I needed a couple of pairs of shoes in was coming down from Indian Lake New York well I took a nice five day vacation. I remembered buying shoes here before and decided to stop in. It looked inside just as I remembered it and Charlie greeted me warmly. I told him I had called before I told him what I wanted a white pair of wide sneakers. As well as a black pair with the Velcro strips. He went to look and came back with the white sneakers. It's an old fashion shoe store where you sit and he comes back measures your feet as you put your feet up on the stool and put the sneakers on your feet. Then you walk around and see how they feel inside the store. Between putting on the second pair of shoes in the first pair he got a call from a regular customer. He said that if she couldn't come in he could stop at her house and bring some pairs of shoes and measure her feet. Where do you ever hear that anymore a house call from the shoe store. I tried on the black pair of shoes and they fit perfectly. I remembered I wanted some shoe horns and he had them. Then we got to talking about Gloversville. He said that he likes to listen to Records when he goes home I mentioned I am a big fan of Records and have a nice hi fidelity system. He told me they used to be a record pressing plant in Gloversville. He was taking a tour of the plant and saw how they manufacture the records. He said there were two or more different companies that ran the record pressing plant. It was a real pleasure to come and get shoes here. You have the old-fashioned customer service and excellent prices. So if you're looking for sneakers or boots or women's shoes. Absolutely stop by the shoe store. It's a rare bird to have such nice personal service these days. read more

Mr. Rossbach is a great man. He took the time to listen to my complaints about plantar fasciitis, measured my feet, then pulled three or four pairs of shoes for me to try. He was very professional and when I explained that I am only allowed plain black shoes with no additional coloring or accents (work dress code), he disappeared into the back and reappeared with another shoe that met these stringent specifications. He has hundreds of pairs of shoes and is very knowledgeable. It is also a pleasure to patronize a small business. read more

The best thing about this shoe store might be the wacky advertisement they're running on WFNY (itself a very unusual radio station based in Gloversville). It features local voice actors giving a not-especially-convincing performance that makes me very much want to investigate the store behind the ad. read more

brandsCharlie is the best. I am 67 years old, "old enough to know better but don't" as we used to say! Believe me, I have tried them all - the oh, so cute! Timberland display of the boot in the pool got me one year, the Chippewas another (only lasted one roofing job!), several Columbias, Herman Survivors, the list of "name brand" footware I have used up is long and distinguished. I think I have paid for a lot of advertising over the years! Here is a MUCH better idea: Go to Rossbach's, meet Charlie, and put your feet "in his hands!" I took his advice last year and now own the best pair of waterproof sneakers/walking shoes I have ever owned. My wife has been delighted with her selections - Charlie let's nothing but the best quality items into his shop. And I can not think of any other shop that can offer such expert advice - Charlie listens to what you need and will find the perfect fit, style, and quality that you need. You will never find a better resource! And I now own the most comfortable, best built and handsome boot of my many, many years. They are called Rockys and I had never heard of them!
