I also heard one of their employees tell a customer that rotors wear out the same time as break pads and they all have to be changed at the same time which is a flat out lie! I was told by Nicole that it would take 30 minutes to an hour to change my brakes. After 2 hours I asked how much longer it would be and She said just 30 additional minutes. It then took longer than an hour for them to finish after that for a total of over 3 hours. After I drove off, the breaks were making a horrible screeching noise. I went back and they said it was the backing scraping against something and hit it with a metal tool to fix it. The noise stopped but I'm not super confident in the quality of the installation. read more

Last week I was driving home from work when my thermometer light went on, then I stopped at a light and my engine light came on. I pulled into a parking lot and turned my car off. When I turned it on, I was able to make it to Midas on Juan Tabo. I left it with them over night so they could run diagnostics on it. It took almost 8 hours to run this, every time I called that is what I was told, the diagnostics are still running. I had to leave my car for three days, the diagnostics said I needed a new battery. They put in a 36 MO AGM battery in my car and charged me $414.98 for it, without tax. My other battery was only 2 yrs old. Then they took it for a ride and the same lights came back on. Now they tell me they need to change my cooling system fluid which was $129.99, and my charge air cooler temp sensor which was $169.99. I paid $645.81 to get my car back. I have CarShield and they only paid $239.14. I finally got my car Saturday morning at 8:15am in time for me to go to work. Today is Tuesday, I had to go to a doctor appointment at Rust Hospital on the westside. Coming back home, I was on Paseo Del Norte when my thermometer light came back on. I made it to Eubank when my engine light came back on, I pulled over and called a tow truck to tow me to my mechanic to fix the problem the correct way. I am so disappointed in Midas and Michael Smith, the person I dealt with, he took me for a ride and sold me a battery I did not need, and other things, but did not fix my problem. I will NEVER go to Midas again. I also cancelled CarShield, I have spent $7200 on them over the last 5 years and they maybe have spent $1,000 on my car. This review is based on one visit for an oil change. I would rate the actual oil change as GOOD: - I received a detailed checklist with notes - appreciated it - I verified the oil was full (dipstick was dry before the visit) - I verified washer fluid etc. were filled I would rate my customer experience as MEDICORE: - Wait time - I got in quickly; waited about an hour and 15 minutes (a bit long) - Accuracy in taking my information - terrible (see detailed notes) - Attempt to upsell me on items - Yes they did attempt (see detailed notes) Detailed notes: My mechanic could not get me for only an oil change so I saw a sign at Midas for a $49 synthetic oil change. I made an appointment in person with the manager who took my information (incorrectly). I showed up two days later on time for my appointment. I explained again that I was there for the $49 synthetic oil change - plus I wanted an estimate on changing 1 headlight bulb (an easy change). As I sat and patiently waited by reading a book, I started getting antsy after an hour and stood and asked the non-manager person at the desk for the time. He asked my name and said that he tried to call me but I did not answer. He never looked in the seating area to see if I was actually there. So he said I needed a new air filter - showed it to me and it was barely dirty since it was changed less than 5 thousand miles ago. I refused a new one. He then quoted me about $65 to change 2 light bulbs and gave me a price for a package of bulbs. Again, I said NO. My bill would have been about $190 for the oil change and 2 bulbs / replaced with labor. ONCE I REVIEWED MY BILL I NOTICED MY NAME WAS SPELLED WRONG, MY STREET ADDRESS WAS SPELLED WRONG, AND MY PHONE NUMBER WAS INCORRECTLY ENTERED. THIS LEFT ME FEELING INSECURE ABOUT THE CREDIBILITY OF THE WORK BEING DONE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF ATTENTION TO DETAIL. My total bill for the oil change was about $58. I paid and left then I made an appointment with my mechanic to verify the results of the findings on the Midas checklist for the oil change. Midas showed some fluids were low and they recommended differential service. My mechanic found fluids were fine all the way around and said to wait on the differential service if I wanted to do it at some future point. BTW - he charged me about the same as Midas quoted for the 2 headlight changes. Getting my mechanic to verify that the work was done and that my fluids were filled and the oil was at the correct level was important to my peace of mind. I honestly feel a bit bad leaving this review, but I can't help that the customer service was so lacking that I did not trust their integrity. I hope that the manager takes this feedback to heart. I realize auto repair is a difficult business, but customer loyalty should be something for them to strive for. read more

