Their valentines, St. Patrick's Day, and clearance items for Christmas. Decide to come by here to try to find a tin container with a clear top on it, that also has some kind of secure lock. Never seem to find something when I have a very specific item I'm looking for. I ended up having to walk around the store in order to find any of the storage containers I was looking for. They have a shelf or aisle, almost full of Cricket items. We use our mighty cricket at our store for quick and small jobs all of the time. Found small tins, but no see-through top and they were about half the size of the container I was looking for. A staple in the arts community, this big box craft store can hold its own yet has growth areas. Some staff are friendlier than others but I suspect it's because they're overworked and/or short staffed. When I needed something, it was hard to locate a person working there and I ended up walking main aisles until finding someone to address my question. A worker told me some people won't show up or follow through on their scheduled interview with some not even showing up for their shift. That has to be difficult for management yet the short staff contributed to the efficiency of my trip when stopping in. The yarn selection is changing as this chain brings in "new" options following the downsizing of their former competitor. I appreciate the differing coupons available which make it possible to find items affordable. Michael's is a great option considering local craft stores often have higher prices and some crafters/projects are either not into handspun or natural fibers nor require those as a necessary material. The check-out process is predominantly electronic and card based so keep that in mind if you're hoping to use cash. I had an absolutely horrible experience here the other day. There were apparently three people working the store and in these times customers understand that and I was beyond patient. I tried to return an item (apparently from a third party seller) and the cashier was so rude going on and on about how bad third party returns are for HER, excuse me? "I can't scan a receipt.. I can't put this back on the floor to sell.. you should contact the company that sold it and request a return." Really? Do you own the store? Is this coming out of your pocket? It really is not my problem that YOUR STORE SELLS it, so you should be able to return it. When I took it off the counter and said I will deal with it the lady suddenly became nice and said "Oh, are you sure?" Yes, I was sure I did not want to deal with her anymore. When I was in the middle of this, a couple of people also asked her questions and she was very mean to them and acted like we were all bothering her. The photo department staff are the best though. read more

I like this michaels. It's the right size and not overwhelming. We found jewelry making kits for 70% off, so we loaded up in so much of our supplies to be ready for the holiday season! Easy parking here, not too crazy of a parking lot. People here are pretty friendly. They usually have coupons available and does take their competitors too! read more

My mom and I ended up here today after going to JoAnn's across the street. Previously, JoAnn's had helped us with custom framing, but complimentary, which I guess they aren't supposed to do ... literally just helping us pick out frames, inserting our prints into the frames, and cleaning the frames with some light cleaning stuff. The manager at JoAnn's today informed us (politely, but firmly ...) that they don't do that anymore, so we went to Michael's instead. Andreaka helped us choose frames and later inserted our prints into the frames. I'm very pleased with the frame I bought (I actually chose my frame, she chose the frame for my mom's print though) and we also were able to use 50% off coupons from Michael's website. Not sure why this Michael's has such low reviews, so I'm hopping on here to say that if you need any framing done, it's a great place to do so. read more

This Michael's location is a little smaller than the other ones you'll find in the area, which is hard when there is a MASSIVE JoAnn's right across the street. However, Michael's had 80% off chalkboard globes I needed for a wedding project and I was able to purchase a few at this location. Each store is organized a little differently but it didn't take us long to find them. Checkout was quick and pleasant. I'm a sales shopper so make sure you sign up for their coupons- we saved a bunch of money on other supplies as well, so you can make things for an affordable price if you time them right. read more

Found the best clearance price at this Michael's in Novi. 75% off the most from the original price. The cashiers/merchandise people were courteous and helpful. What i liked most about this location is that they arrange the sales items per department or category. Currently the barbecue and Fourth of July theme is at 50% off. The entrance and exit door is hard to open. Im not even sure how they can make it easier for people with disability open the doors without sensor. They might need to change the doors into sliding with sensor. I am not a fan of parking outside in a slanting position. Anyways, ill be back soon with coupons! read more

The Novi location in West Oaks seems to be a little smaller than the Madison Heights or Livonia's Michael's but it still has most of the same merch. If you're into crafts, or like me, you have a career where you get to think and create outside the box solutions for people needing help, then Michael's is a good place to jump in. They've got a fairly extensive framing department, tons of craft type stuff, home decor, all kinds of plastic build models from cars to planes to boats, They also have a ton of quality art supplies and a good amount of knick knacks that a teacher could find fun for the students. Perusing the isles is always fun and I usually find something to spark some creative light on the task at hand. read more

