My deathly afraid of dentists daughter just had a root canal here. The made the whole experience as painless as possible. No one enjoys root canals but this place is definitely a good place to go. Receptionist is very friendly, they explained cost and the everything up front before hand and office is clean and comfortable. Parking is only so so but we went a prime time of day. read more

A super endodontist! I had to have a root canal which is no fun but it was rather painless and quick. What I loved the most was that he explained each step in the process. Good bedside manner and his assistant Alex was great too. read more

This is the first time I ever had to get work done in Dental Care that was painless. Not annoying and very good timing there was no wait. Work was done quickly when he numbed my mouth I didn't even feel the needles which is pretty amazing. You have to get a root canal with deep roots he is the guy to go to. And his dental assistant Monique was very nice they kept conversation before I had to put all that stuff in my mouth keeping me distracted. read more

I'm going to say what we are all thinking. We love going to the dentist, especially when it requires getting a root canal. Loads and loads of fun, right? Sarcasm aside, a root canal is what I needed (long story) and my primary dentist referred me across the parking lot to Dr. Carter as he is "the best in the biz." My dentist was not wrong, Dr. Carter made an uncomfortable situation as painless as possible. From the front desk to the dentist chair, this operation is professional and absolutely top-notch. I barely felt anything during the process and Dr. Carter was a constant communicator about what was going on as he applied his handy work to my hopeless tooth. I was in and out in about an hour and fifteen minutes and while I have a few follow up visits with my primary dentist this entire process has been relatively uninvasive to my schedule. To round this up, take my advice and all the other satisfied folks that took the time to review this operation. If you need a root canal, look no further, Dr. Carter is your guy! read more

Thank you to Dr. Carter for rescuing me when I had a dental emergency. He got me in quickly for a last-minute root canal. The office is sparkly clean. The staff is friendly and efficient. He got me in and out within 1.5 hours and on my way. I had been referred to him by another friend who said he was great for her procedure as well. At other offices, I had had difficult experiences, but Dr. Carter calmed me down and made sure I was comfortable during the procedure. If you need a root canal, this is your guy! Especially for scaredy-cats like me. Hopefully I will never need another root canal but if I do, I will return to Dr. Carter's office. Highly recommend. Parking tip: don't park on the lower level you'll have to go take an elevator and walk. Just drive your car up the hill and around to the second floor and you can park right in front of his office. Bring a sweatshirt, it's chilly in there. read more

I had the pleasure of having Dr. Carter perform my very first (and hopefully last) root canal. I was practically falling asleep as I was that comfortable in the chair. Dr. Carter was also wonderful at my initial consultation. He patiently waited for me to ask all of my questions and each question was addressed thoroughly. Never once did I feel brushed off. I highly recommend his office. Finally, I believe her name is Margaret is a wonderful individual who handles the paperwork (and so much more; just keeping it short for the purpose of the review). She greets you with a smile and she is warm and knows her stuff when it comes to insurance. She is a great start and end to an appointment. Thanks to the whole team once again for such a positive, professional, experience. read more

I can't express in words how grateful I am for the care Dr. Carter and his staff provided. Having had multiple root canals with a general dentist and then having a root canal with Dr. Carter was a night and day difference. He took the time to explain what he was doing whenever he was instilling any fluids or when was changing tasks. He was so patient and understanding and his expertise made the whole process so smooth. Dr. Carter even called to follow up on how I was doing the next day. After this wonderful experience with Dr. Carter I wish I had gotten all my root canals with an endodontist. I highly recommend Dr. Carter & his staff! read more

Dr Carter was amazing! His staff was incredible and friendly. The whole process was easy and painless! read more

I have lost teeth, super long roots and I wait till the last minute to get dental work done. That being said. Dr Carter is a the "teeth Whisperer". First I didn't feel a thing! The office cleanliness protocols are stellar and consistent. The staff from the receptionist to the impeccable book keeper are cordial helpful and understanding. Carter's a Master at what he does what a pleasant experience next time I need help I will be on the spot to get my work done! Great team great work! read more

