We are in town for a conference and this is very close to the hotel. We each had a cocktail (. Mine was the mai tai and hubby had the Boulevardier). We decided to split three different tapas that our server recommended. The crabmeat wontons in broth, the lotus fritters, and the pork buns with pork belly. The buns were definitely our favorite. Found appetizers of mussels better than main course of bass, exotic mushroom stir fry was disappointing as the mushrooms were simply portobello and shiitake. Thought there would be more variety. Great spot! We arrived at 6 with no reservation. Promptly and pleasantly seated. We each enjoyed a yummy house cocktail. We had 2 servers who were personable and knew the menu cold. For those of you considering desert, and you haven't yet tried the passion fruit soufflé, I highly recommend it. Like a traditional soufflé, it contains beaten egg whites, but inside of allowing it to rise, it's chilled, giving it a thick creamy texture similar to sorbet. The pork belly was absolutely outstanding--it might just be my last meal request were I ever on death row (is that wrong?!). Portobello satay and tamarind wings were very good. A gem in Ithaca. Good was superb and cocktails divine. I was very happy to find this place when we came up for my tenth college reunion.

Wait may be a little long on weekends but well worth it. Unlike other reviewers, we thought service was top notch. CP was a fantastic server and they frequently came around to clear the dishes as well as fill the water. We ordered off the tapas menu and really enjoyed almost all the dishes. Top notch were the calamari, the asian greens, the pork belly which melted in your mouth, and fiery and tasty tamarind chicken wings. The sauce for the scallops was delicious, but the scallops were slightly overcooked. Skip the nan in my opinion as was nothing special but we wanted something to sop up the scallop sauce! Definitely will come back to sample other dishes in the future. read more

Mia's food is acceptable, but for the price, you are better off going elsewhere. Firstly the menu selection: it looks very appetizing, I was excited by many of the dishes described. However, almost every item I ordered was disappointing. The beef curry way one big piece of brisket in an Asian inspired gravy. Not my preference, but perhaps others will like this unusual presentation. Personally, if I wanted a hunk of beef for dinner I'd go to a steakhouse. Other people's curries at the table were for the most part, not as tasty as the cheaper Thai or Indian places near by. The food just doesn't live up to the exciting menu descriptions. The atmosphere downstairs is modern and classy and the service was also spot on. This is a redeeming feature of the restaurant. read more

I went to Mia with my friend this week and I ordered the Thai Chicken Curry and my friend the Northern Indian Chicken Marsala. There was nothing exciting about my dish. The sauce was not flavorful and there were basically no vegetables, just sauce and chicken. I left most of it and ate when I got home. My friend's dish, the chicken marsala, had essentially the same problems. It was essentially chicken with salsa on top. No spice, no flavor. She said it belonged in a burrito. Another problem...they just keep coming, the place is super cold. There are a bunch of vents on the floor which make the 62 degree temperature feel like 40 with the windchill. Also the waiters there are superficially proper which is rather obnoxious. Altogether, it's bad. Expensive. Bad ambiance. Bad Food. Friendly but fake service. AVOID! Stick to the Ithaca favorites like Just a taste, Mahogany Grill, Ithaca Ale House, Moosewood... to name a few read more

The bottom line is that this restaurant is not serving quality food or authentic recipies. If you want good asian food, go somewhere else. Also, Asain tapas? Really? The prices do not reflect the quality of the food. Our evening began by being profiled based on the fact that we were not dressed to the nines. We were almost told there was no table for us. Very offensive. I ordered the rice noodles, lamb kabob, and the pork bun. The rice noodles were ramen quality. The lamb kabob was supposed to be served with mango chutney and mint cucumber yogurt sauce. It came with some odd mango sauce with chia seeds in it and a sauce that was indistinguishable from tatziki from a cheap greek diner. The kabob was also cold. The "pork bun" was not a pork bun at all. It was a steamed dough bun, in a taco shape, wrapped around pork belly cooked in what appeared to be chef yoshida sauce from Cotsco. Despite the fact it was actually not a pork bun it was pretty good. I got a butter chicken masala as well. It tasted like it was made without ghee and the chicken appeared to be boiled not sauteed. Pretty tasteless and served hot enough to burn satan. There was no warning from the wait staff about the searing temprature of the food. The service was condescending. They belived they needed to explain their menu to us based on how we were dressed. It's a menu. Nobody needs an explanation. The only bright point of our meal was the chocolate marzipan cake. It was rich and tasty. One of the people who ate with me ordered the creme brulle trio. The only edible one was coffee flavored. read more

