Outside is the best thing about this spot. Once you open the door it changes. The best Mid Atlantic to me is on queen chapel road, but I figured I was near, so why not. Bad decision. Everything looks dry and likes it been there for hours. I'm not eating friend foods during the week so I decided to try the bbq wings which I've had before at Queens Chapel rd location. Everything was fine, no hiccups with ordering or anything. I didn't see any disgusting acts happen. I was pleasantly surprised. When I got home to eat, my dad has already cooked. So... I put my food in the fridge and said, I'll eat good tomorrow. The next day arrives and I pull out my food to eat it, but I see some white stuff on my green beans. So I look closer and what is it???? MOLD! I was LIVID!!! Because how do green beans MOLD overnight when they're refrigerated? That means, they weren't made fresh! I make fresh green beans all the time and they last in my fridge for days. So help me understand why these green beans didn't last??? So I called to complain and ask for them to replace my meal. Guess what they tell me??? They can't, if it were the same day they could honor my request. Ummm excuse me??? I got the food yesterday and it's MOLDED today! How would I have brought it back the same day? There wasn't any mold!! I am TOO THROUGH with this location!! It kinda makes me leary of the whole franchise at this point. And we've patronized this establishment frequently. This was unacceptable and to not honor a customer when they're telling you that they weren't even able to eat their food because it had MOLDED. yes, I went to the door to purchase some food. One door was locked and the other door was open but he pulled the door out of my hand and said they were closed and it was 8:55 and it's listed as closing at 9:30 it was very rude. It wasn't even 9 o'clock yet they close when they want to close treat you the way they want to treat you I'm done don't get my money. I'll travel to another place. I said OK so they changed their time and it's not posted yet but when a male who is working there tell me 9 o'clock and it's not 9 o'clock, it's not like I want some cooked you just gonna take that food put it in the back fridge and warm it up for tomorrow thanks for letting me vent. Nothing major against the food at this place, looked decent but I was actually looking for more of a sea food variety and going in for the first time I was met with silence of all four employees there at the time. A nice little hello or a welcome would've been nice, the three there were fairly young and there was one older women standing aside. The good news is they are generous with the portions. The bad news is you won't want to eat it. I'm sorry but "yuk" is the best word I can use to describe this food. I got the ribs, collard greens and fried potatoes. The sauce on the ribs is mostly vinegar. (some people like that, so if you do, enjoy) The collard greens were pretty good but the potatoes were just okay. The worst was the fried shrimp we ordered for my brother. We ordered the 20 piece because I've never had fried shrimp that wasn't good, until today. The shrimp was so dehydrated it was almost jerky and it has a weird taste that I can't place. The fried pork chops were good. My sister liked the yams and my Dad liked the fried gizzards. Horrible food. While it's clear the menu items are similar to Mid Atlantic Seafoods in New Carrolton & Hyattsville, the recipes are notably different. The mac and cheese tasted like they used some type of powder cheese. The fried chicken had no breading or good flavor. The greens were salty. I ordered this food for Mother's Day because I wanted my mom to try something different, but it was a horrible mistake. We ordered grilled and baked flounder as well as ribs/collard greens/Mac and cheese. This food was nasty, too much salt, and undercooked. I called this establishment to make a complaint and the manager stated that I would have to bring the food to the restaurant for him to see it. I took it to him and he only refunded me for the ribs, but for the rest, he felt we ate "too much of it" to get the complete funds. How could we say the food is bad if we don't eat it? The manager never addressed the undercooked ribs or the other complaints, and was being very rude and antagonistic. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I love the prices for the snow crab legs. That was the only thing I ordered. I don't really care for the buffet that's been sitting there. They refresh the food as I could see. But not my cup of tea. Been going here for years. Noticed lately not only have the prices increased but the portions have gotten way smaller. I wouldn't mind the price hike but at-least give the old portions. As someone who has been a patron at multiple locations (Silver Hill, Lanham, and Laurel). I think it's funny that the further north you go the better the reviews get. It is my personal opinion that if you don't like the food at one spot, then you won't like it at the next one. Overall the food is not horrible, but the biggest complaint I've heard from my peers is that though they have ridiculously large portions. The food is way to under seasoned to be called soul food. This is the one thing I do agree with. This particular location is in the same parking lot as the shoppers and cvs on silver hill rd. This shopping center stays packed, and It's not the greatest area. If you are still curious enough to venture into this area, then have at it. Just be realistic about it, and don't go in expecting a gourmet meal. More like large scoops of "Okay" food. read more

I was very surprised at the quality of the food and the restaurant inside. I order crab legs and since I got the last of the crab legs he gave them to me for a deal. They have a large assortment of food and I ordered the sweet potatoes and they were okay though they could use way more nutmeg and cinnamon in it. I also ordered fried scallops and these were some of the best fried scallops I've had in a long time. They weren't sure they weren't hard it was basically you bite into them and they melted in your mouth. I also have the baked apples with your fine though they could have been a little bit sweeter. They have everything to include chitterlings and a few other items that I would never eat! don't let the outside of the building for you as they have lots and lots of seafood choices Buffet choices fried wings BBQ ribs and even on Fridays you can get shrimp by the pound at a good deal. If you are in the area and you need some seafood and soul food to go this is definitely a place to go. I just had the most HORRIBLE customer service experience in this "restaurant". The asian dude tried to give me some burnt, dried out chicken wings. When I said something to him about it, he got an attitude with ME. His response to me was "That's all we got." A whole argument ensued and I demanded ALL of my money back. They have some good home fries up in this place, and the porkchops are to die for. Overall when you walk in it has an unappealing smell but when you look at the variety of foods they have out you understand why. As you can tell, I love crabs LOL. I will say Mid-atlantic has GOOD crabs for VERY cheap (I've seen dozens go for $11!) and EXCELLENT soul food (smoked turkey wings, fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, and the like) served up in Styrofoam containers with your choice of bread (roll, white/wheat, etc) and piping hot and fresh. I can say the FOOD is excellent overall. I'd give the food 4.5/5 stars. I wouldn't hesitate to order anything they serve- ALL of it is good! I do like the condiment counter too so you don't have to get back in line for some cocktail sauce...but I do regret they charge extra for melted butter then only want to give you a tiny cup :( The service? Well there are people all over the counter and it's hard to tell where the line to order begins/ends and they tend to rush you as it seems quite popular during lunchtime as they have similar $4.99 specials as does Today's crab up the street. But I had to dock an extra star for service...and CLEANLINESS.... The seating area looks like it has NEVER been cleaned- I would be afraid to eat in there! Crab shells on the floor, unwiped tables, LOTS of bugs flying about (no roaches, just from the door being open) etc- I saw plenty of staff in the back cooking and one person taking out trash, but in the good hour I was there (waiting 15 minutes just to get my order taken then 40 minutes(!!) to steam up 2 dozen crabs) I did not once see anyone come clean the tables or sweep the floor- even with a bottle of unidentified cleaner and a rag, I mean come on!!! So Mid-Atlantic- your food is EXCELLENT and you would have gotten 5 stars had you made it easier to order and kept the place clean- it looks more like a Southeast DC carryout than a nice restaurant (it CAN be, there is potential, they just need to CLEAN in there!!!) read more
