Photo of very sore eye gap after Dr. Byun's surgery.
    Katelyn D.

Review of Michael Byun, MD First of all, don't be taken in by the hype that Dr. Byun is "Chicago's Best Plastic Surgeon". It is Dr. Byun who has attached that moniker to him self and not one that has been bestowed upon him by his peers or anyone else. From the first consult he promotes himself as being in a league unto himself but he is, in reality, a mediocre surgeon at best. I recently had a facelift performed by him at considerable expense, particularly for a working woman, paying completely out of pocket. The recovery was very difficult and I reached out a couple of times for support from Dr. Byun. His responses to me were not only abrupt and uncaring but downright shaming and insensitive. It is as if he were blaming me for the difficult time I was having. My eyes were so sensitive to light I could barely stand it. I sent him a photo I had taken of the gaps in my lower eyelids. He scolded me for "looking downward" in the photo, as if I were ruining his work. Crazy. Here's how the conversation went: Hi Dr. Byun, This is a photo of the way my lower lids are puckering. This causes extreme dryness and irritation. When will it get better and why has it been like this for over 6 weeks now? Thanks, Katelyn From: Michael Byun Sent: Monday, March 03, 2014 3:37 PM To: Consult Subject: Re: Katelyn's lower lids I told you many time; Do not pull lower lids. Do not stare up, Stop posing the lids from pulling down; you are making it worse. Continue with squinting exercise every hour and lift up the lower lids using your finger tips. This is not a suggestion , this is a doctors order Dr Byun Nice, compassionate, huh. After a few months of healing I could see that the results were very disappointing. One eyebrow was higher than the other, my cheekbones were not lifted at all and my nasal labial lines were still there. When I went in to see Dr. Byun he agreed with me but, again, tried to shift the blame onto me. I could see that he wasn't used to being confronted as he babbled on and on trying to somehow rationalize what he had done and seeming perplexed as to how he might fix it. He accused me of being hostile. I told him I was very unsatisfied with the results and that I wanted him to re-do what he hadn't accomplished. I explained that I spent a lot of money and he actually raised his hand to stop me from mentioning money, saying my money was gone and to forget it. Perhaps he can make a small fortune in a few hours of his time but I, in fact, will be working for many months to pay off the loan for his botched surgery. At this point, even if he offered to re-do the facelift for free I am so disgusted with him and his diva-like attitude and surgical ineptitude I wouldn't let him touch me with a 10 foot pole. In summary, Dr. Byun presents himself as a charming, flattering, highly skilled and devoted surgeon but once he has your money the charm quickly fades, What becomes clear is that he is one of the most arrogant, greedy and egotistical human beings I have ever met. He is not some superb artist and stellar surgeon. I would strongly advise anyone seeking plastic surgery to look elsewhere for a more talented, caring, ethical and humble physician.

I have been going to Dr. Byun for years. I credit his artistry to keeping me looking as perky and youthful on the outside as I feel on the inside. Besides botox, my maintenance routine now consists of dermal spin. My platelets are micro needled onto my face which helps reduce wrinkles and plumps up my thin face. I don't think anyone would guess that I'm 65 years old. No one else does the procedure like this. If you are looking for an amazing surgeon and a natural look, look no further. He is absolutely the best! You'll thank me for the recommendation!

After years of wanting to get a lower blepharoplasty due to some very misfortunate genes I inherited, I finally decided it was time since I'm getting married in May. After having a few bad experiences with consultations in the past with other surgeons, I finally met my match. Dr. Byun has an amazing bedside manner and took the time to listen to me, very thoroughly explain my options and procedures, and wasn't at all pushy. These details are all very important to me as I am an operating room nurse and aesthetician. I had 2 options, one was to go inside my lower eyelid and do the lift (less downtime) and the other option was to go from the outside of my lower eyelid (much more downtime and way longer healing process). I chose the second option due to the severity of my under eye bags (as you can see from the pictures). Since I had so much excess skin it needed to be removed. It's the same concept as a tummy tuck, once the skin is so stretched out the only option is to remove it. Anywho, Dr. Byun made the entire process as smooth free as possible especially since I was panicking about my eyes not healing in time for my wedding. I had the surgery done in January and the pictures I'm attaching are from April. There is still a little bit of swelling (especially my left eye) and my scars are still fading but my under eyes look AMAZING compared to how they were before. I've read that the under eyes can take the longest to heal, up to a year before they completely settle. They have already healed a tremendous amount and every day they look better and better. Dr. Byun has gone above and beyond to meet with me several times after the surgery to make sure my healing process is going smoothly. He gives you under eye exercises to do to make sure your eyes settle nicely. Make sure you do them! Trust me, they help! So here are the pros and cons of my journey... Pros: Dr. Byun and his staff are the best! They truly cater to you and make sure the entire process start to finish is exceptional. Cons: The healing process is a little stressful when you choose to do it right before a huge event (this was my fault). But again, Dr. Byun has done a great job at easing my stress. I also recommend taking an entire week off work after the surgery as you will be very swollen with blacks eyes but they go away quickly if you follows the postop instructions. Overall, I'm am 1000% satisfied with my entire experience and Dr. Byun. Highly recommend!!

It was clear she has no understanding of basic professionalism or how to communicate with patients respectfully. What made this even more concerning is that she proceeded to collect an excessive amount of sensitive personal information, including my full name, date of birth, address, phone number, and and detailed insurance information - only to abruptly demand my credit card number at the end, without any proper explanation or transparency. This felt highly inappropriate and raised serious concerns about privacy and security. I was left with multiple unanswered questions, but after being treated this way, I genuinely feel uncomfortable and hesitant to call back. No one should feel intimidated or disrespected simply for trying to get information. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable and reflects very poorly on the entire office. I strongly urge management to address this immediately.

My nose is still crooked, I am still bleeding, and despite all his promises, there has been zero improvement. During the third surgery, he took cartilage from my rib, which resulted in a painful infection under my breast. Each time I saw him, he assured me things would get better, but instead, he kept injecting sterilizing injections into my nose--without any real solution. I finally told him that I would be suing him for his incompetence. Now, just because I spoke the truth, he suddenly refuses to see me. He feels threatened because he knows he has done wrong. That's fine--I'll see him in court. If you look at other reviews, you will see a pattern: botched surgeries, infections, and serious complications. He doesn't even wash his hands properly, which is why so many patients suffer from infections. His entire practice is a fraud, and he should not be allowed to operate on anyone. I strongly urge everyone to research his educational background before trusting him. If anyone wants to see proof of what he has done to my nose, feel free to reach out.
