When this Michael's first opened a while back this was my favorite craft store by far. I always had coupons and was able to use more than one at a time. Everyone was so friendly and I would go there 2 to 3 times a week. In the recent times I've been going, maybe the past year or so, the workers have either changed or had a shift in attitude. Whenever I ask for help they tell me they don't know or just ignore me. When they do answer me, they give me attitude and I feel like they are talking down to me. It makes me so sad. Also, they started only take one coupon and when I asked why they just said "that's just the way it is..." or if I got a coupon on my iphone but it is unable to load, because Iphones don't have flash or java, they refuse to accept it because and I quote they said to me that "I would just come back and use it again tomorrow." I had already gotten everything I needed and I was so upset I almost wanted to walk about but I needed the items for my class project. I hope another craft store opens soon that is inexpensive... I had some custom frame work done here recently. Very satisfied with the quality & professionalism of the staff. Employees are very helpful & I was grateful for the assistance in picking out a good frame style. The custom framing seems to have weekly specials/discounts that change every Saturday night, so keep your eye on the deals before actually ordering. read more

Store is nice, but its lacking employees. Holiday season just started and only 2 cashiers with 0 employees walking the store to help. Things are on sale, but have no way of knowing price, unless you wait in the long line of people waiting to check out. read more

Although a little out of the way for most people that live in Monterey it is nice to have a Michael's for affordable larger frames (they are usually always 40% off). Service although slow is pretty solid. They can be attentive. Feel like doing some mosaic art? Well heads up they don't sell mosaic tile nippers. read more

This review is for custom framing...I had two large works framed here. The fact that it was strikingly expensive even on sale seems to be a given at most frame shops so I really can't hold this against them. However, the quality, especially in regard to the mounting of the pictures was really bad. One picture has folds and depressions and the other has waves. This is even after bringing the really bad one back to be remounted. The lesson I've learned is to buy framed art or perhaps try a local framing shop that seems to know what they are doing. its big, its newer, its nicer than salinas!!! very decent selection, good service. sometimes their lines get OOC-crazy-long! but they are awesome about product searching and have often answered my questions regarding their stocking & delivery schedules for certain products. Anybody looking for cheap(er) products? use the Michaels iphone app----They give you Coupons that way!!!!! and it is cheaper than Beverly's with a better selection too. I make my living in crafts, so I'm always shopping either here or at Beverly's. The prices here are good, but my biggest gripe is that they never seem to restock. Jewelry supplies? Picked over. Paint section? Picked over and unorganized. They have the Martha Stewart paints (yayy!!!) but they've slowly been going out of stock one-by-one (boo). They appear to have a decent packaging supply selection, but then you get home you realize your kraft bags & jewelry boxes have impossible-to-remove price stickers on the bottom. Seriously? I brought up my need for a particular item to (what I assume was) the manager the other day. While he was very helpful and attentive to my face, he took down my number with a promise to call the next day (men..) and then, shocker, never got back with me. I needed a large quantity of this item, so it would have been a big sale. Unfortunately for Michael's, I took my need to the internet instead. read more

Michael's has all of the supplies for the moments when my brain has a great idea & I need to go to one store to get what I need to bring it to life. Some of the oddest things that I have needed, they have. The Marina location is great because it isn't very busy, picked over, and the employees here will help you find what you need or answer questions you may have about products or projects. read more

This is a really nice, big, and new Michael's. The bead section is organized much more impressively than other Michael's; you aren't trapped in stacks of aisles. The sticker and scrapbooking selection is huge, and you can usually get a specialty crafting tool there, with a few options as well. read more

In the grand scheme of things this Michael's location is more of a 2 star "Meh. I've experienced better." However, in terms of a crafts store it's definitely A-Ok. I use to think that these kind of stores actively sought out the most inefficient and rude employees but then I thought to myself "is it really a coincidence that Michael's and Beverley's have the same hiring requirements?" So I've reevaluated my supposition. Maybe these places actually hire your everyday people full of life, energy, and kindness but being surrounded by scrap booking moms and Pinterest happy DIY-ers slowly wears them down and chips away at their soul. Which sucks for me because I just trying to buy a pair of fabric scissors with my 40% off coupon. So sorry to burden you with my presence! read more

I've been shopping at the Micheal's in Salinas for many years and heard about the one in Marina so I decided to check it out. Yes, its a lot bigger than the one in Salinas but its a mess and the employees are very rude. I almost felt like I was shopping at Walmart. Its such a big store that you would think they would be a little more organized. I was disappointed. Every time I ask the employees in Salinas for help they are more than welling to help me, even go show me were the item is. I asked the Marina Store employee were something was and he said over there and pointed than he walked away. I was in shock O_O. I will never go back there again! read more

Michael's always seems like a good place to go to buy things, but it never works out that way. Staff is never anywhere to be found. Organization of the store is kinda terrible. If you know exactly what you want and don't mind paying a little extra for it, Michael's can be great. Otherwise, you'll get the same service on the internet...and the prices will be cheaper. read more

