horrible. poor work. terrible attitudes except fo rthe phone service!

I was looking to renovate my 12 by12 kitchen. Mr. Ali came. He asks me what did I want to be done. I explain I wanted a wall knocked down to open the dining room and kitchen. He told me it couldn't be done because of the support. Why don't you just leave it like it is and update everything he asks? What is your budget and I said I don't have a set budget? It will cost you $30,000, We can finance you. For my little kitchen, I said and he stated kitchens are expensive. Well, not for $30,000. No pictures were taken, no measurement, and no explanation of what was included in the $30,000. No other suggestions or helpful hints of what else could be done. That total seems to have come off the top of his head. I felt Mr. Ali was standoffish and his demeanor was too friendly and appeared to me that he didn't want to be there like his time was being wasted. I didn't know no matter how long you been in the business you can just walk in look and give a price without talking cabinets, countertop floors, etc., and not asking what type or kind. Is this how people do business nowadays? I must really be outdated. read more

Make sure you have a deep pocket if you use the services from this company. I had a M&S tech came to replace a inducer motor and I was charged than $1,200 last Dec. I found out the motor's retail cost only about $230 or less later. The tech kept talking about the furnace unit needs to be replaced and want to have their sales come estimating for a replacement. I will not use their services in the future. read more

We had a gas line emergency in the line leading to our stove; we woke up to an intense smell of gas throughout our entire downstairs. We had just had the gas flex line repaired last week by a family member (HVAC certified), but we stilled smelled gas afterward after a friend moved our stove from the wall to get a stick or something that was wedged under it during the repair. We had our family member re-test the line and found out that the break was in the wall gas line instead of the connection or the flex hose. He turned off the gas to the stove, but we still smelled it afterward. We called Michael and Son's on a Monday before 8:00 in the morning and explained our problem. The customer service rep was professional and thorough answering all of our questions. We were told that it would cost $59 for a tech to come out and test the line to find the gas leak and then that would roll over into the cost of the job. We were scheduled for the tech to arrive between 2-4 p.m., but he called and said he could come earlier. He arrived around 12:15 and was pleasant and friendly. He explained what he was going to do and got to work. He found the source of the leak which was exactly where we suspected and he called my husband to speak with him since he was the point of contact for the technical stuff. He told him the cost of the job and that it would probably take him about an hour to complete the work. Well, he was done in about 20 minutes! He told me to leave the window open to get the gas residue out of the house and he even tested all of the burners and gave me recommendations on getting our center burner unclogged (he didn't do any HVAC work so he couldn't fix that for us). When it came time to pay I couldn't pull up the coupon that I had on my phone and he was cool enough to give me the discount anyway. All in all the experience was professional and pleasant. The only thing I was a little upset about was the $500 cost, but since it was a gas emergency I'm not too upset & I believe that they charge by the job which is a pre-set price. The experience was great enough for us to use them again! read more

I am disgusted by Michael & Son's poor service as well as inattentiveness to resolving our concern. We scheduled an appointment for last Saturday with a morning time window. I was called in the morning stating that they were short-staffed and the plumber may not be out until the early afternoon. We complied and waited inside all day long on a very nice Saturday. Around 4:30pm I received a call stating that no one would be showing up and I could call back on Monday to reschedule if I wanted. No apology, no remorse whatsoever. I then called on Tuesday to see if I could speak with a manager. At this point I did not feel I should have to pay for a simple service (slow kitchen drain) due to them having completely missed an appointment and the inconvenience of waiting for them all day. I was transferred to a manager in their Virginia Beach office that stated he would call the Maryland office and get right back with me later that afternoon. No one ever called me back as promised. I then called again today (Friday) and spoke with Rob who stated he was the manager for the Maryland office. Rob showed no remorse for the situation and even argued with me about my disappointment in their lack of willingness to make it right. I requested them to come out and clear my drain at no cost which after all the failures on their part, does not seem like an unreasonable request. He barked at me stating how they're not in the "business of giving away free services" and also gave me a whole song and dance about how if he didn't like his steak at a restaurant he wouldn't expect it for free. Not sure how any of this is relevant. It's a shame that in this day and age, a supposedly reputable company would be so disrespectful and unwilling to make right several serious errors on their part. Plumbers are a dime a dozen and I'd recommend anyone else you can find over Michael & Son. I am sure Mr. Mansour would be rolling in his grave if he knew how the company he founded is treating customers. read more

Joseph came out to repair a broken drain pipe this afternoon. Can't say enough about how great he was to work with. He was thorough in diagnosing the problem, explained everything to me before doing the work, did all of the repairs necessary and kept the work site clean. All that with a great attitude and friendly manner. Will definitely use Michale and Son and Joseph in the future. read more

