This is my second visit at this office. First, I am not sure if the staff speak sEnglish because every time I try to talk to someone there, I have to repeat myself numerous times and then they still don't understand. Second, I explained to the doctor at my most recent visit that I needed not only an eye exam for glasses but also contacts. The doctor and I even spoke about the last time I wore contacts and that I would need them for rotations as I would have to be wearing a mask. However, he still didnt do the contacts exam. Now, I am trying to order contacts through an independent party and I don't have the prescription for them. After calling Dr. McQuillans office three times now, they are saying that I now need to pay for an additional exam at $160, even though I specifically stated that I wanted contacts at my last exam!!! I don't usually write reviews, but this is a rare occasion where I felt I should warn the consumer. This was by far the worst experience ever. If I could give it less than one star it would be negative infinity. Be aware! Stay away from this office! The doctor is either incompetent or a crook. I didn't buy their overpriced lenses and ended up with a worthless prescription. When I contacted the office asking to correct my prescription they refused to see me. Then I read similar reviews on here, and now I know I am not the only one, almost every other review is 1-star. I intend to post this across all platforms. We have been patients of Dr McQuillian and his office for about two years with insurance changes. Dr. M and his staff are courteous and nice. The one thing that I would ask is more guidance and direction from the optical technician, when taking the different tests. Moving a chair around in a dark room when you are mature without your glasses was challenging for me, my balance, and my eyesight. Certainly not solution oriented so beware of offering solutions as the staff would prefer to send you on your way....seems sort of like a power trip. I wish I could just review the staff and not the Dr! Dr McQuillan has been great to work with over the years but his staff is terrible. They are rude, NEVER have an answer to basic questions like is my prescription available...they should have the ability to look at a computer and see. They provide ZERO customer service and always seem confused. Forget about contacts! The last straw was when I called and asked about contacts after 3 weeks of ordering them with no call and they acted like I was being to pushy. They never ordered them. I love this doctor. He is well mannered and reserved but has a dry sense of humor. Like me! The staff is very attentive and very welcoming soon as you enter the door. I not only come here for staff but for the quality of lenses. Zeiss (I'm sure spelled wrong) is by far a superior product and beats all those 1-hour lens c rafters, Walmarts, and Costco cheap lenses. read more

My husband was recently having issues with his eyes and also having headaches. He called Dr. McQuillan, who was unable to see him because of the Coronavirus Pandemic. He recommended that my husband see a specialist and gave him all of the contact information necessary to make the appointment. The next day Dr. McQuillan called my husband to see if he had been able to get an appointment and to check on the status of the evaluation. Dr. McQuillan even left his personal cell phone number to ensure that my husband could reach him. We have been patients of Dr. McQuillan for years and we have always found he and his staff to be professional, friendly, and very accommodating. We feel so lucky to have a doctor as qualified as he is in our local community. read more

UPDATED REVIEW (2/2017, 1 year later): Dropping from 2 stars to 1 star. Avoid this place. In the weeks following my original visit, the office staff accidentally broke my frames when adjusting them (they are not liable when adjusting outside frames, but they forgot to tell me that before breaking them). They helped me lie* to the place where I bought my frames, and I went there to get them replaced for free. Then the frames place accidentally broke the anti-reflective coating when popping in the lenses. Ugh. Okay, whatever. I paid $400+ I want to wear my glasses already. Almost a YEAR later, Jan 2017, I ask McQuillian's office staff to replace the lenses again after I find out the anti-reflective coating is insured for 2yrs (and it's raining a lot all of the sudden, driving sucks). They sent them off to "the lab" and tell me to expect them the following week. The lab breaks the lenses (delay, start over), then delivers BROKEN LENSES to the office with visible damage, which needs to be shipped back (longer delay), then they start all over again and finally deliver my lenses back almost 4 weeks from when I handed over my glasses. I called every single week, and in all this time I accepted a new job and moved out of town. Even now over a month later I don't have them - they are shipping them to me, which took some additional convincing. Overall my frustration is not with the prices, which McQuillian is right, they probably don't much control. My gripe is with the incompetence of the office staff and the lab they're contracted with - they dropped the ball again and again. I can't stand incompetence. -- -- ORIGINAL REVIEW (2/2016) 2-star = "Meh, I've experienced better." - Most expensive lenses I've ever purchased, even with "good insurance" (VSP) - staff was a bit "forceful" during the pre-testing - not a great selection of frames I have very bad eyesight, so I need to get the high-index lenses because there is so much glass sitting on my face. I had a routine eye exam, but the assistant working all the machines didn't exactly have a gentle touch, maybe she's new, but she was rushing me around this little room, blinding me with this test, shoving my face against that machine to get a picture of my eye, prying my eyelids open and cramming my face agains the hard plastic. This isn't my first rodeo but damn this lady was really manhandling my face. Not a deal breaker, just awkward, uncomfortable, and a bit dizzying. Dr. McQuillan was kind, a bit soft-spoken but a gentleman, and thorough. After the exam, I purchased my frames at the eyeglass factory across the way because they have a better frames selection for men - no big deal. I brought them back to get high-index lenses w/ anti-reflective coating... $415 before insurance. Seems pretty expensive right? Insurance dropped it down around $300 but this is more than I've ever payed for glasses before, some friends and family said the same. This does NOT include the frames, mind you, those I paid for separate. They gave me a welcome gift with a $5 coffee gift card and have stickers on the window asking for nice yelp reviews. The people are friendly but I've had better optometry experiences elsewhere. Nothing special about this place except they were at the top of the VSP website's recommended list when I searched my zip code. Recommend going elsewhere. read more