The manager herself (Jen) spent about 5-10 minutes helping me design my idea. She is genuinely interested in your ideas and she also is very crafty and creative herself. It's a bit out of the way from Monterey (located off the 12th Street exit in the same plaza as Target and REI), but this past weekend I ended up at Michael's 3 times in a period of 3 days. Their selection of frames is pretty good, and they kept giving me coupons for 40% off one regularly priced item (limit one per customer per day). I managed to frame a bunch of oddly sized pieces of artwork for a pretty low price. My kitchen and bathroom look a lot prettier now. Thanks, Michael's! read more

i love Michael's but i hate that they have so much stuff that i want! every time i go here i go in every isle and my bf won't even go with me anymore because i could stay in there for hours looking at everything and filling up my cart. She helped me find the things I needed and gave me more great ideas on my project that I was doing. The manager here was very helpful I did not catch his name but he was very attentive and helpful. While other employees seemed scattered and annoyed. He walked me to the correct section I needed to be in and helped me get a discount on the product. This manager was very involved with the customers and extremely helpful. read more

This review is for the employee by the name of MELISSA who was very sarcastic and rude to me. I first asked her if they accept cash but I meant to say cash over $100 and she made me feel stupid by saying "yes we accept cash!!" I only had a $100 bill on me and I felt as if she was judging me " oh so your just rolling in the dough popping hundreds out" um excuse me.. it's none of your business how much money I'm holding. I was so thrown off by her rudeness that I forgot to use my coupon and she rudely in her fake voice said "oh I'm sorry" and handed me my change . I will not be shopping here again bc of her. Plenty of papers to choose from for my scrapbooking projects. I take my grandchildren here and they always find something interesting to bring home. I wish they have more stamp collection so that I wouldn't have to drive to San Jose. The great thing about Michael's are the promotions and sales they offer from time to time. I am so irritated right now. I checked out and the sales lady left my pile of craft supplies on the counter. After I paid I asked her if she was going to bag them. She looked at me like I was an idiot and said bags are ten cents. Note- she had not mentioned that at all during check out. So I asked her to clarify, because I'm new to the area and I didn't know that a plastic bag now cost money and she repeated herself so sassy and rude. Ide already paid and I had to carry all of my purchases out like a total idiot because I didn't have a dime! So freaking rude! Where is the customer service? Why the hell am I paying ten cents for a fucking bag?? Garbage! read more

Every time I go in this store, I get the distinct impression that nobody who works there actually crafts. I read many craft blogs and I am pretty up to speed on crafting trends, and over the years I have gone to this Michael's looking for some of the things I see online and 9 times out of 10, I am disappointed. Years ago, it was bakers twine, they tried to sell me yarn. Then I went there looking for washi tape. Nope. I had known about it for two years before this store started carrying it. Then I bought a Silhouette die cutting machine there, only to take it home open it and find that someone had used it, and returned it with a completely messed up, cut up mat. They didn't inspect it before they took back the item. Today I went in looking for crepe paper sheets. They didn't have them and recommended tissue paper. Sigh. Michael's why do I even bother with you anymore? Quit trying to just be a retailer. Any idiot can buy wholesale and mark up. Focus on being the expert in the crafting world, stocking the cool stuff, hiring people who are passionate about crafting, maybe having a workshop every now and then... that's how to get people to spend money in your store. I will never shop here again! I brought in three canvas art pictures to be mounted on canvas board, and I was told that they could not do that and that I needed to choose a metal frame for each one, so after choosing the frames and $200 later ( and that is after their supposedly 70% off coupon) I left my pictures and received a call approximately two weeks later stating that they could not use the frame that I chose, even though the girl that worked there told me that was the frame I had to take. They asked me to come in and choose another frame at further cost I might add, and when I got there the pictures were already framed. They didn't even wait for me to get there to decide what they were going to do with my pictures, and they look horrible. I was not even given the choice to choose another frame, they made the choice for me and basically told me that I was not eligible for a refund because the pictures were already framed. Michael's will never see another ounce of my business ever again. read more

Be ready to wait. Lines are so long and so very slow. Early Thursday morning, ten people in line, two checkers. One customer using a coupon so of course all other checkers and employees have to help, making the wait even longer. Amazon.com works for much better for me. I had such a bad experience this afternoon at this Michael's! I had two items to purchase and was about fourth in line. I was patiently waiting. Once it was my turn, the guy working the register told me the other checker would help me instead. I walked to the other checker station and found a woman being helped there, WHO HAD A HUGE BASKET OF ITEMS. I returned to the previous checker and told him that I had already waited about 15 minutes in line and I don't understand why he decided to close his check stand when he still had a customer waiting. He told me that he only opened his check stand to help the other people in line (?) and that he wasn't even supposed to be at a register. He told me to go back to the other checker. I go back to the other stand and now THREE OTHER PEOPLE have gotten in line that I am behind. I go back to the original checker to ask why he cannot help me, I do not want to wait in line anymore. By this time he is actually helping another customer who has some questions. So I stand and wait. And wait and wait and wait. Just as I decide to forget it and leave, he turns to me and asks if I need help. Um, yeah I do. I told him that I considered this terrible customer service and that I wanted to speak to the manager. All of a sudden, he could THEN open his register and it would be okay for him to check me out. I paid for my two items and left. What a shame, I go to this Michael's frequently. I spend a few hundred dollars a month here and have always ignored the customer service issues in the past (no one around to help, lethargic acting employees, long check out lines) but this was just too frustrating to ignore. I think it might be worth the drive to the Seaside craft store from now on. read more
