First time going to a Michael's in six years. Halloween items were listed at clearance for 60 %. The items were still expensive to me at a discounted price. Thanksgiving items were listed at clearance at 40% off despite there were still three weeks until Thanksgiving. A lot of items didn't have prices on them or listed by them yet the staff was there to scan for prices. I was able to scan my 40% off coupon to use on a regular item. Lots of savings and sales on new Christmas items like stickers and cards. You can access coupons on the Michael's website to scan at checkout register. My favorite find was an all black journal book & pages as well as Christmas holographic silver frames on blank cards to decorate & personalize. They were 40% off on sale or with a coupon. I plan to stamp hieroglyphics in the cards. It was the first time I used a self service register at Michael's - very easy to use. I plan to visit again when prices are lowered more for clearance. read more

Today, my wife and I are looking for a certain type of nylon rope, but were unable to find the size she needs. My wife plans to remake a bracelet for her friend. We asked someone for help, but unfortunately Kyla couldn't help us. This store wasn't very busy when we arrived, but it looked well organized from what I saw. I asked a young female how much an item was and she responded'I have no clue' whilst blasting her rap music on her phone over the store music which made my head hurt...then I asked another tall Indian guy what color the cans of paint were as they were all white with just names on, he said 'no idea'....i then spoke to guy at front with glasses and said I need help with craft questions and I'm in a craft store...and no one seems to know..then a girl rudely walks up stands by me and says 'I just need to know where the tape is'!!! Went into Michael's in Springfield to find some cute ideas for my daughter and her friends for prom on the 26th. I was just walking around the store looking at stuff trying to decide what to do, I'm not the most crafty but I try. Then I noticed that somebody was following me around just kind of playing with stuff and doing things that were not work I guess maybe he was security or something I don't know I thought it was kind of rude they didn't ask me if I needed help but they have somebody start following me cuz I'm looking around their store I was only in there for like 5 to 8 minutes we can't candles t-shirts you know water bottles and they're all at different parts of the store I thought it was the rudest thing to not ask me if I needed help to assume that I might steal. I've never had this happen at the Alexandria store they're always so nice so wonderful I will never come back to the Springfield store ever again and I advise if you come don't wander around too long cuz you know they might think you're stealing too. Maybe if they had asked me if they could help me I would have told him what I was doing there but instead they just judged. There has never been a tiMe that I've gone into michales and come out upset. I am in total shock of the management this michaels has now. The manager walked right past me after I tried to get her attention 3 times. I continue her to ask for assistance and she just turned her head and walked away. I approached her asking if I could ask a question and without even looking at me, she says "yeah" then I ask the question , still without even looking at me once she responses, "NO" and continued to scan her item. It's big. A bit disheveled. You can often find coupons for 20-50% off a regularly priced item in the circulars or online (use your smartphone). But I had a recent encounter with the manager on duty, and she wasn't very accommodating. My little sister had purchased two small items and accidentally dropped them at the register when trying to put them into her bag. We got home and couldn't find them (but we did have the receipt), so we called the store. The employee who picked up said that if we brought the receipt to the store, they would replace the items for us, as per store policy. When we got to the store, we talked to the cashier who checked my little sister out and the employee who spoke to her on the phone. Neither had noticed the items or picked them up from the ground, but the latter employee started going through baskets of items at the front of the store. Presumably, these were all things that were going to be restocked (returned items, items customers forgot, ???). The manager on duty was called in, and she looked at my little sister skeptically. The manager claimed not to have seen or picked up the two items my little sister described, but then the employee looking through the baskets found one of the items. At this point, the manager claimed that, oh yes, she did actually find two items on the ground a couple of hours earlier, right next to the cash register we were standing at. The employee was having trouble finding the other item in the baskets, so my little sister asked if she could just pick up another similar item from the back. The manager kept trying to change the subject and avoid the issue, while the other employee continued to sift through the baskets. Eventually, she found the item, and the issue was "resolved," no thanks to the manager. Not a great experience, and the manager had some pretty terrible customer service skills. Not planning on coming back, ever. There are other Michael's stores in the neighborhood. read more

Brought in custom artwork to be framed and when we recieved it back, there was a huge crease right down the middle of it. When we asked, they blamed US for bringing in creased art. Seriously??? I really like this Michaels because it has come through for me many times now-whenever I am looking for something specific, like a certain yarn, or a certain decorating tip, other Michaels or craft stores did not have them but this one did! I don't know if it's out of the way for people or less popular but it works to your advantage because it has the hard to find stuff that you need. Overall, it's not the most organized Michaels I've seen. It's a little dim inside and because it's one giant stretch of a store, you can be walking around for a long time before being able to find what you are looking for. Maybe they need a giant directory to tell you where to go. It's good for when you have time and you can just go and walk around the entirety of the store to find what you need....this way, you can browse every nook and cranny to find the best deals, etc. I find that this Michaels carry more random things on sale than others. A downside is I don't typically find associates around to help me.... maybe it's just on the days that I am there... but because it's so huge, you can get lost easily and it would be very helpful to ask an associate for help... but I was there for an hour with no one to bump into. read more