Calling for a repair to an HVAC system is stressful. A lot goes through your mind, just what the problem could be. Nyle Miller came out to service my two units and repair one. I could not ask for a nicer gentleman! Nyle was extremely professional, and very thorough. He took the time to explain everything he was doing, and make recommendations that will improve the efficiency of my systems as well as my homes air quality. He taught me a good deal about how my system operates. The customer service was better than I expected. I would highly recommend Nyle and Michael and Sons. Thanks for such a great job! read more

Was surprised with a $70 charge to have a man walk down to my basement and listen for 30 seconds to what I had already told the woman who scheduled him to come out, and then wait 5 minutes for him to ring me up on his iPad after I told him the quote was too high to consider. I suspect they make their money on these "inspection" visits as opposed to any real plumbing since the estimate he gave me was so much higher than the others I was quoted. read more

Very disappointing. I paid $69 for the plumber to give me an unreasonable estimate to replace my Kitchen sink with a new faucet, and new disposal. First, the plumber arrived 2 and 1/2 hour past the scheduled appointment. He spent less than 5 minutes looking at the sink and put the work estimate into Michael and Son's software program to give me a $1331.96 estimate. The estimate was just for labor since I had already purchased a new sink, new faucet, and new disposal. read more

I was told the fee for a technician to come out to my house was $70 and it would be "waived" if I had work done. This was misleading. When the tech showed up, he said the fee to diagnosis (not fix) the problem would be $200 before any work was done. True, I was not charged $70. Rather, I was charged $200 merely for an evaluation of the problem. So the scheduling person's comment about a $70 fee was a bogus lure because the real fee was $200. $70 gets you nothing. read more

Totally dishonest service. Tried to charge us over $600 for a repair that would turn out to be less than $300 from a competitor. AND told us that the repair would take more than 7 days in order to get a part. Competitor came in and had it fixed in less and 2 hours. Then they had the audacity to try and upsell us a $1600 replacement water heater for an appliance less than 7 years old. Finally, had told us we would need to go to some random shop down in Baltimore to pick up the part ourselves. Disgusted. Will never recommend or use again read more

The electrician was on time , professional and answered all of my questions . My husband and I contacted Michael and Sons in the past to work on items in our home. We have not had any issue before, so we contact them to do work on a toilet. We contacted Michael and Sons for a replacement of a toilet in our home. The plumber came out and quoted a price of $560.00 to replace the toilet. This seemed high to us, but the plumber was already there. The plumber told us that he only had one toilet on his truck. (The most expensive toilet Kohler makes.) We had no choice. He then proceeded to install the toilet. After he finished the toilet we asked him to replace some of the items in another toilet. He told us that it would be small fee. When the plumber finished he told us that the bill was $1028.00 and some change. He charged us over $863.00 less 10% for a new toilet. The cost of the toilet is $250.00 at Lowe's. He also told us that he could cut the plastic tubing and that would take care of the situation. He proceeded to replaced the parts of the toilet. We have tried to contact Michael and Son's and they will not try to resolve this issue. My advice to anyone needing plumbing service is to NOT CONTACT MICHAEL AND SON'S They use bait and switch and unscrupulous business practices. Horrible customer service. They are not honest and will not try to resolve the situation. read more

I have to give this company one star out of five. We called the company because our air conditioning system did not start this spring. The technician arrived timely, however upon his initial inspection of the unit, he immediately saw dollar signs and began to comment that the unit is older and that we should not waste money fixing it. After his inspection he stated that the electronic board needed to be replaced and two pounds of expensive Freon. The cost of repairs was provided at over $1,200.00 and possibly higher if that fix did not completely got the unit to work. We were also provided with estimates for new heat pump units that they sell, ranging from around $7,000 to around $15,000 some including almost $1,000 thermostat controls in addition to the cost of the heat pump units. Their warranty also required that customers have the same company return annually for an inspection for a specific price, essentially monopolizing the home service for the life of the unit. We called another company, environmental systems associates. This other company technician quickly reset the electronic board and the unit worked just fine. He said a part may need replacement in the future which is causing the board to trigger but that unless the problem reoccurs during use, for now we do not need to spend the money to replace it. In addition, the technician cleaned the outside of the unit with special chemicals and water pressure, something that Michael and Son did not do. Based on my personal experience, I would never consider Michael and Son again and do not recommend them for servicing your heat pump unit. read more

A few weeks ago my pipes burst. After calling around to a few plumbing companies Michael and Son's was the first to show up. The plumber was very professional and knowledgeable. He told me what the problem was and what I could have the contractor to do to prevent further problems in the future. He also told me he was a veteran so Michael and Son's gets extra stars for hiring veteran Joseph Dukes. Thanks for an awesome experience. read more

My technician was Alex B. He was one of the best contractors i have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He diagnosed the issue with our furnace immediately and finished the repair quickly. He was very professional and personable. If I ever have furnace issues I will definitely request him. read more

But Basim, your customers DO compare your pricing with other plumbers and companies. You would make more money if you had a similar price.

