Dr. Jakobsen is pompous, dismissive, and rude. He acted like he knew everything about my condition without listening to my experience. He claimed that my condition was not real and that I should be treated for acid reflux even though I had tried various treatments over the last two years. He eventually left the exam room without giving any sort of actual help. He is very unprofessional and should not be practicing medicine if this is how he will treat patients who are desperately seeking medical treatment. read more

Horrible Experience at Head & Neck Associates of OC (Dr Jakobsen, MD) This office treats you like a billing code, not a patient. My wife was blindsided w/ $500 charge for an undisclosed procedure during a routine visit. Other doctors, from past exp, include this in the visit or warn us upfront. It took multiple calls to billing to get a response, & the doctor was dismissive, dodging accountability, and fixating on insurance (which is irrelevant when transparency is the issue, whether ins pay 1% or 99% not the point here!) Head & Neck Associates of OC prioritizes profit over patient trust and care. Spoke to 3 different people there on one cares. Avoid this practice if you value respect and honesty. Check your bills very carefully, They billed us for an endoscopy and we did not have one performed. When I called billing they said they would have to clarify with MD because it was in the note. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt for now and assuming this was sloppy documentation and not intentionally fraudulent but I will absolutely be contacting the Department of Insurance if they don't resolve this. My partner Tom had a sire throat that our medical group in laguna Beach licated in Glenneyre and zmThaila missed for 6 months, and upon changing our hmo to a ppo I made an appointment on Jan. 2nd for the 6th. With in10 minutes of walking into the examing room, Dr Jakobsen had this giant tumor that was very aggressive up on his monitor. Thst other medical group didn't do jack-crap for us except to have us come back every 3 weeks so they could take notes, act like doctors, and continue to bill our medical insurance. Disgusting! My partner, because of Dr. Jakobsen is alive and, although not completely well, has finished hus radiation and chemo therapy and is on the road to recovery. Had we not found Dr. Jakobsen, when we did, I would have had to bury my partner 3 months ago. So Yes! Him and his team get an easy 5 out of 5 star rating from us read more

Terrible experience seeing this doctor. My hearing has been muffled for 3 weeks since a flight. Having ear pain and distorted hearing. Made an appointment with Dr Jakobson and once he entered the room I immediately regretted my decision. I didn't even get to explain why I was there. He assumed it was due to a piece of skin on my ear drum. He removed it asked if my hearing was better, I told him no and he told me I was fine and that was it. Terrible experience and felt rushed. I saw Dr Jakosen a few months ago . I was having a problem with my right sinus. My husband came with me as always. He was short with me and seemed like he didn't want to be bothered with me. It turns out I have a cyst the size of 5 quarters. I have not been able to breathe in the right side for 6-8 months. He gave me 2 different nose sprays and no follow up . I lost my taste with FLONASE . Care was really awful. I need surgery ASAP. Concerned about possible vision loss. I'm constantly sick with dripping. It's awful. I have not slept in months. Dr. M. Jakobsen is inept and deserves zero stars. He is unethical, uneducated and outdated in the medical field. Do your research and you'll find that there are many complaints about Jakobsen overall. My mother was diagnosed with a rare head/neck cancer. I know this because our family DID the research...Dr. Jakobson did NOT. Dr. J recommended only 1 option- radical surgery - a rhinotomy, orbitotomy/orbit exenteration removing nose/eye and more-. In other words he wanted to cut half her face off and have her walk through the backdoor. After our research, we sought educated and highly skilled doctors (not found in MV) These experts (in Boston, NY, LA, MDAnderson) could not believe what Dr. Jakobsen had recommended. They called his technique "mutilation" and "ill-advised". Why he's unethical and less than a human-being, you ask? Dr. Jakobsen's referral would not allow the insurance to move forward with the proper treatment out-of-network. We presented valid research and 5 expert letters in the hopes of changing his referral for (his) surgery. He refused and stated: if we didn't have an "HMO this would not have happened". He said it would be a "$600,000 expense" to his medical group (of which he had made that mistake once before). Eventually, we appealed his decision with our insurance and received the proper care at 1 of the best hospitals in the nation but Dr. J made this a much more difficult and delayed process. Ultimately, my mother kept her nose, kept her eye/eyesight and did not have to put on a fake nose, eye or teeth each morning as Dr. J suggested. He doesn't deserve to be practicing. I would not suggest him to have my child's tonsils taken out - he is an awful human being. read more

He's one of those people who likes to hear the sound of his own voice. Doesn't listen, just likes to talk. After attempting to stop his line of thinking out loud by stating I had diagnostic testing which was negative he said "LET ME FINISH" so I did, which took several minutes. I then explained why his theory was highly unlikely due to the timeline and diagnostics that were performed. He looked caught, then he pretended to be uninterested. When physicians have this personality trait it's a waste of time. If a doctor works for you, he's basically an employee wasting time and having ego problems. Would not recommend. read more

