Microcenter seems to have a good to great selection. What I do not like about shopping here is that you seem to get no attention until you're headed for the register. At which time someone suddenly walks up and wants to put that sticker on your item. Me and my fiance were in the store for 20 minutes looking at an item with not so much as a hello. As we decide and start to walk to the checkout an employee walks up, asks us what we have and says "oh those are great, let me do this for ya" and proceeds to put a sticker on the box, which I'm sure gets him some kind of credit for the sale even though he did nothing to help. Well, I have no choice but to give it 4 stars. It is pretty big and has a lot of gear. Great selection for PC and Mac. Unfortunately, you are probably going to have to find it yourself as the help in the store is spotty at best. If you are lucky, you can get someone to do a floor check over the phone, however, I have found them to be inaccurate at times, so if you REALLY need something, you probably should go into the store. Compared to the Marietta store, it is well stocked, generally the sales folks will leave you alone and it is a great place to browse and keep current on the latest tech in stores. Fry's does have more gear in some areas, and less in others. read more

I went in to buy some memory for a my older haswell pc. This location was nice enough to match a marked price, on a package that did not match the higher price of all the parts that were the same as it. It was more than they had to, or should of done. It really made my night, and my drive to get there. Looking back on it, I feel bad, and I wish I would have paid full price. The level of customer service I received was stellar, and they deserved better. They were also extremely helpful to a person who was there buying a motherboard cpu setup. I appreciated the detail they went into helping him out and was impressed. I overheard a large portion of the conversation, and it mirrored my first time building a computer as an adult. I also got advice from a microcenter like 8 years ago. I am pleased to see that employee quality has remained consistent. You should definitely give these guys a shot, and support your b/m stores. With internet shopping becoming so popular, the level of help you get at these stores is dropping. Supporting a store that still is willing to help people with advice is great. read more

I'll admit during recent years my experience here has been lackluster at best. Mainly due to the fact that sales associates completely choose who they wanted to help while ignoring others. However my most recent visits have been the opposite. I don't know what happened, but now the staff is very helpful in helping me find what I need. My most recent visit was last night while I was searching for a USB Bluetooth dongle and a USB PCI-e card. I searched the store for about ten minutes until a sale associate saw me looking around, he immediately asked if I needed help and he quickly found what I was looking for. On top of that the staff up front was patient with me while I searched a competitor's prices on my tablet for the items I was going to buy and they matched the lower price without question. The cashier was very friendly and even informed me of a rebate for the USB dongle. I left the store happy and was glad I was able to get the help I needed. Keep it up guys!! read more

