Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. Months later, I had a prolonged and frustrating experience trying to complete a routine dental cleaning at this office. Appointments were repeatedly scheduled and canceled after I had already arrived at the office because of preventable issues, including discomfort during treatment setup, cold air blowing directly on me, a chair position that caused gagging, a hygienist I perceived as condescending and dismissive, unexpectedly time-consuming x-rays during a routine cleaning appointment that caused the appointment to be rescheduled, and ongoing confusion about insurance coverage. The insurance issue was handled poorly. I repeatedly received conflicting information from both the office and my insurance provider regarding in-network status and spent months following up with calls, texts, and emails to clarify basic eligibility and coverage. After the in-network question had supposedly been resolved and my routine appointment was scheduled again, I arrived only to be informed that the office was actually out-of-network and the visit would be self-pay. Then, when the office manager again stated that the visit could proceed, I was informed there would be an additional $60 out-of-pocket charge for a hygienist assistant, without a clear explanation for why this was necessary. Communication was inconsistent, sometimes with weeks between calls, texts, and emails, and the overall approach felt reactive rather than organized or patient-focused. There was no real sense of accountability from either the office or the insurance provider regarding the repeated scheduling failures: no apology for the three appointments I showed up for that did not take place, no resolution of the ongoing coverage confusion (ultimately caused by an incorrect tax identification number on the part of the dental office), and no recognition of the significant time I had invested in resolving an issue that was not caused by me. After multiple failed attempts to complete a routine cleaning, I agreed with the office manager to discontinue care at Dental On Central and will seek care elsewhere.

Since he has left, the practice has changed drastically. Although there is new technology, it seems they care more about money and upselling (tooth brushes, waterpiks, etc.) than their patients. I used to know everyone in the office and they actually took the time to get to know you. Now, it's like they rush through appts and try to get you out as fast as possible (which can be nice, but when did places become all about financial gain). I had to cancel an upcoming appt due to a family emergency and even tho I gave over 24 hours notice, since I didn't give 48 hours they said they are charging me a $60 fee. I can't even tell you the amount of times I had to wait because they were "running behind" or "short staffed" but apparently my time isn't as valuable because I'm unable to charge them a fee for making me wait. Welp, that cancellation fee was the final straw for me. They can get their fee and lose a patient who has gone there for years because I value customer service, understanding, and empathy over their advanced technology and lack of customer care. UPDATE to response: I called your practice with tears rolling down my face as I had just received bad news but wanted to call to give you notice as soon as possible that I wouldn't be able to make my appointment. There was zero concern or compassion from Jenny (I believe that was her name) just a monotone "there's a $60 cancellation fee for less than 24 hours notice, oh I meant less than 48 hour notice." Meanwhile I'm choking back tears all while trying to be considerate of YOUR time. So no, I don't believe your office offers compassion or empathy. I did receive your one voicemail attempt to talk to me about my review. Again, my time is just as valuable and while you "attempt" to not run behind schedule, I also attempted to give you notice of my emergency and not being able to make the appt yet you feel the need to charge me and unfortunately I cannot do the same. There's no need to contact me further, I will not be returning nor will I recommend. I hope this office can return to what it once was when it comes to patient care and real compassion.

If you have dental anxiety this is the office you need! The environment is calm and homey. They go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and at ease. Then there is Dr B! Dr B is so amazing! He has a wonderful sense of humor that makes the entire office a joyful environment and greatly reduces the anxiety of a dental visit. I had to have dentures placed and he was so gentle and did such an amazing job surgically that my recovery was unbelievably quick and not nearly as painful as I had anticipated. He had to remove all my remaining teeth due to a medication I was on for 6 months that caused my teeth to become brittle and break at the gum line. I did not have one bruise, or even the slightest swelling. He is THAT GENTLE and is truly exceptional in his technique. I will always recommend this wonderful amazing dental group. I was a mess emotionally and physically as I was dealing with infection and teeth broken. They were kind, compassionate, listened and gave me hope and the best dental experience I have ever had. Jeannie and Melissa are our hygienists and not only do we know our teeth are going to sparkle when we leave, we always learn something from them. We love connecting with them and they have really nestled their way into our hearts. I recently learned that many of the techs are contractors who float between offices. Building trust with a consistent care team is very important to me, especially since I've had bad experiences in the past. I specifically scheduled a procedure with a dentist I liked during my cleaning, only to arrive at my appointment and find an unknown dentist assigned to do the work with zero notice. This lack of consistency is clearly affecting their administrative accuracy as well. During my last visit, the reception told me I was there for a cavity filling, which was incorrect. Furthermore, they asked why I was "refusing" a night guard, even though I already own one that I purchased from THIS office years ago. It is unacceptable to feel like a stranger at your own dentist's office after five years. Unfortunately, my trust in this office has completely eroded. If you value seeing a consistent provider who actually knows your dental history, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Healing dentistry has NOT sent me itemized bill or final notices via mail or email. One charge to my insurance was for cancer oral screening, which by the way should come standard during a cleaning, which my current dentist by the way does. My mental health and credit score is greater than $200. I originally came here after another dentist told me I had cavities and pushed drilling, which I wasn't comfortable with. At my first visit, after X-rays and a full exam, I was told I had zero cavities. Fast forward to my most recent visit after new X-rays, I was suddenly told I now have multiple cavities, including one in the exact same spot the previous dentist had identified the same one this office previously said was not a cavity. That's not a small oversight. When I said I wanted to try addressing things naturally, the response felt dismissive. The dentist literally turned her head away from me so I couldn't see her face. Instead of a conversation, I got a treatment plan with thousands of dollars in fillings and no real discussion of alternatives. For a practice that calls itself "healing," there was no guidance on remineralization, no discussion of internal or lifestyle factors, Minimal education, despite recommending nano hydroxyapatite products. I was given things like MI paste with no idea what it really was or how to use it. Instructions were vague. It's very surprising that this is a dental school. I have no idea what the source of this product is. As someone who always reads labels, the source of a product is important to me. A lot of hydroxyapatite is synthetic. This dentistry calling itself "healing" felt like branding, not philosophy. Also, some of the interactions with staff were concerning. When I paying for $300+ whitening trays the receptionist told me I would need to repurchase whitening trays again soon because of "germs," which honestly sounded like a sales tactic, not science. We're constantly exposed to bacteria that explanation didn't make sense and came off as trying to upsell. I was also asked what I do for a living during payment, which felt unnecessary and uncomfortable especially when being presented with a large treatment plan. I was told they have "60,000 clients," which didn't match what I observed at the practice, and added to the overall feeling that things weren't being presented transparently. On top of that, offering Botox and fillers while branding as "holistic" feels contradictory to what many patients expect when choosing a biological dentist. I came here looking for a provider who would partner with me and respect a more natural, conservative approach. Instead, I left feeling like I was being funneled into the same outcome I was trying to avoid just under a different label. If you're expecting true "healing dentistry" in the sense of collaboration, education, and respect for natural approaches, that was not my experience.

That was the mystery part. Since I moved to Phoenix, I have been going to Dr. Spilotro, at Advanced Dental Group. From the very first visit, I was given the knowledge about my teeth and gums, and how to better maintain them. If there is a need to monitor a spot, they tell me what is going on and why. All of the staff are friendly and professional; they make the trip to the dentist a pleasant experience. On one occasion, I had a cavity that was below the gum line. Dr. Spilotro explained every step of the process, how long the procedure would take, and what to expect when the procedure was done. The end result was fantastic. I recommend Dr. Spilotro and his staff.
