Thank you Michelle and your team for taking my vision and creating the perfect cake for this event. My experience with your bakery was top notch. My cake was a hit and was one of the first to be auctioned off! The Mid Valley Awards Banquet along with the Mid Valley Association Community Foundation raised 19,000! I am so appreciative! Big hug! I have ordered from Michelle Ashley's many times. The cakes are always phenomenal in taste and design, as well as affordable! I love to drop in and see their daily menu since it's always changing, offering new delicious desserts every day. If you stop by and they have the peanut butter cheesecake available, GET IT!!! It is the best dessert I've ever had in my life. When ordering custom cake, I highly recommend asking for their creativity to design it versus using a reference picture, because their minds are so brilliant and always have the best ideas! Needless to say, we will be back and have even already ordered our next custom cake for a future birthday.

What a cute little shop! There isn't a place to sit and enjoy your treat but that is ok since I was taking mine home as a surprise. The worker was very nice and was able to explain how the gluten free, vegan, and keto cupcakes were different and what ingredients were used to make them so. Very informative. I also overheard a customer conversation about a vegan cake and the owner was VERY thought and made sure it wasn't vegan due to allergies. I thought this was great since you wouldn't want cross contamination. I got 4 cupcakes- 1 keto, 1 vegan, and 2 regular and made my husband taste test. He couldn't tell which ones were not normal! They were some of the best diet related desserts I have had in a long time. I also got a cheese cake because my husband is SO picky on them. He said other than having the peppermint topping (not the best combo) it was the best most authentic traditional cheese cake he has had in oregon. The one thing that I hope they will fix was there were no signs saying what each item was. I felt like I was a bother asking what each was while people behind me were waiting. Maybe little chalk board signs that can be changed daily.

I can't tell you how many times I've been here... YUM! They made a cupcake bouquet for my school dessert auction. I took all my nieces and nephews on one the BOGO cupcake days. They were all in heaven. We also had her provide cupcakes for my 40th. It was beautiful!!!!! The generous and servant heart of the owner pours into the community and her staff. And they have the cutest pink umbrella in front of the shop.

We ordered a wedding cake and it looked like we ordered it from Fred Meyers. It wasn't even decorated, we had to provide our own flowers for the cake. We ordered her signature lavender lemon cake and nobody liked it. The lemon overpowered the lavender, which was very disappointing. We had ordered two additional cakes from the Kondetorei which cost a fraction of the price and were devoured by our guests. It was so disappointing to hear our guests didn't like our main cake, especially with how much we paid for it.

Really great tasting desserts! Everyone enjoyed the cake especially on Thanksgiving. It was a hit! It was decorated so cute in a fall theme. Very moist and the buttercream frosting is my favorite. Very rich if you like that. You do pay for what you get, so it doesn't come cheap. But, in my mind it was well worth it for the time and ingredients going into these beautiful desserts!

They did our gender reveal cake and did such a great job! From the first inquiry to pickup, the staff was very responsive and friendly. Their prices are affordable and they were very flexible with our timeline. The cake itself was gorgeous and delicious. We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a custom cake and we will definitely be back. :)

I'm very satisfied with my experience at this business. The price, quality and experience was worth every penny. This is the cutest cake I've ever seen and it tastes great, too. It's not what I imagined but that's a good thing, and I'm very happy to have trusted these professionals to do what they do best. The shop is clean and well taken care of, and the workers there seem to love what they do. I'm very happy to have decided to support this small local business, especially considering everything the government has done these past few years to small businesses and working people. I honestly can't remember the last time I had a cake that tasted this good. I forgot that enjoying treats like this could be satisfying (and not just a waxy-synthetic sugar injection). Well done!

The cake I got was exactly like the photo I sent- no customization done.

You're better off spending your money elsewhere. I called in an order for my daughters first birthday - It was last minute and she was able to fit me in which I felt was really, really nice. I believe Michelle herself took my order and I was due to pick up my cake the following Sunday. When I came to pick up my cupcake cake it was nothing like what I had ordered. I had specifically requested ombre pink and blue frosting and I had plain blue just like my inspiration photo I got exactly what I wanted from the photo, however, when I asked to make some minor changes, she said she was OK with making them, but none of these changes were apparent on my order. I ordered Strawberry cakes and I got 6 red velvet, 12 vanilla and 6 chocolate no strawberry at all! I felt like informing her about the mixup... and this is where it all went sour! I messaged her business page and had told her about my issues she was initially very apologetic at and offered me a $20 store credit in exchange for my inconvenience. Or $50 off a future order. This being my first order, I really didn't feel like trusting her again with another order when this one did not turn out. I opted to message her and asked her for a partial refund. I'm not kidding you she literally sent me $15 back as a partial refund on a cake order that was $100!!! - what a joke! Her attitude when I asked her for that was incredulous and absolutely the worst I would've ever expected out of a baker or business owner for that matter. I would just spend your money at another bakery that will actually get your order correct and when they don't they will give you twice the respect that Michelle Ashley would!

