Dr. Yian saved my life. I had complications from a pre auricular sinus surgery from a previous surgeon that had failed. I was abandoned by the original surgeon and had difficulty finding a provider who was willing to do the procedure. I had lost hope and became severely depressed from fear of being sick forever. Fortunately, Dr. Yian took my case and did a phenomenal job. He went above and beyond, because my ear looks aesthetically pleasing too! Recovery was super smooth and the sinus did not reoccur. Aside from the fact that the doctor doesn't see an issue, but I've had 9 sinus infections in less that two year, their front office has terrible follow up. I left a message and no one returned it, I called again 2 weeks later and spoke with someone- she said that the doctor wanted me to have another CT, but I let her know that I had one recently. This review covers the medical group that Dr. Yian is a part of (Orange County Ear, Nose and Throat Associates), but I feel it is appropriate here because my intention was to try and get an appointment to see Dr. Yian. I had found him through my insurance website (Aetna) where he was an in-network doctor. For some reason the insurance website had Dr. Yian with a very high rating, however here on Yelp he seemed to have a much lower one, and reading through some of the negative reviews (including looking at the pages for the other doctors within the medical group) I had really mixed thoughts. However, because finding a good doctor really seems to be finding a needle in a enormous haystack, I thought I'd give Dr. Yian a shot. So, I called the phone number associated with Dr. Yian, and the person I spoke with almost immediately started asking about my insurance and whether I would be covered. Rather than talking about the doctor and appointment options which is what I was hoping for, she went on and on about insurance. I gave her the relevant information, and after waiting on-hold for almost 10 minutes she came back to tell me that she couldn't verify my insurance. So, she told me I needed to email her the front and back of my insurance card, and she would call me back (yes, she even took down my phone number). I emailed the medical group within 10 minutes of getting off the phone, and as you probably can guess from this 1-star Yelp review, I received absolutely NO callback. Not that day. Not the next day. NOTHING. Not even a reply in email at all. How does this medical group function at all??? read more

I went to see Dr. Yian for a consult on my deviated septum and problems breathing through my nose. The visit was quick.. he looked me over, asked some questions, told me the pros and cons of surgery. He asked, are you sure you want to move forward... I said yes. I usually check review before agreeing to surgery. I went back read a few and was kind of concerned by some negative reviews that made Dr. Yian seem uncaring. Insurance had already approved surgery, and I went for it. At the hospital, he came by several times before surgery to check on me, and see if I had any questions. He attention was the first clue that maybe some of these bad reviews were... uhm... I can't say agree. After surgey, later that day I had some concerns about excessive bleeding. I called into the office, expected to be told to wait until Monday (Friday surgery). I immediately received a call back from Dr. Yian, asking me which of his offices I was closest to, to meet me at. He drove in, met me there, and took care of the bleeding problem. I literally met him less than 20 minutes after getting off the phone. Additionally, in subsequent follow up visits, the guy was just simply awesome. I can see how some people could get the initial impression that maybe has prompted some negative reviews. But I saw first-hand when problems arise the level of promptness and care he gave. I am glad I didn't let first impressions and some negative reviews scare me off, as I can now, for the first time I can remember breath easily through my nose. First time seeing Dr. Yian. I was very concerned about my ear, which I damaged surfing a few days earlier. I had zero hearing, it was bleeding for 3 days at that point, and I had loud ringing. He told me it was too difficult to see inside my ear due to the swelling and to come back in a week. All totally understandable. However, he spent a total of 3 minutes in the office with me, and seemed very quick. I had to ask a few questions as he was walking out the door to presumably see the next patient. I was then charged $250 for the visit, and an extra $135 to clean my ears out using a tool slightly more advanced than a Q-Tip. $375 for 3 minutes, slightly cleaner ears, and no answers. Spent the next two visits at Dr. Pettis' office and the difference was night and day. In addition to doing a fantastic job, he answered all my questions and spent plenty of time making sure I felt comfortable before I left the office. Worth every penny. read more

Visited Dr. Yian last week and was happy with my visit. My last visit to an ENT was several years ago and it was rushed and I didn't get any clear answers. Dr. Yian was thorough and patient and listened to all of my concerns. He was able to explain thing thoroughly and I felt like he gave ample time to my appointment. Additionally, the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The office was clean and super quiet (though, I concede it was likely because I had an early appointment). Don't Go! Read the other reviews with 1 or 2 stars. They are right. Christopher Yian is Not a good ENT. He was very fast and completely preoccupied while in the room with me. He hardly listened to what I was telling him, I have frequent Migraine pain and was referred to him from my doctor Dr. Chen (Irvine). I truly believe that this office of ENT's are in it for financial gain and have no interest in the patients that they see. (Dr. Paul Sun, Dr. John Sun & Dr. Christopher Yian). They are a patient mill and have no interest in being involved or helping people with their medical needs. Sad b/c I read their Bio's and seem like very intelligent, skilled doctors. read more