My wife had her oil pump fail and completly totaled her engine. After buying her a new car, my engine oil light came on showing high oil pressure levels and I had a brake light that would not go off. I was told at Midas, that they would check it out and call me back. After $36500.00 later, they replaced the master cylinder, parking brake switch, oil pressure sensor, accel pedal sensor. Guess what, the brake light is still on, they could not solve that problem, and the oil pressure is still showing high. I found out online that Fords have problems with the dash board instrument cluster that tend to fail and need to be repaired or replaced. In conclusion, they fixed about $1,000.00 worth of repairs needed and $2,600.00 looking for something they could not find, let alone fix. Stay clear of this store on Menaul. read more

This location if indeed you find that no other Midas is available , check their work. These guys tend to allow distractions to lessen their focus and performance. Getting a hold of this place can get quite difficult, but once I did I set an appointment at 8 am the next day. They open at 730 am. Was greeted with an attitude from the manager, I told him I was there for an appointment. He responded with I don't see you on here. I reassured him that Patrick set me with one the day prior. Then he says thats why the hell I'm checking then finds me on the schedule. There is literally no one in the waiting room or cars being worked on and I proceed to listen to the same manager making personal calls while waiting. Took about 20 min for them to pull my car in. I brought my car in at 11am and was told there was one car ahead of me for an alignment, I should be able to pick up by 1pm. Then got a call at 1pm asking to push the pick up time to 2 or 3. When I arrived at 3:30 I was told "we didn't do your alignment, there were a few other vehicles ahead of you." To which I responded, "that were bumped in front of me?" And the technician said "yeah." I am posting this review a few months after the fact because I wanted to be sure about my vehicle and any potential repairs. Back in September of 2022, I had just put on new tires on my Chevy truck at the Discount Tires right next door to Midas. I noticed the truck was then veering to the left when on flat surfaced road. I took it to Discount Tires and they recommended Midas right next door. The store manager, Jerome, and one of his techs checked the alignment and told me they could not adjust the alignment because the bushings were wearing on one side. My truck is only a 2021 and this should not be happening 18 months on the road. They used a crowbar to lift the tire on one side and compared it to the other side. The difference was negligible but they said they could fix it. However, and this is where I later decided I have to go through all proper steps of verifying the NEED for repairs, they could replace the bushing and its housing but had to do both sides. Additionally, they could only get the part with the extender arm and not separately. The quote went from a basic alignment of about $130 to over $2500! What?! I said I would have to get back to them as it was too much expense for a simple repair on a fairly new Chevy truck. Then, I took the truck to my best buddy from high school who repairs vehicles from top to bottom. He drove it for a test. It was out of alignment. We got under the truck together and checked the bushings, etc. He said that through his regular contact for parts at a local parts store (NAPA) he could get the single part without the arm for a couple hundred. But before we did anything we should take it for an alignment check at a different location. I took it down to a place on Menaul where they did a test and found they only needed to adjust the alignment. They did a full inspection of all of the suspension and steering and only the alignment was needed. I paid about $130, and all was fixed and working properly. It is now Feb 2023 and, as I mentioned in the beginning, I wanted to be sure that no issues relating to the alignment resurfaced. At this point, we have driven to Tennessee and Florida and the truck is still aligned properly and having no issues. Jerome and his "top tech" brag of 20 years experience each. They are either very incompetent or total scam artists. Trying to get a $2500 payday for a simple alignment is unexcusable. I highly recommend you take your vehicle someplace else. read more

Every time I called for a status update he acted like I was putting him out. Then when I finally dropped my vehicle off for repairs I asked him to show me the part they were replacing and he snapped at me in front of other customers and stormed off into the shop. I went for a free diagnostic of a used truck I just bought. They told me the repairs would cost almost $4000, but I decided to only get the most important repair done first. The cost would have been almost $2000, but they would need to have the part shipped in 3 days - on Monday. The next .morning, I found that I could easily fix it myself for a fraction of the cost, so I told them to cancel the part order, and I'll fix it myself. during the diagnostic, they removed the drive shaft, and pre-installed it to move the truck. When I told them I canceled, they said the part had already been shipped, so they charged me $170 for removing and reinstalling the part - plus another $100 for shipping of the part. they were extremely rude when I told them I just could not afford the repair at their shop. So basically, I was charged $270 for a free diagnostic. read more

