I love this restaurant. The food is good, it's cheap and service is fast. I ordered the $20 combo that comes with a drink, appetizer, and entree. Very good, worth the price.
Great Chinese spot in SCP! They have some reasonable deals and the food tasted great. There have been times when the line was super long but usually it's not too bad to get seated. Overall all the signature items are probably safe to order.
Came here on a whim for lunch! Filling and not too pricy. My mom and I came here on a weekend lunch, small line but went quickly waiter only 10 min. They have table and counter seating, relatively spacious. They specialize in noodle and dumplings, have combo and à la carte option. We share the beef noodle soup combo with spicy dumplings and passion fruit tea, also ordered cucumber in the side. Beef noodle soup (8.5/10)-did less spicy and it was perfect large portion noodles were perfectly cooked beef was tender and chunky Spicy dumplings (8/10)-for the sauce on the side glad we did since it was spicy, but dumplings were plump and large wish skin was thinner Passion fruit tea (9/10)-refreshing and fruity good on summer day Cucumber (6/10)-not very crunchy but portion is large and good deal for $5.00 We spent $35 which is a good deal for the portion. Service is fast and food is delicious! Would love to come back and try the other noodle dishes.
Came here on a Tuesday and were seated immediately. This restaurant chain earned a Michelin star in 2021. It is located downstairs from Din Tai Fung. They offer three levels of spiciness. Mild is already spicy and tongue tingling. If you are looking for spicy this is the place to come.
Mian packs the heat and the flavor! Best appetizer: Chili Oil Chao Shou for its tender dumplings swimming in a tangy, spicy chili oil. For non-spicy starters, Shredded Tofu Skin, Seaweed Salad, and Pickled Cucumbers are nice, light, and refreshing. The Beef Roll Pancake was okay but with so many stronger dishes on the menu, it's probably not one I'd order again. Their noodles are amazing! The Golden Soup Chicken Noodle has the best broth - rich, savory, milky, and deeply comforting. The Spicy Beef Soup Noodles come loaded with tender beef. The Mapo Tofu Noodles carries silky tofu, spicy sauce, and a gentle numbing kick. The lively atmosphere, vibrant decor, and buzzing energy made me feel like I was dining in the middle of a bustling street market. Plenty of seating too - equally great for a solo noodle run or a group feast. Service was fast and efficient, though during busy rushes you may need to wave someone down for a quick reminder. Overall, a fun, flavorful spot that delivers on both atmosphere and Sichuan comfort food.
You know, it really is true when they say, "when one door closes, another opens". Because, as disappointing as it was to have our initial dinner plans foiled by the long line at Din Tai Fung (our fault for not having a reservation, but a two and a half hour wait on a weeknight?!), things didn't turn out all that terribly for us. After all, it's hard to be too upset when it led to us eating at such an awesome spot like Mian! Located on the first floor, directly underneath the perpetually busy Din Tai Fung, what prompted us to come here when we did may have been because it was the nearest alternative we saw, but I imagine we would have ended up here at some point anyways. For one, the decor and the artwork on their walls, in particular, are pretty eye-catching, but mostly, the menu is pretty enticing. Although it may not be super extensive, Mian has a solid selection of dishes to offer, from their Chili Oil Chau Shou, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and Mapo Tofu Noodles to their Thousand Year Egg with Tofu, Fried Pumpkin Pancake, and Spicy Beef Rib Noodle Soup. In short, there's plenty to choose from! -- THOUSAND YEAR EGG WITH TOFU I was super excited to try this, but, sadly, it ended up being more okay than great. The slices of tofu were decent, albeit really thin, and the eggs themselves were awesome, but the preserved vegetables on top were a bit overwhelming. -- CHILI OIL CHAO SHOU To me, the portion felt a bit light, but, to be fair, it's also because I just wanted more of this! The dumpling was perfect - the skins had just the right thickness (had a nice chew) and the filling was so meaty. Plus, the chili oil was terrific and had just a touch of heat! -- SPICY BEEF NOODLE SOUP Ehh...more solid than spectacular. The noodles were tender and the broth was decently flavorful. However, the chunks of beef felt a little inconsistent to me - some pieces were juicy while others were a bit on the chewy/tough side. -- CHENGDU ZA JIANG NOODLES While it wasn't the prettiest dish to look at, this tasted great. There was a good amount of meat and vegetables and I liked the slight kick that the sauce had. I just wish there had been more noodles to balance how much meat/veggies this had. Between how good the food is, the solid service (the workers were friendly and quick), and how convenient of an option they are, Mian is awesome spot, whether you're already going to be at South Coast or not. What's more, the prices here are relatively budget friendly as well, especially when compared to how much you might end up spending at Din Tai Fung (ignoring the fact that they're not exactly alike). Add all of that together and it makes me more than a little excited to come back whether it be here or at their outpost back home in the Bay Area!
