Typical optometry visit until it came time to fit contacts. Because I have bad astigmatism, the doctor basically told me I was a 'lost hope' for properly fitting contacts. They only offered Acuvue, which didn't fit my eyes well, and the pair I left with was extremely uncomfortable. I never went back. I later went to Beverly Hills Vision Group (Jackson Lau) and got contacts that fit perfectly. Wasted $250--recommend going somewhere else. read more

I needed of a specific brand and type of contact lenses that my other optician (and Target) no longer carried. I called several practioners in my area, and All About Eyes (AAE) could procure the contacts i needed, and would take my kind of insurance. I just needed my newly written prescription filled, but Lu at AAE (who was very helpful) insisted I have an exam through AAE to get the contacts. Reluctantly, i agreed and went through their exam process (very thorough) and waited for my insurance to approve and fund it. I was finally able to get my contacts a month later through AAE. The first contacts they ordered were clear, even though I had requested for them to be tinted blue for ease of locating them in clear liquid, or if lost in a sink or on the floor. It took another week to get the correct contacts after returning the first pair, but I am very happy with them now. However, i felt it was poor customer service when one of the staff at the front desk looked away from me as they began talking to me when I was returning the first pair of contacts. I wasn't sure if she was talking to me, or to someone on the phone through an earpiece. And, when I returned to pick up the correct contacts a few days before Christmas, 3 people were behind the front desk talking to each other. I said hello, let them know my name, and asked about my contacts. Without a word, one of them looked back for the contacts behind her, and put them on the counter in front of me. There was no "Thank you" (for your patience?), or sorry for the inconvenience, or Happy Holidays. They just went back to talking to each other. Bewildered, I turned to leave and wished them Happy Holidays, and at least someone replied "Thank you". I hope the $1,250 AAE got from my insurance company for filling a contact prescription went to good use. Maybe some of it can be used to update employee customer service skills in 2026? For the correct contacts I give a 5. For having to go through the entire exam process again to get contacts, I give a 4, For customer service I give a 3. I hope this review helps everyone. "Dr. Jacobs isn't in the office on Thurs or Fri." I have been a patient of Dr. Jacobs since he was in the Esplanade Mall. I moved out of the area but stuck with Dr. Jacobs even with less expensive and more convenient options. I didn't think anything of it when the office sent an announcement earlier this year that there was a new doctor who joined the practice but I was shocked when I arrived because my appointment had been moved to this new doctor without any notice. I wasn't planning to look for a new optometrist but since the decision was made for me, I will find one that I choose. read more

DR. Jacobs and eye exams are 5 star GREAT! The customer service reps need to better work on what they tell customer service! The doctors and eye exams are 5 star! He by far is the best eye doctor I have ever been too. I recommend him to everyone I know, so why 4 stars. His customer service team could you a little updated training ! Saturday appointments are hard to come by, I'm told over the phone by the C.S. rep that my insurance covers new lenses and frames when I first setup my appointment. It's partly my fault for not checking with my insurance, but I expect customer service to do its do diligence and know that when they say something to a paying customer it be factual. When I get to my appointment I am told my insurance only covers lenses and NOT my frames, not until 2014. I was pissed, I am not stupid enough to argue that I was told frames were also covered. I know they won't do anything about it, but I did explain how disappointed I am in the C.S. I received, and how I just wasted a Saturday morning do to mistakes by them. I will probably never by frames from this office again, but I will keep Dr. Jacobs, he is a great doctor. read more