I've had a PC(personal computer) since the internet was invented, yea call me a geek-brat or whatever, dial-up and floppy disks helped shape the world. Anyway, so I know computers. I build them and fix them for friends when asked, I however am not a genius with a tech degree. With THAT said, I know if I need a certain part for my computer or even a whole new one, MICROCENTER is the place to get it. They have roughly the same price as Newegg and TigerDirect, except its an actual store to physically go to, though they DO ship items now. I'm not exactly rich so I'm always buying on a budget, and Microcenter offers just about everything I need at the price I want. Last X-mas I bought a gaming keyboard and mouse for $6.00 each and they still work great. There have only been one or 2 times I couldn't find EXACTLY what I needed there. As another reviewer mentioned, it is good to go on the website and do some research before you go so you at least have an idea of what you are looking for. Less than an hour after buying a computer and graphics card, they were both marked as sold on the website, thus the website inventory for the stores stays up to date! Unless they are swamped, an associate will normally ask if you need help in the first few minutes of wandering around aimlessly. Every interaction I've had with their employees (even the times I'm fairly sure I know more about what I'm asking about than they do), they make sure they know how to find an answer or someone who will. I don't even know where to start. I don't normally write reviews or anything like that but i felt this was the only way to let people know what they are missing! I went into Micro Center after a horrible experience at best buy. The sales rep was not helpful at all and after seeing the prices at Micro Center I was baffled. My Wife needed a new iMac because our old one died after 9 years. And the best buy staff couldn't even answer my questions and when i finally decided on one they didn't even have it. I walked into Micro Center and it was a different atmosphere. People wearing shirts and ties. I swear I heard the staff ask at least 10 different people if they needed help before I even made it to the computer department. When I made it back there I was greeted instantaneously by a group of gentlemen. They youngest looking one out of all them stepped up first and shook my hand. If I remember correctly his name was Derek. He looked at me with a surprised face when I showed him that best buy had what I wanted for $300 more. And I mean his gentleman was like a knowledge GUN. I mean it seemed like he knew the answer to my questions before I even finished asking them. I had never seen anyone have this much energy at a retail store. The Best Buy staff seemed like they hated their job and this kid seemed like he was in wonderland. Needless to say he got me everything I needed. I even bought a Nintendo switch for my son! Afterwards he even introduced me to his manager who thanked me for shopping there. I felt so welcomed I even opened up a credit card at this store and canceled my best buy card. I will be back soon. Every time I come in here they always stare at me as if I was a shoplifter or at least they make me feel extremely uncomfortable by looking at what I'm carrying, following me around, and or aggressively telling me if everything is alright. I'm not sure if they're profiling me for being Hispanic or what, but I've been a customer since they've opened this store and have never felt so unwanted in that store as I did today while buying a laptop. I have purchased 3 laptops and a desk top from Micro Center in Duluth and thought the were wonderful until some issues came about from one of the laptops. I brought it in, still under warranty, and I was told we would hear back from a technician in 3-4 days. They were going to do diagnostics and then would send it off to the manufacturer and at that point I would get a new laptop. This was on March 16th. I didn't hear from anyone until March 25th. I tried calling before then for an update but all the number I found for the store were either not in service or rang until the phone disconnected. Even the national number rang for a bit and then disconnected me. The text message explained that due to a high volume of repairs the diagnosing of my laptop has been delayed. I responded to the text asking for an update and am waiting for a technician. Tomorrow marks 2 weeks with no laptop. I would give this micro center 1 star but the products, prices, and in person service are top tier. I just want what I paid for with the warrant, a new laptop. read more

Workers are delightfully helpful and each greets you if you need help. When I went in to buy a laptop, they asked exactly what I wanted, whether it be brand or price range. The worker in particular was very nice and I found it easy to speak to them without feeling strange or shy in anyway. Ever since this experience, I've gone here as my main tech shop. read more

The Duluth store, customer service, selection of products is actually a four star. However the technicians in the service department barely rate a one. Purchased a new laptop (old one suddenly stopped while I was using it and wouldn't reboot up) so I took my old laptop in to see if they'd transfer data from my old drive. Had both my new and old laptops for 24 hrs and claimed they couldn't do it. Took both home, set up my new laptop and hooked up my old drive through a USB adapter. I was able to recover and transfer virtually all the data off my old drive in 2 hours (and I am no where near a 'professional'. At least there was no charge for this no service but I wouldn't look for these guys to repair anything! read more

I had the worst customer service from this store. Their manager, Wayne is pathetic. I have an iPad2 that I bought approx 60 days ago with the stores much touted warranty program. It is a scam at best. I have no working iPad and they do not replace the unit as their paperwork clearly says in bold. I turned in my unit on the 18th of last month and was told I would hear from the technicians on the 20th. After nothing, I tried calling on the 22nd. 30 minutes of on hold music with no answer. They call me now and want to give me a gift card that will not cover the costs to replace the unit and warranty. Their manager, Wayne told the poor guy at the desk he was too busy. Bought a laptop for school a little over a year ago and the bottom corner of the screen just started to fall apart for no reason. I haven't used it for anything extreme and was just typing up a review. Took it in to see what could be done, as I spent a lot of money and it has not been that long. The computer works and it is just the side corner splitting. They told me the warranty was expired and they couldn't help, but to check out the repair center. I went to the repair center and even with the computer working, they wanted almost $300. I explained I was finishing finals and moving, so I would come back after the move to have it fixed. After I came back a week later, the price almosted doubled to $450?!!! Why and what the hell?!! How does the price increase that much in a week?!! Customer service is lacking and obsurd. They told me to call Acer and did not mention that I can not get a hold of anyone if my warranty just expired. I called micro center customer service and they said they would email the repair center manager to get a hold of me....that was 5 days ago and still no contact or help. Don't waste your money or time. Will not ever be back or send others there for such poor products and customer service. read more