This was already my least-favorite Michael's; I primarily work with pencil (graphite/colored) and with acrylic paint and find their stock the worst in the area. However, I now go out of my way to write a one-star due to a staff encounter recently. To not pinpoint this particular person, I'll be a bit more vague... but, within the past several weeks, I went to get some last-minute supplies before they closed. I was in what was probably their last line of the night; they'd called up all the shoppers to come and make their final purchases. The cashier who was about to take me picked up the phone before starting with my items, as it had been ringing. She answered it professionally, was on briefly, and hung up without saying much. I'm not sure what happened, but clearly something very large that was personal. She stepped away and talked to an assistant or floor manager and was clearly distraught. This manager forced this poor girl to go back to the register and ring us out, even though she was upset. I watch the manager who makes much more of a scene, publically telling this girl to pull herself together and force her back on the register. This manager was not consumed with some other task. She could have easily stepped over to the register and spent the less than one minute to ring me out. I don't care if the cashier found out her pet millipede died and was having a hyperemotional reaction. It was really awkward, but it also came across SO POORLY on the manager's part. Are you in that big of a rush to finish your closing tasks? There was no one else. This could have been discreet and composed and executed with some humane manager-to-employee respect. It comes across as unprofessional and doesn't make me feel good about the treatment of employees at the company. read more

Be very careful of inspecting framing jobs carefully. We paid $95 for a framing job with a simple gold metal frame. When it arrived for the THIRD time framed with visible scratches on the frame, we insisted on our money back and took our picture home. I love this Michaels! I'm the Floral Designer there and thoroughly enjoy my job. We are always trying to improve customer service and fully stock the shelves. We've improved the checkout process with "line busting." Your items are scanned while in line and you are given a card. When you get to the register, the cashier scans the card and all of your items are uploaded. Pay and you're off! So, just because you see several people in line doesn't mean you'll wait a long time. Bows, centerpieces, wreaths, bridal bouquets - whatever your floral needs - I can customize them all for you. Lots of employees go the extra mile to please customers. I got a cross stitching matted and framed here. When they gave me the completed frame back I saw that the design was noticeably crooked. When I asked them if they could fix it they told me that I would need to pay to have it fixed. Further more because I needed it by the end of the week I would have to pay more for it expedited so it would be done in time. Needless to say I won't be having anything framed here again. read more

Decent store with a lot of great crafts and supplies. Most of the staff was helpful in assisting me to find various items, but some of them were surly and curt. I visited recently to find props for my upcoming engagement photoshoot. I'm not naturally an arts and craftsy type person, but I had fun planning out different options for the photoshoot. They have a limited wedding section, but they do have plenty of classic engagement photoshoot prop - letters, chalkboards an chalk, large "LOVE" signs, bubbles, etc. They also have a large number of fake flowers. The organization isn't the best in here and some of the items were ridiculously expensive, but overall it wasn't bad. One thing I found annoying is that they had plenty of different chalkboards, but no chalkboard erasers!! What?? They have a decently large parking lot out front and I didn't have much trouble finding parking when I visited. read more

DO NOT BOOK A BIRTHDAY PARTY HERE! Under a recommendation from a friend in another city, I booked a party here for my child on 6/11 for 7/19. Everything went smoothly. At 2 pm on 7/15 I received a call from a sales person telling me the party would need to be rescheduled because the store was undergoing inventory that day. Obviously I was livid and asked for a manager to call me back. He finally called me at 5 pm and was very unsympathetic and told me his employees were uninformed of the correct inventory dates. So now I'm left with no party location, lots of guests traveling a great distance to attend, and a very unhappy child with less than 3 days to correct the problem myself. I found this manager, John, to be very unprofessional and would obviously not recommend any other parent book a party at this location. Be warned. read more