I am completely disappointed in Dr. jacob and his office. My family and i had been loyal customers for about 20+ years. This last time I went in for my appointment I had mentioned to Dr. jacobs that my prescription was not working for me anymore, So he said he would adjust my prescription and order new contact lenses, the lenses came In and i tried the contacts on as soon as i put them on i told him they didn't feel right but he said give them a week to adjust even though i already knew they weren't going to work for me, I came in a week later and told him the contacts were still not working for me, he told me the same thing that he would adjust the prescription and once again it was the same problem. I mention to him that I am in the nursing profession and I commute very far and at the peak of dawn and that I needed this problem solved because I couldn't read the medication charts or roads clearly, I mentioned I saw things blurry and with double vision and that this was crucial to my career. I went to him this last time and told him how I felt about the situation, this was the third time i had gone back, we both agreed he was going to order a new type of lens because he said i had a hard case and needed a different type of contact lens. I was worried and felt like he wasn't doing much for me or to fix my situation, So I mentioned if I needed to get a second opinion and the front ladies got very offended when I said that and I told them i did not want to seek a second opinion because I myself and my family has been coming here for more than 20+ but if he wasn't able to help me anymore I would have to. Later that day his daughter Rene called my mother and told her that he found some contacts that that would work for me but that they were very very expensive basically implying we couldn't afford them, my mother told her that if my daughter agreed to them it was fine we could pay for it and his daughter Rene rudely said "I'm not aware of your current financial status and that this is the time to seek for a second opinion" and my mother said if my daughter and the doctor agreed to order these new contacts then to go ahead and order them. Soon after that Dr.jacobs personally called my mother and said he wasn't gonna order the contacts and that I should seek a second opinion because he wasn't going to see me anymore because i was doubting him and he would have to start from scratch to try to find the correct type of contact lenses that would accommodate me and it was to much work and time consuming to do that. I found this very ridiculous especially because we have been going to Dr.jacobs for years. They billed the insurance for my exam so now i have to pay out of my pocket for a new exam, I'm overdue for contact lenses, and I can't see clear at all. I can't believe them this is very ridiculous and disappointing that they decided to refuse me services instead of going an extra mile as they should every patient deserves a Dr who is willing to do anything in their power to help their patient and in this situation they decided it was to much to work and refused me the services. As a health care professional I am also very disappointed in his work instead of referring me to a different doctor and being honest he decided not to continued services and did not care of I could see and preform my daily routine. read more

Good thing "Dave" (the tech) and Dr. Jacobs are the shit, I don't mind dropping a little coin to be able to see especially when the care is as good as it is here at Dr. Jacobs' practice. So after 12 years of seeing the same ophthalmologist I decided to switch last year because I felt like he could never get my prescription right with my contacts. I don't remember how I found Dr.Jacobs but I'm extremely happy I did. I have 20x10 (I guess it's better) with my contacts on. He's very personable and has good chair side manner. Front office is so so, the girl at the front who gives out paper work seems like it would kill her to smile, but they've never been rude to me. My only complaint is I kind of feel like they nickel and dime you! They charge for the retina scan when my previous ophthalmologist didn't and then they charge you for a contact lens exam when I've been wearing the same brand of contacts for over 10 years. I can understand as a new patient paying that fee but not yearly. Maybe it's just me. read more

I walked in i for sure was thinking very expensive considering all the glasses frames were high end brands such as gucci, juicy, gabanna, etc. However the dr himself was really nice and uber cheerful. Extra fees charged for who knows what! When I complained they tried to tell me that it was normal and they had the best prices in town. I'm sorry but that's a lie. I visited other eye doctors in the area and they did not charge those fees such as, beware, an additional $65 for a "Toric" evaluation! I absolutely love this doctor. I work with doctors on a daily basis and this man is one of the nicest most warm hearted people to be around. I hadn't seen him in maybe 2 years and when I went back for a checkup he made it a point to ask if I had any more vacations planned since the last time I was there I was telling him I love to travel. Whether this was a coincidence or not it was still a nice gesture. The little time I spend with him during my exams is enough to know he cares deeply about his practice and his employees reflect this as well. The first time I was there I spent well over an hour with his assistant picking out the perfect frames, which I still absolutely love. Best eye doctor I've ever been to. I have worn glasses since I was two years old. It is difficult to fit me with contacts as my prescription is challenging to say the least. Usually it takes 2-3 tries before finding lenses that will work/fit. Dr. Jacobs fit me in the first try. Then to top it off, his staff is awesome. Knowledgable, kind, and all around great service.
