Communication…read more Sometimes it feels like a lost art and in Haight Street Optometry's case, it was basically non-existent. I came in last year to finally get a proper pair of glasses. I'm a writer so seeing the computer screen and being able to read words on pages is pretty important. I spent close to $500 on swanky Italian red frames and was talked into progressive lenses. I had never tried this new-fangled visual technology and was hesitant, but I figured why not. When they arrived and I picked them up, I tried them on and didn't care for them, they made me dizzy, but I was told to give it some time to adjust. I then left on a multi-month assignment to Europe later that week and struggled with them the whole time and finally gave up and just bought cheap readers. I sat on them for a bit when I returned to the states and would pull them out and try again and again, but it was no use. Progressive lenses are not for me. I made an appointment to see if there was anything that could be done or if we could switch them out for regular computer-friendly glasses, but my window of time had elapsed. Totally fine, I get it, but this is where my frustration comes in. Had they told me a solid no, I would have moved on and figured out next steps, but instead, I waited for Georgina to ask the doctor if they could do something to help me. That took 2 months and no updates. I then called again to check the status assuming they had been changed out (as she made it sound like they would do) and she had forgotten to even ask. She then apologized and said she would check with the doctor that day and get right back to me. That was April. It's now August and it wasn't until I called again today that she told me nothing could be done. Again, if it was a done deal, fine, but making me wait 6 months with this dangling carrot of flakey hope is just unprofessional. I waited 6 months for a no when i could have just ordered glasses somewhere else by now. Insurance wasn't my main concern, i just wanted the right lenses so I could do my job and see. So, I will not be returning here. Communication seems like a bare minimum and while I appreciated the gesture to help in the beginning, it was a hollow gesture at best and left a really bad impression. Nobody has time for that kind of a bs and now my eyes are worse and ai have to start this whole process over. Newp.

They will tell you they won't accept new patients if you let them know you have VSP insurance with Medi-Cal. They "discriminate" VSP (Medi-Cal) insurance holders compared with other employer provided vision insurance policies. Although VSP customer support told me they cannot discriminate like that but they will find ways to push you away. They will treat you like second class citizens even if they are force to take you in as new patients. They will tell you the only way is to put you on their "cancellation waitlist" which they don't know how many months out. They are NOT an honest trustworthy business, period. I think they behave like this is because they only want to work with insurance providers/policies which they can easily "milk" most of the patients benefits for their own profit. I am reaching out to file an official complaint to VSP with audio recorded evidence to proof how bad this business practiice is really is.

I did the surgery in China and the doctors in China prescribed an eye drop that was popular in other countries but not so much in the US. Dr. Ng gave me some eye drops that were more popular in the US and took the time to explain all this. She also showed respect to all possible decisions that I might make and let me know if I still wanted to purchase the eye drop that doctors in China prescribed for me, where I could go. I have visited Dr. Ng three times. I can see this office as my go-to place in the next few years!

They're respectful and most importantly, they just do right by their patients. Last year, one son caught pink eye, the other son had stye eye that turned into an infection. I was able to secure an appointment, obtained antibiotics, and was provided clear instructions on tending to the infections.

The office is unbelievably clean, comfortable and the front desk staff are competent and welcoming and so are both of the Doctors. Our Doctor is Dr. Fong, who is brilliant, educating and explains everything about our treatment in detail. Dr. Fong is easy going, friendly and puts us both at ease. The exams are actually enjoyable. I always buy contact lenses and my husband buys glasses every year. They are of the highest quality and their prices are reasonable. It is so easy to go to an office where we are getting the highest quality in service and product. Don't hesitate. They take our VSP insurance. Enjoy.

The receptionist Lily handled my call, understood my concern, and was able to accomodate a same day for the last time slot of the day! As a new patient she made sure to follow up on the phone with my concerns, insurance, and intake forms to make sure the process is speedy and convenient. Dr. Nguyen seated me almost immediately after checking in, and understood my concerns. The checkup process was routine and as soon as the doctor discovered retinal tearing, she let me know and immediately attempted to call numerous ophthalmologists to see if they can conveniently see me while I was dilated despite it being 5PM in the afternoon. I truly appreciate the efforts from Doctor Nguyen in making sure I get the optimal treatment for my visit. I'm also appreciative of the Doctor and receptionist both for staying late and taking extra care and effort for my appt without me having to ask. The following day the Doctor even left a voicemail to follow up and let me know that they've retroactively inquired with my insurance and found valid vision coverage, offering to refund a 200 dollar visit to a simple $20 copay, again, without asking! I can't ask for better service and treatment from both the office and optometric staff. If they hadn't taken me in that day, I wouldn't have known to seek a next-day ophthalmologist and gotten immediate surgical care, which could've lead to more serious issues if I hadn't!

I wasted a lot of time for multiple calls and emails with them and the insurance company to find out the order status, get a refund, and restore my coverage to go elsewhere. The doctor was hard to reach and never apologized. Also she is always looking for new ways to scare you into costly and unnecessary exams and treatments. I suggest going to another Optometrist who focuses on patient care over profit. Update in response to business: Notice there is no apology in the owner response. The owner uses the glasses customization (what should be a basic standard of patient care) as an excuse for their poor choice of a lab that made a mistake and delayed the order. "Their best" to keep me informed was me having to call and email several times to follow up. They did NOT offer a full refund. They offered a partial refund for just the glasses, I had to negotiate for the exam cost which I had to retake with another doctor, and that does not make up for the wasted time and inconvenience. As for treatment recommendations, they start with what will be more profitable to them. This place does not accept accountability for their actions.

I called immediately and asked if they would honor the 2025 prices. They didn't call back for several days and then said they would not honor those prices. So I was screwed out of an entire year's worth of vision benefits because they couldn't be bothered to put correct information on their telephone or their website about their hours on New Year's Eve. They were very, very rude to me. Their eyeglasses have always been overpriced and the frames not very attractive, but they were on my insurance, so I felt I was stuck with them. Now, I get nothing because they screwed up on posting their hours. Any decent business would have tried to make it right. Instead, they were very rude.
