Once again I decided to give a major brand shop very close to me a try - after not using them for a long time due to reliability and integrity issues. I was abruptly reminded why I don't use them anymore. I went in for a simple annual inspection. I passed but was told that I actually needed rear brakes and rotors - on my vehicle with under 50,000 miles on it. I don't trust them so I took my vehicle to this Midas shop I have been doing business with. Jesse, the Assistant Manager, checked out my rear brakes and rotors and, surprise, there was absolutely nothing wrong with them! I have dealt with Jesse previously and found him to be a very talented mechanic and management employee. Once again the local shop pulled their dishonest diagnosis of my vehicle and, once again, Jesse and Midas proved their integrity. This Midas shop is the only shop I will ever have my vehicles serviced by. Competency and integrity mean everything! This Midas has them both!!! read more

First-time Midas customer. Last-time Midas customer. The infamous "Midas Touch" is real. Everything this shop touches, turns to gold for them. Meanwhile, you go broke haha Seriously, I tasked this location with installing an aftermarket muffler and exhaust tips on my Z28. And due to my procrastination, I had no choice but to go with Midas in order to have the vehicle in time for my wedding. Their customer service was awesome. Friendly and informative. However, the pricing is ridiculous as I was charged just under $400 to weld in an aftermarket muffler, bend some pipes, and install tips. I've gone to another local shop several times and never paid more than $200. I've had them install cat-back systems, straight pipes, etc... Again, never paid more than $200 and they took pride in their work. Not only am I displeased with the price, the tech couldn't even be so bothered as to add a few inches of pipe to the muffler in order to have the tips aligned proper. As you will see in the pics, the exhaust tips are not center. If the tech would've added a few inches of pipe from to the muffler inlet, it would've been on point. And with the price I paid, I expect quality work. read more

As I sit in the waiting room at Midas going on three + hours, on my fourth visit for the same issue. I find out after inquiring how much longer it will be that the part was on its way. How thoughtful it would have been if I was made aware of the fact that they didn't have the part and that it would mean a long wait. When I inquired, I was talked down to by two men at the front desk. I wonder if they would have treated a man that way. Finally, I was told that the part had finally arrived. Johnathan was now at the front desk and said he was sorry for the long wait. I really appreciated his thoughtfulness. It only took about 10 minutes to install the part and I was on my way. We were driving from Massachusetts to Michigan for our family vacation when we started hearing a loud squealing sound coming from the rear left wheel. A quick search online indicated it could be a dangerous situation with our wheel bearings. So, we stopped at Toyota in Colonie to be safe to get it checked out. They said it would cost $150 just to look at it, and we would need to wait. Midas to the rescue! I called Midas and spoke with Jeff, the most polite auto service guy I have ever had the pleasure of speaking with. He said he could have one of his guys take a look right away. They put the car up on the lift, took off the rear wheel when a small rock fell out. Jeff came and showed me the rock and said he was 80% sure that was the culprit. No charge. As I write this we are back on the highway on our way to Michigan. Family vacation saved! Thanks Jeff! And a huge thanks to the guys in the back that looked at the wheels. Midas rocks! read more

I was driving to Albany from Cooperstown when I noticed my exhaust sounding louder and louder, followed by a grating sound like it was dragging on a pipe. I parked the car and tentatively kicked the muffler with my foot. It hung precariously. After calling several garage shops, I finally found one available that day:- Midas @ 967 Central Ave. Derick was very polite on the phone and got me in right away. When I called a couple of hours later to check on things, he explained what he would like to do (cut and weld the exhaust where the flanges disconnected) and quoted me a price, which he stuck to. He explained that I did not need a new muffler or exhaust pipe/system, for which I was very thankful. Excellent service, reasonable prices, and short wait!!! Would highly recommend Midas! Shawn and everyone really was helpful when I went for my oil change at Midas yesterday. First time there and they were so friendly and thorough. I appreciated the excellent customer service and they make you feel right at home. This location is on Central Ave next to the ShopRite in Colonie. I plan on coming here for tires in the next few weeks and bringing all my business to this location. I went to the one on State street (earlier that day) and Although bigger and less busier left to come to this location) They give you an honest breakdown of the status of the car, preventative maintenance and don't push anything on you. Wish I could give more than five stars. I'll be a customer for life, thanks Midas! I have been to Midas a few times for service. I understand that using Midas I am going to pay a little more, and the will try and get you to spend extra, but I have never felt ripped off. So I when my daughter had concerning car issues I was not concerned when she said she was taking it to this location. Then my daughter got charged $1,100 for an oil change, diagnostics and a spark plug change. When my daughter gave them the instructions to do the "simple" work on the car the attendant promised they would call back and never did. Then when she came to get the car, gave her that ridiculous price. The then car ran worse than it did when she brought it in. Do not take your car to Midas. Specially not this one! read more