After my appointment that was canceled on a holiday due to the doctor being sick I tired to go into another eye doctor and schedule an appointment for my son only to find out that they had charged my son's insurance for an exam so I couldn't make an appointment without paying for it when I called the office and tired to talk to the lady about my son's appointment that had been canceled when she found out who I was she instantly hung up on me so I proceeded to call back and reschedule with them because they were already paid and I couldn't schedule somewhere else the lady who I talked to refused to give me her name and refused to make me an appointment and then started to argue that they didn't receive payment without seeing my son uh you absolutely did the other office ran the card and it showed up that he already had his one eye exam for the year she claimed she was trying to help me help me that absolutely hilarious this office should be shut down and it's completely obvious that some insurance fraud is happening here ! The costumer service skills here are the worst I have ever come across in a professional business or setting I never write reviews on anything but this is the worst place I've come across the doctor should be ashamed of his staff's attitudes and how they are treating his patients! We did not have a good experience wit Dr. McQuillan. My daughter was suffering from pretty serious PCS with vision issues and we drove from SB in a recommendation. The assessment made her feel awful, the Dr. did not listen to her when she said something was too much - and just said the treatment would probably make her barf - re she better toughen up. I requested an assessment report and did not get anything and now I get marketing texts and emails which I have asked to have stopped to no avail. If your child has serious PCS you might need someone more gentle. read more

My family and I recently visited Dr. McQuillan as returning patients and were completely appalled by the lack of professionalism of the office manager and how she spoke to me in front of my children and office staff. Dr. McQuillan seemed to be unavailable and had his intern complete the exam which was disappointing as well, although the intern was the most personable and professional staff member in the office. I will never return to this office and interpersonal staff training and customer service are highly lacking here. Save your money and insurance for someone else. read more

I would like to start off with the pros. They have a very friendly staff who are happy to assist you as soon as you walk in the door. Jessica is always ready to help with a smile on her face. The only thing that is really annoying and frustrating thing is (and the reason they're only getting two stars) that i had boughten my eyeglasses from them, and when i went to pick them up i had my contacts in so i didn't really bother checking to see if it was the "right" prescription. I get home and throw on my glasses and immediately get light headed, whatever, I really didn't think anything of it, i mean when you put your glasses on for the first time it takes a while to get adjust to them, wrong! I really couldn't see out of my glasses. I go back to get them prescribed right. I pick up my new prescribed glasses and try them on, it was the same thing as the first time, "maybe i just need to get used to them". i rarely ever use my glasses, i hate wearing eye glasses, but the one day i decide to let my eyes rest from my contacts i notice that i can't see with my glasses. I schedule yet ANOTHER appointment to check what's going on. Here's what happened, i guess this time around they had put too much prescription in. I leave my glasses to get them fixed. I get a call from the office, and they tell me that because it's been over 90 days my insurance doesn't cover it, so i would have to pay, but that they would give me a 20% discount, so it'd come out to $240. i get that i realized too late that i couldn't see out of my glasses but i really NEVER use my glasses, i wear my contacts, but at the same time, i feel frustrated and annoyed because i feel like they just should have gotten it right the FIRST time, not the THIRD time around! i'm still hesitant to switch eye doctor just because i literally started going to them but at the same time i really don't know how to feel about them. read more

The Dr. And his staff particularly Lizzie, have been awesome. I had a viral infection in both eyes and they have been caring for me during that time. They squeeze me in on short notice and have done everything they can for me during this stubborn problem. They call me by name when I walk in the door. I had broken my glasses while riding my motorcycle, and needed to replace them immediately. I went to this office because they had the earliest appointment opening. The staff was super nice, except for one person who became very rude when I resisted her sales push to max out my insurance coverage on expensive frames. But everyone else was amazing. I went in for an eye test and they have these machines I've never seen before that I did a pre-exam on. Afterwards I visited with the doctor for the actual test. Everything was fine except for a portion of the test where I could not identify the letters at all. The Dr. was very nice and a gentleman When I came by to pick up my glasses, the prescription was way off. I really thought I had someone else's lenses. After a few days I called and told them what was going on and was scheduled for another exam. I went back on the machine for the pre-test and then back to have an exam with the Dr. Once again, there were portions where I could not make out the letters at all. The Dr. was still polite, but not very friendly the second time around. It turned out that they had the axis incorrect on my lenses, which was causing the issues; and they ordered replacement lenses. With the new lenses, I actually see worse up close than I did with my old glasses that I broke. I feel that this is because of the portion of both exams where I could not make out the letters at all. I have to remove these new glasses to read and text. Despite the axis error & the less than perfect prescription I was content. Not happy enough to write a positive review but not upset enough to write a negative review. Then, at about the 1-year anniversary of my last visit I received an email from this office notifying me about my annual exam. I did not plan on returning to this office so I was going to delete the email, but I read it anyways. It notified me that an appointment had been made for me and I would be billed if I missed it. I was very irritated because had I not read the unsolicited email I would have been charged for missing an appointment that I did not schedule. I was able to call and cancel, and the lady on the phone was extremely nice. But due to the errors I would not recommend this office. read more

Pluses: - nice office - plenty of free parking - Most of the staff is friendly and courteous. - The optometrist is qualified, experienced and competent. Minuses: -They wasted an hour of my time. I had to wait 40 minutes after my appointment time to be called in. I was the only person in the waiting room for most of that time. I had to wait an additional 20 minutes in the examining room waiting for the optometrist. They gave no reason or apology for the long wait. - The prices are *exorbitant* $$$$$. I have good vision insurance; I provided my own frames; I needed the easiest, simplest lenses, and *still* had to pay out of pocket. I will not be going back. read more

The worst company ever. I've had an bad experience. It took 2 months to get a pair of glasses that they said it would be 2 weeks.