I'd give 5 stars if it wasn't for the lack of professionalism in the front office right now. Maybe it's new staff. I just hope they learn better office and communication skills with a little more cheer in their demeanor. BUT, Dr Carter is the best. I've been to him twice now for root canals. He numbs you up really well, so no pain during the procedure and little soreness and no pain afterwards. He explains his actions along the way too. So you know that it will be over... eventually. A little over an hour in my cases. Also, he uses a dental dam so nothing gross ever enters your mouth and throat! read more

I had a great experience with Dr.Carter- he didn't end up having to operate, but he could have probably lied to me and did so anyway! He and his staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable. They also took Covid protocols seriously and I felt safe there even though I didn't want to be at a dentist/Endodontist during the pandemic. My fears subsided after going in! read more

Dr Carter is amazing. Had 2 root canals done from him. Each one was not a disappointment. My 2nd one was not easy a lot of pain before the root canal but he knew exactly what to do. Also, calls you after the surgery to see how you're feeling. Never had that before and I think that's amazing. I highly recommend him. Great bed side manners. Staff is nice too. read more

Dr Carter is very accommodating and took me in last minute to complete my first RCT after hours and it was as seamless as the first. There was no pain and he talked me through the whole process. He even followed up with me the next day to see how I was healing. I highly recommend his work to anyone who needs a root canal. read more

I'm someone who gets real bad anxiety when it comes to going to the dentist. I was having pain in my tooth so I left work early. I made an emergency appointment to see my dentist the next day. They took X-rays and said it looked like I needed a root canal. Since they don't have in house Endodontist, they referred me to Michael D. Carter, DMD. My usual Endodontist was closed. My dentist offices called Michael D. Carter's office for me to make an emergency appointment. They were able to see me within 3 hours. The front desk employees were very welcoming and had great customer service. I was then called back to the chair. They had me rinse with mouthwash and then wash my hands before sitting in the chair. I love this because that means that this office is really good about hygiene and keeping everything sterile. The dental assistant was also amazing. The doctor came in, explained what he was going to do. He numbed me up the best any dentist has ever done. He talked me through all the work as he was doing it. He was very gentle and had amazing bed side manners. I went in a week later for the second part of the root canal. I was so relaxed in the chair that i dozed off a few times, waking up by me starting to snore lol. I would definitely recommend this office 100%... read more

My dentist was doing a cleaning and noticed I needed a root canal. Called dr Carter's next door and they took me right away. Follow up in a week to finish and done very efficiently. Procedure was long but done very well. Called me next day twice to check oral surgery. Efficient professional and a very good experience. read more

I took my mom in for a root canal during COVID-19. The office enforces social distancing by having clients complete paperwork in their car and asking for patients to sit in the car. Due to the heat and having no one else in the waiting room, we were able to sit in the air conditioned lobby. My mom's a senior and gets anxious about visits to any medical office. She expressed this anxiety to her dental assistant who addressed her warmly and assuaged her fears. Dr. Carter was professional, straightforward, and efficient in getting my mom's root canal taken care of. While I served as my mom's interpreter, he talked to me and her, which I appreciated to help both of us feel included in my mom's care plan. Afterwards my mom had questions about the procedure and the dentist went over an educational pamphlet to provide her answers. The front desk was also accommodating in helping us secure a small discount since my mom is a senior. I would recommend this place for professional work by the frontal office and dental team. If I ever need a root canal, I'll be stopping here. read more

I'm still looking for the button that lets me add the 6th star. In the meantime, I guess I will just write this review. I hate the fact I have had to have two root canals. Couldn't be happier I was refered to Dr. Carter. Here's the scorecard. Bed side manner(so to speak) - Excellent Demeanor - Excellent Communication - Excellent Assortment of magazines - Excellent Doesn't make weird faces at my dumb questions - Excellent Root canal knowledge - Excellent Calls you that evening to make sure you are alright - Excellent Don't believe me? Get a root canal and find out. read more

You know, sometimes 5 stars isn't enough. I was referred to Dr. Carter for a root canal by my regular dentist. As someone who is as scared of the dentist's chair like Ice is afraid of Fire, I wasn't happy. After a mostly painless root canal from Dr. Carter, my dentist-phobia is mostly gone. I had a difficult root canal I was informed, as I required 2x as much Novocaine as normal. Besides the initial novocaine, I barely felt anything. And if I did feel something, Dr. Carter stopped immediately, hit me up with a little more novocaine, and went back to work. They finished the work in one sitting, and I experienced just a little discomfort the next morning, no pain. Took some Advil and that was it. Dr. Carter and his staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and did great work. Dr. Carter even called me at 8:30 that night to check up on me! Who does that?! I hope to never have another root canal, but if I do, I'll be seeing Dr. Carter again. read more