I bought a refurbished HP laptop from Micro Center three weeks ago, and it was perfect but after a while I started having problems with the space bar not being responsive all the time. I brought in the first laptop and they exchanged it with the same model for free, and the sales rep, Marcus, was very helpful and opened up the box so I could make sure the new space bar worked right. When I got home I realized not everything synced over right to the new computer, so I took it back to tech support and Hakim was extremely helpful in helping me solve the problem and get everything set up the way it should be. The customer service overall is SUCK!!! the guy who worked with us is super racist and discriminate due to my parent doesn't speak fluently English at the first place, the only point here is my parent let me talk to him on the phone and I explain to him there certain item still note 2 in stock WHICH JUST SAYING THEY HAVE IT THERE, so this guy turn around and tell me I saw on the wrong location website and then try to explain again it somebody order online and came to store pick up so the system not clear out yet, well when you first say this and turn around and say that which just mean you don't give a damn about your jobs, if you doesn't want to work then why you still there ? and the rudest part is you were in the middle of the conversation with the customer then turn around and walk away to avoid the whole situation ? what type of customer service you have there? if you doesn't want to help just ask someone else to help. Micro Center is one of the best places to go for your technological needs. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, and the employees maintain a good balance between marketing extra items and being realistic with their customers. Do not get me wrong, the place definitely has one or two things which I feel could be improved, but in terms of prices, organization, and customer service, Micro Center is one of the best electronics stores out there. I have only been there mainly 2 times, and never did I leave unsatisfied with the store and its employees. The first time I went there was for a gaming monitor for my PS4. As soon as I stepped foot into the monitor and TV department, I was immediately greeted by a middle aged Indian guy who began helping me find a monitor that was good for me. Unforgettably, one of the first things he asked me before anything was what my budget was. Once I told him my budget, he began showing me everything in my price range. He then asked me specifically what I would be using the monitor for and helped me narrow down my search based on what specs I was looking for. He then showed me 2 monitors that had exactly what I was looking for, and he did not even have a problem recommending the one that was cheaper because it was more specific to my needs. I immediately became comfortable with the place because I knew that the employees actually had an idea of what they were talking about and cared about helping their customers. I knew I would definitely be back a month later to build a custom PC instead of going elsewhere. My second experience at Micro Center was when I went to build a custom PC during Summer break. I was pretty ignorant about how to build a custom PC at the time and walked in with a rather confused look on my face. I met a dude working in the PC department, and he was more than willing to walk me through the process and help me with everything. Despite all of my stupid questions and dumb remarks, he continued to be patient with me, and he treated me like I was his close friend. I had somewhat of an idea of some of the parts I needed. However, with some of my choices, he actually recommended products that were cheaper and even better than the ones I had picked out to fit my budget. What caught my interest was his expertise in building custom PCs. On more than one occasion, he suggested swapping out one part for another because the latter would run better with the rest of the components in my PC. He down sold me a few times on parts, telling me that a part that I had was "overkill," and that a cheaper one would work just fine with my setup. Whenever he would recommend an extra piece from his own side, he would always make sure to state that it was not really an important piece to have but rather a cool add-on. His honesty persuaded me to buy a few items, because I felt like I was actually purchasing a cosmetic on my own will rather than being forced to buy it. He also made sure to focus on what was important. He helped me grab all the essential components, and only asked me if I wanted extra or cosmetic items after we were done with the essentials. His honesty, courtesy, expertise, and cooperativeness left me with a huge smile on my face. As I mentioned above, Micro Center isn't 100% perfect, and a few things could definitely change. The main change I would like to see is a small alteration in design, and that is the addition of more color and vibrancy into the store's design. When you walk into the store, majority of everything is basically white or off-white. This gives the store kind of a dull feeling no matter how cool the store itself actually is. This would be the only reason that I'm giving this store 4 stars instead of 5 because if I did not go in with a specific purpose and just strolled in for the first time to see how the store looked, I probably would have left. Thank God my first trip there was to buy a monitor which got me to meet and interact with the employees, otherwise the store itself is not very aesthetically appealing. My suggestion would be to add a subtle, yet eye-catching combination of colors throughout the store. What would really top it all off was if each section department had its own unique, colorful catch to it. We all know that color has a huge impact on brain activity, and I think adding more color and artistic design into the store would definitely help the business grow even more. In conclusion, if you really want to go to a technology store where the prices are great, and the employees actually care about the customers, look no further than Micro Center. It has some of the best prices in town, and the employees are always willing to look for and help customers with whatever they might need. Do not be fooled by the dullness of the store's design. Once you actually explore inside, you will be happy you chose to shop at Micro Center over other stores. read more

