Felt very uncomfortable walking around this store. At the time I was there I noticed a young female employee and a young male employee with curly hair kept following me and asking me what I was looking at (not asking if I needed help finding something), just simply approaching me to let me know they had their eye on me. I went into the store for perler beads and proceeded to peruse the isles incase something else caught my eye however, the negative interaction and stereotyping definitely made me feel uncomfortable. After the repeated negative interactions I started to question why they were specifically targeting me and I noticed I was the only Hispanic shopper at the time. Will never shop at this store again. I made a purchase to be picked up curbside. Their website says curbside service is available until 6 pm. At 5 pm their website then said curbside service was closed but the store is open until 9 pm so you can still go inside the store to pick up a online order. I get to the store at 6 pm and there's a giant line of people and paper covering all the windows/doors. We could see between the window coverings there were 6 employees standing around...so strange. We tried calling the store to see if they had closed early for some reason and we could physically see employees hanging out our calls. Finally an employee screamed through the door that they were closed until 7:30 pm....none of this makes sense. Figure it out michaels. read more

This place is horrible. The customer service they provide sucks. The only helpful employee that they have is the guy he knows where everything is and actually takes you to the product. They're not helpful at all. Ask them for an item and they either stumble for words and stare at you letting you know that they don't know Or They point you in a direction of the store (which is always wrong) and then disappear. I asked a rep for help she didn't fully answer my question, gave me wrong Info and went back to stacking. (Btw I wasn't even done talking to her) I ended up just leaving. My go-to store for crafts and supplies. Customer service is usually amazing. My last visit wasn't so amazing. Unfortunately, SAMANTHA the cashier was EXTREMELY RUDE. She seemed bothered and annoyed that I asked her questions. The price wasn't on one of the items that I was purchasing and her reaction was to grunt make a horrible sigh. Making me feel uncomfortable like i did something wrong. I am very disappointed because like I said this has always been my go-to store. Besides Samantha everyone is amazing. Super friendly and helpful. They always have exactly what I need. I would like to continue to shop at this location but I honestly hope that something gets done. I really enjoy coming to Michaels. The employees are very friendly. There is a good selection in all categories. I can always find what I am looking for, for any project we are doing at home. My favorite sections are the scrap booking section and the the paint brush section. They are also have a good selection of yarn for sewing. Plus it's always pretty organized. The other thing I like is that they always have sales and specials at the front of the store. The only bad thing is that there is always a line to pay. There is always only one or two cashiers. Wow! I love this location! It is very rare for me to be anywhere near Downey, but I will visit more often to come to this Michael's. I stopped by for cake supplies and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a lot to choose from. The people who work here are not very helpful, either they point you in the wrong direction as to where the item is or they act like they can't be bothered. Such as the time I was looking for a small fake tree that their flyer stated was on sale, which I couldn't locate. The employee I asked told me to look at the boxes I'm sure you'll find one! Grrrr Recently, when looking at some ornaments I noticed on the side of eye that an employee had come along with a latter type item on wheels and just stood next to me. Lately this store has been ok but so many disappointments. First off! Bathrooms are disgusting!!!!! Not only all the bathrooms where all filthy but no toilet paper, no seat covers, no soap, and to top it off.... no paper towels!!!! One had poop all over it, the other one all bloody stained! It's not the first time. Also, there is a lot of problems with coupons. At times they allow two transactions, but if in a bad mood? They only can do one. They will roll their eyes and act mean. I love going to Michael's to get items for projects I'm working on and it's even better when I have a coupon. -the lines can sometimes be long but they move quick -this was my go to store when getting ready for my wedding -this is my go to store when working on something and come out with other items that I did not plan on buying when first entering the store I do hate going to the store when classes let out -it's very difficult to be in the baking/candy section when all the students are out buying their class items because they tend to stand in front of the items they are getting, block the whole section, ignore your "excuse me" in Spanish & English, and continue their conversation about things they need for the class as you are trying to maneuver around them to pick up a simple item I am a fan, I just need to check when classes are out so I can avoid this time to shop. Which is fine it happens, but she did not apologize or pick it up instead she started laughing, after I picked it up she didn't even say thank you. I hate this location!!! I live in Downey but I would honestly rather drive 20-30 minutes to lakewood to their location because it is sooo much better. Long beach town center is also much better. This store generally has long lines, sometimes has incorrect signage, almost always has ugly custom-made creations because their floral designer is sub par, and the cashiers honestly want to look for any way possible to deny you the right to use a coupon. The store also NEVER has reception so that cell phone coupon option is only available if you pull your coupon up on your phone before you enter the parking lot. This location needs a new store manager, better trained staff and cell phone reception blockers need to be removed or just do away with the coupons period if they don't want you to use them!! read more

I just hate having to go to Michael's. it is almost impossible to find an employee to help you. It seems like no one works there at times. I am so surprised that a major chain store has so little respect for their customers. When you do finally get an employees attention, they are already helping three other people. They need to add at least three more employees per shift just for customer service. This happens every time that I go there. Last time I was there I was walking around the store for ten minutes with a stapler in my hand looking for the staples. When I finally found some help I was informed they they didn't sell the staples for that stapler. read more

The store itself is very nice as supplies are put in their correct spots and are not dropped on the floor which is why I am rating this store a 2 star. The employees however seem to lack common sense. Michaels now has 2 self checkout kiosks that only accept card and one person was at the cash register at the time of my visit. The line kept getting longer and longer & another employee just shouted at us in line to use the checkout kiosk if we are paying with a card as they walked passed us clearly seeing the long line and one cashier. Sadly, I had a return so I could not use the kiosk and the poor lady at the cash register called for backup but no one came to help when I clearly saw many employees walking back & forth also seeing how long the line was becoming. I am disappointed in the lack of common sense employees have to help out their fellow co-workers. My visit took a 20 minute wait in line for a less than 5 minute return. read more