pros: friendly service, clean tables cons: n/a we ordered the signature beef noodle level 2 spicy, golden chicken soup, steamed egg, pickled cucumbers, and iced lemon tea the signature beef noodle soup was not spicy at all, i felt like the broth tasted watered down/plain, just wasn't reminiscent of traditional beef noodle soups i had in the past. the golden chicken soup was ok, the pulled chicken was chewy and tough. the steamed egg was also ok, it was soft and silky but the flavor was just ok the lemon tea had a strong fragrance but the flavor was lacking everything was just ok, nothing stood out to me for me to want to return, if i was shopping at the mall and didn't want to wait at marugame i'd pop in here
Mian offers a really enticing combo meal option that is priced between $20-$25. I chose the $25 dollar combo with Chili oil dumplings, spicy beef noodles, and a drink. In today's economy, this is a steal! Portion is really fair and I had leftover. No complaints about the quality of the food. It's authentic and has good flavors.
4.5 stars I first tried Mian when they had their location in Las Vegas (with free mung bean soup!). I finally got a chance to try this location in South Coast Plaza. There was no wait for a party of two to be seated on a Saturday around 1:30PM. The interior is not that large but there are a good number of tables and the decorations are beautiful. Service was fine but minimal due to ordering via QR code. They have combination deals where you choose an appetizer, noodle dish, and beverage for $20-25 + tax, a pretty good deal. We tried two such combos and enjoyed the crispy cucumbers, golden soup wontons, hot and sour noodles, and spicy intestine noodles. We ordered passionfruit green tea and mung bean soup as our drinks. The food came out promptly. All of the food was tasty with generous portions. The golden soup has the tastiest broth in my opinion, and the mung bean soup was super refreshing. You can't go wrong with Mian for an affordable and tasty meal!
such a good combo deal. you get a drink, appetizer, and an entree! i got the boba milk tea, spicy beef noodle soup, and a chicken cutlet. the spicy beef noodle soup was very flavorful and the noodles have a good chewy texture. the noodles are on the thinner side but still good! the chicken cutlet was also really good and crispy! the only thing i would pass on was the boba milk tea. i'd get a different drink next time. you order on your phone and the food comes out pretty fast! will come back again!
I ordered the Combo B which comes with a drink, appetizer and a dish for $25.99. I ordered the passion fruit green tea, chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup. The passion fruit green tea was very refreshing. The chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup were both flavorful and cooked very well, but it was lacking a bit of spice. To order your food, you scan the QR code on your phone but the staff was very friendly and helpful making sure we weren't having any trouble ordering from our phones and helping us navigate the menu and giving recommendations based on our food preferences. They would clear our table of any extra empty dishes to give us more room. The service was very attentive and friendly.
Came for their Combo set deal and it was very filling! The potions are great if you're looking to share between two people and don't want to get exceptionally full. If you order the combo for yourself, you will definitely feel very satisfied. Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10) Not very spicy, great noodle texture, and balanced broth. This is a great beginner beef noodle soup due to the rich flavors, tender beef pieces, and mild spice. Spicy dumping (6.5/10) Love the garlic flavor and chillies that compliment the dumplings well! However the wrapper was a tad too thick and the filling felt like it was missing something. Beef Roll Pancake (7.5/10) Great flakey texture from the pancake and wrapped tightly into a roll. I definitely enjoyed the balance of cucumber and onions. The sauce used was a tad sweet in my opinion. The service was fast and using the table QR code to check out made the experience accurate and efficient. I enjoyed that there were photos on the ordering page so you can see the dishes! I appreciated the servers for coming to check in with us frequently.
We had dinner here the other night. It is located inside South Coast Plaza on the level below Din Tai. So there is ample parking. The restaurant itself is charming and has a fun vibe. We both got the $25.99 Signature Combo. You get your choice of drink, an appetizer and one of the signature bowl of noodles. For an extra $3 you can add a dessert. We got the brown sugar ginger tea and the passionfruit green tea. Both were so refreshing and tasty. For our appetizers we got the chili oil dumplings. We loved the flavor and the heat on the dumplings. The dumplings themselves were soft and filled with pork. We got the spicy sparerib noodles. I loved the bok choy. The noodles were fresh and bouncy. The meat fell off the sparerib bones. The broth was rich, warm and delicious. For dessert we got the brown sugar rice cakes. Soft, sticky mochi texture and the brown sugar was the right amount of sweetness. The pumpkin cakes were soft and delicious. I loved the grated coconut on top. In addition to the signature combo, we added spicy cucumbers. They were crispy and just the right amount of heat. The vegetable fried rice was delicious and so flavorful that we ate all of it. We also got a cold combo with seaweed salad, wooden mushrooms and beef. It was perfect to break up some of heat from the noodles and dumplings. Wonderful service and large portions will make this your new soup noodle spot.

