Dr Zuckerman is BY FAR the most down to earth, relatable, caring and attentive doctor anyone in our family has ever encountered. My 20 year old daughter has been getting step several times a year and he's been great about calling in the Rx when she's out of state at college. We finally decided to have her tonsils out (for the second time!) and he performed the surgery. He was thorough and took his time explaining the procedure to me and my husband and when I called him at 8AM on a Sunday morning, he called back within minutes and got some new meds called into the pharmacy for her. He is not only an expert at what he does but he's a as good of a human as he is a doctor. He cares about his patients and makes himself available to them. His staff is also fantastic! I liked the doctor and the service I received from him, but unfortunately his staff SPECIALLY THE FRONT OFFICE LADY, I'm sorry to say this but the only feeling I receive from her is hatred, it feels like every time I go to the office I have done something to deserve the worst treatment I get from her, and it's not just me she is like that with everyone!!!!! I give the front desk receptionist a zero star if I could. Incompetent or she knew exactly what she was doing. Before I can have my ears checked by the doctor, she said I needed a hearing test. I asked 3 times only if it's covered under my well-known insurance plan. Every single time she said "yes" or "yes, don't worry about it." The hearing test is billed separately than the doctor's bill. I get the EOB for the Audiologist and it states, "out of network provider." I call her and she forwards me to billing located at another Shohet Ear Associates office in Newport Beach. Billing won't waive the charges but reduced it to the amount I would have to pay if it was covered. I had already met my deductible for the year but I had no choice but to pay it. Even though Dr. Zuckerman's office is a in network provider, don't expect that the Audiologist they use is in network. Even if you ask that question, the front desk who I won't name her name will say it is. Such a scam. The Audiologist group (Shohet Ear Associates) should have waived all charges due to the incompetency of the front desk of this doctor's office. For the doctor I give him 3 stars because his chairside manner took me aback. He walked in with his note taker, didn't introduce himself, sat in a chair not facing me, didn't even look at me and asked what he can do for me. Not a very good first impression. To top it off, he didn't even know I took a hearing test until I was about to leave. It's obvious he didn't order such a test. The Audiologist group - Shohet Ear Associates lost a patient because they did not do the right thing. It's how they run their business and it comes from the top. Complete waste of time. I've been calling this office for the last 2 months trying to get a referral for a simple sleep study and my visit. First, they said they would have someone call me within 2 weeks, but no one did. After following up with them, they put in the request and gave me the number to follow up with a sleep study company. Turns out, they sent me to a company outside my network, even though there are plenty in my network. After calling again, they referred me to the Hoag sleep study company. This time, the new company said they never got the order. Finally, after getting the order in, it's been another month and the sleep study company says they need additional information for my doctor and they've made 3 attempts and no one from the doctor's office is getting back to them. I had the pleasure of meeting him last month and was so impressed he didn't care about all the medical problems I had he cared about what brought me to his office, we need more doctors like Zukerman and less of " doctors that have attitude". They contract with a technician from Shohet ear. This Dr and technician work completely different days which is a waste of a working persons time. They billed my insurance for a hearing test that was less than 10 seconds. Appears I need "right" ear way removal. Rushed to kick me out of the chair to book another two new appointments in Newport at Shohet. Tech completely ignored the detail that my hearing loss since birth is actually in my "left" ear. I had a severe sinus infection that impacted my hearing. Dr. Zuckerman was referred to me by my primary doctor. There was quite a long time to wait for an appointment because he is so good at what he does and I asked if they would call me if a cancellation was made. The front desk called me 3 days later and asked if I could come the next day. I really appreciated that they kept my request and gave me the opportunity to come earlier. The receptionist was really on it and it made a big difference for me. It ended up that I had fluid in my eardrums from the infection. Dr. Zuckerman recommended he drain my left eardrum as I could hardly hear from it. He did the procedure quickly and painlessly and my hearing was restored. Our son just had his tonsils removed by Dr. Zuckerman at the Newport Beach surgery center on 19th and Harbor Boulevard. I work in the surgical center space and as such have a lot of experience to compare to. Dr. Zuckerman was beyond helpful communicated more than you could ever recently expect that successfully completed the surgery. The staff at the surgery center was amazing No less than five different registered nurses came to play and joke around with my son totally removing the fear that the young man had about having surgery! I come from a family of physicians including 2 Heart Surgeons, 2 Family MD's and a Orthopedic Surgeon. I waited 1 month for this appointment and went in prepared with x-rays, CT sinus scans and all of my nasal sprays. This is a total waste of time and money. In August 2019, I was referred by urgent care for sinus migraines to Dr. Zuckerman. I've been having sinus migraines for the past 4 months and really needed medical help. Not only he couldn't provide any answers, nor did he refer me to a specialist, he also wouldn't provide me any medication to treat my sinus migraine & relieve me of pain !! Even after I provided a recent 1 month old RX that provided some relief, he wouldn't write me another RX that was similar. WHY would ANY patient waste their time to see a doctor if over the counter medicine worked ???? Not to mention his staff is also not interested to help you. If your issue requires extra research, they don't want to bother. They just want their money. DON'T waste your time or money. Please do not be mislead by some of these peoples bad reviews. I LOVE LOVE Dr. Zuckerman. Yes, you may need to wait a little bit, but it is completely well worth it to have the best ENT. I have had all three of my children and my husband have surgery done by Dr. Zuckerman. He is very thorough and such a great doctor to work with. I run a preschool and refer parents to him all the time, who have also loved him and his work. I have never heard one bad thing about it. I am also going to take my son back to him for another issue and know that he will be in the best hands. I highly recommend him. read more

