I came by to pick up a package (UPS access) and encountered 2 employees lacking in the customer service and common sense department. The first cashier that helped me may have a disability and will need retraining on how to properly look at someone's driver license and perhaps, ask for help instead of telling me that package did not arrived and that I need to take it up to UPS to deal with. She repeated herself 3 more times, so I told her that I've encountered this before and I will not be turned away this time because I know my package is there (received 2 email confirmation). Finally, an older lady steps in. I explained the situation to this older lady and she goes to the locker and asked me to verify my address. I literally broadcasted my address to her in front of the stores..AGAIN, why not ask for my driver license?? Anyways, she found it and said it's under the name "quarter". I looked at it and explained to her that it was part of my address and pointed to 2 other spots that states: "SHIP TO:" with my first and last name, but she refuses to listen and keeps repeating herself. I told her that I didn't want to argue and to hurry up and hand me my package. At this point, this old lady is antagonizing me by taking her time and repeating "have a nice day" louder and louder as I am walking out the store. This is childish. These employees needs to be reminded on how to verify someone's identity before handing off a package. It would also be beneficial to exhaust other options (ie. So I recently purchased a sewing machine it was a singer . Mind you the didn't mention it was always returned. Well I purchased it and when I finally had time to unbox it my boyfriend mentioned their was coffee on it . Which I ignored because I thought maybe the box was dirty . I pulled the sewing machine out and the bobbin was completely removed thread all over the inside of the machine coffee and food was on the machine . Just gross . I've been coming here for years now and I already know this store has a reputation of bad customer service and I normally just ignore the employees who work here and get what I need. I went last night around 8:30 to buy a few things with my sister. I was helped out at the register almost immediately since the line was so short, and the cashier was so unprofessional and was TEXTING in front of my sister and I. The store itself is very nice as supplies are put in their correct spots and are not dropped on the floor which is why I am rating this store a 2 star. The employees however seem to lack common sense. Michaels now has 2 self checkout kiosks that only accept card and one person was at the cash register at the time of my visit. The line kept getting longer and longer & another employee just shouted at us in line to use the checkout kiosk if we are paying with a card as they walked passed us clearly seeing the long line and one cashier. Sadly, I had a return so I could not use the kiosk and the poor lady at the cash register called for backup but no one came to help when I clearly saw many employees walking back & forth also seeing how long the line was becoming. I am disappointed in the lack of common sense employees have to help out their fellow co-workers. My visit took a 20 minute wait in line for a less than 5 minute return. read more

I made an online order because it is supposed to make my life easier. When I placed the order the night before, the website assured me the item I wanted was in stock. Today around noon I realized I still did not have an email confirmation for pickup so I called the store to check in on my order. As soon as they answered they placed me on hold for over 5 minutes, when they eventually came around they could not find my order anywhere. So I checked my credit card statement to see if the order went through. It did and I was charged for it. I was confused and wondered if their system had crashed. So the young lady unable to help me transferred me to her manager to get my situation sorted and was on hold once more for over 5 minutes again. Eventually when the manager finally got on the phone he was able to find my order which was cancelled for not having the color I wanted. I would have been clueless if I had not called because I didn't even get an email or any sort of notice letting me know my ordered had been cancelled. When I asked if they could transfer my order to another location so I can receive my item today (standard is about three hours to receive your purchase after order) they said they could not help out. Now I cannot order another item because I do not have enough funds in my account to order it once more and will not have my refund until tomorrow. I will have to show up to the birthday party empty handed because the system at Michaels was not able to fix an issue it had created. This is unacceptable! i definitely do not recommend online order at this location. read more

Polite and helpful Staff. The store is huge, well organized and very clean. I was able to find gave painting supplies within minutes with the help of the staff. One of the best Michaels I have been to and believe me I have been to quite a few. They always have what I am looking for, and the coupons are awesome. The only draw back is the line, granted they go pretty fast for the most part, but can me long at times. Peak hours I've notice seems to be around lunch time so from about 11:30 am to 1 pm. I had an unfortunate experience here. I had to use the restroom and the cashier told me it was out of order. I asked to speak with the manager who told me, "we are closing in almost 1/2 hr and it is dirty". I said, " can I use it anyway and judge for myself?" And she said, "no, there is pee all over the floor". I left. I called the online customer service number n told them what happened... The service at this location is bad, no greet, everyone is involved in there tasks on the sales floor and not helping customers. Management is rude. I went to this store 1 Associate told me they allow items to be placed on hold while the manager an older woman who looks like Mrs. clause was rude with her tone and message about policy and holiday hours. I watched as guests walked in minutes before the store was scheduled to close but no sign was posted with holiday hours. She continued to be rude as guest wanted to come in and shop. I refuse to shop at this location. South Gate, Lakewood and Whittier offers better service. read more

I drop by Michael's a few times each week. I love it, they have everything I need, and I know exactly where to locate it. The only reason I can only give them 3 stars is because of the line. There is always a very, very large line each time I go. This morning I ran in to grab some yarn, and I waited in line for close to 20 minutes. I heard from one of the cashiers that the store has been cutting hours, and that was contributing to the long lines. This place is always busy, They really need to do something about this. This Michael's has moved things around so basic crafting items are all over the store and even their employees don't know where things are. Example: all the wood crafting used to be together, now they're in three different places, opposite sides of store. Their prices are higher than the other chains and half the stuff in the store is exempt from coupons as an "everyday value". I love me some Michaels. My oldest son is an artist, so you can imagine his affinity for this place. I came here to do my final Christmas shopping and was not disappointed. They had just dropped a nice 30% off coupon and had some great deals so between the two, I saved a nice chunk of change. They had almost all the registers open and the cashiers were super friendly. I ordered online to pick up. There was nobody in the pickup area, however there is a button to press to get service. When you press the button a light comes on to indicate someone is on the way. The first time I pressed the button, the light stayed on for awhile. When it went off, but no one had shown up to help me, I pressed it again. I ended up pressing it 5 times, but nobody came. I waited a total of about 15 mins. I think someone kept turning the light off remotely, because after the first time, the light would turn off pretty quickly. Service is horrible. read more

This place is just way overpriced. I absolutely love all of their arts and crafts but man do they want to get the most out of you. Some things are reasonably priced and there are things you can get that are non expensive but most of their things you can find for a lot cheaper at another artsy store. I would give lower but couldn't. My husband went in this morning. He asked for origami paper. The clerk glanced at the shelf and said, we don't have it. He said, oh yes you must. Guess what. They had it. The clerk was too lazy to look. Next he went to checkout. 5 people in line, one clerk. He almost walked out but had already invested 15 minutes of his time. I have walked out many times and left items from the Downey location. I've also asked for more clerks and they just look at me blankly. Overall I'm satisfied as a customer whenever I go in. I always go to buy one thing and come out buying 5 other things. The employees are super friendly! Once I had the coupon on my phone and when I placed it down my phone died but the employee gave me the discount anyway. I have noticed that this store doesn't carry things that other Michael's stores carry. I've been to others in La Mirada and South Gate and I always see new and different things.
