Dr. Crane performed both surgeries and Dr. Choi provided follow-up care. Dr. Crane met with me before surgery and thoroughly explained the procedure and what improvements in my vision I might experience. He patiently answered all my questions and made me feel that I was well informed about the decisions I needed to make regarding cataract surgery. Dr. Crane and Dr. Choi epitomize the ideal physician: highly skilled, a good listener, calm, patient with a genuine interest in answering all questions. It is apparent that the healthcare professionals at Northern New Jersey Eye Institute perform their specific duties with great professionalism, expertise and care. Each member I encountered was knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and genuinely cared that my experience was a positive one. I was treated extremely well before, during and after the surgeries. During every part of the procedures, my comfort was considered and any needs that I had were promptly met. Best of all, are the results of the surgeries. I have worn glasses for decades with my prescriptions getting stronger with each passing year. After the surgeries, I no longer need glasses to drive, for ordinary tasks or to read. I can say without a doubt that I am so glad that Dr. Crane, Dr. Choi and the wonderful staff at the Northern New Jersey Eye Institute took such excellent care of me.

People coming in after me were taken. The staff is not the friendliest. No care in the world. After an hour of sitting there and still no communications whatsoever as to what's going on. I asked for my co-pay to be refunded. They did not care that I sat there for an hour and could have cared less. All they asked was did I want to reschedule. At that point is when they called me, but I was already disgusted with the bad customer service. They never asked what was wrong or anything. I got my co-pay refunded and left. I would never recommend them to anyone I know. I don't care how many articles or plaques on the walls. Customer Service is job number 1 and y'all failed!!!!

It's a strange thing having confidence in the staff's and physicians' abilities at this Omni, in…read morethis my first visit which ended after three hours being referred to a cornea specialist but in Fairfield instead. I'm well aware that if you have "moderate cataracts" or - a new purported finding, Saltzmann's modules, you have options. However I wasn't getting the impression that they had the time or interest to explain those options: there was only option they pushed for: surgery. Felt like a Cataract Factory. Eyes are Money. So is time. Look it'll cost you $2,000 out of pocket and $4,000, I was breezily told with no paperwork and you don't have to do it now but you should schedule it now for sometime because our results are today are only good for six months. Act before midnight! As this fast, hard sell was happening, I politely asked: "what are the risks?" The one doctor who was pushing the consult along (I can't imagine she had 70 or more people to speak to that day ) appeared stunned. Or needlessly distracted by the interruption. "Well floaters, glares and blindness." The world "blindness" hung in the air between us. "But that's only a 1% risk of so." I don't know about you, but blindness isn't a blithe consideration to dismiss. I asked if my current prescription could be improved. They extensively measured my eyes for hours and photographed them and analyzed my glasses' prescription. One hard working assistant told midway through the process that they could give me an idea of whether the prescription could be improved, as one would think, but at end of the rush. rush steamroller evaluation by the primary doctor, she dismissively informed me "we don't sell glasses - we don't give you a prescription." Wouldn't the needs of the patient demand you ensure they have the most up to date prescription? I raised my summer's worst symptom - badly itchy eyes where I'd just about gouge my eyes out rubbing them. Not much interest in addressing that but did say they'd give me a sample of a medication. But as I left, it turned out they just had a coupon for $5. My vision is not that bad - that i'll tell you. When I asked the obviously highly qualified ophthalmologist why she was urging surgery and the optometrist I'd seen months ago said it's likely I have cataracts but no need to undergo surgery just yet. She said all surgery is risky. She c was right. But this physician had little patience entertaining the notion that I don't need cataract surgery now. Got it. Also the procedure is done in the office - takes 10 minutes - costing me $6,000 (while i'm sure my insurance company would pay far more) and what would a get? Well improved vision but i'd still always have to wear glasses. Look. Eye surgery is a big deal. Highly qualified ophthalmologists are a big deal. Absolutely agree. But according to one testing person, she said she processes 80 patients a day. The only way you can do that kind of volume is evaluating each patient fast, tell them they need surgery if you believe so, and skimp discussions that deviate from that vision mission. I really had the sense that their belief was that I came there not to improve my vision but to get surgery if there was enough of a reason to.. And who can afford it? And who can afford to risk blindness?

All they care is the bottom line ($$). Although Medicare fully pays for cataract laser surgery they…read morerefused to submit it and tried to get $4,000 upfront. Will get a second opinion and make sure it's covered by insurance.

They've taken care of me since day one -- always putting my mind at ease and being super professional. I've had to undergo 3+ eye surgeries since I was in 6th grade. From cataracts to retinal tears, I feel like I've experienced almost every eyeball ailment that a 28-year-old can. And I wouldn't trust anyone but Dr. Eichler to take care of me. A lot of the negative reviews below aren't based on the actual practice; instead, the negative ratings are based on petty personal preferences about front desk staff. I've never had an issue with anyone in the office. Tina, Vanessa, Joan, Carmen, and Cindy are INCREDIBLE. They've been around for decades and they are like family to me whenever I visit to check my eyes. Eye doctor appointments are never fun for me because I'm always waiting for the next bit of bad news, but all my worries are put to rest knowing I'm in great hands. As someone who has been with them for 25 years, I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs an incredibly dedicated and skilled ophthalmologist or retina specialist.

I'm not sure to give this a star or not but never go to the optical place inside this business because you get the runaround, like I did as soon as I put my prescription in to the person that does the glasses I wait about a week I went down to the Verona location numerous of times still got the runaround on the website says on Mondays do open it 8 to 7 so I came down there after work. Nobody was in there at the Vernon location. They don't consider that people work and so I asked the lady that does the glasses to bring them down to the Belleville location so she did. I went there about 11 o'clock on September 27. As soon as I walk inside the door, she said she'll be right with me then the nurse came out started modeling stuff about me questioning her the lady that does the glasses about me. When am I therefore the lady does the glasses after talking to one of the people that work there about me? What am I here for? I said I'm here to pick up and I was waiting patiently, so after she was done with the person that was ahead of me that's when she got me she finally took me and I finally got my glasses. I have been going to this eye doctor place for years ever since the founder, of the original founder of Dr. Eichler before he died my grandparents used to go there. I've been going to the eye doctor since before Dr. Eichler Senior died, and I have not ever received this treatment in my life .
