Unfortunately, our experience here was uncomfortable and disappointing. My parents and I stopped by over the weekend hoping to find some gifts for friends. As soon as we walked in, one of the staff members gave us a long, uncomfortable stare that she didn't break even though there were other shoppers in the store as well. She approached us shortly after and asked if we needed help, which we politely declined. However, instead of moving on, she continued to watch us closely the entire time, making us feel singled out and unwelcome. We had no intention of doing anything wrong--we simply came in to browse and support a local business. It's sad and frustrating to be treated in a way that made us feel judged and uncomfortable. This is not the experience we expected or deserved.... Definitely NOT coming back . read more

I love visiting this shop whenever I need to find a gift! The employees are always so kind and helpful. They've guided me to the perfect present no matter the occasion. I also love that they carry Lula's Chocolates (the best!). My favorite is the Dark Aloha Rocky Road. My 2016 review is woefully out of date. The store is now located in the 100 block of main street. The heart of downtown Salinas. Bigger store than the previous location. More stuff = more fun. Most items can not be found anywhere else in Salinas. Owner, Donna Bruhn, goes for the unique. I'm sure that you will find something to delight you or the person that you will give a gift from here. Salinas visitors: Make this store a destination if you've never been here before and are curious about the town. There are several boutiques on Main street worth a look. And have a meal at Villa Azteca across the street, it's creative Mexican food (Not the same old, same old Tex-Mex tacos, burritos, quesadillas). The food is way above average quality. read more

There are a lot of items in this store, we got lost in it for a while just looking at all the selection they had of everything. And I mean everything, stuff for women, men, kids, babies, weddings, birthdays, ect....We found some items for gifts to our friends and family and the staff was really nice. She gave us some little candies as a thank you for stopping in, she was really funny, and little corky, made us laugh. Now located in the new Taylor Bldg in Oldtown. We've been customers since her days of sharing space with Zeph's. Convenient and brand-new spot across from Maya Cinema. Making downtown look spiffy and attractive. I've been there twice in the past month. Mainly because it's now so close to dining spots that I frequent. Owner Donna says she's never been so busy, so this is a good move for her, Salinas and shoppers. Win-win-win. Primarily geared toward females, you'll find newborn clothes and gifts for baby showers, holiday decor (plenty of white and gold colors this year), kitchen gifts (like the asparagus spear ceramic plate and matching spreaders), candles, lotions (unique lotions with quality ingredients and unique scents), and purses and ponchos and anything a female would love for a gift. I picked up a snowman for about $22. And a card for a friend going through breast cancer treatment. And I'll be back to have another look at some of the holiday decor. Walking into Gifts on the Go instantly makes you wish you never bothered setting foot in there. The staff that assist customers, leave you feeling horrible. Constantly harassing you with questions, and showing obvious signs that they are assuming people are up to no good. It is so unfortunate, because this store offers great items. But it kills me to go into this store knowing that I am going to be experiencing awful treatment!!!! Emphasis on the awful part! Donna really needs to change her ways and I suggest she attends a customer service conference!! Please know that I am not making this up or being dramatic. The feelings I've experienced after shopping here are inexcusable. Lastly, writing this review itself is triggering and Gifts on the Go is not a place I'll recommend. read more

As an upstanding citizen of Salinas valley and a proud Latina woman, I take pride in my community. I love doing my part to serve, as well as support the small businesses of this town. I am always excited to see small businesses thrive and I was so happy to feel like I could make a recent purchase for a friend at a small business. I am so upset with how I was treated by the staff at this establishment. I felt like I could not shop comfortably and I was constantly being followed by a both ladies in the shop. I got a moment to walk into the new location (behind the bowling alley) and WOW, was I impressed! I was so bummed that I only had about 10 minutes because I love chatting with the store owner (Donna) and perusing all of the unique and darling items...her suggestions are always right on the money. I ended up with 4 gifts, 2 for myself and the others were received with big smiles and "Wow, where did you find this? It's great!". Went to buy my mother an 80th birthday gift and the lady here was remarkably helpful but not too annoying helpful... which is always nice. She made some wonderful suggestions but my mother has Alzheimer's and doesn't cook or write with stationary. I ended up purchasing a beautiful wreath with acorns on it which had significant meaning in our house. She absolutely loved it and commented several times about it.
