Just the cutest little yarn shop in the most picturesque part of town. For such a small shop, it's packed to the brim with all kinds of yarns and accessories for the average knitting and crocheter. The staff is always super friendly and welcoming, and is always willing to lend a hand in regards to the selection and the craft. I have crocheted for a while but I wanted to learn how to knit so and I was so happy when I found this little yarn shop 2 months ago. Inside of the yarn shop, there are sofas and a large table which makes it a great place to knit and have a great time. Its fun to look around at sample projects displayed around the store for inspiration too. Candy offers knitting and crochet lessons which was the reason why I visited the store 1-2 times a week for the past 2 months. Each session is $12 and its 3 hours long. I usually went for the afternoon session from 2pm-5pm during the week but she has classes on Saturdays as well. I highly suggest you call ahead for the times because I think she changes the time for classes depending on the demand. Candy is very patient and VERY knowledgeable. She taught me how to knit using multiple techniques and how to read the patterns. I still amazes me how she is able to fix some mistakes that just look devastating. I highly recommend checking out this store. read more

This is an excellent yarn shop if you're looking for yarn to make blankets or baby items: plenty of good choices here for that. The customer service was genuinely friendly... which is very refreshing to experience at a yarn store. Great parking behind the shop, and the store has an entrance from there as well as from the street. The shop is long and narrow, and they've done great on utilizing their space. There's even a lounging area with couches. Personally, I go to yarn stores for the fancier yarns: hand-dyes, luxurious fibers, etc. That won't really be found here. They did have a couple options, but they were ultra pricey... so I had to pass. read more

Stitches in time is a cute and well stocked yarn store. I visited the other day, and found a friendly group of ladies sitting knitting together who were more than helpful to answer questions and offer advice. The yarn selection was pretty great and had a ton of colors for basic wool blend worsted weight yarn. And I found that their prices were more competitive than the other local yarn shop. And you get a 5% discount if you pay with cash. Always awesome. Parking lot is behind the store, so enter from the alley to access easy parking. read more

Quaint cute, been here twice. For a small store it has a great selection of yarns. What I love the most are the ladies sitting around knitting/crocheting. I am always seeking for local Yarn Stores. When I used the Yelp app, it recommended "Stitches in Time." I parked on the street, but they also have parking in back of the store. They have miscellaneous items displayed in the windows relating to knitting and crocheting. I arrived to the store around 4ish and they had a knitting class in session. They have a lovely sitting area where the classes are taught with several blankets on the sofas and sitting chairs. As you enter the store the right wall has various yarn selections. Most yarns were affordable They have a small finished project area with beautiful baby sweaters, baby blankets and scarves for sale. The back of the store has a wall with needles to get that project started or just the needed items to start a new one. Overall, great store. They also offer several classes. $10.00 per 3 hr class or prepay 3 visits for $27. A Kids/ "Mom and Me" Knitting and Crochet is also available. read more

This place is fantastic... A tiny little family run shop with a decent yarn selection. Everyone who I've met here was SO nice and genuine and willing to help me with any issues that I had with patterns or necessary yarn gauge conversion. The prices are decent, and I picked up some gorgeous red mohair for a new project, when I was only going in to get new needles. While, I didn't see an overwhelming stock of the fancy yarns, like Noro, or Rio de la Plata, or even any Malabrigo, there was still a wonderful and ample selection to choose from. read more

We have passed by this little store front for years and finally stopped in a few days ago to see what goes on here. We were happy to meet Candy (Owner) and she obliged my 9 year old daughter an impromptu first lesson. Candy is patient and professional. Decided that I needed a new hobby, and naturally this resulted in a decision to begin knitting. Looked around the LBC area, and only one place offered knitting classes (WHAT?! With all the hippies, not one beginning knitters group?). This one place charged far more than I was willing to pay to make yarn look like something that may remotely resemble clothing. Stitches in Time offered very reasonable classes; 3 for $30, I believe. There are quite a few days of the week where you can go and learn or get assistance. Candy, the owner and instructor, is wonderful. Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The location is small, but they offer all of the goods you may need to get started. The room looks like a combination of my grandma's house and a thrift store- warm and cozy. The hodge podge of knickknacks, yarn, example finished products, etc. If you plan to stay the whole time, which I did on my first visit, then bring snacks or a few bucks to pick something up at the bakery a couple doors down. Looking forward to my second visit. Hopefully this terrible scarf will be something to laugh at down the road. :) read more

Fantastic experience at this little homey yarn shop! First off the store is a little difficult to find, but when we called a friendly woman let us know to just pull around to the back and park behind the store (their awning is black above a single door with bells hanging from the door handle. Shop is a bit hard for more than one person to navigate through at a time but personally I love that feel, it's just like a comfortable attic filled with yarny treasures :). There are also dozens of inspirational samples hanging on the walls, over chairs and sofas, on hangars, just everywhere! I can tell that the shop owners have a passion for their craft. Everything was well organized by yarn weight, and the prices ranged from more expensive Noro yarns to affordable acrylic blends. They offer classes and they have a lovely table near the front window and comfy couch where 5 ladies were knitting and chatting when we came in. They have a whole wall full of notions like stitch markers, crochet hooks and knitting needles (both Addis and more affordable brands as well). They don't have a ton of the more popular yarn brands, but still a great selection of yarns to please the pickiest of shoppers. They also sell a neat assortment of hand salves and shawl pins as well, which I rarely see at yarn shops in SoCal. What impressed me most was their service. One of the employees (I forgot her name, I feel so bad!) was so sweet, she spent 10 minutes with my grandma helping her pick out the perfect yarn for her project and even gave her the bootie pattern to go with it. She was also very kind and understanding when I had to return later that day to exchange a ball for the correct dye lot, she even went right over to ensure I got the correct one! I'm sure I'll be back soon with my grandma for more yarn! read more

Beautiful shop and lots of natural light to appreciate the scrumptious colors. I had called earlier to ask about sock yarn and directions. Got great specific directions and found exactly what I needed. The three women who worked there were huddled in a discussion but greeted me warmly and one ( Anne Marie? ) helped me right away. I love it when there's a staff awareness/agreement to put the customer right at ease and turn attention to them rather than completing an internal conversation. I've visited too many shops where there was a cliquish arrogance among the staff which was so off-putting that I would rather drive to the "end of Long Beach" than to return, despite any inventory of equally stunning yarn. I'd feel comfortable coming back with questions and help. Anne Marie was so friendly, patient and knowledgeable, even mentioning the Sock Class that was going on in their "Annex" at that moment and the yarn event they were hosting the following weekend. Alamitos Bay is well worth the drive (45 min for me) and there are wonderful restaurants all along the way there and within a mile on second street! I will be back!! read more

I began the new 'love' in my life as a recommendation from a friend. I have been around knitting all my life because my mother and all my aunts were into knitting and crocheting. Back then I didn't care much about it. Since I found Stitches In Time I have stopped all other relaxing activities (reading magazines, cooking special meals, etc.) Stitches In Time is a great place. Candy is the instructor and has 30+ years of experience in the field and has a passion for their crafts. I even missed going while I was on a recent cruise :) Very friendly & helpful atmosphere where classes are held in a very comfortable setting of couches and lovely samples. The ladies that are in the classes are helpful also in making suggestions and encouraging 'newbies' to be patient! I am so happy I was introduced to Stitches In Time. This is a great shop to learn how to crochet or knit. I'm a crocheter, and recently learned from Candy how to knit. She sugessted a small, workable project (a washcloth), and she's great at explaining things! she's also helping me finish a crocheted, blanket, with granny-type squares.