I reserved a 8:00am time slot for a oil change and an inspection I was told 1 hour ( took 4) so I waited , 30 minutes in they call me and stated that they were having computer issues and it would be resolved at 9 when manager arrived, manager didn't show up until around 9:20 said I work 66 hours a week if I want to be late I'll be late. They then told me I needed brakes and rotors I said fine even after they refused to show me needless to say they also took it upon them selves to perform what the manager stated was recommended service which was a tune up with out informing me when I complained he said to bad I already ran your card it's paid for and if I didn't like it he would pull my car back in and I wouldn't get my car. read more

I brought my car to Midas to have the brakes done. 3 weeks after I got my new brakes my husband was driving my car and was in Queensbury. A large amount of smoke started coming from the brakes along with a burning smell. He pulled over and was afraid to drive. I called Michele who said they would pay for a tow truck to take it to the closest Midas. The Midas in Queensbury verified that it was the brakes. I had to pay for the tow truck out of pocket. Michele gave me an e-mail address to send the receipt to for a refund. I sent the receipt there on June 27 and have not yet received reimbursement. I sent an e-mail to follow up a week ago and all of my e-mails have gone unanswered. This is very disappointing especially since I have been a customer of Midas for years. read more

My son, home from college, needed to get a NYS Inspection on his car. We also had some errands to do and decided to get the inspection done on the way. We stopped at 3 places but they all had at least a 45 minute wait so we kept going. We came to the Midas location at 1722 Central Ave in Albany NY and pulled in. I waited about 10 minutes in the car while my son ran in to see if they could do the inspection. They took the car in 5 minutes later and started the inspection. They did say they do a "21 point" inspection but they did not say how long it would take. The mechanic was inspecting the car for ALMOST TWO HOURS!!! Two hours to get a $21 NYS Inspection sticker!!! AND they came out with an estimate for over $2,000 worth of needed repairs. The car did pass inspection, thank God, and my husband does all our car repairs so we know the overall "health" and condition of the car. I was not surprised by the $2,000 estimate. That's what places like this do. I'm giving them two stars due to the 2 HOURS it took to get the inspection!! Absolutely inexcusable. I would give one star but the folks working there were actually quite nice. Another note: an older woman stopped in to get two lug nuts replaced while we were there. That's it. They put her car up on the lift, removed all the wheels and began their "21 point inspection". She was there for about 45 minutes when we left. Poor thing. She only needed Just two lug nuts!!! I have never left a review this long but I am still incensed about this ridiculous event. read more

I would definitely recommend this Midas to anyone. I have been to both this location and the one at 967 Central Avenue and have had a great experience at both; it feels more like a small, family-owned business than a chain. The service was WAY above what I expected. I went in on a gloomy, rainy day and was having some trouble with my car that I was pretty sure I could not afford to fix. I was expecting long lines, rude employees and price tag that I, a college student at the time, could not afford. But Pam and everyone else working there was SO friendly and genuinely seemed to care. And they ended up being able to fix my car for a fair price. Being a young female who is not particularly knowledgeable about cars, I am always skeptical of being ripped off, but that is definitely not the case for this Midas location. Bottom line: 5 stars!!! I bought tires here back in November with a full alignment/rotation package. Here it is March, my dealer recommended they be rotated when I was there for an oil change last week so I came to Midas today for just that. The man at the counter is grumpy and rude. Questioned why I'm rotating them. Like what is it to you guy? I paid for this package I can rotate my tires every 5,000 miles or as I like as stated in my agreement which I provided. It was the top sheet on the papers I handed him. He said he didn't see it Like just right up the work order so I can get it done and get going. The shop is slow today for a Monday and I can see why. read more

The guy ( Stephen or Steve) says ' It takes 24 hours to get into our system' and the next thing I know the guy starts shouting at me. I don't go there to get shouted at. Quick admission: I am not a car expert. With that out of the way, I do know when I'm being overcharged. In fact, the mechanic all but admitted they charge prices that are higher than necessary. I brought my car in for a simple inspection and left with $104 worth of repairs. I ran this by a friend (who is a car expert) and was told I over payed by around $70. They also tried to talk me into an unnecessary fluid replacement. Avoid this shop, at all costs. read more