I ran in to get a measuring tape hoping it would be a quick trip... That was wishful thinking... The store was messy, not organized well and had only one employee working. It took me 10 minutes to find the one thing I needed. When I finally reach the cashier, there was an obnoxious drunk man holding up the line by eating the chocolates at the register and refusing to pay for them. As I was standing in line I noticed someone walk out the front door with unpaid merchandise. Wake up Michael's... JoAnn Etc is right next door and there is no contest as to where customers should go to buy their craft supplies-a clean, organized store with sufficient staffing. read more

After waiting inline for a half hour; I had to come back in and return my item and they said I had to wait in line again for another half hour to exchange the item for a different size. This store refuses to get a guest service center for customers to return things. I should not have to wait twice in the same line, when all I needed was an exchange that takes two seconds. Horrible service not enough employees to even run the cash registers during the holidays and no one to help anyone find anything in the store. You have to grab someone from the registers to help you and then in stead of 3 registers out of 5 now there are only two! Horrible!!! hire people to work and make an area for returns and exchanges to appease customers. Absolutely horrible and this is not the first time, this Michaels is always under staffed year round!!! Go to Joann's they give better coupons! read more

This particular store's location sucks! The inventory is crap, they never have a good selection, their dollar section is always picked over and sloppy, and they only have ONE cashier up at the front when they have 20 customers ready with lots of things in their carts!!! Oh and it would be helpful, if every 90 year old woman wouldn't stop to talk about crap when their IS only ONE cashier and there are OTHER PEOPLE WAITING IN LINE!!!!!!!!!! My mom and I come to Michael's almost every week and typically come to the Novi or Canton location. The Novi location has always been far less helpful than the other Michael's in the area but after our experience today, we will no longer be coming to this location. We asked for a price match and were told by the cashier that they did not price match this particular store. We walked out and I checked the Michael's website to find that they price match all brick and mortar stores. I got back in line and showed the ad and website to another cashier. After huffing and puffing, she ultimately gave us the price match but was so incredibly rude about it. She did not even price the item to beat the other store's price by 10% like the Michael's website states. Additionally, she didn't even bag my items, just left them sitting on top of a bag on the counter and called over the next customer before she had given me my receipt. If Michael's is going to advertise that they price match, they should refrain from having their associates treat their customers like dirt when they utilize it. read more

I cannot believe the experience I just had with this store. My mother came to Michigan to visit and bought me over $100 in art supplies for an art class I ended up dropping out of. She returned to Florida. I didn't ask her for the receipt, obviously not knowing I'd be dropping out of this class and would be needing to return colored pencils and pastels. I checked their online policy before even attempting to return them. They said they would just need a photo ID and I'd be given a gift card. Perfect. So I go into the store and explain that my mother has the receipt and she lives in Florida, everything is in brand new packaging still and I even had the bag I got them in! I proceeded to explain my mother got them for me, and I highly doubt my mom even held on to that receipt. She told me she just "didn't believe me and wouldn't be doing the returns today". I then decided to even pull out my FLORIDA DRIVERS LICENSE since she told me she "didn't believe I was from Florida or my mother was from Florida". She then stared and me and said "I don't believe you and we aren't returning it. I'm also leaving messages to all Michaels in the area to not do the return." I was so shocked and dumbfounded, I was brought to tears by how rude this woman was to me!! She basically just went against policy, and embarrassed me because she "didn't believe me" though there was evidence to everything I was saying. She was just plain rude. I'll NEVER do business with any Michaels again. I'm truly saddened by how they treat customers who spend so much money. I'll be reporting it to corporate as well. read more

If you know where a product is located in the store, Michaels is just fine. Once something is not a seasonal item and requires some thought process, do not ask anybody working there. Even managers have no clue, but lots of attitude. I would recommend some training on all levels. I had to suggest to look it up on the computer to even get a clue what I was talking about. And the product line a Michaels exclusive!!! And the manager that "has been here for a long time" has no clue what I am talking about! Very sad! read more