This store is Fab!!! I will start out by saying, I am not a "Techy" type or are "gadget" person. Times, however are changing, and a girl has got to keep up. So first on my list, a new computer. Didn't know what exactly I wanted but knew I had a budget. I did the Best Buy thing, (hated it!) the C. City thing, (o k experience) and the Fryes thing(soooo confusing). I was referred to Micro Center by a friend (had never heard of it) but this was the best move Ever!! The store is not Fancy, no fancy blue or red shirts. No security guy to greet you. Not too big and maybe a little dusty. The service however is over the top. The staff isn't pushy, but they are helpful and they know their stuff. good place to buy computer components & accessories I have been coming to this store for a long time

I've been buying from MicroCenter in Gwinnett for as long as they have been open. I watched as the location changed over from a mega-drugstore to Micro Center and a furniture store. I've bought numerous computers, network gear, cables, etc. The staff has been helpful, but I'm in the computer business, so I already know what I want for the most part. The most interactive experience I had was when I decided to build my own. Now, I know stuff about computers, but I don't generally track motherboard types and such. I allowed the tech to guide me through. I came home and put the system together and I was not missing any components. Since I don't do this myself, I probably would have forgotten some cable or other and would have had to go back to the store. DIY projects tend to go that way. It was a fun evening putting the system together. It turned out I went too cheap on the power supply. It was not doing the trick and the reviews online were bad. They took it back, no problem. I got a more reliable/higher watt unit and it's been fine since. How to get the best from this store: Do your homework before you go. It's really hard to help the clueless. Have SOME idea what your need is before you go. I always go to the website and pick out what I want and then go there to get it. I may have a question about a spec that was hard to find online, but not much more. I bought a MacBook here a while back. You can get Apple products that are refurb or last-year's model for a few hundred less than list. They will still have full warranty and you can get MC's extended warranty that covers more than Apple Care. I got an HP laptop for my wife here with MC extended warranty. It had a BIOS problem that stopped the boot every time saying something about a fan not working. I took it back within 3 months of purchase and got a direct replacement. They even let me swap the HD so I didn't have to re-customize the new one. I got no resistance. BTW, the replacement complains about the same thing. I told my wife to hit the space bar and go on. That was 18 months ago; it's still fine. Yes, I am pretty self-sufficient when it comes to computer repair and diagnostics (been in the computer business for 20+ years.) so I'm not expecting much from the staff other than be polite, help me find what I'm looking for, and know how to find answers to my questions. This store is terrible!! They closed 20 minutes early and would not even answer the telephone during business hours. We gave a friend a gift to commemorate an important occasion and the equipment was faulty. I tried to call to speak to customer service (of which there was no option, so appropriate as they have no customer service) and got the message that they were closed. It was 8:40 p.m., fully 20 minutes minutes before closing. I called the Marietta store to try to get a back line # for the Duluth store and could not get any dept. to answer., except the Apple Dept.. NEVER EVER SHOPPING AT THIS STORE EVER AGAIN!!!!! Worst customer service and store managers that I've ever experienced in a retail store. I've been inside Micro Center @ Duluth several times simply because they have computer and electronic accessories that most retail stores do not. However the managers of the store don't have any clue as to what their duties and rolls are. Every time I've been into the Duluth store there are only 1 to 2 cashiers