In early 2014 I was having 45 -60 minute Nose bleeds. Before seeing Dr, Zuckerman I figured out they were caused by Thyroid medication. I stopped taking the medication and the Nose Bleeds stopped. Imagine that! I wanted to find out if there was anything else going on with my Nasal passages or if any damage occurred. I was referred by another Doctor to Dr. Zuckerman. Before making an appointment I read up about this Doctor, Board Certified etc. I called to make certain they took my Insurance, they did. I booked an appointment for a couple of days later. I am the type of person who will drive for miles to see a highly recommended Doctor. In this case I did. This office requires you to fill out your medical information paper work online. I am not a Fan of this new way of life, but apparently it is becoming commonplace. I waited for about 20 minutes. I don't mind waiting. Medical appointments are not a drive through Burger experience. If a party comes in with a problem and it takes some time to figure it out, the next appointment will have to wait until the Doctor is done with that patient. I hate it when a Doctor doesn't listen to all the facts and rushes through an appointment with me, so why would I expect he or she to do that with someone else? I would not. I always take something to keep me busy while I wait. A book I am reading, a Word Search Puzzle, these days everyone is looking at their Mobile Phone, Pad or Lap Top. Waiting is part of life, I say, deal with it. My overall office experience with the staff and the Doctor was excellent. No complaints. I did have a minor issue which Doctor Zuckerman treated. For the record, often reviews focus on the office staff service and / or ability to get a quick appointment. Keep in mind these specialists are not just seeing patients in their office, sometimes they perform surgeries which will take them away from the office for half a day or more. Personally, I'd like to see more reviews focusing on the overall experience which should include whether or not a Doctor resolved a medical problem. The office is near a hospital. I tried to make an appointment just now for ear wax removal, and the person who called me back from his practice asked me for my name, date of birth, etc. I told her my name and date of birth, and she acted suspicious and then told me they had a male patient with a different first name but same last name with the exact birthdate as mine. She gave me his first and last name and kept telling me in a strange tone wondering how this could be. I asked if he is using my address, and she said I can't give out that information, but she gave me his first and last name and of course the birthdate matches mine--so ridiculous and unprofessional and probably a HIPAA violation. After this phone call I lost confidence in his front office person, and told her that the appointment date she was suggesting was too far off, but in actuality it was her insinuation. I have had the same health insurance since 2005, and we are 2023, so what was she inferring? read more

When I think of the most desirable attributes that a doctor must possess for me to trust him/her with my health, at the very top of my list is expertise. Mere competence is not enough - they must excel at their craft. After expertise, the doctor I trust must also exhibit a genuine faculty for care and sympathy. Expertise is rendered ineffectual if the patient is not at the fore of why their practice exists. Beyond these first two prerequisites, other desirables are a convenient and safe office location, a doctor within my health insurance network, a pleasant waiting room, a capable and kind staff, clean/modern patient rooms, and a doctor whose active schedule necessitates that I CANNOT make an appointment right away. Though my last point (i.e., an appointment requires a wait), is one where I would prefer that the doctor see me the moment I call (emotionally speaking), in reality, the doctor that is engaged and highly favored is the one who is more likely to best attend to my health needs. That aside, nowhere in my list of most desirables in selecting a superior doctor is a demand that I am seen shortly after entering her/his waiting room. When I ask a fellow golfer who is swearing and pounding his clubs on the ground why he is so enraged, his answer is always about his poor play (i.e. an elevated score...). However, when I ask him why he likes to golf, invariable the reasons he'll cite are exercise, physical challenge, love of being outdoors, and the camaraderie. When I kindly point out that nowhere in his list of reasons for golfing did he name "low score," suddenly the irrationality of his anger is realized. He's fallen into the trap of allowing the single, unexpressed objective of a "low score" ruin his reason for golfing, and thus rob him of a wonderful afternoon with friends. So, when I am sitting in Dr. Zuckerman's office and possibly having to wait longer than anticipated, I remind myself why I have chosen him among many other doctors. Since he meets and exceeds every prerequisite, I'm content to wait and not allow the single drawback of a popular professional ruin my experience and appreciation of being treated by an exceptional doctor. I have a pain behind my eye like a knife stuck in it. . My Doctor got me a referral to see Doctor Zuckerman. I told the receptionist I need to get in ASAP because of the pain where I cant sleep at night. She said he is booking six weeks out and nothing could change that because he is a surgeon. I had an appointment today with Dr. Zuckerman regarding a severe ear infection that started after a hair appointment 6 weeks ago. The salon was having a problem with their plumbing, the shampoo girl got water in my ear and the ear canal closed and was oozing pus by that evening. I saw my primary care doctor the next day and she prescribed ear drops which took care of the infection but left me with a stuffy ear and reduced hearing which didn't subside. I then went to an ENT specialist that the primary care doctor recommended. He not only misdiagnosed the problem but gave me a prescription for another ear drop antibiotic that I was allergic to and had listed on my registration forms. I then got a referral to Dr. Zuckerman. Dr. Zuckerman not only diagnosed the problem immediately (the original ear drops had left a film on the ear canal and ear drum) but also took care of it immediately. I left the office with no stuffy-ness and my hearing was back to normal. Dr. Zuckerman is what everyone hopes for in a doctor: he really listens to your history and complaint; he makes the correct diagnosis; and he carries through and corrects the problem. He is also pleasant, informative and cheerful. I would recommend him to anyone with ear, nose or throat problems without reservation. (His staff is very nice too). read more

