I hadn't been to a dentist once in my entire life until I was around 19 or 20, and then had had a couple of pretty traumatic experiences with dentists before finally ending up at Grapevine Dental 4 or 5 years ago. Since then, I've had a lot of work done, and through it all, the staff there have been kind, professional, and patient with me even on my most anxious of visits. I feel like we've been through a war zone of dental proportions together ;) Dr. Colangelo and the staff have literally changed my life. That's not hyperbole; it's fact. I can eat anything I want without pain, and for the first time in my life, I'm not embarrassed or ashamed to show my smile. Do not recommend this dentist!! Bad experience! She removed a crown to add filling, then added new crown that fell off less than 6 months and when I returned to get this fixed, stated I now need an implant and this crown I spent several hundreds on can't be put back due to tooth breaking inside it. Dr. C is no longer involved at Grapevine Dental and this place is now a terrible dentist office. I went in for a cleaning in Feb after going there for many years. I have one spot on a tooth that they have been watching for all this time. Now after the new ownership, even though the hygenist told the new Dr. they had been watching this one spot, she wanted to fill two cavities. She was very insistent on it. Now my real problem is without knowing it I had lost my dental insurance coverage so they are charging me the full rate even though they would have only received 40% from the insurance company. I spoke with the office manager and she doesn't understand why I should get the same rate as the insurance company. I had been a customer for about 13 years. That didn't matter to her. read more

WORST place for implants. Nothing but a money factory. 15 k for upper and lower full implants. Bottom broke in six month ( just one tooth in back. They did not offer to fix it and now four years later, the top four teeth just crumbled. The lady dr. in there now, without even looking in my mouth told me it was all my fault and should have been using a night guard. I went to a better dentist and he said my back teeth are not even hitting and no wonder the top broke. We used the same implant base and had new teeth done and wow what a difference. I had been a patient at Grapevine Dental for almost 5 years. My hygienist and the staff was always friendly and did an awesome job. During my course here I had a few filings some in which Dr. Colangelo did not numb me because he said he was not going too deep. I accepted and he ended up hitting something which hurt a lot and later got a migraine from. The next time I got a filing I made sure I was numb. He always seems in a rush and doesn't take full measures to ensure his work is correct. After finishing up all my filings my bite changed and felt off but I didn't think anything of it. Next thing I know is I'm having clenching issues in which I used to never have. He tries to get me to buy a night guard for almost $700 dollars. I never did because it seemed outrageous, I bought one from Walgreens instead. It was hassle to deal with but it was better than nothing. My fillings began to crack from all the clenching. I moved to Florida and got a new dentist. Come to find out I was not getting the best treatment from Dr. Colangelo. I was made aware of some sloppy work done on my filings which caused alot of my issues with the clenching and cracked fillings. I now have to have all 8 filings redone properly. If you go here just make sure he takes his time and that all measures are taken for the best possible work. read more

**Bad attitude & WRONG, NEGLIGENT treatment from Dr. Colangelo** Came in regarding a bite issue and he gave me a really bad mouth guard that's thick and awkward. Asked him could it be ortho issue instead. He said no and insisted on wearing the mouth guard that's badly fitted. I spoke back and questioned the bad fit and he just patronized me like a child. Later went to a different dentist who confirmed it's bite issue that need to be corrected with braces along with a customized thin retainer/mouth guard. Problem solved. (Dr. Colangelo, if you don't know the answer then just say you don't know instead of giving plain wrong professional treatment.) If you want real professional dentistry then STAY AWAY from this Dr. Colangelo and go find a REAL EXPERIENCED dentist. For your own health sake. read more

Excellent care! I initially started going to Grapevine Dental after seeing Dr. Rebecca Coates. Dr. Coates and I had a disconnect -- she was extremely professional but her recommendations for my restoration work was quite expensive -- multiple implants. I opted to try Dr. Coangelo because I was able to get my college age son in fast during a school break. My son liked Dr. Coangelo a lot. I went in and he was very nice, and genuinely wants his patients to have warm, caring experiences. His staff is equally friendly, and professional. He was confident in his recommendations, which were not nearly as radical as Dr. Coates'. We discussed the plan fully and how it would be implemented over time (the transparency mentioned by other reviewers). I appreciated it when he said he had done a similar plan for his own father. That says a lot right there. I went in and had multiple caps and a filling at my next appointment. Everyone was very nice, and when I indicated it was cold in the office, they got me a quilt and provided Bluetooth headphones to use with my own iPhone (or, if you wanted their own device). No TV in the dental bay but I don't think I would have gotten much out of TV being laid back and all. That was the cozyest dental appointment ever. The front desk staff is professional, knowledgeable and provides timely communications. I like the fact that the office is using 21st century technology to complete the multitude of documents that are required of new patients - no printing out. Just complete on-line and hit submit! Reminders come via text or email. Got a call a day after I was in to see how I was doing. Needed a small adjustment on the bite a couple days later and they fit me right in. Not a negative but I am not accustomed to paying in advance so that was the only anomaly - not bad but was atypical in my experience. But, ya gotta pay sometime so in the end it does not really matter. read more

