I've had terrible experiences in the past with root canals gone wrong, so I was extra thankful to have this one done by Dr. Herold who was highly recommended by my dentist. It's very important to have root canals done by Endodontists, but they are not all the same! I can tell that Dr. Herold specializes in Micro Endodontics because he has the precision tools necessary and his technique is very unobtrusive -- making it MUCH less painful for ME and less disruptive to the rest of the tooth with a small entry point so I didn't need to opt for a crown right away. My jaw wasn't even soar from the surgery which was quick and painless. My husband is an oral surgeon and was also very impressed with Dr. Herold's technique, outcomes, and professionalism! I just know that I felt better immediately the next day and was really great experience in his office with all the high tech tools utilized! And the cost was the same as other endodontics, so better to go here and get it done correctly! Highly highly recommend! I had two root canals by Dr Herold I had tooth pain and Tammi got me right in - He was thorough and went over the x-rays with me. Brooke went over the treatment cost and scheduled my visit. I came in for the first root canal- I was very scared, Zaida took me back when I arrived and soon Dr Herold came in. He got me numbed up right away and I was finished before my movie was over. What a relief! I was so nervous before the first root canal but going back for the second root canal was a piece of cake- I knew what to expect. I was treated so kindly by everyone, they were all friendly, knowledgeable, professional and really cared about my comfort. I am forever grateful to them all! When I called the office about my appointment, Joselyne was absolutely wonderful on the phone. I was running late because of the San Diego Fair traffic. She assured me that there was no problem in arriving late. When I arrived, she was very kind and welcoming. I completed all the forms and then was ready for my consultation. My appointment with Dr. Brand went very well. He is a very competent and knowledgeable endodontic with a very warm and caring demeanor. He checked the molar with a previous root canal and acknowledged that the tooth had to be extracted. He recommended that I call my dentist for prompt scheduling since this procedure requires an oral surgeon. I highly recommend this office. Dr. Brand, Joselyn, Eva, and Tami were all so friendly and caring that they made my experience very pleasant. They are "first class" in every way. If i could leave NO STARS I would! A little over a year ago after one botched root canal, my son's DEAD tooth has an infection! I don't dare bring him back to this office since Kevin Stewart (not calling him doctor) screwed up the first time by chipping a good portion of my son's tooth off and acting like he didn't know he did it. He never packed the material all the way to the top of more than one canal, which left a cavitation susceptible to infection! Which is exactly what happened! I paid $1400 for this root canal! And I am furious that it has only been a little over a year! I am taking him to small claims court now! read more

I needed an emergency appointment on a Friday. Terrible timing for what I thought might need a root canal. After a couple of traumatic experiences, I have a lot of anxiety with dentists and was in pain. They squeezed me in and couldn't have been kinder about it. Dr Brand spent lots of time trying to sort out the source of the pain. Very patient and communicated everything he was doing and avoid causing more pain which kept me much calmer. My pain is resolved for now, no root canal, and if I ultimately need additional treatment on the tooth, I won't be nearly as worried because they seem committed to making it a good experience. Finding out you need a root canal is never fun but my dentisit assured me this was the place to go. The office is beautiful snd immaculate! Everyone was very kind from the moment I arrived to having my initial consultation. I did have to wait a good month after that consultation as they are extremely booked up to get treatment. Luckily, I wasn't in any pain and could wait. The day of the assistant helped me back was so kind and accommodating. Honestly, it was almost like a spa like as she really wanted to make sure I was comfortable. I had to remind myself that I was about to get a root canal! The doctor explained everything and was pleasant. I am happy I was referred to this specialist and expertise was important. Overall great experience when you need endo treatment. read more

I had a very good experience here. I needed a root canal, and the procedure required two visits on top of the initial evaluation. It was my first root canal so I was nervous, but it all went smoothly and relatively painlessly. Dr. Brand and his assistant did their best to make me comfortable (which incuded watching The Great British Baking Show with headphones while they worked :-)). They offered a free follow-up evaluation some months later to do a scan of the root canal area, which showed impressive rebuilding of the bone. The tooth that has been wiggly for years is much more stable now. Highly recommended. read more