During my first visit to Dr. Yian, he was flippant and had quite a negative bedside manner. He checked on my ear for a few seconds, didn't explain to me what he was going to do but proceeded to spray a substance into my ear (I had to ask what he was doing to me), and then told me I should come in for a follow-up in a couple weeks. I scheduled an appointment at their Irvine office, even though I knew I would be living in LA at that point. I even tried to reschedule in advance when I knew there might be some holiday traffic on my way down on the only day I could really get an appointment. I first notified the office that I would be 20 minutes late due to unexpected traffic about an hour before my scheduled appointment. The staff said it would be fine as long as I got there no more than 30 minutes late, as Dr. Yian had hospital rounds to do at 1pm. Fine. Understandable. Then, after I had already pushed to drive down in time, I get another call saying Dr. Yian would have to go to the hospital if I couldn't be less than 15 minutes late. I'm already in North Orange County at this point, and this would be impossible. They offered to reschedule, but their rescheduling options were very unaccommodating, especially since they knew I lived in LA and would have to commute yet again. There was very little concern for the "care" he was supposed to give me in a short minute appointment. Even if I were to have arrived on time, he wouldn't have given me ample consultation time, as he was clearly expecting to be able to leave when he wanted. Instead, I was punished for being late due to holiday traffic that I warned them about. Even when I tried to call back after I cancelled my follow-up, the staff had already left the office. Dr. Yian does not care about his patients, and I would highly advise anyone to avoid his office at all costs. The negative reviews are there for a very good reason, and their hours posted here are obviously phony. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews of Dr. Yian. I consulted with him recently for an inner ear infection and he was one of the most concerned, considerate, and professional physicians I've had the pleasure of being treated by. I felt that he had genuine empathy for my situation and was sincerely invested in seeing me through this (admittedly tortuous) process. Frankly I try to avoid going to the doctor whenever I can avoid it, but Dr. Yian was great in every respect. Highly recommended. read more

Went to this office once for my wife's sore throat. The doctor, christopher Yian, came and couldn't find out what was causing her pain. Then he used a small tube to look inside my wife's throat and still couldn't figure out the problem. We went home and 1 month later, they billed us $255 for the Nasopharyngoscopy and $250 for office visit. Insurance covers the office visit but won't cover the Nasopharyngoscopy. We called the office and asked them why they performed an diagnosis without our approval, especially when this procedure might not be covered by insurance. The secretary's answer is that is their office policy: Once the patient initialed those paperworks about financial obligations, they can charge you for procedures performed on you without seeking your approval . If insurance won't cover, patient has to pay for the bill. I asked them, if I didn't initialed, then what? The lady said, in that case, we will seek your approval every time we perform such diagnosis on you. So the lesson learned here is: This is a medical practice that cares more about money than patient's feeling and patient's financial situation. Their paperwork is simply a trap so they can charge you for some service you don't want. They know that if they explain to you a 1 minute procedure will cost you $255, you will refuse it. Then they simply buried this under a plural of financial terms. And unfortunately I fell prey to such practices, I just hope by my bad experience, you don't suffer the same as I do. read more

Dr Yian operated on my 92 year old mother who could no longer take solids or liquids. Mom was in poor health, but we had no option. Dr Yian did great surgery on her. She has made a full recovery, and now is eating "real" food, the first time in 2 years. read more

Dr. Yian saved my life. I had gone to an endocrinologist that said I had a cyst(colloidal) and that I should continue seeing her Endocrinologist was Ghasak Mamoud. Not only was I not fine but after seeing endo I ended up in Fountain Valley emergency. Huge toxic goiter, that ended up being thyroid cancer. He was able to remove it and since it was big scar was bigger but he strategically placed it in a wrinkle. He had a great bedside manner and was very sensitive when he had to tell me that their was carcinoma. I am going to see him again as I have another problem with the piriform sinus. He was the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I have had to have other surgeries not related but no other surgeon treated me like Dr. Yen. Love you Doc! See you in the next week or two! read more
