Ordered the 2pc fish and Chips , clam chowder, 3 pc mushrooms and can soda which amounted to 17 dollars. Would recommend people to study the menu first to get the best deals possible. Fish was perfectly battered and a nice sizing. Wouldn't recommend the fried mushroom. Batter is perfect but when you bite into it's just a watery mushroom. Probably the best fish and chips in Huntington Beach. Super friendly service the very nice gentleman working behind the counter was the owners brother. You could feel the family pride. I live so close to this place I could walk here but in my seven years of living at our house have never come here. I got the two piece fish and two piece. This is a spot that needed to die off after the pandemic. The other reviewers were right. The owner nickel and dimes you for everything. He advertises a special for $5 2 piece fish and chips but when he rings you up it costs almost $8, wtf? An extra dollar for a quarter-filled container of tartar sauce? He acts like he doesn't know English when you ask him questions about prices and just smiles and walks off after he gets your money. The batter is literally the tasteless thick stuff you see at carnivals and fairs. Everything was under cooked. The fish was mushy inside probably because he fries it frozen. He told me it was halibut but I'm pretty sure it was a super cheap fish. The "chips" were cheap bulk fries that were soggy and gross. He advertises "homemade tartar sauce" and it tasted like generic mayonnaise with some relish in it. Never stepping foot in here again and I recommend everybody else do the same. read more

A "hole in the wall" small business that's been around. I pass by this place occasionally and I love fish and chips, so I thought I'd finally try it for lunch. I tried the "Double Catch," one piece of fish and three jumbo shrimp with fries. It was made to order and came out piping hot and fresh. It tasted good. Nothing incredible, but satisfying. The fries were eh. The cocktail sauce of different. A bit of an Asian tinge but I can't quite place it. I really liked it tho and made the shrimp awesome. The owner is friendly. They serve some Asian dishes too, like orange chicken and beef broccoli. I'll try it next time because I'm definitely coming back. The only downside is no refillable soda. read more

Just go for the Fish, shrimp, scallop and chips. The fish is really great but the customer service is alright. Just be carefully about being overcharged. It happened to me quite a few times but the food is overall great. The fish is great and the tarter sauce. Place is clean in general not sticky floors. 3 stars but let me give you the break down. Service was great. Very friendly. Big smile and all. I ordered the 1 pc fish + Teriyaki plate. Fish was 10/10 but teriyaki was a 4/10 only because the sauce still was like warm and not hot enough. Fried rice was for sure was not fresh. I'm Asian and I know when rice is fresh. There were bits of rice that felt hard and the egg was browned. Like I know how long it takes to make fried rice and the amount that I received my food.. impossible. Only thing I could think of was that they have fried rice saved and refried it on the grill? Very disappointed in that but maybe next time I'll have to just stick to the fish and chips. Also, I asked for a water cup and the water is given in a very small cup and totally tastes like tap water :( But you can't judge a book by its cover. I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of fish and chips like Kendo is, but I do like a good fish and chip meal once in a while. I didn't expect this place to have British fish and chip quality, but I also didn't expect this. When I went into this little take out style shop, I was a little taken aback by the fried seafood as well as Chinese food on the menu. I just wanted a snack because I was actually going to the Fresh & Easy market next door and my blood sugar was low. I wasn't looking for a huge meal. I also didn't want 'chips' so he offered to give me fried zucchini instead. He also tries to upsell you by offering tartare sauce (which costs extra) or a drink or something else. If you don't want it, be firm. The tartare sauce isn't very good.... needs a lot more relish in it. I don't think this place is worth a visit even if you're right there and starving. There's a Henry's Burgers right there as well -- give that a try instead -- I definitely will next time I'm in the area and starving. read more

Upon arrival a charming man with a big smile ear to ear, he said "Hi I am Michael!" okay great! Give me a London and then I could not believe he can make "hush-puppies" well then lets add that too! Homemade tarter sauce! Yum! In it's organic form, its just a hole on the wall a true ma + pa operation. You can tell he loves his life! Just charming not old but quaint. You really do not see that combination to often. With the C19 we ordered for take-out. It was all to yummie! The menu hops around and he can also make some few Chinese dishes. That I will be returning to explore his other dishes. No I do not think you can dine in but in one point it appears like they used too. It is small and nothing fancy and no restrooms. Owner needs to be upfront about them. A sign works well. Some reviews complain over 1 to 2 quarters for sauce. These prices are cheap enough with all the inflation going around. My advice to owner - Since they're are frugally people walking about in public, make signs and have every price made public so you wouldn't get most of these bad reviews. I had to stop going here. Unfortunately the owner doesn't really speak English or understand customer service. He nickels and dimes his customer by charging for every little thing. The thing that set me over the edge was the fact his plates come with no sauce. You want tarter sauce for that plate you ordered? That'll be an extra .25 cents or .50 cents. Wtf just raise your prices by that much and include the sauces you ding dong. And when I tried to complain about it all he did was smile nod and say thank you very much lol read more

Michael's kitchen has such friendly service, and I'm not sure if I was dealing with Michael himself, but I was very pleasantly surprised. My friend and I had come in on a Friday, and there was no wait. The menu here is extensive. There's so much to choose from, but I ended up choosing the basic fish and chips. We waited about 20 minutes for the food to be prepared, which wasn't bad at all. The man threw in the tartar sauce for us, but forgot the ketchup, which was sorely missed, since I didn't have any available in the fridge. DO NOT RECOMMEND this place at all.. Been here twice and both times the experiences were just trash really. The first time: the prices were completely wrong, they lie to you about the base price and then they also tell you that you're going to get tartar sauce and ranch and Mount vinegar free with your order. Turns out you don't any charges for all of it. You pay a dollar for a big tartar sauce. That's probably only 1/4 full? He says he makes it himself and it's pretty obvious that he does because it's absolutely disgusting. Walmart brand tartar sauce is a thousand times better. The ranch comes in a thimble sized container that literally only covers three fries and they charge you for that. The malt vinegar, which I don't even know how you screw that up. He must have made himself too because it was absolutely disgusting and ruining the flavor of the meal. The fish was big but way way. Way too much oil to wear. It was almost that shiny translucent color and just tasted like oil. The fries tasted like oil too and they didn't put salt. 2nd time: I never usually judge a place by just one time unless it was absolutely absolutely absolutely miserable. Well now I know I can give the right review. This time I came prepared, brought my own tartar sauce, my own ranch, and my own malt vinegar. I asked them for it to not be cooked as long in the oil cuz last time it was so greasy and fried it tasted horrible. He said he would do it, and I don't know exactly what he did but not only when the fish came out. Was it completely different size from the first one? Like almost like he ran out and went to the Dollar tree in the same shopping center and bought the fish fillets there. They were extremely soggy and it's like he barely cooked them and then he dunked them one last time in the oil. It was just all wet. The fries came out completely limp and soggy with no salt on them whatsoever. I could have asked to just have them fried more but I just decided to deal with it because once I saw how crappy that fish looked and it was obviously store bought. I didn't even eat at the store at that point. I just asked for it to go bag and I mentioned the fish was store-bought and completely different from the other one and he decided to make up for it by giving me a cream cheese wonton that had like no cheese in it So yeah for the price that you pay and for what you get.. save your money. read more

I'd rather go here than Gordon Ramsey's fish and chips. The tartar sauce is huge for only .50 cents I dunno what people are complaining about lol.