I think this store is really understocked and unorganized. Every time I go in, there are 2 cashiers and 10+ people in line. And of course the line moves really slow... I can never find anything anywhere in the store and there is no associate on the floor to help customers at all. Much more disorganized than the one on rte 1 and have less things in stock. When I was being rung up at the register I noticed that someone dropped their coach purse. This location is always disorganized and really hard to find items - even when the hard to find staff team you what aisle to look in. I've never not come here and felt like I was only a few minutes post looting of the place. I've walked out of this location probably as often as I've bought something simply because I didn't want to deal with the lines and show check out. Then she separated them into two bags without wrapping any of them! But before I could pay, we had to wait for a two minute phone conversation. I can not sing Sharon's (framing department) praises enough! Not only is she full of ideas, but went above and beyond to help me with a last minute gift for my husband's co-worker! She walked me through ideas, helped me visualize different options, walked back and forth (so many times) to the back area to check different matting options, quickly and efficiently helped me decide colors, and even grabbed a t-shirt to help me visualize the end result, and above all- she took the time to take care of me right then and there for charges and the matting! I usually come here for cake baking/decorating supplies and I never have any problem here. Maybe it's because I don't really have any sort of expectation with this place except that they have what I'm looking for which they usually do except specialty types of baking pans which is understandable. I never have any problem with the staff nor the long line. I recommend that you download their app on to your phone so you will have a coupon available when you check out. Also, I think this is a good alternate to the toy stores when buying gifts for kids. If you don't like standing in line, people, or the world, it's best that you shop online. read more

I've shopped here sparingly for a few years now and I've never had an issue until tonight. I purchased an item last Sunday and it didn't work out for what I needed it so I came back in today to return it. To my surprise the item was NOT on the receipt. They tell me it's not on there and I have the wrong receipt. I explain to them that i did notice that the same item appeared twice but didn't think about it twice because it was under the same item category. Pretty much the employee that attended me when I made the purchase RANG UP THE SAME ITEM TWICE and I didn't even notice. I told her that it's not my job to be a hawk and look at them while they scan it and make sure they're doing their job right. The young employees were very nice , no complain about them they stayed calm as well as myself and they were sweet. They just didn't know how to handle the situation. They told me I could only get partial money back because it wasn't on my receipt. I accepted because hey it's better than nothing! It was only an item of a few dollars but that's not an excuse. It irritates me that I take my hard earned money and shop there and an employee that isn't paying attention rings up the same item twice and when I go back to return it's almost impossible and I still end up losing if they do decided to make the return ! Might as well ring up the items myself. I am very disappointed in this Michaels. Lesson learned : be a hawk and make sure your items get rung up correctly because you can't trust them to do their job correctly. read more

Michael's is my favorite craft store and they always have good deals! (Hint: they usually give you a 40% off one item coupon on every receipt you get so make sure to save them for your future visits!) My favorite things to buy from them are their decorative storage boxes and panting canvases. The designs for their boxes are always different whenever I come back and they are all beautiful and come in different sizes. I use mine to hold on to cards, letters, and gifts that I've received throughout my life as memorabilia of all the people I love and am thankful for in my life. They are light and easy to carry and close with a magnet on the lid, making the box look vintage and antique because of the structure and design. I'm actually out of space in my box now so I'll be coming back for a new one! They also have several packs of different shapes and sizes for canvases, which are nice because you have a variety of things to paint depending on what you want. Although these are the two things I typically buy here, I always without a fault roam through all of the aisles because they have such fun decorations and ideas that give me so much creativity and inspiration. read more

I recently purchased an item online for pick up on the store. As with other stores there's a designated area for items ordered on line for expedited pick up in the store, a nice service for the customer huh! Not at this Michaels, I stood by the sign in the stire waiting to be acknowledged by 1 of the 2 cashiers that was at the register 6 ft away, no luck. I raised my voice in their direction to ask if someone will provide assistance? One of the cashier responded by asking me to get in the line (which had approx 10 people) and one of the cashiers will assist me. The only entity who benefited from the purchase online pick up in the store is Michaels, they get your money sooner and you still must wait in line. read more

I just had a horrible experience with the Michaels store in Springfield,Virginia. I went on line to order an item. The website said my order would be ready for pick up in two hours as they proceeded to charge my credit card. Went to the store to pick up my order, I first asked the only cashier where do I pick up my on line order, she tried to bring it up but said she couldn't find it so she called the manager. I waited about 15 minutes for the manager to come up front. She finally showed up, checked the tablet and said that my order was cancelled due to the store not having the item in stock. I asked how could it not be in stock, I just ordered it online which said that the store had three items left in inventory. The manager proceeded to tell me in an "not my problem" attitude that the stores are not liable for what is listed on line. I said it would have been nice to have been informed of this prior to me driving to that Michaels which was 20 miles away from my home. The manager said that the on line store did contact me so I checked my email right there, as soon as I opened my email I noticed the cancellation notice just popped up, I told her they just sent it right then. She said sorry there's nothing I can do about it. I said this was a bad way to conduct business and a total was of my time. Also I said my credit card better be refunded. The manager again said sorry not my problem, its the on line stores problem. Real show of professionalism.Never ordering from them again. read more