I really hate dealing with my mouth stuff which is exactly why I ended up being referred to Dr Harold. I knew I had to suck it up and go in and I was really nervous. It's all about the money and lies , there are more than 20 Xrays done for my tooth #19 and none of these so called Doctors can determine whether i need a Surgery or a root canal retreatment. They keep wanting to charge me outrageous fees for everything they think is necessary. It's been a few years since my root canal with Dr. Harold. My coworker had to go in for a root canal & I was unknowningly a jerk & told her it wouldn't hurt...it was 'fine' & 'not a big deal'. Dr. Herold performed a root canal for me years ago and was gentle and kind and very skilled; this is not my first rodeo. They have very advanced imaging equipment to prepare me and them for exactly what was wrong and prevent mistakes. Took me a couple of months to write this review but I thought it was important to share my experience so I'm posting it now. This was a horrible root canal experience for me. I admittedly waited too long to go in for a root canal with a fractured tooth. When I went in finally Dr. Harold did a temporary solution and told me I would need to see the oral surgeon and Likely have the tooth extracted. He told me to call right away for the appointment but that the temporary would last for a little bit. I couldn't get an appointment for a month so I took it. In the interim after two days I started experiencing horrible pain. I called Dr Herald office and they told me it was normal and to rotate Tylenol and Advil for the next day or so. I called back two days later in horrible pain and with difficulty opening my jaw. They called me back and put me on an anabiotic and told me it would feel better in 24 hours. I called back in 24 hours with still more pain and they told me just keep going. I called another 24 hours later and Dr Herald then prescribed a steroid and said that would help within a day. The pain became worse and worse and I had visible swelling the size of an egg. I called back two more times to say I didn't think it was working and I felt I needed to be seen. The doctor was out of office and eventually I insisted that they do something because it was really not right The amount of pain and swelling that I had. Nor could I open my mouth passed a half an inch. Finally at my urging they referred me same day to get an extraction at a different oral surgeon. I went in that same day. The oral surgeon had to give me IV antibiotics and put me under General Anastasia because the infection was so blown up that it was the only way to do the extraction and clean up the infection. The oral surgeon was wonderful. I don't fault Dr Herald for the infection or the regimen that he used, but he absolutely should have seen me in that one week period of time. It was visible the swelling, infection, and pain that I was experiencing. It turned into quite a dangerous situation with the infection spreading. The oral surgeon said it was the worst he had ever seen and I was probably within a day of ending up in the ER. The communication, lack of compassion, and the lack of physically examining me during that Time was unacceptable. I would not recommend going here. I also reported it to my regular dentist who referred me so that he could follow up as well. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this practice. I saw Dr. Herald at his prior location and he was awesome. This time, I saw Dr. Brand and I was so happy with my root canal experience! I felt like I was getting a spa treatment rather than a root canal. They made me so comfortable, and my anxiety disappeared. They made sure I had music and so relaxed. I am happy to say that my root canal was a very enjoyable experience. I had an infection and they got everything out. Not only that, but they were able to get me in same day for the consult and I had the root retreatment the next day. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Brand! The girls in the front heard the urgency in my voice because of the pain I was in and went above and beyond to get me seen as soon as possible. This is an overdue review for a great experience I had with Dr. Stewart. I was having unmanageable pain while on vacation. My dentist told me by phone to see an endodontist (whatever that means). Read the other reviews here and took a flyer. Dr. Stewart was able to get me in that day and have my root canal taken care of in one shot. The crazy part is, no pain. I mean not a thing the whole time. All that stuff you hear about root canals, maybe it's true with other dentists, but not Dr. Stewart. The next day, everything was feeling much better and I was able to finish out my vacation pain free. Also, the office was spectacular. Dr Herold quickly diagnosed an issue that had been a mystery for some time. Prescription was root canals for 2 teeth, which was intimidating to hear. But Dr Herold came in on his day off to do the procedure to accommodate my schedule. It was about a smooth as it gets simultaneous root canals for 7 and 10 in 1.75 hours. I was in the area to see the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines recently. I had been avoiding dealing with a toothache and by the first day of the tournament, a Thursday, the pain had become unbearable. We were in the area until Monday so I called my dentist and described the pain and he said I needed to see an endodontist. I hate doctors and dentists to be honest, so I was dreading the visit, but the pain was so unbearable I felt I had no choice. Thank goodness for Dr. Kevin Stewart. Not only was he able to squeeze me in short notice for an appointment that Friday, but it turned out I needed a root canal. I'd had root canal many years before and remember it being a painful and dreadful experience. I don't know if it's because of improved technology or Dr. Stewart's incredible skill, but it was completely painless. Felt more like getting a filling than a root canal. Highly Recommended. I would be the first and last to say, I love root canals! I had to speak on Dr. Herold and his amazing team. I was referred to Dr. Herold and was reluctant to go because my pain was minimal and at its max only a percentage of time. Like most, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I had already spent money on a tooth I was told could "be saved". It had been fine for years and I originally had a general dentist do the root canal. Fast forward: Walked into Torrey Pines Microendodontics and immediately greeted by a smiling, professional, front office member who got me checked in. The atmosphere was so comforting I felt like I was waiting to being taken back to my spa experience. Seriously, so blown away by the x-ray technology. They took my 3D scan. This tech is amazing. I suddenly realized I was in a dental office. I was seated and began to sweat a little and feel like making a break for the door. Dr. Herold came in and was calming and extremely knowledgeable about what was going on with my tooth. I had never imagined he was looking at all these things to actually factor out reasoning for a root canal instead of pressuring me into one without reason. Unfortunately I needed a re-treatment of my old root canal. When I reluctantly returned, I was seated before I had a chance to even make my self comfortable in the waiting room. Seated and offered a movie which totally zoned me out and I forgot what I was there for. Totally relaxed and comfortable, Dr. Herold and Britany took excellent care of me.