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Heather's review and echo her sentiments. This is my first ever Yelp review and I have joined to write this review because of how disappointed I was with my experience as a patient. I was a new patient of Dr. Zuckerman's and came to him fairly certain I had a sinus infection. It was a usual ENT kind of visit where I told him my symptoms, he checked my ears and nose and then he gave me a prescription for antibiotics. Fair enough. I do feel he gave me sound advice and is very knowledgeable. I know he is smart and has a good reputation, as I was recommended to him by one of my doctors. So why am I writing a 1 star review? Like Heather, in addition to the standard $95 office visit that is covered by insurance, his office charged me an additional $222 for my 10 minute visit that is NOT covered by insurance. This is because for 15 seconds, he used a miniature camera to look up my nose and displayed the inside of my nose on a video screen. Fancy technology yes, but it wasn't really necessary. I had no idea this would cost extra, and certainly not in the $222 range. The worst part? I came back 2 weeks later for a follow up appointment and I was charged $222 AGAIN after he performed the same camera nose scope that I never asked for. Of course I didn't realize this nifty little trick was costing me $444, I assumed (in hindsight, rather naively) that it was simply routine and part of the appointment. Instead, on the bill it reads as if he performed some kind of surgery on me, so as a patient I have nothing to dispute. The truth is that there was no surgery performed, and if he was going to be considering the nose in camera routine as such, I would have appreciated a warning, as I would have declined this intrusion both times and gladly saved $444. This charge feels EXTREMELY predatory and is the reason I am writing a review. I didn't realize I was being charged $222 by Dr. Zuckerman's office for looking into my nose for 15 seconds until after my visit when I got the bill. I feel I was taken advantage of as a new patient and though this is a tough lesson to learn, I will not be returning. I hope anyone who sees this review will be better informed than I was in regards to this office's practices. I understand it is my fault for not asking Dr. Zuckerman about potential additional charges during my appointment. I take responsibility for this mistake and feel I have learned a valuable lesson in trust. read more

The rude receptionist told me I could come in for earliest appointment in 1 1/2 months or find someone else. I have to say that the two reviews above giving this doctor a one star is not fair on his behalf. He is a busy doctor and just like any other specialist that is busy expect a wait unless it's an emergency then they will accommodate earlier. In regards to the fee that is charged. $220 fee for a specialist visit and Scopic Diagnostic study is very cheap. Usually, specialist start at $200 without a study. I took my daughter today and yes we had to wait a bit because he was busy but they squeezed us in so we appreciated that and it was worth every minute. He is great! He listens and very well detailed and knowledgable. This was a second opinion so my daughter and I were very worried from our first visit with another doctor and the difference between both was night and Day. Way to go Dr Zuckermann, I will refer you to everyone I know:) read more

I truly feel blessed to have had the chance to see Dr. Zuckerman on several occasions. He is a serious doctor with an open mind and a genuine interest in healing patients. I do not think that my condition is a large revenue generator, but he has always been willing to talk through it with me and spend a good deal of time during office visits to treat it. Mentions of the long wait times are completely true, but the waits are worth it. Sure, I wish that I could have seen him sooner when scheduling my first appointment and that I didn't have to wait as many as 45 minutes past an appointment start time, but I have never walked away unsatisfied. While the wait to have a first appointment is a hurdle to overcome, I have found the scheduling of subsequent appointments much easier. In fact, I have even had success getting in in a matter of days when in need of urgent treatment. Ultimately, what is most clear to me is that Dr. Zuckerman is caring, thoughtful, and thorough. Given the seriousness of ENT conditions, and despite the wait times, I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone. read more