Just what we were in the mood for! We were in Ithaca for a crew race and went down to the commons intending to go to a different restaurant than Mia Tapas. With too long a wait time there (2 hours) we stumbled upon Mia Tapas. While they also had a wait time, a spot had just opened up at the bar. My wife had a Hendricks and cucumber drink she loved, and our tapas was fresh, quick and excellent. Worth a special mention was a beet salad, beef tenderloin satay and lobster tandoori style. We topped it off with a cute sampler of crime brûlée. For those of us accustomed to Fairfield County prices, the bill was a very nice surprise. The only thing that might have made it better would have have been beer on tap. They had a nice selection of beer in bottles, but nothing on tap. read more

I've tried two dishes: the vegetarian Indian-style "ratatoille" was great, but the pork vindaloo was chewy and not very good. Yay Mia, A+! Hubby and I had a deeeeeelicious meal last night at Mia, our 1st time there so far. Perfect for date night - although I was glad I was at the end of the epic banquette that spans almost the entire length of the dining space (even if that meant that I was had the stairway to bathrooms right next to me). As expected, there's a certain level of class to the atmosphere and it felt both very romantic and comfortable at the same time. I had the most dangerous drink ever to start - a passion fruit caiproska that was way too delicious for a lightweight drinker like myself. Best part of the meal by far were the bbq pork buns - my hubby actually ordered those but I practically ate the whole plate myself. I was there for apps only, so I had a raw fish sampler, the scallop dumplings, and the duck rolls. Both the pork buns and the scallop dumplings were clever - deconstructed in a way that made the protiens shine more and have great texture. A+ for both. The roll part of the duck rolls trumped their actual filling, which was good but not that special. Raw fish is raw fish, though it wasn't served in a way I would have chosen - diced rather finely and a little hard to actually eat (either with the chopsticks, the fork, or even right out of the spoons they are served in). Hubby had a pork entree, which I cannot review as I didn't get to try it, as he practially licked his plate clean! For dessert I had some kind of marscapone and strawberry and puff pastry layered thing. Very rich and total yum - though as for the whole dessert menu, I do have to say that the selections don't seem to fit the rest of the restaurant. Terrible coffee, huge surprise! Slight sticker shock at the end - 4 drinks (that's what did it), 5 apps, 1 entree, 2 desserts, 1 coffee = $127. Worth it though. They had a nice looking bar that stayed empty the whole time we were there - I am definitely looking forward to going there just for drinks and pork buns! There were actually quite a few things on the menu that sounded great, so once my piggy bank is full again, I'm really looking forward to returning here. Oh, and a quick note on service - our server was very nice & professional - kind of a typical scenerio where it's SO proper that you think they're really an actor, playing a great server. Not totally my thing. BUT, it was insaaaanely endearing how well this young man handled an elderly couple sitting adjacent to us - who wanted to totally commandeer all of his time with totally stupid questions and personal conversation. He was so sweet and nice to these people (and patient!) - we gave him a great tip just in case this couple decided to only double the tax. Well played. read more