Dr. Carter and his staff are great! I got seen during this whole Covid-19 ordeal. They had me fill out my paperwork in the car. I called when I was finished with it and they came to take my temperature and brought me inside. They took x-rays and yep, I needed a root canal! He got started with that right away. He's a pretty chill doctor. He made me feel very comfortable the whole time. And he's quick! I totally recommend him! read more

I came into this office for a root canal. I will start off with I am a giant anxious mess for dental work. Dr.Carter was beyond patient and talked me through the procedure. I didn't feel any pain at all during the procedure and following their aftercare instructions had me feeling good as new very quickly. I hope to never need another root canal... But I would come back to Dr.Carter if I needed anything done. He even called later that evening to check in which and make sure I was ok which I thought was very kind. The office staff were also all very kind and professional. read more

Went to see Dr. Carter by referral from my regular dentist. I was pleasantly surprised when I visited the office. They are a very clean and modern setup. The staff is very nice. Dr. Carter was very professional and courteous. I was most impressed by the fact that he didn't perform an unnecessary procedure on me. After he performed tests on my tooth, he said that no root canal was necessary and he did not recommend getting one. I was very happy to hear that. Thank you Dr. Carter! read more

I guess getting a root canal isn't so bad if I get one with dr. Carter. I had a sore tooth and it was hurting my whole face. So, I went to my regular dentist. He immediately referred me to dr. Carter & took me to the front office and called dr. Carter right away and scheduled me for later on that week. Dr. Carter's schedule was very flexible, so I came in at 8:30 in the morning. He looked at my tooth and said," I could fix this right now if you have time". I did not have time so we rescheduled for a later time when I could have it done after work. The root canal itself was on a front tooth and it was no problem. I was a little jittery and very scared. I had nothing to fear, the whole process was very smooth and quite painless. Dr. CARTER solved the sore face and tooth problem. Thank you Dr. Carter for a great root canal experience. read more

The entire office staff was lovely, friendly, and professional. Dr. Carter was extremely gentle and kept me well informed during my root canal. They made the process quick and easy. Thanks to you Dr. Carter and your staff! read more

Dr. Carter and his team are very professional and kind. They did a root canal on an already worked on tooth that needed repair (the dude is really good at what he does too). The procedure took a few visits and everytime I went, either someone from the team or Dr Carter personally called me a few days later to check on the healing process, etc. They also contacted me at least 6 months later to let me know they had made some adjustments to their billing and that a refund was to be sent in the mail. I thought this was noble and worthy to mention. Nice work you guys! read more

If you are scared to jump in the dentist chair then you will not have to worry about Dr Carter. I was scared to go because this is my first root canal. Dr Carter was referred to me from a friend and it was all that he said it was. Took X-rays of which you get to see that instance on the screen and he explains everything that is going on and what he's going to do. I can go without him telling but I see where he's coming from, he just wants to make sure you're informed. Numbed me up and did it in a way I didn't feel the needle go in. When he started, he said if I had pain to raise my hand. When he got to the root, I felt it a little and he added some more novocaine. From there, I didn't feel a thing. When he finished, he took another X-ray to show you what was done. Dr Carter makes getting a root canal simple and I left with some ibuprofen. Called me later that night to check up on me and I thought that was cool. I HIGHLY recommend him for anyone that is scared to get a root canal because he made it easy to have done and if I need another one done, I know where I'm going. Here!! read more

Thanks to these great folks I'm feeling like my teeth are my friends again. The care and attention from the staff was amazing and as I always felt welcoming and concerned. Thanks Doctor Carter and staff for taking a good care of my root canal. The doctor and staff are very friendly, nice and professional.