I was referred to Dr. Zuckerman for a hearing evaluation. He was very thorough, explained what was going on, and reviewed the preliminary results, to include those from my family physician (he also had a great sense of humor - said that I might have "wife deafness"). He setup a more thorough hearing test (more thorough than anything I'd had before, including the military) with an excellent audiologist in his office 2 weeks later that was very revealing. What blew me away was that he called me at 7:30 in the evening to review the findings and discuss follow-up! Fortunately there are no significant problems, but he's working with my family physician to make sure that the information will be shared and that future checkups are scheduled. AMAZING! read more

Dr Zuckerman is one of the best ENT in Orange County, and maybe even in entire country. I was very impressed with his friendly and professional attitude as well as with the entire positive attitude of the entire team. I was working with another doctor before him, that didn't even know to smile or say any sentence, was very unprofessional, scared me that I have polyps on both vocal cords, high allergy, I am suspect for cancer but did no other investigation at all in 5 month. He told me to stop singing, and to eat lemons and honey, with hot tee, and made my nose full with blood when tried to use the fiber optic scope, and even then, wanted to put me to sleep to can torture myself without to see what he is doing. All the diagnostics were wrong, further more, the lemons, tee and oranges making my health condition worse, because I have acid from stomach that affect my thought. In just few minutes with dr Zuckerman, all stress of dealing with all wrong diagnostics was GONE, besides the fact that he is so friendly, open and outstanding with his level of professionalism. I can sing and I'm very happy. His assistant was also extremely friendly, kind explaining me how insurance work, including taking the time to talk at my cellular with my health care insurance provider representative. In conclusion I would recommend dr Zuckerman to anyone that needs an ENT doctor, don't go at others that torture and destroy your moral, inventing diagnostics just to scare people, and wasting your precious time and money. I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience here. I don't even know how the doc is because I couldn't make it past the waiting area. The lady at the front desk would not allow me to be seen unless I signed the arbitration agreement ( which has never been manditory at any other doctors office) and because I refused to sign their created document stating that I was responsible for any fees if THEY decided to go above and beyond what HealthNet would approve. They wouldn't even let me sign and make a small note that they could only do what was within HealthNet's guidelines. It was extremely upsetting seeing as I had already had to wait a MONTH to even get in to see Dr. Zuckerman. So, sorry if you're a great Doc, Dr. Zuckerman, but I refuse to be forced to pay for extra unnecessary charges because your office feels the need to make the patients sign some lame agreement so they can charge through the nose and rip people off. It's a shame healthcare is becoming more about the money and less about the people. read more

Not sure why Angel's panties are in a bunch, this is standard medical office practice. There is SOMETIMES a discrepancy between what the patient and doctor agree to regarding care and what the insurance will pay for. It stands to reason that in that case, the patient is responsible for those costs. Insurance isn't a blank check for everything, which I find most people do not understand. Remember, too, that YOU can refuse any treatment that he recommends for whatever reason while understanding he has medical, legal and ethical guidelines he must follow when crafting those recommendations. I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Zuckerman on the phone regarding my daughter's care and found him to be knowledgeable, consise, realistic and helpful. He also called after normal business hours to return a call placed earlier in the day. Not everyone does that anymore. Yeah, I'm a fan. read more

After my surgery I had some excessive bleeding in my nose. Dr Zuchermen took our call to his personal phone at 10pm. Directed me to go to the ER. He directed the ER Doctor on exactly how to handle what was going on. Last communication was around 12:30am, when I was discharged. He called me first thing the next morning to make sure I was ok. Along with meeting me at his office on Saturday, while his office was closed to pull the balloons that were put in my nose the previous night. Really went above and beyond. So disappointed with dr Zuckerman. First I had to wait a moth for an appointment but understandable since he is a specialist. The office staff was friendly and professional. Now to the appointment. Dr Zuclerman spent almost no time with me ten min tops. dismissed all my concerns and acted as if he had somewhere better to be. I felt as if I was interrupting someone on their lunch break. He actually ended the appointment by walking out of the room while I was in mid sentence. Now for the kicker. My bill after my insurance covered part was almost 300 dollars. I called to inquire about the cost and was informed it had to do with a procedure that was preformed on me. Basically the dr used a little scope to look up my nose for all of five seconds and then charged me $461.00. Thank goodness my insurance cover part of that. Saw another specialist a few weeks later and he was able to see in my nose just fine without the use of any scope. I hate it when doctors preform unnecessary procedures just so they can charge you more. My advice for any potential patients is to ask how much everything costs and don't make your appointment around lunch time. read more