I am rating this 5 stars based on the fact that this restaurant is in Ithaca, and despite the booming food scene there, you are somewhat limited in terms of what is within driving distance. This is genuinely some of the best, well executed Asian food I've had in a really long time, (even including places outside of Ithaca). I find that asian fusion is often totally butchered, but Mia gets it right on point. I had the beef tenderloin stir fry with baby corn and whatnot and it was absolutely impeccably delicious. It really was. And the price was not bad either, a really high quality meal for 15 dollars is pretty good in my book. We shared a bunch of tapas too and everything was great. We also had a wonderful server that night and they were very accomodating. If you're looking for an upscale, delicious dinner (either to share or get your own dish) this is it. read more

I like this restaurant a lot. The food is really great, and the price is fair. I ordered the half duck last time and really enjoyed it. The environment is pretty nice and chill. It's a nice place to have a fancy dinner as well as a place just enjoy a time with friends. I think it's actually considered as Asian cuisine, but the food doesn't taste very asian... and the style in generally is not much asian at all... Anyway, the food is great even it's not real cuisine =D However, the service was sometimes very slow even there were not many costumers. read more

I cant give enough praises to the bartender at Mia. Kayla is so adept at her job as she makes complicated drinks, serves food, makes sure glasses are washed, attends to clients with a smile and deals w the wait staff. It was a treat to watch her in action. Our food was phenomenal. As vegans there were many choices for us and we settled on samosas, a delish mushroom soup, crispy pappadam, dahl, crispy lotus fritters, basmati rice, mushroom satay w peanut sauce, and ramen noodles. Another place owned by my old professor and her restaurateur husband! Mia is great but it doesn't quite reach the level of ZaZa's in my book. I came here with my boyfriend and his parents in August 2011 and was very impressed overall. The environment and ambiance of the restaurant are perfection. That's the case with all of Lex's restaurants, but this one is even more so. The service is incredibly professional as it is at ZaZa's, and you can tell the waiters are well-trained (to the point where it's almost a little off-putting, but not quite). They brought out little cups of miso-esque soup to us before our appetizers, which tasted lovely. Appetizers were baby back ribs with daikon kimchee (amazing and the meat just fell right off the bone), and crepe with pork, sweet sausage and crab. Both were excellent. We split three entrees for the table: wild mushroom stir fry with baby corn, etc. (this was my favorite), Northern Indian chicken masala, and pan-fried curried red snapper. Huge bowls of white rice were served with the entrees. I thought the meat/fish entrees were both good, but not great. I also don't think I could come here and get one entree all to myself -- the flavors are too intense in every dish and it just works out better to share. It's incredibly expensive, but mostly worth it...but not on my grad student budget. read more

Co-workers had similar feedback about dishes they ordered too. We were so happy that we picked the right restaurant for the dinner. Great atmosphere, quiet location and tasty food. The menu looked impressive but the food was not up to our liking at all. They were kind enough to accommodate our large group on 3 tables but we had 3 servers and 3 checks (we were told about that in advance; I couldn't quite understand the logic behind it). Two of the three servers were good; the third one was really bad. There was a point I had to go in to the restaurant to help myself with silverware cause he just didn't come to check on us. We had ordered the Panang curry, Kerala curry, steak, tofu buns, sweet and sour eggplant. I don't think we will go here again because none of us liked the food. read more

I love the concept of this restaurant: Asian tapas! I wish there was a place like this at home in Buffalo is I would be there a few times a month. Out of the six different dishes my friend and I shared, all of them were quite good. We both agreed however that a full-size entrée of either would be a little too much of the same thing, but I guess that might be the case it any tapas place. The roast duck some Osa was fantastic, and the Thai basil chicken wings were also quite tasty. I really enjoyed the mushroom and rice noodle bun as well. The cocktail list was predictably rather fruity, in the bar was stocked mostly with different liquors and white liquors. I would've liked to of seen more whiskey offerings, but I cannot fault them for that. There was also a fairly substantial wine list. The atmosphere inside is bright and fun. On a busy night I imagine it would be rather loud, so it may not be the place you want to go for an intimate date. I would definitely return next time I'm in the mood to sample a few different things from the Asian continent. read more