Lost one of two appointments for me and my fiance. We used Zoc Doc. The one appointment that wasn't "lost" was mistakenly listed as a check up and not a cleaning as we stated on Zoc Doc. We confirmed both appointments via Zoc Doc. The office manager stated that she doesn't like Zoc Doc. So it begs the question, why is this doctor using a service that they cannot support? Both of us took off work and have lost wages. So you choose, was it Zoc Doc, the Dentist's administration, Us believing in the Zoc Doc service, or a comedy of errors? I went in for a cleaning a few days ago. The Grapevine dental staff is professional and very friendly. My hygienist was nice and gentle considering I have orthodontic braces. Wait time for Dr. Colangelo was minimal compared to previous dentists I have had in the past. A conservative dentist overall. Dr. Colangelo has always surpassed by expectations as a dentist. I feel like I am going to a friend or family member for my work. He explains my work to me very well and even shows me on my x-rays or in a mirror why I need certain treatment. I never doubt him. He doesn't push unnecessary work, he gives me all my options (saving the tooth, pulling it, etc.). His staff is just as knowledgeable as him, professional, and personable. His assistant Courtney has always worked on me and is always gentle and makes me feel completely comfortable and at ease. The hygienist Debbie is the gentlest hygienist I have ever had! I didn't leave hurting or sore the next day! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE!!!! I would also add that the reviewer that was upset about his experience seems upset more about the program he used to set up the appointment instead of the actual dentist or treatment. Dr Colangelo was my dentist for many years. I loved him & his staff and was always treated well until here recently. Now the Dr seems very rushed and doesn't seem to have the care and concern for patients he once had. I now have a brand new 2 week old crown with a big hole in it because he was in a rush to permanently cement the new crown. I was also sent home with big pieces of cement between my teeth that caused my gums to swell and get infected. I tried to reach the Dr for a week to see if he would replace my new ruined crown but his office refuses. I hate that such a professional & friendly dental office has gone downhill so fast. I guess it's a big business at this point with no care or customer service. I won't be back & have found a new dentist closer to home. read more

Dr. Coangelo and staff are amazing! I've been through a few dentists in my life and it is hard to find one with such an amazing staff. One specific thing that really sold me was the fact they don't over treat. That is one pain point with many dentists is the treatment plans and "add ones" that insurance doesn't cover. They don't push and they are quick to get you in do the work and get you out without compromising quality. I've had a chipped tooth that is tricky to keep filled without getting a vaneer or expensive cap. Every other dentist has managed to fill it and it has come out every time within a couple of months. Dr. Coangelo managed to fill this problem tooth rather quickly to the point I was concerned it would hold. That was 8 months ago! I'm really happy with this place and happy with my choice to stick with them! read more

Dr. Coangelo seems like a nice enough person, and his references were GREAT. Office manager treated me like a homeless person when I questioned paying for my entire 2 crown procedure up front (had already had a cleaning there and my insurance was verified and paid already, and this would be a 2 part procedure - first day, then crown installation in 2 weeks). I explained that my HCRA card could only cover the charge once, so if the amount changed it might be an issue. I offered to write a check for the full amount up front today and then they could charge the card before I left - leaving it with them during my procedure. Guy said, "I would run immediately down to the bank and cash your check before the procedure could begin." Really. I am completely flabbergasted. Have never been treated this way at any Dr's office before. Instead of discussing my concerns about the office manager's rudeness, the Dr. just said "I do not think you are a good fit for this practice. I'm going to refer you to someone else local here." He essentially said they have plenty of patients without me. So, if you are looking for a dentist in Grapevine, I suggest that you consult with Huckabee Dental or The Grapevine Dentist instead - as he suggested to me. I lost an entire day's pay since I took the day off of work. Do not make my mistake. _____ Update: Just left Huckabee Dental. The 2 teeth that were supposed to have cavities in the external exposed surfaces of crowned teeth had NO cavities in them! In fact, they looked exemplary on xray and the photo I was shown in Dr. Coangelo's office was NOT of MY teeth! SO glad I got a second opinion. Dr, today also said that recrowning those 2 teeth for no good reason would have disturbed the root canals on those teeth, and could have resulted in me losing those teeth entirely over time. Insurance says that there was NO pre-estimate asked for or given to Grapevine Dental for anything other than the cleaning and xrays. Xrays were filed under a different last name and teeth were misnumbered too. Good grief. ____ Moral of the story: If you feel uncomfortable in ANY way at a dentist or other Dr's office, get a second opinion. STAT. read more