The company over charged my mom a 79 year old elderly woman for some plumbing work. Prices are as follow - Tub faucet install($745.82), install of chrome back plate to cover the holes from a 3 handle faucet to a single faucet because they told her it was better ($127.19), install of the waste and overflo ($690.39), replace laundry tub and faucet ($584.14), install a 3/4" ball and waste valve ($375.02), $100 discount for senior citizen - total+ $2,422.55. After I found out about what my mom did I called to see if they could take another look at the bill since the parts cost under $400. They first offered a refund of the plate cover 127.19....I of course i said no and then they offered the ball valve refund of 375.02 and that was it . We didn't get any further after speaking to 6 customer service reps and 2 days of phone calls she is stuck with this over priced bill. The customer service rep informed me that the prices are that because of their warranty and reputation to back their work. Please. I am just letting everyone aware of the unfair charges Michael and son services did to my mom. I know they wouldn't charge everyone these prices and get away with it. My intention is to make people aware of this company;s unfair practices on the elderly and lack of compassion to rectify the pricing fairly and within reason. So in other words Michael and Son Services are a rip off and I wouldn't use them or refer them. read more

Terrible. Our AC was broken and we called them to come out. After being told the standard $89 diagnostic fee we were then told it needed a new capacitor and a coil cleaning. Fine. That brought our total up to $377. All of this without the guy looking at the interior part of the unit. All that then it still didn't work. Was then told our condenser motor was bad. That would be an additional $595. However the guy stuck a screwdriver in through the holes of the top to jump start the motor. It started and only lasted less than 24 hours. So $377 for a guy to show up to put in a capacitor and hose down the coils. So still with no air conditioning I called a guy I knew who came over and fixed it with a brand new motor and cleaning the inside unit for under $300. Very overpriced and bad service. read more

Although the service man came on time, he overcharged for freon, approximately 3X the going rate. They charged $155 lbs for the first pound and then $140/ lb of freon for 2 more, making the work performed over $400 for just the charge. Then there was the $147 charge for the deicing. I believe that the service was very overpriced and therefore I do not recommend. read more

the "technician" arrived promptly and declared that our furnace had a cracked heat exchanger, requiring that the furnace be replaced. He didn't red tag the furnace, which I'm told a licensed HVAC person should do if it is truly unsafe. He just turned it off at the thermostat. He did clean up the flame detector so that furnace would come on. Wanted to charge $89 for diagnostic work and $69 for "precision cleaning". When the landlord asked for a better breakdown of costs, he balked. I called the home warranty company, they sent another firm out. They flame-tested the heat exchanger and examined the furnace, found NOTHING wrong with it. When I called Michael & Son to complain all I got was lip service with canned responses. read more

Coaxed my mother into a new water heater and sump pump. Shady crew. My water heater was brand new, wonder who they sold it to. This isn't over. Sump pump was fine being it just rained 20 days and I had no floods. What are you trying to do over there? Won't be in business for long with these tactics. We called and had someone come out to repair an upstairs toilet. We should have known there was a problem when he told my spouse he did not have the correct gasket, but he'd see how this one from his truck worked. We went out and came home to a wet floor and water flowing from the ceiling, from you guessed it, the rebuilt toilet. There were a lot of calls that day. First they would have someone out to fix it. Then no one was coming until the next day. We reminded them they had promised to come out that same day and fix what they had done. Someone did come out late that night and made the toilet usable and non-leaking. There were lots of promises - someone would come and repair the damage to the floor/ceiling below the toilet, we would not have to pay for the repair that left things worse, etc. It's been almost four weeks and numerous calls to Jay the plumber manager in the Baltimore office. No one has come. Very concerned that a remediation for mold may be required as well as the repair to the floor/ceiling. And yes, they charged us. read more

