Michaels can be a hit or miss, but oh boy, I love when it hits. I recently stopped by to stock up on event essentials and some crafting supplies. Their Black Friday deals for holiday gear is the absolute best. Festive items are severely discounted, making it the best time of the year to shop for garland and ornaments. Grandma hobbies are also currently trending and Michaels has become our dealer. I've noticed that I'm picking up supplies/a new craft every weekend. Between clay building, hand stitching, sewing materials, it's so great to have a nearby one-stop-shop for all your artsy needs. Pro tip: search coupons in advance. I frequent this Michaels many times a year, but recently since Party City has shut down and Michael's is now doing balloons, I decided to come here the morning of my son's 1st bday party to get some balloons. We came around 11am 12/21 and there was no line. There were self checkouts and multiple people behind the counter. I walked up and asked for balloons, and was met with a very busy employee who told me I needed to wait in line. So I went back, but as people started lining up behind me, I had to repeatedly tell them to go ahead because I was waiting for balloons (specifically one counter/person). I was fed up with that, so I just walked all the way up and stood back. No one helped. The person waiting for balloons to be blown up had been standing there and the Michaels employee blowing up her balloons was doing one balloon, then walking away to help find an item, or help with the pick up orders, then coming back to blow up a single balloon, then rushing away again! In total, she finally bundled up the balloons (a total of 6) and went on her way. That was 20 minutes. Finally, my turn, the balloon lady leaves, and another comes and helps me. Another 1 hour and 10 minutes later, I leave with my 12 balloons. I can't believe how slow the service here is where 90% of customers are doing self checkout. WHAT?! Insanity. It's Christmas time, but the works are slow paced, with no urgency to keep up. Anyways, fast forward to rushing to get back to set up for my son's party... we have the party and by night time, the helium balloons are dragging on the floor, 15 hours later. So in summary, if you want balloons, you have to come the day of, probably wait a couple hours and then by the end of the day, your balloons will have fallen. read more

I told her I do not have my card as I have purchased multiple things from Micheal's with Apple Pay. She did not want to assist me any further so I left my items and went to my normal Micheal's. My review is strictly on the NON-interaction with anyone who works here. I came in and browsed their Halloween selections. Not every Michaels have the same thing and I have been to quite a few Michaels to finish my Halloween decor at work. This location offers enough varieties of items and the self check-outs are efficient enough for me. I tend to just look for things myself and hence the 4 stars.. I feel if I need something more complicated and start asking for help my feelings about my 4 stars might change! Lol. read more

I rarely take time to do a review on a business just for bad service. I was motivated to do that today. My wife and I frequent Michael's (for her) and stopped by today. I asked an associate Andie for information about a circut project. She was so rude and abrupt. And not helpful. I mentioned it to my wife but kept shopping. Later at checkout we had a great, kind, wonderful associate helping check us out but she couldn't find a price. She was searching for it on her little hand computer thing. After some time she asked a lady (wow, Andie again) how she could find it. Rudely to her Andie said you "you can go out and find it!" I said nicely I will go get the price. I think then Andie made some other rude comment a lady she was training. Her service and attitude were terrible. Just felt sharing might help someone readjust it. Love Michael's by the way. Today, I wasted 25 minutes of my time in this terrible store. I stood in line for 10 minutes (and there was no one else in line besides me), but the two elderly cashiers didn't react at all--they were as slow as turtles. I went to walk around the store, returned to the line, and stood there for another 15 minutes; the two women were still constantly busy with something or other. Wow, this used to be my $$$ store I do so many projects. I am a business owner and would never hire Roxann. Not sure if I have her name correct. I approached the cashier to check out. 3 ladies standing there. I asked who could help me?? Roxanne pointed to the self check-out. No smile, nothing, no welcome etc.... Stephanie stepped up offered to help me check out! Keep her!!! Business must be down with employees not taking an extra step to assist customers. Get rid of the self check out, those machines never work and your employees avoid working like the pelage. I had to just leave everything I was going to buy because not one thing came up the correct price and I would have had to sit the 30min to get rang up. However, I went in agin last weekend and it's every bit as disorganized and understocked as it was months ago. I feel bad for the customers and the cashiers there. Insufficient training, the staff didn't know what to do when there was a missing bar code! She had to call the manager to come to help. I was at Michaels this past Tuesday. After having terrific service in the framing department by eric who is a master framer by the way, I walked through the store and picked up some harvest/Halloween items that were on sale. I went up to the cashier line stood there and There was one female salesperson inflating a balloon and another several feet over by where the carts. The female inflating the balloon turned around, and I smiled and said "hi there can you help me?" She said "there is the self serve. " I said "I know, but would you please help me I have coupons. "And she responded "There is a self serve." Fortunately, the other female with the shopping carts came over and helped me and even asked me if I wanted the little glass item to be put in a bag. I happen to be a retired HR Director for international corporations, and I'm well aware of where the self-serve was. I was just trying to keep this female employee inflating the balloons her job that was all instead of being replaced by self service machine. Michaels is having a tough enough time, competition-wise just like JoAnne's closing their stores keeping up with a huge inventory and Customer service at Hobby lobby. Their product oozed out and I has oil paint all over my hands and clothes. They had no rags to wipe off with. Why did I get so messy? I cleck covering 4 self swrve registers and 2 full pay registers. They were callous and rude. It will take me hours to get the paint off the leather seats and steering wheelin my car. Horrible and easily preventable. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but this was just distasteful. Manager Jade at Huntington Beach Michaels on 12/08 refused to help on several occasions or encounters. With four carts of Christmas purchases, didn't care to be of service, and left me alone in the dark after closing, even forgetting some items. Luckily, plaza security stepped in, and another employee handled the checkout and rewards properly. Management like this makes it hard to want to return. read more