Nothing less than perfect, I've been dealing with an issue with my neck for4 years and I was not able to get a proper diagnosis from multiple doctors. Dr. Jakobsen has been my "go to" ENT physician for 15 or more years. I have always received top level medical treatment from him and excellent service from the entire staff in his medical group. He is direct and to the point which is want I want in a doctor. This might not suit everyone but it certainly suits me and my wife, who is also his patient. I had a great experience with Dr. Jakobsen! I saw him as a new patient. I had been experiencing a blockage in my ear and ringing along with dull pain. I wear earplugs at night so I knew the culprit was probably wax buildup. I had tried to remove it myself with a home ear flushing kit. To no avail it didn't work and instead backfired. I then had trapped water and a full feeling in my ear. Ugh!! I had the symptoms along with a lot anxiety (lol) for about five days until I finally decided to call the office. I am so glad I did! I was able to get in quickly, within a day. Dr. Jakobsen had a great bedside manner. He was super friendly and eased my anxiety. He used the micro suction machine to remove the wax and it took less than five minutes. I can hear perfectly now! I am so grateful! Thank you Dr. Jakobsen! read more

I must first apologize for completely butchering Dr. Jakobsen's name as I had gotten it mixed up with another doctor in the clinic. He had a good sense of humor thankfully. He examined me and the diagnosis was acid reflux and his remedy worked immediately that very next day! I highly recommend him! The other thing I really want to commend him for is as another professional I understand he has to replay the same information to the general public over and over every day and we depend on him and doctors like him for their knowledge and accurate diagnosis. He knows his stuff. And he's very kind and polite even though I know he's had to say this exact thing probably 60 times that day. I am grateful for his help. He was spot on! I took my son to Dr. Jakobsen because he had earwax blocking his eardrum. I was uneasy about getting the earwax removed because he's a toddler, but Dr Jakobsen came in the room looked at his ears and took are of business. He was awesome, fast, informative, and did a really good job. If we ever have an issues again we will for sure be seeing Dr. Jakobsen. read more

I was very apprehensive about this office visit. The wait was a little long and I felt the doctor and staff were very busy and it feels sometimes like my visits had a "drive through" air about them. Even though I was clear about having no hearing at the moment, thus the visits and treatments. I kept getting asked questions and getting directions verbally, which I couldn't hear, especially with face masks. I lost my small advantage of lip reading. Saw him for Menieres Disease in my left ear. He was very helpful in explaining options for treatment. From medication, to diet changes, even surgery. He gave me his honest opinions on what he felt worked and what didn't. Had issues with a med or two, side effects I didn't like. He helped me find one that worked. He has helped me keep my ability to hear and not have any Menieres episodes. I appreciate his professionalism and knowledge. He told me in one visit what took another doctor about four visits plus a pitch to sell me overpriced vitamins for tinnitus. Dr J told me to stop drinking caffeine. Problem solved and I didn't waste $60 on a bottle of vitamins. read more

I have had issues with my ear for 3 months and seen 3 different doctors without it getting better. I finally saw Dr. Jakobsen and he diagnosed me in less than 10 minutes and prescribed the correct medication which led me to feel better the next day!! The most arrogant doctor I've ever spoken to (and I've seen a number of doctors in my day!) I would rate him as follows: Bedside manner: 0. Sympathy: 0. Listening skills: 0. Ability to communicate clearly: 0. Accepts questions? With disdain. He treated us as though we were both stupid and ignorant. But does he know his stuff? Is his diagnosis accurate? I have no idea. From other reviewers, it looks like Dr. Jakobsen is sometimes accurate but sometimes very wrong. Unfortunately, as a patient, it's hard to know. All I know is that we were sent for a diagnosis to explain my husband's strange audiogram(s) and recent rapid hearing loss. Well, we got a diagnosis all right. Dr. Jakobsen glanced at the audiogram, looked in my husband's ears, and pronounced that the problem was not demyelination, not otosclerosis, not an auto-immune issue, but was a nerve conduction issue. He could tell all that just by looking in my husband's ears?? Hmm... I short, I would NOT recommend Dr. Jakobsen to even my worst enemy. read more

I have been suffering for over 4 months with ear pain. I have visited with two other doctors but the problem was not corrected until last week. Dr. Michael Jakobsen walked into the room and gently shook my hand. In 4 minutes he identified the problem, walked me through the issues and set in motion a solution. WOW- today a week later I am feeling much better with a couple of correct medications. Dr. is nice- and efficient. He asked that I return in a month to see if we need to take any further action. The entire office staff is terrific; yes it is a big operation but exceptionally well run. I arrived early and they took me early(how often can you say that about any doctor's office!).... they preformed a hearing test to get a baseline and check to see that I am not having hearing loss. If you need a solid, qualified ENT doctor go visit with Dr. Jakobsen, you will be very glad you did! read more

Dr Jakobsen performed two major surgeries on me (total thyroidectomy and tonsillectomy). While examining me for GERD, he found a thyroid goiter which eventually led to needing it removed. Dr Jakobsen took excellent care of me and I had a great recovery with no growth of thyroid cells or a scar. I greatly trust his care so when I needed a tonsillectomy, I returned to Jakobsen and again was very happy with his care. After being diagnosed with recurrent sinus infections by other doctors, I visited Jakobsen again. He examined me and did X rays and found they were not in fact sinus infections but actually caused by severe TMJ. No other doctor even saw that possibility and kept prescribing antibiotics which weren't actually needed. His office has also always squeezed me in for emergency appointments and never made me wait over 24 hours. read more

I went to see him after experiencing ear pain. He sat down and said I "probably" have a rare disease that may or may not lead to me going deaf. In shock and a bit traumatized, I attempted to ask questions about the disease to get myself educated. He seemed inpatient or annoyed that I was asking questions. He answered one question, stood up and abruptly left the office. Zero compassion, empathy or education. I will never go back to this office again.
