The first one left me with a spinal fluid leak (soaking the bed sheets with spinal fluid!) which required another surgery to repair it. This one one gave me a septic infection which put me in the ICU where my wife was told that I probably would not be going home. The wonderful hospital doctor ordered the swollen, infected area around my incision to be aspirated and tested to prove surgical infection. Before the team came to perform the aspiration procedure, Mesiwala came in and quickly ordered another nurse to administer an IV antibiotic (while he stood by and anxiously watched). This would make all of the infection tests from the surgical site come back negative. The hospital doctor on my case who ordered the test was furious about this cover-up antibiotic maneuver. She was very frank with me and said she "was shocked that he was still allowed to practice medicine but said it wouldn't go on for long." That was 18 years ago. Prior to the first surgery, a very well-known neurologist told me that Dr. Mesiwala "Has very poor judgment." A very strong statement from one MD against another, which I wish I had taken seriously. After my disastrous and nearly fatal experience, he suggested I get a lawyer and had his secretary give me the lawyer's phone number. He was on the medical board and wanted to use my case for more evidence to have Mesiwala's license revoked. I was too sick to deal with it and foolishly did not follow up. Also, prior to my surgery, even my home health nurse asked if I had done any research on Dr. Mesiwala. He then told me about the TV exposé on Dr. Mesiwala and the US Department of Justice Enterprise Corruption case for pushing a company's spinal implants after being given part of the company which made them. This is a Federal crime. I blame myself for not heeding the warnings. That's why I'm posting this for others. Now from the public record: Frequent Malpractice Lawsuits, Repeated Fraud, Medical Board Disciplinary Actions for Negligence, and a D.O.J. Racketeering investigation. Last May, I stopped seeing him for various reasons, none because he was not a good psychiatrist. During September, (with no medication),I began to experience severe depression unlike anything I had ever gone through. When November arrived, my condition had deteriorated to the point that I was crying frequently, thinking about death, suffering from horrific insomnia, having anxiety attacks, living with daily, debilitating excessive daytime sleepiness and loss of energy. I fantasized about turning myself in to a mental hospital or the emergency room. My future seemed black and doomed when I dared to think about it. Knowing I could not go on, I saw Dr. Kunam as a walk-in appointment. I told him of my downward spiral into thoughts of suicide and my other conditions. He prescribed five medications for me, medications that are perfect for me. He is a genius in medications. I feel hopeful again. He is going to monitor my progress carefully. I have a return appointment to see him in three weeks so we can see how the medications are working. Seeing him again literally saved my life. Don't ever, ever stop seeing your psychiatrist capriciously. Doing so almost cost me my life. Also, Dr. Kunam is a very kind doctor. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Last January, 2021, with the…read moreCONTINUED covid protocols placed upon hospitals and medical facilities, Kaiser was "unable" to perform, what for me was needed surgery to better my quality of life, for up to five months out; because it was not deemed "life saving" surgery. Of course the up to five months was based upon the government's stranglehold upon them being released. As y'all should know even at the time of this post review it still has not been lifted. However, at the time Kaiser did do the right thing and offered to farm out my surgery to this surgery center; should a surgeon there opt to perform it and take payment from Kaiser at what Kaiser was willing to pay. I was contacted by the staff of Dr. Cordero and was scheduled within five weeks, not months. As a matter of fact they actually had an opening in less than two weeks, but I was going to be out of state and had to turn it down. I did have a consultation within a few days of contact. Fast forward to the day of my surgery. I arrived and waited no more than 15 minutes in the waiting room (I see some people bitching about their wait time, but it was good to go for me). After being prepped and waiting for the next step they brought some guy in the room (which is a recovery room as well) and parked him behind the curtain next to me. As they were bringing him out of his anesthesia the dude lost his freaking mind, yelling incoherently, crying out in "pain" and flailing about. Three people were trying to restrain him and I volunteered to assist. They declined my offer and a fourth person entered the room and they were finally able to restrain him to the bed, until he calmed down. I was pretty impressed how they handled this man/baby, to say the least. I may, or may not, have yelled at the guy to man up during his little escapade. After my surgery the staff was very attentive and before long my wife was whisking me home. Before departing Dr. Cordero explained the post-op criteria and provided a number directly to his staff should I have any issues or questions (Kaiser does NOT do this, as you need to go through their member service gatekeepers just to get a message in). Dr. Cordero personally called me a couple days later to check on how the healing process was going. 10 days, or so later, I returned for a post-op follow up. Dr. Cordero is one cool guy just to chat with, as was his staff assistant. Fast forward to today - the surgery was obviously a success and I am very satisfied with the overall experience.
