was there yesterday at a time that wasn't very busy. I waited in line, but the available cashier saw me and walked away (there was another cashier). I still waited in line but the other cashier's customer had to decide/debate every item in her cart. After a few minutes I decided to leave, and was startled by an extremely loud laugh by the disappearing cashier who was in a corner, responding to something her boyfriend just texted her. Very rude and absolutely no concern for customer service other than to look busy while doing nothing. I love the store and shop frequently but this isn't the first time. Will drive the extra few miles to the Lakewood store in the future. read more

Just had the most HORRID experience here ever. I've been coming to this store for years but will never go back to this location. My significant other rode his bike to the store, which he often does, and put his bike in front of the store, no lock. We are honest folk here in Downey and he's never had a problem in all these years. He was paged to the front of the store (they paged the owner a bike to the front) and he was going to pay for his products, but there was a line so he went to the cashier and asked why they paged the owner of the bike. He was told to speak to the Manager (who we have confirmed as Matt). Matt then proceeded to ask him in an agressive manner why he had leaned his bike against the glass. There was no tact in how he addressed my significant other. At this point my significant other noticed his bike was missing and asked where it was. Matt said he physically put his hands on the bike and moved in to the next store, doing a disservice to that store. So the my signification other took the bike back, put it on it's kickstand and proceeded to walk back in to pay for the products he was going to purchase. So the Matt, the manager saw him come back in and went out to put hands on his bike again, and my significant other told him to not touch his bike. At this point, Matt told him to get out of "his" store. We have been LONG time customers of Michaels, we are full time artists, and I even blog about buying all my products there. We will never go back to this location, and I will try and buy my products online as to not give this company anymore of my money. Having experience in management there is a way to treat and deal with customers, and this is not it. Especially over the clients personal belongings. I did call the store and spoke to Julian who was very accommodating, but I don't want to risk having to see Matt the manager and feeling awkward, or threatened that he'll kick me out of "his" store as well. Every single employee I encountered had a really bad attitude and was so rude to my mother. They had things placed in the wrong place and I had to fight for them to honor that price and finally the cashier got upset and said "omg fine give it to me I'll just do it" I'm the customer, how could she talk to me like that over 1 dollar? Michaels worst place in the world to go to for anything you could possibly need. I would love to get an invitation from them. However, they do not place any orders over the phone, internet, or any other way. You actually have to go to each and every store looking for whatever, it is you might need. They suck, and the customer service sucks too. read more

Refuse to follow their own coupon policy. Only gave it two stars because the cashier ended up giving me a coupon after showing her their policy which is stated on their website. Maybe they need to be retrained or something because they did not know what was going on. read more

The michaels in Downey, Ca had a very rude 40 year old hispanic cashier who got mad at me for not having my coupon ready on my iPhone telling me I was keeping up the line. When I tried to explain it was because my internet was very slow in the store and that I had been trying for as long as I had been in line (4-5 min) she rudely and sarcastically responded "that is funny because we have wifi" ...I asked her how long she had worked there and she replied "9 years" how is that possible that michaels has a 40 year old woman who has worked there 9 years and lacks customer service skills, kindness and professionalism???? I ordered two 6 ft. nutcrakers online for store pick up on Thanksgiving evening. Due to Black Friday sales, it took longer for the store to receive my order. I received a call today around 2:30 pm informing me my order was ready for pick up (no email confirmation yet). I asked if my items were in a box or if they were the 2 nutcrackers outside on display, and was told they were the display items. When my husband arrived to pick up my order, he was told only 1 nutcracker was available. He spoke to the manager, who informed him that an online order received before mine was for the same item and they fulfilled that order first (in order it was received). Why wasn't I told only 1 item was available when they called? I needed a pair, and was expecting to pick up a pair. Instead, my husband was told, "Sorry, this is all we have." No one offered to check other stores. After seeing how unhelpful the staff at this Michael's store was, we decided to cancel that order. I received email confirmation to pick up my item at 530 pm, the same time i received cancelation confirmation. I called around other stores until I finally found 2 nutcrackers at the Fullerton store. Unfortunately the 30% off coupon was only valid yesterday. We ended up ordering online for store pick up at Fullerton. The staff there was amazing and extremely helpful. With Michaels Arts & Crafts, in general for me, it's a love and hate relationship. You have a handful of knowledgeable and friendly staff, and then some that are ignorant and definitely could use training in their customer service skills. I've noticed that during the holidays, when they beef up their staff for floor sales and service, that that is the time when they bring lousy employees. But since it is one of the only Arts and Crafts stores in the area, I can't complain. Their products, such as their heavy weight papers often are creases and or damages, their canvas frames sometimes are damaged or bent due to bone-head customers who don't know how to handle the products or have no business there, other than treat the store as their entertainment day-care center and let their kids run buck wild, their restrooms are most of the time kept locked, and when, and if they do let you in they are most of the time unkempt. But for the most part, again, it is a love and hate relationship. The Michaels website, don't get me started on that...sucks, and some of the products they claim to have on their website are not at the store...but anyways, it is what it is. For those employees that go above and beyond to provide good service, thank you. To the others, "You seriously need to go elsewhere, get trained, and or simply do everyone a favor and quit. There is no reason why the customers are to be treated less for your personal "issues," whatever they maybe or are going through. Enough rambling, thanks. read more

Been going to this michaels for as long as I can remember but just recently we encountered a problem on which for the first time we had to return an item with out a receipt "not our first time" and the manager "harlen I think his name was" was not able to help me or my wife out with our return or even an exchange of our recent purchase of items for my wife's baby shower. Manager said that it is at HIS discretion if he wanted to do the return or exchange. Mind you we did forget the receipt, but even their policy states that within 90days we would be given a rate at the lowest for the items return. But the manager still refused. So now I got a pregnant wife that is due any day to give birth and we are both extremely upset with the lack of compassion of the manager and the customer service of this Michael's location. I hope something is done cause for the first time me and my wife really feel helpless with this experience. I'll make sure that people steer clear of this place. read more

Worst customer service ever. The sales associate was okay but the manger "steph" was absolutely rude, unprofessional, and unaccomdating. He really should learn some customer service skills. Went in to return an item with a receipt and he said that he can't take, however the manner in which he was speaking was just revolting. I don't know how he got to be a manger as his poor customer service skills will have the company lose so much business. I, for one, will NOT be returing to this Micheals ever again. Next to that store is always a mess, BROKEN items are being sold on sale to public, long lines, and the store feels like a maze when you're trying to find something as there is seriously no one to ask help from. I was not please with the customer service that me and my husband got from the store especially from the store manager. My husband was feeling ill to his stomach and needed to use the restroom right away he went to the restroom and they were lock with one of those siphon lock. It took us 10mins to locate somebody to open to door, which was the store manager. My husband ask to use the restroom and the store manager told him you have to wait I'm done with his customer. My husband feeling ill couldn't wait raised his voice demanding to use the restroom right away. The store manager final did open the restroom and then told my husband to leave the store afterwards. I talk to the store manager telling him he was rude and he could of excuse himself for a minture to open the door. He tells he didn't have to and that he was going to call the police on him. I can't believe how rude and an idiot he was like I said he could of just excuse himself politely to the customer to open the restroom which takes about a minute. I would not recommend going to this store anymore especially not realizing he was rude to two active military. read more
