I have been going to Michael's Shoe Repair for years and have always been very happy with the service and the quality of work done by Michael. I was, therefore, surprised to read negative reviews about him! I took two pairs of boots to him recently, and even though they took three weeks vs. the one week he estimated it would take, it was well worth the wait!! Michael went above and beyond and even delivered them to me at my house the day after I went in to pick them up, as he had had something unexpected come up the day before and couldn't finish them! One of my pairs is a vintage grey suede heel boot that I love. When I got them just now, I found that not only were the heels beautiful, but the suede looks brand new!! So, he cleaned them as well!! If I could give negative stars I would. Dropped off boots the week after Thanksgiving and was told $10 to fix the loop and would be a couple of days. A week goes by and NO contact. I call and leave message after message with no return call. I drive there - closed. My husband drives there - closed. He is closed more than he is open. Never returns a call. See photo - really??? This business was highly recommended as "the best guy in town" for shoe repair. I understood that he may not have the same brown material and gave him full permission to make them match. On 1/30/19 I happened to catch him open. Walked in and my boots were on the counter ready to go. I said I have left numerous messages - no reply. He said he tried to call me - complete BS. Call more than once or leave a voice mail. Poor customer service. Poor workmanship. These are embarrassing. I now have to spend money to have them correctly repaired. read more

I brought my favorite pair of Sperry Boat Shoes to Chris at Michael's Shoe Service after the original soles started falling off. I noticed I was walking like I was wearing a Donald Duck suit and going up stairs with the shoes on was proving to be difficult. After 4 years of wear and conforming, I didn't want to buy a new pair of Sperrys. Chris took the time to educate me on the design of the shoe and what my repa...resurrection options were. Chris was awesome to deal with and kept me informed on the status of my shoes throughout the process. The final product and repairs came out great! The resurrected/Michael's Shoe Service version of the Sperry Boat Shoes are more comfortable than the originals... In fact, I'm still wearing the shoes. I have brought many shoes in to be repaired over the years and sometimes I get them back in a week, other times longer. But, they are great at what they do and are super nice to do business with. I don't live close by so I save up a few pairs for myself and my friends then make a trek out of it. There are other cobblers in our area, but not as good as the folks at Michael's. If they ever close or leave the area, it will be a great loss to the community!!! read more

Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with Michael's Shoe Repair. Though the people working there are polite and kind, they seem to know very little about running an effective and efficient business. First, I was told that it would take would take two weeks for the buckles to be replaced on my boots. Four weeks later, I had yet to hear from them. I called the store four times and left four messages, inquiring about my shoes and received no call back. When I went in person to the store, I spoke with the woman at the desk. When I asked her if I could have my boots back because it was taking too long, she said that she couldn't do that. She was unwilling to look for them. She said that when her son was back, he would find them. I asked when that would happen and she said she had no idea when that would be. I eventually did get my boots back because the owner's son happened to return minutes later. There was no explanation as to why it was taken so long and the owners said nothing else but "we've been busy" when asked why I had not been called or why my messages had not been returned. In addition to the struggle to get back my shoes, the store is open for very limited hours and they vary from week to week. You cannot depend on them to be open during set times and it is difficult to predict exactly what that will be. I can't say anything about the quality of the work they do, but I can't tell you that it's probably not worth the headache. read more

I have never been more disappointed in any service I've ever received in my entire life. In June of 2018, I brought in a pair of Demonia platform boots whose soles were loosening and was told that there was a cheap fix and a good fix for it, so I opted for the good fix. I was given an estimate of $35 and wasn't given a time estimate, but told them I wasn't in any hurry since it would be too hot to wear the boots for at least a few months. I heard nothing for months and had an ongoing family emergency during that time, so I didn't think about it too much. Around September I started calling the store, but no one ever picked up and the voicemails I left were never returned. I drove to the store in person and was told that the owner's son was supposed to be working on them but clearly no one had even started yet. I was told it would be a couple more weeks. Over the next three or so months, I returned to the store no fewer than half a dozen times to check on the progress because, again, no one ever picked up the phone or returned my calls. I was told this was Verizon's fault and that they couldn't access their voicemail. How a business of this type manages to run without working phones is beyond me, but anyway - each time I went in I was told they were still working on them and that they were proving more difficult to fix than initially thought, but they'd get right on it and it would only be a few more days. This went on for MONTHS. I finally got a voicemail that they were done, 6 MONTHS after I dropped them off. I went to pick them up and the store was closed despite my visit being during their regular business hours. I went back AGAIN and FINALLY got my boots, paid the full $35, and left. I wore them maybe three times and the whole sole came off one of the boots while I was out with friends, tripping me and almost causing me to twist my ankle. Fortunately the restaurant I was at had some electrical tape, so I taped them up so I could walk. This ended up taking the finish off parts of the boot when I was home and could unwrap them. 6 months, $35, numerous trips to the store, and I'm worse off than when I started. Frankly, I'm disgusted. If the boots were too difficult to repair they should have just told me up front, rather than wasting a ton of my time and money - not just for the repair, but for the gas I used driving to the store 6+ times over the course of 6 months. I would never recommend this business to anyone and will warn everyone I know to stay away. I've never written a Yelp review before but since I just got done wrangling a bungee cord and C-clamp around these boots with some shoe glue to fix what was supposed to have been solved by this business over a year ago, I'm furious enough to sit down and dedicate the time to it. I'm mad at myself for letting them keep my boots for so long when they clearly had better things to do than provide the service I was promised (and paid for in full) in a timely manner. Michaels Shoe Service is one of the few, shoe repair ,businesses in our area. Everytime I go to Michaels, I can count great service. They are honest about what they do, and how much it will cost. You can feel comfortable dropping off a pair of $900.00 shoes or a $20.00 pair of shoes for repair. They are able to repair almost any shoe, even when you think it can be, and for a reasonable cost. read more
