But this is definitely going to be a local store that we'll be going to a lot more, even if the prices are a little higher for them to make margins. This is the kind of game store I want in keep in our community! I'll admit I was a little apprehensive to engage with the staff at first due to my inexperience in this kind of envitonmemt, but my kid immediately gravitated toward the Pokemon cards behind the glass counter and we were asked if there was anything we needed help with. We have been looking all over for affordable, genuine cards to little avail. Unfortunately, the cards at this shop were all way outside our range (he's just trying to get started out): $45+ booster boxes or $5+ individual cards. We were obviously not going to be able to make a purchase today (looking for something like one $5 booster pack) but the team member was very helpful taking the time to explain the kids trading card market, suggest other places to look, offer advice on finding affordable cards, and let my kid take his time to pour over the cards behind the counter. On the way out, he generously shared a simple gift that meant so much for my kid. I don't know if he'll read this but thank you so much for making my kid's day - he was over the moon to have some Pokemon cards of his own to share with his friends at school. This is the kind of local game store that is a treasure to have in the community. I definitely will be bringing my kids around in the future to support it some more! Thanks again!

After having Sunday brunch nearby I was looking for video game stores to stop at on my way back to…read moreWisconsin. Everything Games was close by and open, so I drove over to check them out. The store is impressive. They have an awesome selection of retro video games, board games, LEGO, miniatures for Warhammer, anime related plush, sports cards, and card games like Magic, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh. There's even a good size gaming area where I saw people playing in a card game tournament. As good as the inventory was, their customer service was even better. A specific video game I wanted was priced $10 more than the current market value, so I brought that to their attention. Rather than getting mad and arguing with me about their prices, the employee pulled up the same website I was using for a reference and confirmed what I was seeing. He then adjusted the price without hesitation. Now that's customer service. I would glad to go out of my way to come back to Everything Games next time I'm in the Chicago area.

The inside is very well organized and has a bit of everything (toys, cards, funko pops, etc). I visited to look at their funko pop selection and was thoroughly impressed by their variety of pops and quantity of selection. They had pops ranging from sports, tv shows, marvel, disney, anime, horror, and more. Most items were commons but they had some more rare, graded, and signed items near the main counter. The pricing was a little above market value but it's always cool to see certain pops in person. They were running a "buy two, get one free" on pops under $50 which helps on pricing!

This place is exactly what's wrong with many collecting hobbies. Yea, the selection here is pretty…read moregood. That's mostly because the prices are terrible--worse than eBay and Facebook marketplace scalpers. Case in point: there's a pokemon illustrated set that just came out. It's $17. You can still get lucky at retailers and it'll be restocked. Here, just 2 days after launch, they're selling for $50. Just nuts. I guess it's clear this isn't a "card shop," it's a scalpers storefront. Don't go here looking for Lorcana--guessing the margins are too low. Except for their singles, which they sell for $2-4....crazy pricing for Lorcana. Anyways, i won't be back. Will have to continue my search for a card shop that's ethical and somewhat reasonable. --------- Edit in response to business reply: 1) i agree conversation could go a long way. But when your pricing on a brand new Pokémon set (which doesn't have a set market yet) is already 3x MSRP, what productive conversation can happen? It's just a straight up gouge. I'm not naive to expect to get everything at MSRP, but i think 3x markup 2 days post launch is unreasonable. 2) i did ask about Lorcana. I was told you "don't carry much" and "didn't have any right now." 3) you seem to be implying that you're aware prices are high and can then be negotiated lower. If that's how you want to do it that's your prerogative, just understand that's offputting for new customers. It's hard to want to establish a relationship and have a conversation when the first impression is being taken advantage of. And when your response to pricing questions is "well the hobby is thriving!" I don't think that's off base.

Last time, it was a new girl with someone shadowing her, I figured i was good since she had someone monitoring her. The monitor was pretty distracted with chatting and when i got home, i realized that i had been charged full price for paper plates and napkins which are ALWAYS 50% off. why not just price them that way? anyways i got taken that day. Today i bought 8 of the tshirts that are marked $4.37 but are again always 30% off or $2.99. i honestly think the cashier was the same new girl from the last visit (3weeksago). she rings up the first two shirts at $4.37 each. i told her that they were always 30% off and she just blankly stared at me and grabbed another shirt to ring up at $4.37. i said please stop as i am not paying that price so please look on your sheet to see that they are $2.99. She really didn't seem to have a clue what to do at this point so i said to the cashier at the next register "how much are these shirts?". trying to assure the young girl that they were $2.99. the other cashier said they are $2.99 30% off and told me to not scold her as she's new and that i should be patient with her?! what? who wasn't patient? i got that she didn't have a clue what to do and was trying to get her some assistance on how to proceed as she had frozen. The nerve of that woman to criticize me in front of many others when i was supportive of the young girl without mindlessly paying twice the cost so she wouldn't have to deal with the real price. So.disgusted. if someone needs extra training - please provide it to them but don't yell at your customers when they try to work through the situation.

Hobby Lobby is a land of a bazillion potential ideas. I walked around for an hour and a half (much to my sister's dismay) and had to stop myself from starting too many projects at once. The home decor items are at the very least interesting and the very best unique and fantastic. You'll find your fair share of ceramic roosters, but there are some great treasures there as well. I don't like buying things there unless they are on sale. It seems to rotate through the sections. One day ribbon is full price, the next day it is half price. Just don't pay full price unless you have to. The paintbrush section is a lot better than Michael's selection. There are more brands and higher quality brands with more brush shapes. It's no Blick, but for suburban McHenry, it gets the job done. The paper options are also notable. They had a LOT of different types and prints. Some Michaels have a good selection, but I have yet to see one as good as Hobby Lobby. If you are like me and like picking up items and getting ideas, the clearance section is like a treasure hunt. I picked up a lot of very cheap items that I know I will use in the future. It's quite fun to dig through. Why 2 stars? The owner of Hobby Lobby has no interest in supporting women's rights or gay rights. WHO DO YOU THINK SHOPS AT YOUR STORE??? While I think the employees I've come across are fantastic and truly enjoy the store, I just can't give it more than 2 stars. And sadly after writing this and feeling rather hypocritical about shopping here....I will put my money behind companies who care about the rights of their customers and employees.
