I never had a problem until I returned somethings with a cash receipt within the policy days. They want your Personal Information so they can hand it over to a company that sells all the information and or gets security breaches. Last time I checked the DMV tried to do this and laws were passed...are retailers above federal laws? Why does the FTC sue the party that was holding the information but not the retailer when there are breaches. Never Never give out your Drivers License ask the manager directly if your information is being sold or transfered to a nother party and if they answer IDK it is just our policy then they are selling it and putting your info that risks your identity and credit in the hands of who knows... BestBuy, Victoria's Secret, Foley's, Kohl's, BedBathBeyond, HalfPriceBooks, and now Michael's are putting you and your credit at risk for ID theft. These places are listed in a yahoo search as demanding your DL with a receipt. Marshall's TJMaxx had a major breach with DL info...why do companies still do this? read more

All these years of living inside the loop, one thing that was always a huge inconvenience to me was that the only Hobby Lobby is way out in Meyerland and it's closed on Sundays. I recently discovered this Michael's location and I am so relieved. From small DIY projects to gift wrapping supplies tp holiday decorations, I am now able to grab these last minute items nearby AND on Sundays. read more

Surprise! I do crafts a lot. Okay, that's a lie. But I make kandi bracelets out the wazoo for distribution among my fellow tranceheads. Michaels has a decent selection of pony beads and string. They also carry letter beads and various shapes (though, for kandi, I prefer to use buttons, It's much more unique). It's less expensive than Jo-Ann, but lacks the variety. Also...the smell of Michaels is enough to bring me back in there. It's the same smell in every store (and not that nasty Subway type where you cring when you walk in)...it smells like flowers and possibilities :) read more

It's your typical arts and crafts store with items to design and create your own jewelry, baking decorations, kids arts and crafts, scrap-booking, even framing for your favorite piece of art. On a whim, my friend asked if I wanted to do some paintings. So we stopped by Michaels. Well, lo and behold it was our lucky day! Canvases were 50% off!! I didn't know it going in, but painting was my new hobby when I left. I purchased quite a few different sized canvases, acrylic paints, and paint brushes. Almost everything was either 50% off, or buy one get one 50% off. I felt so accomplished.. and I hadn't even started painting yet =) Anyhow, we'll see how this goes! read more

I recently visited this Michaels location this past Saturday and I was pleased with my first visit here. When going in, me and the sis saw that it was busy. The long line that went around their checkout area definitely DID NOT make me miss my days as a cashier at a craft store lol But anyway, we made a quick trip around the store before making it to the jewelry aisle, which was my primary reason for coming here. Overall they have a decent selection of anything you could need craft wise. Side note, they already have their Halloween decorations out which were all soooooo pretty and unique, I just wanted to say "Shut up and take my money!" This is a smaller Michaels store, so the selection isn't that wide (nothing compared to the location on Bunker Hill & I-10) but it has what you need when you're feeling crafty. The jewelry aisle doesn't have anything to write home about but they had the beading wire that I LOVE and happened to be looking for on this day and I was happy to see that they had a 40% sale on their string beads. The employees were friendly as well. When we were browsing a nice female employee asked if we needed help and a second employee asked if I needed help while I was on my way to the ladies room. Very nice! The checkout process was a breeze. By the time we made it to the front, the line had gone down significantly and our cashier was really sweet. I had a coupon on my phone and she was happy to accept it with the code and even helped me sign up for their Michaels Rewards Program. If you're an avid crafter, make sure to sign up for this! You can do it in store and even register online to print out your member rewards card and have them scan it in store, or you can just give them your phone number at check out and they will find you. The store is easy to find if you're familiar with the area. Located at the corner of Weslayan and Bissonnet, it's in the same shopping center as Chuck E. Cheese and Ross. Overall, nice first visit and I will be back again whenever I'm in the area. read more

This is my first big hobby arts & crafts store to visit in Houston. Preparing for Halloween this year, we were told by Frankel's staff to head here or Hobby Lobby. Michael's was a lot closer and open til 8 pm on a Sunday, so that clinched the deal. As has been said, you get a lot of kitschy stuff here, but the selection they offer is pretty enormous. Inventory can be a bit sloppier than usual, though, but on the whole, this is a good place to go for craft needs. Not only that, the staff can be pretty nice: the cashier found us a coupon and used it on us, thus saving us money! Michael's is located on Bissonnet near Auden. Located beside a Ross and Blockbuster, and with a flagship Randall's nearby, I just might visit soon. read more

Every once in a while I get the urge to get my crafty on, and Michaels helps out with that. I have frequented here a lot these last couple of weeks to help with my Christmas gift making this year. They do carry a lot of stock in some catagories, ie silk flowers, wedding decor, picture framing; however, they are lacking in the stamped jewelry section. I know I know, it's a new trend, but it has been around for a while before the popularity struck. This place does a good job with framing requests, and the workers are very personable and seem happy to be there. However, there can be looooong waits to get help in the framing department (like 40 minutes of standing in line.) It's also a bit more expensive than Hobby Lobby but does have the distinct advantage of being open on Sundays! read more

