Everything was well organized and the turnout was pretty good. There were two groups, one for juniors and one for (young) adults, for fairness. Another thing I liked was that everyone got 3 extra packs instead of awarding it based on wins, given we're playing with pre-con decks + 4 packs that are all random. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, shout-out to Bryan (the general manager?) and the official judge for the event. Plus I had a great conversation with him and Michael(?) about MTG; they're definitely very passionate about board & card games. They have anti-scalping policies in place for Pokemon. As for the space itself, decent amount of parking (more in the back). They're very popular for Warhammer, so there's a ton of product for those who play, and several tables set-up with many people playing all afternoon next to us (the 'playing hall' is pretty large!). They also have an aisle with board games for sale, and a counter with TCG products. Restrooms are spacious and clean. All in all, The Forge is pretty much all you can ask for in a LGS; they're also independently owned! I wish I live closer, but I'll definitely be here again soon!

I went to Katy Rock Shop a few weeks ago and honestly left feeling pretty disappointed…read more I've been rockhounding for years and have attended multiple large mineral shows, so I'm very familiar with pricing and quality when it comes to certain minerals. A lot of the items in the shop felt way overpriced compared to what I've seen elsewhere. I also noticed a few minerals that appeared to be mislabeled. I can't say whether that was intentional or not, but it definitely caught my attention. Some of the fluorite they're selling is very low quality, especially for the price they're asking. I also looked at some of the citrine and it really looked like heat-treated amethyst that had been altered to resemble citrine. The color and appearance just didn't seem natural. If it's treated, that should be clearly disclosed. A friend of mine bought a 14-inch saw from them a while back and was told it had all the parts and was fully functional. It ended up being the worst saw he's ever purchased. The blade was unaligned and it needs a lot of work to get it running properly. For what he paid, that's pretty frustrating. On top of that, I didn't feel very comfortable in the store. I'm Hispanic, and I felt like I was being watched the entire time. Every time I turned a corner or knelt down to look at something, the cashier would reposition herself to keep me in view. It honestly made me feel like I was being suspected of stealing. I had also seen another review mentioning that staff weren't very polite, and unfortunately that matched my experience. Based on my visit, I wouldn't recommend this shop.

A lot of subject matter experts, if you will, that can help answer a lot of questions about the different games, strategies, painting/hobby tips. Employees: Nice, polite and come greet you but none of that pushy sales man. They are well informed about their product. Product: This store is definitely a destination store for Games Workshop, Magic the Gathering, Vallejo Paints and more. Even better these guys can order games in that they don't normally carry. Imagine having an event start at 10am, and you connect with the organizer 40 minutes in advance to tell them you'll be there 5-10 minutes before 10, and they say okay. Imagine arriving exactly when you said, and be told "sorry bro we started 10 minutes ago". So I ask for a bye for the first game, and am told "no those are the rules". It's an 8-person local tournament, not the World Team Championship, get over yourselves. Could have just said no up front and save me 90 minutes of driving. If you skip this place, you're not missing a thing.