I recently moved to Dallas and visited several other dentists before finding Grapevine Dental. I was so relieved to finally find a dentist who seems to genuinely care, did not pressure me to have unnecessary procedures done, and gets me in and out quickly! I have been back twice now and have never sat in the waiting room for more than 5 minutes past my appointment time, which is a huge plus for me. The office is clean and recently updated and looks really modern and nice! The front desk staff and hygienists are all really friendly and helpful. Dr. Coangelo is a great dentist. I am able to get in in a short amount of time and the staff is awesome! I am pregnant and worried about what i needed to do to be able to get dental work in my condition but they contacted my ob and was able to be seen that day. The staff is knowledgeable and sweet and always willing to help. Had x rays done before and after to see what was going on. And the best part...Very little pain! He made sure that i felt nothing. ( i needed a crown) only a little pressure from the injection. Had my teeth cleaned by the hygienist and it was so gentle! No bleeding or soreness the next day. I have been going to see Dr. Colangelo for about a year. I am impressed that every time I have called and said that I have an issue and need to come in so he can look at it, they get me right in. I have never had to wait but just a few minutes to get in to see the doctor at my appointment time. Grapevine Dental was a phenomenal dentist experience! Dr. Michael Colangelo is highly professional and a fantastic dentist. I had not been to a dentist in YEARS due to bad experiences in the past. It left me feeling afraid and untrustworthy of going to the dentist. Unfortunately a huge cavity developed causing a root canal and crown plus some fillings. I was nervous and Dr. Michael and his staff were beyond accommodating from providing me with noise-deafening headphones tuned to my favorite Pandora station, to light-blocking glasses to keep me relaxed. They went out of their way for me and it was very appreciated. It feels local and relaxed, and not like a stark cold doctor's office. Dr. Colangelo has eliminated my fear of dentists. His entire staff is full of positive energy and they make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in. They specialize in high anxiety patients, and they do a great job of it. I actually looked forward to my last dental appt with them. I've been going there for routine check ups but now need a crown. His office manager quoted me $1,700 to which I stated was quite expensive. When I called back to speak to them about this, told them who my insurance was and they said they take all insurance. My insurance covers 50% of a crown but they would NOT do what is usual and customary which is to call the insurance company and do a predetermination of cost/coverage. NO they said their policy is, and I quote, "to take your money, then do the procedure and if insurance covers it, we'll give you some back". This is NOT ethical or good practice. I've called several other dentists in Grapevine who've all told me that even if I paid cash with no insurance it would be less than $900. BTW, when I was in there a few days ago, they were all talking about how the doctor took them all on a trip to Seattle. Must be nice to afford those perks for your EEs. Now I understand how. My husband and I recently moved to Grapevine. After reading all the great reviews on Dr. Colangelo, we decided to schedule our appointments. My husband has always had great teeth, no surprises there! I, on the other hand, have always been cavity prone. Even with semi-annual cleaning appointments to a dentist in another city, they were unable to identify why certain teeth were sensitive and told me I needed work on teeth that weren't causing me any issues. I decided to hold off until moving to Grapevine, and I'm glad I did! On the first visit they took a series of 18 x-rays, looked over everything, and made a plan for me to come back a few more times to get all the work done I needed. 1 crown, 4 cavities, and 3 visits later, I can say that I am very pleased with choosing Dr. Colangelo. Him and his staff are always very welcoming and friendly, ensuring that I understand everything and answering any questions that I have. He also seems like a perfectionist when it comes to teeth, making sure everything is just right before he is finished, which is great! My teeth are all fixed up now and are not causing me any more issues. I'm glad he was able to take care of everything and am certain that he will stay on top of anything that comes up at my semi-annual appointments to keep my teeth in great condition! I've been going to Grapevine Dental for several years now and still love going there for my check ups. The staff has always been very friendly and very accommodating. Debbie is a wonderful hygienist and Dr. Colangelo is very nice and cares about your oral health. The office is always clean and comfortable. After your appointment is over (which is never too long unless you haven't brushed your teeth), they set you up for your next one and hand you a reminder with an oral health kit (full size tooth brush, travel size toothpaste and floss, all name brand). I've also had fillings done here without problem and they know how insurance works and willing to explain it all to you.