This store (based on size) has a limited selection of the more specialized items like fabrics and quilting supplies, etc. However, there is a solid selection around the holidays for the staples like wreaths, ornaments, etc. In the past, I have experienced completely inappropriate customer service issues but it seems that they have worked those issues out. The other day when I was there, I asked an employee a question and she was everything you wanted: courteous, knowledgeable and attentive. The pricing is fair for most items and they normally have a coupon so be on the lookout for them in your Sunday paper or at the store. read more

This store can get crowded on the weekends especially around the holidays but there's always staff and the line goes by pretty fast. There's also plenty of parking. Usually well stocked. I was just at the Michael's at 3904 Bissonnet St HOUSTON, TX 77005. The MOD named Cheryl was incredibly rude to my wife. She had come in to return a matte and didn't have her ID. I was browsing the store and they wouldn't let her come find me or even page me. I found her waiting outside in 40 degree weather because Cheryl wouldn't let her wait for me inside. When I came in to return the matte and talk to the MOD, all I got from Cheryl was "I'm not a cashier." Neither her or the clerk who did the return would tell me if the store manager would be in the next day. Needless to say, I will not only NOT be shopping at Michael's, but I will be letting everyone know about this lousy experience. read more

Then whenever (due to unforeseen circumstances) I needed to return my items one employee found my old receipt! She even checked her trash can. Despite the fact I totally made the mistake all the employees trying to help were super nice and respectful and helpful. I've visited this store several times over the past few months and wanted to share a few observations. First, in general: this place is seemingly always busy. Every time I go in, there is a winding line leading up to the cash registers. I'm not sure if it is woefully understaffed or the crowds are simply that large, but I've learned to not come here and expect a quick in-and-out visit. The second is specific to the framing department, located in the back corner of the store. I came in with an odd-sized poster frame (IKEA, of course - how else could there ever be something with such strange dimensions?) and purchased a custom matte piece with four cut outs to display four small map pieces within the same large frame. - THE COST I don't know the dimensions of my project off the top of my head, but I believe they were over the standard of 24 x 36. When you buy a matte, you pay for the overall size of the matte, and then you pay for each cutout in to the matte - so my project was the sum of the matte + four cutouts + tax, naturally. In total, using a pure white matte, my project came to just under $100. This felt expensive to me, but I fully admit to not having a basis for comparison. With this knowledge, I now feel better prepared for future projects. - THE LINES/CROWDS My general note above about lines? Ditto for the framing department...but worse. The Saturday afternoon I dropped off my project, I waited for about 10 minutes for service. It took the technician a solid 30 minutes to work with me, during which time a line of 5-8 other people had accumulated behind me. It seemed like a pretty obvious combination of the department being understaffed (they are only equipped with enough space to help two customers/projects at one time, so that might be part of the issue) and the service being a bit slow. They actually use an automated software to address many projects, so there are a lot of things that just involve some key strokes on a computer - for example, when the technician inputted my project's overall dimensions and the size of the four cutouts, the computer essentially does the rest (placing the cutouts, giving the measurements for all remaining parts of the matte, etc.). I also saw, across several visits here, technicians spending time watching customers waffle about the virtues of various framing options. Perhaps it would be best to keep dedicated staff for framing services vs. framing...chit chat? Interestingly, though, while I was waiting for my tech to finish my estimate, I met a woman in line behind me who took her custom matte home only to realize the measurements were grossly off from what they should have been. I'm so glad I met this woman and she planted a seed of caution in my mind, because... - THE ERRORS ...my project came out incorrectly cut! First, I wasn't called to be told the project was ready, which is store protocol (they say so when you drop off your order) - so I had to call them and confirm it was done after the deadline had passed and I hadn't heard from them. I didn't care where/how the four cutouts were going to be configured in the matte, but I did request in no uncertain terms that the spacing between the cutouts and the edges of the frame all be equal (so left gutter = right gutter, top gutter = bottom gutter), creating a symmetrical experience. The result of my first matte was such that the right gutter was a little more than a quarter of an inch wider than the left gutter, meaning my entire project was misaligned to the left. The good news is that I measured it before I left the store. The techs were also very pleasant to work with - nobody questioned my need to have it all centered, or challenged my request to have the work redone. They set right about redoing the work on the computer to request a new matte. I returned two weeks later to pick up my project. Once again, I was not called in advanced to let me know it was complete - I had to call. Whoever picked up told me it was ready. When I showed up, they apparently realized that not only was it not ready - it had never even been ordered/sent out to be fixed! The department manager stepped in to make sure it was being taken care of, and even promised me a 50% discount (though I had already paid - this would need to be a refund later on). A week and a half later, I was called (finally!) and told it was ready. My third trip in to pick it up, all was finally well...finally. All measurements lined up and I was, as promised, issued a 50% refund to my credit card. Again, the staff was super friendly and accommodating. - THE WAIT TIME At least when I went to have this work done, there was a 2 week lag between dropping a project off and getting it back. The mattes are cut by a machine offsite. But this also means that, with redoing the work, I spent six weeks waiting for the correct result. Just be prepared when using Michael's that there doesn't appear to be any sort of quick turn around option. read more

When trying to make a return, the manager made the transaction a completely unnecessary hassle, making up false policies about needing the physical receipt when Michaels now accepts bar-codes on smart phones and makes returns without any receipts with store cards. The manager was very disrespectful. read more