The team at Midas has serviced two of my cars and I wouldn't take my Subaru anywhere else now. They are always accommodating, transparent, and so helpful. As someone who knows little to nothing about cars (seriously, I'm surprised I can find where to put the key in to start the thing) they take the time to explain what work the vehicle does (or doesn't) need and I've never once felt rushed or pressured to purchase an additional service. I got the Groupon for the synthetic oil change and tire rotation. The staff was very helpful and attentive. They told me the wait time was approximately 45 min to an hour. They were done in 30 minutes. They were pretty busy but still did a complete evaluation on my SUV. If not for them I wouldn't have known about my broken back light and crooked alignment. I didn't want to fix it and there was no pressure or bullying from the staff. I will definitely return to this location. read more

Was given the car back to me in inoperable condition with no excuse as to why this happened and had to pay for parts and labor. Customer service is piss poor as well. read more

Zero star! Awful place where they overcharge and try to convince you to have unnecessary additional services. I went in to have my brakes looked at and they convinced me to I needed new pads and roters. And because I am from the city and am apprehensive about driving in upstate weather, I decided to get it done right then. Poor decision ! They overcharged me, I later found out. About $60 dollars. And to top it off, they saw that my state inspection was about to be due and kept suggesting I needed engine oil change, x, and y to pass the inspection and estimated the bill to be $1200. It is a glimick to throw everything in so you will be mentally okay with paying a couple of hundreds. A week later, I took my car to another place to have my inspection done and I didn't need half the stuff they said I needed. And the services I had done, I compared the prices on the invoices and no surprised that Midas overcharged significantly. And the guy at the check in desk, fake nice. It is a lesson learned, but I would call multiple shops to get a rough estimate always before committing to the work that needs to be done. read more

I got a good deal on Groupon so I went for an oil change. It took about 1.5 hour for the oil change, which I didn't really care. I ended up with a quote of $1200 for suggested repairs. I actually had a mechanic check a month ago in another garage before I purchased the car. They told me that the car is fine and there are a few things that I need to be aware of. Midas aggravated and exaggerated the problems and tried to overcharged me. Best example is that Midas strongly suggested me to change 3 older tires of my car for about $400. I asked another garage and was told that it'll be $380 for 4 tires. read more

I went for my inspection and although they suggested other items to be done as maintenance, they were also honest and fair, I have a car maintenance tracker app and they were spot on with the suggestions. UPDATE 6/3/14: Forget everything I said in this post, the price I was quoted at that time was way too much and I wish I had taken the time to better research the issue online before agreeing to have them do the work. Instead, I was in a panic living in an area I had just moved to and not wanting to be without my car for very long. I have a different used car today that needed the same exact work done. The quote was slightly more than $150. The car being worked on today is a sedan while the car Midas worked on was an SUV, so a price difference is expected, but not this much of a disparity. read more

Had very terrible service at their Central Ave location in Albany, NY. I found their business to be INCOMPETENT, PUSHY, EXPENSIVE and SHADY. INCOMPETENT - They told me my RIGHT hub assembly needed to be replaced to make the car safe to drive, so I believed them. Upon leaving the car made terrible vibrations and three other garages told me (immediately after this) that my LEFT hub assembly and left tie rod were destroyed and needed to be replaced. They either completely missed that the car needed another $1700 of work (at which point I would have written off the car as a loss and not done any more work on it), misdiagnosed the problem and replaced the wrong side, or damaged my vehicle during the repair. PUSHY - They bullied me into getting the repairs although I didn't feel comfortable spending that much money on the car. There was a tall intimidating guy who insisted that I get the work done, and always interrupted me mid-speech when I tried to protest. Later, after the manager agreed to a price match from another Midas, he was visibly upset when I tried to hold him to the original terms of the price match (no labor charge on the rotors) and ultimately refused to honor either that agreement or the $30 coupon I had brought in. The guys there use intimidation and anger as persuasion techniques. It's effective. EXPENSIVE - They originally quoted me $895 for rotors and hub assembly - work that resulted in my car running worse. Another Midas down the road offered $550 for the same work. SHADY - They didn't show me what was wrong with my car, just insisted that I was in grave danger if I didn't get the right hub replaced. Immediately afterward there was terrible vibration in the steering, and popping when I made left turns - issues that weren't there when I brought the car in. When they agreed to the price match, I believed that we agreed that there wouldn't be a labor charge for the rotors. Instead, they decided that one of my rotors didn't need to be changed after all (the one they replaced last year) and charged me for half the labor, instead of no charge for labor. Terrible experience, wasted $700 for a car that's (ONLY NOW) running poorly. read more

I visited this shop first time using Groupon for oil change and tire rotation package. The shop manager, Pam, was really nice and very welcome me for the service. While waiting in the lobby, you can have tea, coffee or even soda which is not quite often seen in any economical car shop. After the service was done, she gave me all details about the service and inspections and walked through everything on the inspection chart.