I rarely ever write reviews because most of the time, my experience in chain stores like this is a mediocre but acceptable average. However, had I known how awful the customer service here was going to be, I never would have come here. For starters, I was in the store for a whopping hour and a half and the entire time, I did not see a single employee on the floor. I had to check every section, only to return to the front desk and wait in the checkout line to get somebody to help me!! Not only this, but the employees at the front were blatantly ignoring customers who stood patiently for help and even those who tried to get their attention with a polite "excuse me!" There were four employees at the front--including the store manager, I found out--and somehow all of them were too preoccupied filling balloons to address the customers. (Psst, nobody had ordered balloons either, they were pre-filling them!) I get that you have a self-checkout line, and for somebody with social anxiety like myself, that's usually a great option for me. However, this store's layout was so confusing that I couldn't find anything on my own, and I was met with a horrible attitude when I asked for help. I don't know why, but there are three different paint sections scattered at opposite ends of the store so that it is anything but intuitive where to find them. Only the head manager knew which isle things were on, which is probably because none of the associates work the floor. You'd expect that to be the main task an employee would be focused on in a retail job, wouldn't you? First, they ignored me for as long as they could (until I went through the checkout line). Then, they groaned and gave me attitude when I asked for directions. Finally, the employee who was forced by the head manager to stop "filling up balloons" spent 15minutes slowly dragging their feet through the store before trying each and every key on the keychain to open up the spray paint section after I came back to the front a 3rd time, unable to find it! I cannot emphasize enough how horrible all of this made me feel, and I know I wasn't the only one because while waiting in line I watched the employees dismiss and belittle 5 different customers before and after me as well. Please, save your time and go elsewhere. I mean it!! Even if you have to drive 30min out of your way to go to a different Michaels store, DO IT. Go anywhere but here, seriously. This location needs to replace all of its current managers and employees with people who actually have empathy for other human beings. HORRIBLE! read more