As a person who has a great deal of anxiety, Dr. Carter is simply inept to dealing with patients who have it. His bedside manner was not the greatest-he obviously just wants to get down to business right away & not get to know his patients. Typically, when the first thing to come out of a patients mouth is, "I'm super anxious in the dental chair, etc," it would probably be a good idea to help ease that & talk with your patient for a few minutes to distract them & make them feel comfortable. I had to get a root canal done & i hadn't had one for 10+ years so i didn't remember the process. (Side note: my anxiety has increased dramatically in the last 10 years). He numbed me up in 4 different places and as soon as he put the rubber thing on my mouth, i sort Of freaked out and had a minor panic attack. I said i couldn't do it, as i felt claustrophobic and my heart was racing a million miles a minute. His response was "well if you can't leave your mouth open for the procedure, we can't do it." "The other option to do would be getting anesthesia, and that will cost a lot." He seemed to throw his arms up almost, acting very annoyed I wasted his time. Being very negative & making me feel bad when my physical response is out of my control in this situation. I felt so horrible in that seat and at that moment, i left the office-after getting a full refund- in tears. No patient should ever feel like that under a endodontist's care. I feel like more dentist & endodontist offices should be briefed on how to deal with anxious patients. If a patient is anxious, give them options i .e. They can get anesthesia, laughing gas, etc. Not everyone knows these are options if they haven't had a lot of dental work done before. This was not a good referral from my dentist and I will be letting them know about it. Treat patients with more kindness & empathy. Not just dollar signs. read more

1. It was easy to get an appointment. 2. Staff and office are first rate. 3.This was my second root canal with Doctor Carter both went well. 4.Pain was no issue, just a little Ibuprofen and that was it. 5. Follow up call from Doctor Carter shows he cares. read more

I had a great experience with this dentistry and the service that they provided to me for a root canal.....Michael is very thorough and fast and his staff is very pleasant. I would definitely recommend his services to anyone that I know and he follows up with you by a personal phone call later in the evening to see how you are doing. I think people in general can take notes on this type of service that no one does now a days. read more

Dr. Carter is one of the best endodontist in San Diego. He is very professional and he likes to explain all details about the procedure before you decide. Three years ago, I had really bad pain and infection on my tooth and i went to Dr. Carter. He took my nerve out and put the temporary filling for me, i was planning on finishing the work when i go back to Turkey. But i didn't have any time when i was in Turkey and also tooth was feeling ok, i didn't have any sensitivity or pain anymore. So i didn't get that tooth done till today :) everything was done in 40 min without any pain. If you need a specialist i definitely recommend Dr. Carter to anyone! He is a life saver. read more

Going to any type of dental visit is not easy for me. Dr. Carter added to my list of reasons of why not to go. He certainly knows how to treat a root canal but that's about it from my experience. He was unsympathetic to my fears, is gruff, and is lacking in bed-side manners. It's through my experience with both appointments that I've already called my primary dentist complaining about their referral to him. My husband needs two root canals and I am taking our business elsewhere. read more

I've always had a terrible experience with every dentist I've been to in San Diego since I moved here. That day alone I went to 3 different dentists, he was by far the most pleasant. I got a root canal. It was a lot faster, painless, and inexpensive than I was expecting (based on the previous places I'd gone). Would highly recommend Dr. Carter! read more

Dr Carter did a great job. He went above and beyond for a new patient. He was honest and helpful and did not overcharge!! Unbelievably fair and would use him again.

I am a phobic nut and so for me to need a root canal was not something I thought I could even deal with. Dr. Carter and his staff were great. Very understanding, compassionate and kind. His assistant Brandy was amazing. She held my hand during most of the procedure and tried very hard to make me as comfortable as possible. The office is clean and seems state of the art. The x-rays are high detail and Dr. C explains everything. My tooth stopped hurting immediately after the first treatment. He gives good anesthesia too, I never felt a touch of pain. read more

Dr. Carter is a rock star! I definitely recommend him. He quickly earned my trust. I felt really comfortable with him. He did an excellent job explaining the problem and possible options available to me. I had an infection beneath my gum line at the base of an old root canal. After consulting with multiple doctors, I was told the infection needed to be cut out. My dentist recommended Dr. Carter, and I couldn't be happier. The physical process was completely painless. The anesthesia was perfect: I felt nothing. The best part: I could drive home after the procedure. The procedure occurred on a Friday morning. Dr. Carter followed up directly for the next 4 days. He even called me in an antibiotic on a Sunday. Dr. Carter was accessible. read more