running a register while other able-body employees are walking around aimlessly not assisting anyone else. Then you have the "pit bosses" aka store managers who are huddled up behind the customer service area discussing who knows what and not giving any regard to the growing line of customers waiting to check out and get on with their day. During my last, and I do mean my very last time I will ever be present in this store, I had a simple return and the desire to purchase a photo scanner as a mother's day present. With only 2 customers in front of me how long could this possibly take?...5 minutes, 10 minutes?....surely not 45 minutes?!?.....Over 45 minutes passed while I waited for the two customers in front of me to be taken care of; the last return/exchange being for a $4 pair of earphones (only because I could overhear the conversation at the counter.) All of this while I see 4 individual 'managers' walking around doing nothing. I stopped one of the managers while he was strolling around the floor if there was any chance that one of the could open an extra register to assist the ever growing line in customer service and the standard checkout registers. By the blank look on his face you'd thought I'd asked him to change the color of the sky from blue to orange.....just lost. My husband who was now also standing in the regular checkout line with my photo scanner stopped another manager; he too was aimlessly strolling around the floor. When asked if they could open another register to help ease the congested lines he was told that there wasn't anyone else who could help. .....so managers don't know how to operate their own stores, their own registers nor how to manage their employees?? As I finished up my return at the customer service desk, I looked back to see that my husband still had 5 people in front of him; all with more than 2 or 3 items. I made no secret of my disgust with the store at that time and told my husband to put the scanner down and leave the store...I was DONE! My husband insisted that we get the scanner and go on our way. I wanted no part of the store from that point on and immediately told the 'pit bosses' on my way out the door that I'd never be back and this was the very last dollar our family would spend with their company. The 'pit bosses' evidently tried to apologize to my husband but with little remorse. So unless you have the patience of a saint or the IQ of a peanut I strongly recommend staying far and clear from this store. You'll be much better off visiting other local stores with far better customer service and a group that knows how to get their customers in and out of their store in a reasonable amount of time. I appreciate this place very much as a IT person when I go into some of the larger tech stores the staff more often than not is not knowledgeable . Not the case at this store & location, they are very knowledgeable and polite I have bought several items from them the warranty is affordable especially handy when you are trying a new brand you haven't tried before. A while back I needed an external hard drive and my girlfriend said he saw one in the Fry's ad that after rebate would have been right about what I wanted to pay. Well alright, we live less than 2 miles away so off we went, ad in hand. We've shopped there before and knew right where to go. I flipped the ad around and asked the young man at the desk where I could find the one I wanted. "We don't have any left." Period, end of sentence, end of discussion. No offer of a rain check no clue when they might get them in. AND oh by the way, the rebate is only good for two more days so even if you get one someday in the future, you wont get the rebate. But the part that aggravated me was that the ad came out the same day we went. This was reminiscent of previous visits to this store and I remembered why I quit shopping there. We ended up paying a net $10 more for the same product at another store. They had a whole shelf full and the salesman knew right where they were. I will probably shop at Frys again, but Im not going to worry about getting anything out of their ad. If it is on sale, Ill go elsewhere. read more