Amazing food. Reminds me of Shangs artisan noodle in vegas. I really enjoyed the chill oil dumpling. If you enjoy spicy and lots of garlic, it is a definitely a must for the flavor and numbness. read more

This place is absolutely amazing meat cooked perfectly, broth is rich and NEVER too salty. It's always consistent and has such a cute space and the kindest workers. Howard is always so kind and smiley. His energy really makes this place warm and inviting. I'll be back always read more
First time here and I'm a fan! Despite being in South Coast Plaza and next to the long lines of Din Tai Fung and Marugame, we were seated immediately. The place was around 80% full on Saturday at lunch, so good odds if you're in the area or shopping and the lines are too long elsewhere. The workers were all very friendly, and moved quickly to respond to anything we needed. We ordered about eight dishes, and all of them were very flavorful and good portions. I know it's sichuan but I didn't feel like the flavors were overwhelming . We were all sharing and the "mild" had good spice, so I'd love to try the actual spicy stuff...next time. Anyway, I think this place is worth a shot. read more

Mian is great for anyone looking for authentic Szechuan cuisine in the heart of Costa Mesa. Obviously, they cater to the large Chinese crowd at South Coast Plaza but their food is excellent. Ordering is done via your phone, as with many Chinese restaurants. I highly recommend their Spicy Beef Rice Noodles, as it has a nice aroma to it and paired with the peppercorns - it makes for an excellent meal. Service is quick and no-nonsense. Great spot for a quick bite in South Coast Plaza! read more

Food here is good! But I think the Shrimp Fried Rice needs more flavor and spice. But thankfully the side chili sauce we asked for was a welcome one and gave the dish the perfect kick! The Chengdu Zadiang Noodles also needed some extra spice and the side chili sauce was helpful! The place is always packed with diners. read more