The staff was prompt in responses and provided a full menu I could pre order from (though my order was small enough that it wasn't required). I ended up picking up my cupcakes a few hours early and to my surprise they were ready! The cupcakes themselves were wonderful. Not these huge cupcakes that you see other speciality cupcake bakeries creating. These were classic size with wonderful flavors, some even completely reimagined. When I arrived for pick up I saw they had a new, special flavor- S'mores. I had to grab one of those too and I'm glad I did as it was the best cupcake of the assortment which a nice marshmallow surprise in the middle of the cupcake! Oh man, definitely worth the drive and worth the costs. I'd highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area. TLDR: The cookies are Fantastic!…read more Stopped in here after brunch at a nearby spot. I have heard via the internet that Sewell Sweets has the best chocolate chip cookies in Salem. Since the internet never lies, I had to verify for myself. I wasn't disappointed! Are they the best? I'll have to continue my research to say definitively. The cookies are fantastic! I will definitely be recommending Sewell when the discussion of cookies comes up, which it frequently does during conversations with me. Service was quick and helpful when we asked about a cookie that we didn't understand. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about but all I wanted was a cookie so no problems there. If you are looking for quality cookies or anything else to satisfy your sweet tooth, look no further. Well, stop here, enjoy your treat and continue your research, but you'll be back to Sewell Sweets.

My fiancé and I were looking for a bakery to make our wedding cake. We approached Sewell Sweets…read morewith excitement -- submitted an inquiry, made follow-up calls, sent emails, and confirmed directly with the owner before visiting. What followed was pure frustration. When we arrived, the employee had no idea about the cake box listed on the website and offered to call the owner when we raised the pricing discrepancy. While helping us, she was also audibly complaining about another customer, saying she "couldn't even wait 45 seconds." We ended up paying more than the advertised price and were only told after the fact that in-store pricing differs. All four cakes went in the trash. They were dry, stale, and one tasted so off that we couldn't take more than one bite. $48 for product that was completely inedible. When we called to report it, the employee showed no empathy, made no apology, and had a noticeable attitude. When the owner called back, I was calm and polite. I was hoping for basic acknowledgment, given we had planned to spend significantly more on a wedding cake there. Instead, he led with camera footage, misrepresented what I had said, declined my offer to return the cakes, and ended the call with nothing but silence and "I'll take it into consideration." Maybe it was an off day. These things happen, even at great businesses. But a great business apologizes, asks questions, and tries to make it right. None of that happened here. What makes this experience stand out isn't just one bad interaction -- it's the pattern. Unanswered emails. Misinformed staff. Inedible products. Dismissive phone calls. And then a same-day public response crafted to discredit rather than reflect. Do yourself a favor and find a bakery that actually values your business, your event, and basic human decency. Sewell Sweets is not it. --------------- UPDATE: The owner has replied to this review on Google, and while I have no interest in a public argument, several claims in that response are inaccurate and anyone reading deserves the full picture. We were not attempting a random walk-in tasting. An inquiry was submitted early-to-mid March, a follow-up call was made on March 18th, a follow-up email sent the same day, and we spoke to the owner on March 19th -- during which he confirmed he had seen our emails, that our date was available, and that he would be in touch. I told him we would be coming in the next day, exactly as his employee had instructed. We followed every step we were given. The owner did not apologize multiple times. He opened by citing camera footage -- for a quality complaint -- then told me I had claimed a cake was dropped on the floor, which I never said. I described the taste as "off" like he said, which is not an insult by any reasonable standard. There was a lot of silence and he just said "I'll take it into consideration." Twice. That was it. At no point during any of our interactions did we raise our voices, argue, or say anything disrespectful. We were nothing but polite. Also worth noting -- just because someone else didn't complain, doesn't mean our experience didn't happen. For someone who described an extremely busy service day, not a single positive review appears to have been posted that day, which goes to show not everyone shares their experience. In fact, this is only the 2nd negative review I have posted in my entire life and the only one that is food related. The owner claims he looked "carefully" into our experience -- yet by his own account, in just 25 minutes he managed to receive word from his employee about my call, conduct an internal review of the situation, review emails, confirm proper handling and quality of preparation, speak with three separate staff members about our interactions, and check camera footage -- and still had time to call me back. That is quite a thorough investigation for 25 minutes. Finally, it says a lot that a lengthy response was written the same day to dispute a customer's experience, yet an email sent over a week prior was never acknowledged and a call from days before went unreturned. ------

I was curious about the name of the place, so I looked up its history online. I learned that the bakery was founded by Gerry Frank and Barney Rogers, and that Konditorei (pronounced kone-de-tore-eye) is German for cake or pastry shop. The Konditorei first opened in 1982, originally offering gourmet cakes along with a small food menu. Over the years, the business has grown significantly. In addition to their cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, tortes, and pastries, they now offer a lunch menu from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This includes a quiche of the day, soup of the day, meat lasagna, as well as salads and sandwiches. While the location is now owned by others, it's clear they continue to carry on the tradition and spirit of the original bakery. All of the sweet items are displayed in large cases where you can browse and select exactly what you want. When we arrived, it wasn't very busy. A few tables were occupied, but we were able to walk right up to the counter to view the selection and place our order. We chose a variety of desserts, and everything was packaged neatly for us to take home. Later in the day, when we enjoyed our desserts together, we were all very impressed. It was a great way to celebrate a birthday, and the quality of the desserts definitely lived up to the reputation.
