My father was the original owner of this optical store. He started the practice after World War II…read more He began as a sole practitioner, and when he sold the business in the late 1970s, he employed three doctors. He continued his practice in his home at 17 Hemlock Terrace Springfield, New Jersey. He also kept long hours as they still do at this facility at 106 Ferry Street. My father would be pleased with the latest technology at 106 Ferry Street. I vividly recall fond memories of working at the laboratory upstairs and grinding the lenses to fit the eyepiece. My father had extensive practice doing strabismus. Strabismus is an eye condition when your eye muscles are not working correctly, and you need glasses that require prisms. He correctly diagnosed, and I was able, with my father, to help cut the lenses accurately. Frame technology has not improved that much, but lenses and the equipment used to cut the large lens to the correct eyepiece have. Years ago, I would use eye blanks and graph papers to correctly insert the lens so the sphere, cylinder, and axis would be aligned correctly. I looked at the eyeglasses price, and it started at around $60 at 106 Ferry Street now. My father charged the same amount in the 1960s. I vividly recall the old American Optical grinder that he had. American Optical no longer manufactured lens grinders. The most recent and latest lens edgers are all automated and computerized. The Santinelli is one of the finest lens edgers produced. This machine includes edging, drilling, grooves, and tracing in a single unit. A new edger is the price of a new car. Ferry Street optical has continued to provide excellent service at a very reasonable price to the Ironbound Community. In conclusion, I am sure my father would be proud of the new optical establishment's accomplishments. To reiterate, 106 Ferry Street Optical has maintained high standards of excellence in the optical profession. Each one of the Doctors has the highest integrity that my father had when he was practicing. I remember he told me that he is not selling a product but a service.

Contacts arrive 3 days after ordering and they notify you via text. They have a very large selection of designer frames and offer any customizations you desire. Wouldn't suggest to go anywhere else.

A complete joke. I went into this store over 2 weeks ago to get an eye exam from these people…read more(which the doctor was great, exam equipment a little dusty and grimy but I could deal with it because it was fast). I told these people I needed glasses because I'm constantly on the computer and they told me oh get transitional lenses. Ok whatever, as far as eyes I am 20/20 so whatever they say because I am ignorant to actual Optical Lenses. So I was looking at some shades and saw they had some Tom Fords (none I liked) so I told the lady (black one who says she "owns" the store- we will find out if she does soon), I had a pair of Tome Ford Penelopes that someone sat on that I bought from a well known store. So she says quick, "I can order them for you hun; whatever you need". So she said they would be 470. They are 385.00 at Nordstrom and Barney's but ok because I see you are money hungry and because I am taking a trip, I need these glasses asap. So here it is, 2 1/2 weeks later and no Penelopes. So I got a call Friday to come pick them up. I picked them up today. THEY ARE IN THE WRONG CASING and the box has no Marcolin sticker and the box had a different cheap sticker on them reading B8 Donna. Marcolin manufactures not just the glasses but boxes as well. So the whole shabang comes together. I have over 25 pairs of these glasses, as well as the same exact receipt from my old pair I bought UPC# 664689602346 is what my receipt has from legit glasses. Last week when I picked up my regular glasses, the lady put a pair of Christan Dior glasses inside of a Prada box and gave me a fake little black lens cloth. Oh my God I am so glad I paid credit and not cash. You know how much my bill came to for 4 pairs of glasses? $1937.00 which are all botched. My Penelopes are so lightweight I am scared to take them to a Nordstrom or Barneys to have them laugh at me!!! o.0 Unreal. I bet you these people won't see the likes of $1937.00. Then she was like today, "Oh do you want a different pair of glasses outside of the 2nd black pair your ordered"? So this means she never ordered the black pair just brown. I am so insulted, it makes no sense. Never buy eyewear from these people. Everything is questionable. I will be taking these to a legitimate Tom Ford re-seller tomorrow for my credit claim to get them evaluated. Listen to the Google reviews and stay far away. They odviously thought I was a fool. The lady had a nerve to say "Oh they came from Italy". 100% GHETTO!

[ ] This has to be one of the most unprofessional locations that you can ever get your eyes…read morechecked out in. For starters, to make an appointment It takes them wanting to take you as a patient. Also, if you are a union member, be very careful with giving them the voucher,As they don't know, the policies of how to Properly enforce them. as a side note, they say they have to have you have a "mandatory"retina scan for an additional $50 that is their upsell says the doctor won't see you without it, which brings me to the next topic. There is no physical doctor in this location. It's all via the comfort of her own home via video. Any questions that you have afterwards? The receptionist has to text a doctor and have to wait for a response. Another note once you are picking out glasses,Although the selection is not new, they do have a lot NONE have prices on it. So if you have a question about 12 classes, she has to send pictures to the doctor and wait to get a response back on the prices. We went on the saturday, which they are supposed to open at ten in the morning and waited for the girl to arrive in front of the location until about ten twenty six when she finally showed up. When these things were brought up to the attention of *EMILY* the office administrator instead of taking a with a grain of salt, she stated that she does not want to deal with us as clients because she did not appreciate the constructive criticism, which in all businesses, is imperative for growth.