If you ever find that you just have too much time on your hands and need to erase an hour from your life for no reason, this is the place for you. I made an "appointment" for a simple oil change; not an engine rebuild, just an oil change. After an hour of waiting in their 99 degree "lounge" I finally asked how long it would be before my car would be serviced. They could not give me a specific time. Therefore I took my keys and left to cool down in a sauna somewhere. I am not sure Midas understands what the word "reservation" means so don't waste your time making one. If you stop in and they are not busy you probably have a fighting chance. I did end up driving one block to Valvoline Instant Oil Change, drove right in, and was on my way in 15 minutes. With all of the options for oil changes in this neighborhood I am surprised that this location is sill in business. Maybe they had an off day but I will not risk another visit. Worst excuse of an auto mechanics shop out there. If you get caught having to choose between who to go to in Albuquerque, these guys should be your last resort! Took our car in for what should be a 1-2 hour job and are still stuck here after almost 4 hours. They will constantly give you excuses saying it should "only be a few more minutes, our technician just needs to tighten a few more bolts" but you can very obviously see no one actually working on the vehicle. They had not given us an exact time on when it should be done until we had to ask about it, to which we were told it would be 1 more hour. Over two hours later, the vehicle was still not done. They put the wrong spark plugs into our truck. This caused the truck engine light to go on while we were on the freeway... pulling a trailer! Such incompetence! They put less oil than the truck called for. 2 quarts less. We had to take it to a dealership to have the correct spark plugs put in. The list keeps going. I have been using this Midas for about four years. When I first came here they were a honest place. The quality of service here has been getting worse. On 8/20/18 I came in to Midas on Juan Tabo at 0820am. It took about twenty minutes for them to diagnose the squeaky front right tire in my truck. They said that I should replace my front rotors, calipers and pads. They quoted a price of $800.00 to do the brakes, The guy behind the counter (Tim) said it should take two hours at the most. I left and came back at 1245. As I walked in Tim looks at his mechanic and asks "did you finish the Chevy yet." The mechanic gave a confused look to Tim. Tim than says something along the lines of if the parts are here get it finished up. He than tells me that it should be another hour. Then at 130 he comes over and says that they are using reconditioned calipers, Tim explains that they always use reconditioned calipers. That they need to order the parts... it should take a little longer. At 220 they have me pay for everything. The truck is done at 230. I won't be coming back. read more

stay far away if you value you $$$!!! my daughter stopped into midas on juan tabo because it is close to home. jerome recomended that she replace all 4 struts/shocks and a have the wheels allignment. she doesn' know anything about cars but believed that jerome would take care of her and agreed to the repairs. big mistake!!! the work was completed in a few hours and she was charged $1400. i looked at the bill and 1/2 was parts and 1/2 was labor. subtracting the parts she was charged $700 for labor. that works out to about $250 - $300 an hour for the work that was done. this should be illegal!!!!!!!!!! they saw a woman they could t ake advantage of and greatly overcharged for the work that was done. i am sure jerome had a good laugh at my daughters expense. keep your wife, mother, daughter or for that matter anyone you know far away from this shop! we are contacting the bbb and attorney general to let them know about jerome and what an unethical shop midas on juan tabo is. read more

Thank You Mathew You saved me 1700.00! I was horrified when my Subaru dealer told me 1700.00 for a new catalytic converter. I went to the jokers at Meinike @ Juan Tabo and they told me my dealer was lying and all I needed was some new spark plugs but without paying them 80.00 for a diagnostic they couldn't say for sure. Out of three mechanics the MIDAS manager took no more then 3 minutes to call my name in the wait room. He determined that my catalytic converter was still under warranty by federal law. During my initial visit I thought I was getting a good deal. My catalytic converter was stolen and I brought it to Midas to get fixed. When my Dad called for a quote, the Manager Jerome Chapin said it would be $1,200. When we got there, that had changed and he said it would be a total of $2,681.75 ($2,299.99 for the part) After speaking to my insurance, they said it would only be a $1,300 job which they got quoted from Toyota. Jerome said this part was from Toyota so why would I be charged $1,300 more?? My insurance agent reached out to Midas corporate and has not received an explanation as to why I was overcharged. I am writing this so other people are not taken advantage of like I was. I do not know how a major automotive repair company to let someone this incompentent manage one of their stores. My friend took her Kia Sportage in to this Midas garage for a power steering problem. It was diagnosed with a bad pump. It was replaced with a new one that was not bleed properly so she took it back. They said they put another pump in. Same noise. Get this. The guy tells her if the noise doesn't go away he will have to use a better quality part. If the noise does not go away. From the power steering pump! Then he is so bold as to say that the car may need a timing belt! Thats what is affecting the new power steering pump! Wants 1800 for the repair. Car runs very solid no engine noise whatsoever! No engine light has ever come on. She took it in for hard steering issues! Now he want to put a timing belt! He scared her so bad about her car she traded it in . I have 35 years in the business. And am recently handicap. And I am just still taken back by these shops that prey on unknowing people. She actually thought she might need a timing belt. Incidentally this engine actually takes a timing chain. Dont trust, no repair talent going on in this shop. Disgraceful. read more