This is the nearest Michaels to where my mum's cousin lives. I normally go to the one that is near my flat but when a need comes you got to do what you got to do. I must say the selection of items found here is amazing, whatever my family needs they got it. In terms of service, it is very cool. Employees here are very friendly and are always happy to help. You all are the real MVP here. I personally like the home decor stuff or home support items they have here. It does a great job of making my mum's cousin's house very gorgeous. You get what you paid for here. I have like no qualms with the price at this place. In terms of store size, it's a lot bigger than what I see in Northern California. I had two very rare movie posters and one very rare Marilyn Monroe print signed by the photographer framed here and it was well worth the money Isaac, Diane and Eric will all take very special care and time even for somebody as impatient as me. The sales are incredible sometimes if you just need poster frames you can get the buy one get two, or this month it's buy one get one free but custom framing is exceptionally well done here you might not think so because it's a large thing but they give you the individual care concern and craftsmanship that she would find in any privateer shop which makes this place incredibly valuable and a wonderful gift to the community. No one works in the custom frame department anymore. I went to the Costs Mesa location yesterday to have 3 custom frames made. I was told someone would be there in 20 minutes. I could not wait. Today, I drove to Hi ringtone Beach location. Again, no one was on duty. Both location s, I asked if I should call first to confirm someone would be there. Both time I was told that there is no need to call ahead. Someone is always there. Well both times I drove out of my way, there was no one there. I ordered 2 helluim tanks for a party via online for pick up and waited for them to be ready. I was also running other errands and was able to finish my errands and decided to pass by the store to pick up the helium tanks. 30min had passed since ordering so I figured it would be ready since it's literally 2 boxes.. Went to pick them up and they told me it could be 1-2 hours until ready.. for 2 boxes? Really? So I told the lady at the front, who was really nice, is there any way to expedite it? She said she would try and someone was working on it. I easily could have just grabbed the boxes myself from the shelf but didn't want to get charged twice so I kindly waited. While waiting I found the order sitting in a cart in the store.. I asked the kind lady at the front if I can grab them and she said I couldn't. She then tried to get the employee who was working on it to grab them because I was waiting for it and the kind lady got yelled at for trying to expedite my order.. that wasn't very nice or professional as there were customers around and I heard the whole interaction. Excellent service & system in place during the "Stay at Home" measure. I've got some projects to accomplish after being put on the back burner for years. 1- Order online. Note your order #! I took a screenshot. 2- Once the order is ready, a email confirmation is sent. AND INSTRUCTIONS on what to do for pickup! 3- Drive to the store & park. 4- Call the store. You'll get a Covid-19 spiel & then can opt to "speak to a representative." Give the representative your order # 5- The representative will put your order on a table outside of the store. You're instructed over the call to wait for her to go back in before you get your order. I abided but yelled my gratitude through the window. While waiting for my order, I witnessed a gentleman try to walk right in. The doors did not open & there was tons of instructions taped to the door. It wasn't until I got out to grab my order & he went over to grab it that I told him he needed to call the store. He even had the printed order & instructions! Pretty big and organized Michaels! They have great organized bins for clearance even! It's not perfect but they have ranges of a couple bucks and up, labeled and in a little corner with mostly clearance tag labeled items. There is a friendly young man cashier that sounds very southern. Great energy and so nice. Funny too. I like the tables they have for the Make Break activities. Small tables at the end of an aisle in a little clearing. Smart spot to put it. I also like the pin pads for the self checkout! You scan everything yourself and go. I had an issue because I was using a RETURN gift card and not a standard gift card so I had to go with the cashier anyway. No biggie. Scanning and even bagging my items (before I actually tried to pay) was very easy and you can see your little picture on the screen, from the camera. So cool! The one weird thing...is you can not see where Michaels is, due to the trees in the front! So Flippen weird because I'm unsure if it's due to the city ordinances, or it's overgrown due to staffing, or they're not allowed because of the property manager or what! But it is so weird. I'd never been to this Michaels so my map said I was arriving but I couldn't see where. Awkward. read more

The Huntington Beach Michaels used to be a great store for crafting supplies but not anymore. It will no longer be my go-to store for cardstock, crafts, etc. There is a minimum amount of cardstock without any real selection, pricing has increased, and the area is a mess. If you have a question about a product or locating an item, it's impossible to find someone to help. Forget customer service at the registers, there isn't any! You must use the self-checkout. I was in the store yesterday and since my purchase was only a couple of dollars I wanted to pay cash. I was told one of the self-checkouts accepted cash - however it wasn't working correctly, so I had to use a card. I asked the young woman why she couldn't process my purchase at a register and was told according to corporate only self-checkouts are to be used. She apologized but was only following her employer's rules. I have no problem using a self-checkout, they can be convenient however if I want to pay by cash and the "cash" checkout isn't working then an employee should be able to process the transaction at a register. From now on, I'll shop down the street where customer service and selections are a priority. read more

I really, really don't want to give them a bad review. They are one of very few craft stores around, and I love being able to touch and see things in person. This location maybe...4-5 years ago? Awesome. The last few years it took a nose dive. I avoided doing a review before now in the hopes they would have improved, but alas, they have not. There's still two slightly older gals working there who are amazing and always nice. Pros: They have craft stuff, need I say more? Cons: staff is pretty much always rude. Understaffed pretty much all the time The younger ones take ZERO pride in their appearance, and always look and act like angst-ridden teens who are bored with nearly every facet of life. Quite a few things out of stock (prior to Covid excuses btw) Carrying less and less of certain items If you dare ask a question, they either don't know and won't bother finding someone who does, or they are extremely rude in their response. Prices keep going up on floral and certain craft items. I've been to other Michael's and it seems to be a problem across the board, unfortunately. When you have places like Hobby Lobby, where most of the employees are wonderful, and they are always well stocked, (or Amazon and you don't have to leave the house or deal with shitty people at all?) why bother going to a craft store where the employees obviously can't be bothered to be nice and look presentable? I get dealing with rude customers can be trying on your patience, i do (I worked retail when I was younger, it sucks) but when that bad attitude is all the time it's obviously not just one bad day, it's the employee, and they shouldn't be working around people. Maybe a nice job in a cubicle filling out TPS reports would work out better? In short, their employees need to be fucking nicer and at least act like they enjoy working at a fun, creative craft store.