I usually really enjoy eating here. However this time when I ordered the pork and shrimp pan fried dumplings there were issues. When I got my order of dumplings everything was fine until I found hair embedded into the dumplings. If it was on top then I would've let it slide, but it was literally inside of the dumpling. So I told my waitress and she apologized and gave me a new order of dumplings. I thought everything was resolved until i took a bite out of it and realized that the inside was raw. The shrimp was barely cooked it still looked grey and the pork was still pink and gooey. I told my waitress my new issue and she told me that since they mix tofu into the pork, it tends to be pink and a bit soft. And so I was like, "okay, but what about the shrimp? It's still grey." That's when my waitress apologized and took the plate away. At this point I was pretty annoyed and told her that I didn't need a third plate. Usually, I understand that at restaurants mistakes happen. However I was shocked at the amount of mistakes that happened today when I went. Thankfully, the waitress was kind enough to give me a 10% discount and didn't charge me for the dumplings. As a regular here I expected better care into the preparation as well as the cooking of the food at this restaurant, especially since they are on the Michelin guide. read more
We went for dinner on a Saturday night, it was quite crowded and there was a line, but we got seated quickly, since we didn't mind sitting at the bar. Their entrees with egg noodles could be replaced with rice noodles, which is a huge plus for me since it's one of my favorite types of noodles. I got the Spicy Beef Rice Noodles (mild). We also ordered the cucumber salad, the Chengdu Fries and the Sweet Iced Jelly Dessert. Really glad I got the rice noodles, the noodles were chewy and springy and went really well with the soup. I'm not very good with spice, but I thought the mild was not too bad. The beef was a little tough but very flavorful. My favorite was the cucumber salad, the cucumbers were very refreshing, with just the right amount of vinegar and crunch. I also really liked the fries, it tasted very unique, they were crinkle fries coated with some Chinese seasoning and Szechuan chili. I was not a huge fan of the sweet iced jelly, while I liked the jelly and toppings on it, there was some kind of vinegar sauced used for this dish that I thought didn't suit the other flavors and it didn't really seem like a dessert to me. read more

We came here multiple times and during lunch hours, be ready to wait 15-20 mins. This time, we ordered different noodle dishes to try. I would say sticking to the traditional beef noodle or the minced pork dried noodle ("Za Jiang" meaning a mixture of sauces). They use Sichuan chilly oil, peppercorn and soy sauce to make the soup base, and I feel it is pretty legit. There are several cold dishes like woodear mushroom that is good to try (very garlicky, sour and a bit spicy). For dessert, we ordered Sichuan Ci Ba which is a sticky rice dessert sprinkled with soy bean powder. Recommend! read more

The lines are always long at Marugame Udon, but Mian is where it's at! If you enjoy spicy mouth-numbing peppercorn dishes, come here! I had eaten some very disappointing zajiang noodles at another restaurant so I was eager to restore my love of this dish at Mian. You can choose the level of spiciness - mild, medium or spicy. The dish comes with some greens and a fried egg (though I wish the egg was less well-cooked). We also got mapo tofu noodles (available with or without meat) and some crispy cucumbers (very good) to start. As with so many restaurants, you pull up the menu via QR code and then order on your phone as well. Great place for a quick meal at South Coast Plaza! read more

I had never tried this place so I wanted to try it out. The line appeared long, but luckily the wait was not too long as the employees were quick to manage the tables. To view the menu, you can either scan the QR code at the table or ask for a paper menu. Similarly, to order, you can either directly order on the phone via the QR code that is at the edge of the table or notify a server that you would like to order. Our party ordered the spicy beef rice noodle soup (spicy level can be adjusted) and beef and tomato noodle soup (not spicy). The rice noodle appeared similar to the regular noodle. The difference was in the texture. The regular noodle is a little bit more squiggly. Our party also ordered the Chinese donut (note to those who have not had Chinese donuts: this is savory, not sweet) and pickled cucumber appetizer. The broth was flavorful for both the spicy beef rice noodle soup and the beef and tomato noodle soup. I liked the spicy kick in the spicy beef rice noodle soup. The beef and tomato noodle soup had a nice strong tomato broth flavor. The Chinese donut was flaky and fresh. The pickled cucumbers were okay. They had a bit too much vinegar to my liking. Overall, the broth of the noodle soups were great, but I felt that the portion of noodles and the vegetables was a bit small. I felt that my bowl was mainly filled with broth and a little bit of noodles and vegetables. read more

- service and seating was quick on a thursday night - the interior was beautifully decorated with some vintage touches - i recommend the woodear mushroom (木耳) cold app - it was super vinegary and refreshing - the chengdu spicy dry noodle was also good! - it came with lots of minced meat, veggies, and a fried egg, the noodles were chewy and soaked up the sauce well - the spicy wontons were just ok - a little too peppery for me though the filling texture was good read more

