We've been coming to Dr. Freeland for years! I highly recommend this business. His staff is amazing so kind, patient and accommodating. The testing process is quick and painless. Dr Freeland is the best in the business. He's so knowledgeable and explains everything to you. He's always available for questions. He has a wide variety of glasses & sunglasses. Years ago my girlfriend's child had a bump on her eye he came in during closing time to give her an exam. Thankfully he did it was cancer and because they caught it so soon she's 100% recovered. read more

Walked by this place and decided to stop by. I have been having issues with my frames for a while, might have sat on them. When I walked in I was right away greeted by a nice boy who asked me to take a seat and assured someone will be with me soon. Within less than 5 minutes a tech asked me what was wrong, I showed her, she adjusted my frames in 2 minutes and fixed my glasses. They asked me for NOTHING. I'm a new customer, after moving here. Friendly staff, didn't have to wait very long for my initial eval. Dr. Freeland was polite, efficient and competent, and explained a complex issue with ease. His staff actually understood my insurance and explained it thoroughly, which my prior ODs never did well. Called again recently to do a few things and they had my request processed immediately. After a fun family trip we could not have ended it without An accident. That last day that one more time, After a wake surf board came up out of the water and hit me straight into the cheek and eye. I we knew we where gonna need to see our eye doctor to make sure there is no permanent damage. My mom was able to make an appointment and they were able to get us in ASAP. I don't remember most of it as I did sustain a concussion but from what I do remember they were very gentle and kind ,knowing that I was in a lot of pain they were able to take a pictures and see that there was no permanent damage. There was concern that there might be complications from the accident but Dr. Freeland dilated my eyes and made sure that they were all good to go. I was in a lot of pain but everybody at the office was super caring and made our time there as comfortable as possible. He told us somethings to watch out for and to let him know if anything were to get worse thankfully we were given the all clear on our second appointment and I am recovering quite well. I also was able to get my new glasses while I was there which I love. We are so thankful for Dr. Freeland and all his amazing staff. They go up and beyond for each of there patients. read more

I was looking for a new place to get a yearly eye exam and glasses and hoping to find a place I can return to year after year. Sadly, this is NOT the place. I do not feel like my exam with dr. Ross was comprehensive at all and I'll have to go somewhere else within the year to be assured my eye health is taken seriously. In an office where the 6 employees didn't wear masks (fine by me- it's the end of 2022) I was told my exam doesn't include dilation because of COVID! My tears can transmit covid per a study done in China! Never in my life has an optician gotten a tear on themselves during an exam and besides, isn't that what gloves are for? He doesn't want to touch eyes. Hello this is literally your job. A dilated eye exam is the only way to check for eye diseases early on. Since many eye diseases have no symptoms or warning signs, you could have a problem and not know it- getting a dilated eye exam is the only way to know for sure. Also, he didn't acknowledge 1 concern and totally brushed off my biggest concern so there is another reason why I'll need to go to someone else in a few months. On a positive note everyone else in the office was great, friendly, and helpful. I thought I was going to see dr. Freeland and choose the place because of good reviews on him but the office policy of not having comprehensive exams makes it a no go for me and should be for anyone who cares about eye health. read more

I would most definitely recommend this place, these doctors, and their front office staff. I only went there with basic medi-cal but I do know something about eyewear and optometry, based on something from a previous life, and this dr, although he accepts medi-cal, he's top notch dr... I saw dr Ross, I didn't see doctor Freeland, but I'm sure that both of them are the same. Very, very nice, easy to talk to, and very proficient. Also, they are taking all kinds of precautions to protect patients who go in there, which really should be the 1st thing I wrote, but I just thought of it just now. I would most definitely recommend in fact I will be recommending. These people will get customers from me for sure. read more

Absolutely love Dr. Freeland and Dr. Ross but the staff - mainly the women, are terrible. Have the biggest attitude when you don't let them upsell you to the max. Are hesitant to give the prescription when asked and try to refuse to give the pupillary distance so you can't order glasses elsewhere. We've gone back because of the drs but with our last experience with the frontline staff, it looks like our family will be finding new optometrists. read more

Two words...ALWAYS IMPRESSED! We love how much Dr. Ross and Dr. Freeland, and their staff cares about their patients. Dr. Ross has consistently made great recommendations and always tries to make our visits comfortable. My daughter and I see Dr. Ross regularly, and my husband recently saw him as well. My husband, who hasn't been to an O.D. in over 10 years because he's the type of person who won't make a doctor's appointment unless there's a problem or he's in pain. While he took my daughter for her eye exam, the staff was able to squeeze him in for an exam too. Great job, staff! I'm so glad you took care of my family. My family and I have been going to see Dr. Freeland for over 20 years now, and he is so much more than our eye doctor! Every time I have the pleasure of getting my eyes checked by Dr. Freeland its like seeing an old friend. We spend a few minutes just catching up with each other's families and life events. His staff is wonderful, helpful, and courteous. I am always satisfied with my eye glasses or contacts and feel that my eyes are being cared for in the best way possible. As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Freeland and Family Optometry is the only eye doctor for me and my family. My only hope is that Dr. Freeland will not retire before I have kids of my own!! I have been going to Drs. Freeland and Ross for 6 years. They have been great. They are very careful in their eye exams and take the time to explain what's going on during the exam. Dr. Ross really helped me out by prescribing monovision (one lens for near vision, one lens for far) when bifocals just didn't work for me. They also have a Simi location which is convenient since I work out there. This is really quality eye care and their rates are good and my insurance covers most of the cost. These are the real pros! read more

I have been going to this office for years upon years now. For the longest time I saw Dr. Freeland, the man whom the practice is named after. But over the past few years I've been handed off to another OD who works in the office. The first time this happened I figured, "Oh, Dr. Freeland must be busy today, but I'm sure I'll see him next year." Nope, though Dr. Freeland is in the office, I continue to get the other guy. Bummer. Is he nice, the other OD, sure, but I go to Dr. Freeland's office to see Dr. Freeland. At least, that is what kept me going there in the past. I'm thinking it might be time to find a new optometrist for me and my family. On a positive note, I will say that I really do enjoy the help I've received when working with Jennifer. If possible, I will try to work with her specifically. read more

Been going do Dr. Freeland for years. It is a wonderful feeling to see better. The other day my wife stepped on my glasses (was it something I said?) and squashed them flat. Didn't break the lenses. Dr. Freeland saved my life! Well not literally, but it felt like it this morning. Last night I got something (felt like a splinter) stuck in my eye. It would not come out after all sorts of procedures that I looked up online. I called him first thing in the morning and he got me in immediately. I made an appointment for both my daughter and myself, first time clients. Everyone was super nice and explained all procedures and reasons for doing them. They made both of us feel comfortable. When I needed to pick out lenses and frames they were incredibly patient with me. There are so many choices with regard to the lens options and the frames. They didn't seem to get frustrated w/ my indecisiveness and changing of my mind a few times. My husband and son both need eye appointments and new glasses so I will be making appointments for them soon.