The first time we had Michael & Son we were very pleased. We had two drains that ran slow, and they were fixed satisfactorily. The tech even told us about, and gave us, a discount that we were unaware of. When we had two faucets and a shower diverter that leaked we didn't hesitate to call them again. The tech examined the faucets and recommended that the cartridges be replaced rather than just replacing the packing. Since the faucets were over thirty years old it didn't seem unreasonable, but the price he quoted seem very high. Since the parts had to be ordered, it gave us enough time to look up the price of the replacements. After determining the wholesale price we contacted the company, and they agreed to reduce the price somewhat. When the tech came to replace the units, he broke the cover on one, the other continued to leak, and the shower diverter was hard to turn. After the third visit (by a different tech) the faucets now seem to work properly. He also told us that the techs work on commission, so there is a bias toward maximizing the cost of repairs or replacement parts. I have mixed feelings about calling them again. The techs are neat, polite, and some are capable of good work. They do work on three different shifts, so the chances of getting the same one will vary depending on your and their availability. You pays your money, and you takes your chances. read more

I'm upset that I even have to give them one star. IF YOU ARE A WOMAN PLEASE LOOK FOR ANY OTHER COMPANY. THIS ONE IS NOT SAFE FOR YOU. I had two men come in (M&S only have one man recorded coming in) and tell me my hot water heater was 25 years old and needed to be replaced. My little lady brain looked over and saw the hot water heater was actually 10 years old by literally reading the sticker (and confirmed by AJ Michaels who I highly recommend!!!). These men tried to take advantage of me and when I asked them to leave, they were still trying to sell me a new water heater for much more than AJ Michaels. I kept trying to get these criminals out of my house but what is a girl to do when she feels unsafe in her own house? I called to complain and was blown off by every manager and customer service rep I was directed to. I asked them how they can live up to their awful online reviews and just be okay with it? He told me they were mostly fake... if you want the Donald trump of plumbing, look no further. This isn't fake news, Michael and Sons, please take note because the next move might just have to be going to the Maryland Plumbing Board ‍ read more

I lost power to my shed after a heavy rain. After finding no water around the shed or in my basement I thought that the buried electrical conduit from the shed to the house was likely compromised and water was causing the circuit to short. I decided that this was potentially too big a job for me and decided to call Michael and Son. The customer service rep was friendly when I called and the technician arrived on time but those are the only 2 positive things about my experience. When the technician arrived at my house I told him about my problem and what I had already checked. Before setting foot in my house or inspecting anything he told me that I needed a 'Complete Circuit Restoration' and that it was $474. I still haven't figured out how he diagnosed the problem and came up with a price without inspecting anything... Unless of course he scammed me. I went ahead with the price trusting that he knew what he was doing and that it was a larger problem than anticipated. He spent no more than an hour and a half at my house before the problem was "fixed". The problem ended up being the wiring from my doorbell that was on the same circuit. He disconnected the wire to the doorbell and that was it. The price was still $474. My doorbell still doesn't work and I also have an outlet that was on that circuit that now doesn't work. I called back later that afternoon to express my dissatisfaction with both the work that was done and the price. The supervisor tried to explain why the price was so much for the repair by citing that the technician had to go into a "crawl space" (That is part of my basement that is 5 feet in height). I hardly think this is justification for charging almost $500 to disconnect a wire. He was very condescending over the phone and spoke to me as if I was a child and didn't know how electricity worked. I could not get him to budge on the price but he did offer to send the technician back to fix my doorbell. The following day I received a call from the same technician around 4 pm saying that he was at my house to fix the doorbell. I told him that I was at work and unable to let him in. He offered to come back at a different time but immediately decided it was necessary to defend his work again by saying he had to go into a crawl space and walk out to my shed several times which is no more than 20 feet from my house. He also slipped up and said that it's $200 to check 2 boxes and an additional fee for each one after that. I asked him how he knew it would be $474 when the only box he saw was the 1 in the shed and there is only a total of 3 on that circuit. I don't know why the technician felt the need to argue with me over the phone but after 15 minutes on the phone I ended the conversation by saying that "I don't want you or anyone else from your company coming back to my house again" and hung up. Both the supervisor and technician I dealt with were unbelievably disrespectful and the price of my repair was absolutely absurd. Michael and Son charges like professionals but they certainly do not act like professionals. read more

I called for a plumbing problem with my bathroom sink. A plumber came and try to clean it with his electrical snake. He stated he could only go down to 15 feet and it was a blockage. The charge was $685.00. I had tried it before he came and could get down about four feet. He called his supervisor to have a work order for the next day for 2 other plumbers to come and correct the problem. They found the blockage in the wall about four feet away from the sink and replaced it with a new pipe. So I wondering how did the first plumber get down to 15 feet and the blockage was only four feet away. They had to cut out my wall to get to the pipe and they do not replace the sheet rock. I have to get another contractor to replace the sheet rock. The cost another $250.00. Well the total bill from Michael & Son was $2,400.00 put $250.00 from the contractor. Now I have still get it painted. Michael & Son have lost a customer for life. The sad part is I have used them for about 4-5 different cases. read more
