We are neighbors with Michelles shop and have gotten to know her employees over the years. Lindsey, one of her employees, does cake tastings in our "commons area" and sits at one of our wine tables. I'm sad to say that my experience with the gender reveal cake I ordered was very disappointing. While the staff was kind and friendly, the quality of the cake didn't match the price point. I had specifically asked for some cute bow decorations, which were unfortunately left off. However, the biggest issue was the cake itself. I followed their instructions on how long to let it sit out, but even after doing so, it was hard and nearly inedible. By the next day, it was even worse. My husband said the cake was the most dry cake he has ever bit into, and he loves cake, you could call him a cake connoisseur. Honestly, we had custom cakes and cupcakes from Safeway for my husband's birthday, and they were so much better: moist, fresh, and flavorful, and a third of the price. What a cute little shop! There isn't a place to sit and enjoy your treat but that is ok since I was taking mine home as a surprise. The worker was very nice and was able to explain how the gluten free, vegan, and keto cupcakes were different and what ingredients were used to make them so. Very informative. I also overheard a customer conversation about a vegan cake and the owner was VERY thought and made sure it wasn't vegan due to allergies. I thought this was great since you wouldn't want cross contamination. I got 4 cupcakes- 1 keto, 1 vegan, and 2 regular and made my husband taste test. He couldn't tell which ones were not normal! They were some of the best diet related desserts I have had in a long time. I also got a cheese cake because my husband is SO picky on them. He said other than having the peppermint topping (not the best combo) it was the best most authentic traditional cheese cake he has had in oregon. The one thing that I hope they will fix was there were no signs saying what each item was. I felt like I was a bother asking what each was while people behind me were waiting. It's a no from me. I ordered a cake and cupcakes. I wish I had gotten photos of the inside of the cake: such a tiny bit of filling it was sad! And the writing was printed on edible paper, with the colors not even matching the frosting. The cupcakes were a little small and the wrappers looked unappealing. I'm sad about it because I had really high hopes since the customer service was good and it wasn't a cheap cake! But it was cheaply made. There are so many good bakeries in Salem I don't know why they won't step up their game after all the reviews from years ago saying the same thing. That's a red flag :( read more

We ordered a wedding cake and it looked like we ordered it from Fred Meyers. It wasn't even decorated, we had to provide our own flowers for the cake. We ordered her signature lavender lemon cake and nobody liked it. The lemon overpowered the lavender, which was very disappointing. We had ordered two additional cakes from the Kondetorei which cost a fraction of the price and were devoured by our guests. Really great tasting desserts! Everyone enjoyed the cake especially on Thanksgiving. It was a hit! It was decorated so cute in a fall theme. Very moist and the buttercream frosting is my favorite. You're better off spending your money elsewhere. I called in an order for my daughters first birthday - It was last minute and she was able to fit me in which I felt was really, really nice. I believe Michelle herself took my order and I was due to pick up my cake the following Sunday. When I came to pick up my cupcake cake it was nothing like what I had ordered. I had specifically requested ombre pink and blue frosting and I had plain blue just like my inspiration photo I got exactly what I wanted from the photo, however, when I asked to make some minor changes, she said she was OK with making them, but none of these changes were apparent on my order. I ordered Strawberry cakes and I got 6 red velvet, 12 vanilla and 6 chocolate no strawberry at all! I felt like informing her about the mixup... and this is where it all went sour! I messaged her business page and had told her about my issues she was initially very apologetic at and offered me a $20 store credit in exchange for my inconvenience. Or $50 off a future order. This being my first order, I really didn't feel like trusting her again with another order when this one did not turn out. I opted to message her and asked her for a partial refund. I'm not kidding you she literally sent me $15 back as a partial refund on a cake order that was $100!!! - what a joke! Her attitude when I asked her for that was incredulous and absolutely the worst I would've ever expected out of a baker or business owner for that matter. Their cake decor, I loved. I had ordered 3 tier cake for my daughter's 18th bday and it was nice that we were able to have also 3 different flavor. I bought 2 banana macarons from the case that day and when I ate them in the car they were stale, hard and tasted freezer burnt, like what the inside of the dirty display fridge smells like. I have celiac disease, and though it's not a certified facility, in the beginning of my diagnosis (a few years ago) I had no issues eating here. I went in yesterday and asked if a cupcake was gluten free or just keto and the lady told me "gluten free and keto are the same thing" and speaking from someone with celiac disease KETO DOES NOT MEAN GLUTEN FREE. We ordered a gluten free vegan cake from Michelle Ashley, and it was the worst dessert I've ever had. Especially the vegan frosting. When we called the bakery to ask if it was a fluke (I've eaten lots and lots of amazing vegan desserts), I spoke to Michelle about it. She said she thinks their vegan frosting is terrible, and she wouldn't eat it - but that she's had a few people call in to say it was great. I was shocked to hear that such a popular baker would be serving food that she thinks is terrible, and charging $85 for it. She said they primarily use vegan shortening. We were browsing around and ordered a few items based on the staff recommendations. We waited anxiously to get home and try our treats. We were extremely disappointed in the quality and taste and ended up throwing some of it out. The frosting was kind of grainy and the desserts lacked distinguishable flavor (except the rose macaron that tasted like pure soap). Just was generally disappointed in the desserts and it truly felt like a waste of time and money. Spent over $20 here on a few items and wish we would have gone somewhere else. I'll admit, I've been sad for the past couple of weeks (no actual explanation, just a college student being emotional). While out on a mid-day drive with no intention of going anywhere, I noticed the pink sign which I was immediately drawn to. I quickly pulled in and it was like heaven on earth.