First time trying this kind of spicy Chinese food - what an experience! I got the mapo tofu bowl with ground meat. I liked the flavor and the chew of the noodles, but I wasn't quite ready for the strange numbing feeling of the spice. And I only went for the mild! This is NOT for those that cannot hang with spicy. It's like, my face didn't melt off or anything like that, it's more like a slow rolling burn that spreads slowly over your tongue and then lingers in the belly. Anywhoo, get the beef rolls. The thinly sliced beef wrapped around finely julienned cucumber is quite nice. read more

Pretty good authentic noodle spot. They have a ton of options and you can see the kitchen staff making all your food fresh. They bring everything out as it's made so things come out separately to ensure you get your food as fresh as possible. The food was very good and tasty. We liked all the dishes we ordered. We had a really great server who was very nice and helpful. He was always checking on us and was even kind enough to replace a broth for us when we realized it had pork at no cost. However a female staff that was bringing our food to the table from the cooking area was rude to us a few times. She would say the order but very quietly while wearing a mask so when we would say oh sorry what was that? She would repeat it but would snap it at us in a rude way and would just drop it on our table. It really threw us off how unfriendly she was which really left us a bad impression especially in contrast with our stellar waiter. Overall great place so only deducting 1 star due to the rude lady. The wait was not long at all, we only waited about 5 minutes for a party of 6. Plenty of free parking also available since it's located inside the mall. read more

Stopped by this place on a Saturday night and luckily, we only waited 10 minutes for a table! Between two of us, we shared a few dishes. Chengdu Zajiang Noodles 3.5/5: great texture noodle and sauce flavor, but was not anything unique. Pickled cucumber 4/5: spicy, crunchy, and nicely pickled! Pan fried dumplings 5/5: the star of our meal! It was crunchy and dipping sauce paired well together. Chinese donuts and soy milk 4/5: I've been wanting to try this and it is a fun appetizer. The food came out quickly and service was good. Would definitely come back for the dumplings and cucumber salad! Everything was priced well, not too expensive. read more
I came with high expectations and I'm glad it didn't disappoint. The restaurant itself was decently clean and bright. The servers were extremely kind and helpful as they explained the ordering system online. We saw their new combo and decided to give it a try as it featured some of their house favorites. Their chengdu zajiang noodle was delicious but unfortunately got a bit too oily towards the end. The noodles were perfectly cooked al dente which is a personal preference of mine but may be a bit too hard for some. The lime passion fruit green tea was refreshing but their red bean milk tea was a bland disappointment. The cucumbers and pan fried dumplings were the highlight of our meal! These cucumbers beat the din tai fung ones for us and the pan fried dumplings were extremely crispy and flavorful! Unfortunately this wouldn't be our go to at south coast as there are so many other better options but it's nice for a small cheap meal if you don't want to wait for dim tai fung or marugame. read more
When seated, you can order through the QR menu and that's how your order comes out. Nice idea for a restaurant but poor management brings experience down. You order on your phone and staff bring your food. Items did not come out at the same time with one person being completely done, before the other food arrived. If you like spicy food, then this is the right place for you. Noodles and soup were fine but the beef chunks was as tough as cardboard and had a similar taste. If you're specialty is noodle soup, it should be the best thing on the menu. The dining experience at this store left me a bit conflicted , I may not recommend it for those seeking a standout culinary experience. read more

The holiday reminded me that I'd not been to church in a while- the church of chili, that is. So while everyone else was burning through their wallets at south coast plaza, I felt the need to burn my gi tract. And so I found myself at Mian for a second visit. This is a very causal spot located in the main mall, and you order using the QR code on your table. Service is very efficient. I had the vegan mapo tofu noodles again, but this time I'm afraid my desire to burn was not extinguished. The noodles had good texture, but the tofu was a bit waterlogged. I wish there had been more bok choy. In spite of ordering "very spicy", my lips were pleasantly numb for only a few short minutes. read more
