I called -- it matched the Mavis location -- but they said there was no record of my call or quote. To make things worse, the price they offered in person was much higher than what I had been quoted. I checked the Mavis website right there, and the prices online were still lower than what they tried to charge me in the store. Very disappointing experience. It feels like there's a serious disconnect between Mavis's phone representatives, website, and in-store pricing. I ended up walking out -- I don't trust a company that can't stand by its own quotes. read more

This location they don't get enough respect for what they all do. I noticed that they were short staffed, and I understood that it would take a while until my car was ready . I was okay with them taking as much time as they needed. I came here because I really needed two front tires. The tires were great, and the tech did a great job. The Manger Jessica was very nice and thanked me for my patience. If you are patient with them and not screaming at them like I saw others do, then they will be nice to you. I've been here twice in the last two weeks for two different cars and the service has been great. They are very upfront and transparent about the work that needs to be done and we're very accommodating. Even when my wheel stud was damaged prior to me bringing the car in they called to update me on the situation, give recommendations, but ultimately do what the customer asks and wanted. I brought my car in because my tire was really bald. I admit I procrastinated. We called Mavis and they were quick and friendly. My fiance gave them 5 stars. My fiance is a mechanic but doesn't do tires. He noticed my tires were NOT rotated. He knows this because the bolts on my passenger side are really hard to get off. Fast forward to this past weekend where I am hearing banging sounds, having a hard time drinking and my brake is very loud. As soon as I get the car lifted we realize only 3 out of the 4 bolts were loose! Only one was secure. I was told they were not put on tight enough and seeing as I drive 62 miles a day this could have been really bad. Super disappointed and will not return. read more

I took my car to have the front brakes and rotors replaced. A day later my car was shaking again I took it back to Mavis. The employee informs me that there was a piece missing and that the brakes were fine. Well my car wasn't fine. I took it to the Honda dealer where I was shown that my so called new brakes and rotors were no good. They had to be replaced as they were no good and pieces were missing from the new parts. I immediately called Mavis to complain where I was met with attitude and questioning. My brakes were on my car less than a week and already needed replacing. I demanded a full refund from them and am getting the run around that a check will be sent from corporate. I will never take my car to them again Don't trust them read more

I think this store deserves a little more recognition that it's rating suggests. On my way back home on Sunday (2.5 hr drive), got a flat on my runflats and very few stores were open and none carried my tire size. I was initially reluctant to bring my BMW to a national tire store chain, but I had no choice since Mavis was the closest tire shop. When I got there, the new manager, Anthony, and another gentlemen gave me a the full run down (and education) on tire options. Never did they try to sell me anything and they were extremely knowledgeable. I'm not sure why I was surprised, but I guess I wasn't used to that kind of service having had bad experiences in the past with other chain stores. They even let me order a tire from another retailer and get it shipped there for them to install! The price was more than fair- it was down right inexpensive for them to take the flat tire off, put new on, balance, and mount. When's the last time you felt like you weren't taken advantage of at a dealership or auto shop? I left the car there and came back on Sunday to pick it up, and I got there 1 hour after they closed (sorry about that). But, I got my car and got back upstate safely. very unprofessional!!! Don't go there!!! Went there on Friday with tire problem. They said - not today or tomorrow. But Sunday any time. I said ok, make it Sunday as early as possible. He said come 9 am you'll be first. I came 9 am on Sunday, reception girl said I will have to leave car for whole day or make appointment... I explained it's second visit, I came this early because I had conversation on Friday and should be in your computer... And I supposed to be first on your list. TOTAL RIPOFF ARTIST and they got caught with their pants down. My front brakes started squealing and I felt that the pads were grinding on the rotors. What I thought would a simple repair to replace the pads and new rotors came out to be a $1400 repair. When I was told this over the phone I was in shock and said I would just pick it up. Now here comes the game playing. After talking to the girl on the phone and back and fourth including managers involvement, the last price because they like me and want to help out was $900. I said i would just pick up my car which I did and drove to Midas on route 17 in Harriman. I asked them to please check my brakes and explained to them as I did at Mavis the problem. They checked my brakes and said the repair would be $450. that's a lot lower then $1400 Mavis quoted at first. I asked the guy about some parts a(capillary's?) and he should me them and they were just fine and absolutely no reason to change them. Brake job completed and I drove back to Mavis and they thought I changed my mind and were so happy to see me until I opened my mouth. It been about 5 months and my brakes are doing very well. Bait and Switch!! I called the number to the Monroe NY store. I spoke to a Louis and asked him for a price to mount and balance four new tires to my 2016 jeep.He gave me a price of 16 dollars each . I felt that was a good price and went over to the store as instructed by Louis. When I got there I met Chris the assistant manager who told me that the price is 10 dollars more per tire because they are new tires and not used and also Louis is from a call center in Westchester NY. I explained to Chris that I was very clear to Louis when I was quoted the price and that I felt this was a bait and switch. I let him know that this was unfair and that I will share my experience . Chris replied that is the corporate policy pricing and that he wants to continue working there. My answer to that is; if enough people get burned like me you won't have customers to pay your salary!!!!! Update : I contacted Exclusive Motors in Central Valley who quoted me 20 dollars a tire to mount and balance 4 new tires that I purchased elsewhere. Keith and crew are great. Efficient, polite and service is affordable. Free tire rotation with every oil change. Tough job when people walk in in a weekend and expect to be out in 45 with no appt. They handle very professionally and do their best to fit them in. Make an appt, on weekends it's a must do or take s gamble that they will be booked. I went to get my tire checked on my 2014 BMW, because it kept loosing air. The tire was fairly new, but because it was a run flat tire, they had me replace it. Before I even got home the new tire was already flat. I went back, just to find out that I had a cracked rim. I find it hard to believe that the mechanic didn't see this when he took the old tire off or when he put the new one on. I asked to return my old tire, so I could get a refund, but they said they couldn't it was in the garbage. Total BS!! Now I'm down $250 and now need to spend another $250. This is not the first Mavis shop I had problems with. I would avoid Mavis in its entirety, they hire inexperienced mechanics. read more
